Panasonic VDR-D50P

I have an older panasonic camcorder I can't get my MAC/Imovies 11 to recognize the format.  The movies play fine on the camcorder and I think are recorded in MPEG2 format. Any suggestions on an App or solution to get them on my Mac. Thanks

Hi. Welcome.
Well, that particular camcorder is not on the supported list:

Here is Apple's suggestions:

It would help to know what your Mac system configuration is.
Also by "quicktime update" I presume you are referring to QT Pro? And the other program is MPEG Streamclip? You're aiming to get the MPEG-2 files converted prior to importing into iMovie, correct?

    No.
You will need to transcode to one of the FCE Easy Setups.
Match the converted file to the specs of the chosen Easy Setup, audio & video.

  • Panasonic VDR-D200 Extraction burn DVD etc

Just joined this group today after getting some help from MAC Support. I'm having trouble with importing movies from my Panasonic VDR-D200 mini DVD camera. The software that came with the camera doesn't seem to work well so I contacted Mac. They indicated that since my IMac G5, is recognizing my Panasonic camera, I could use an extraction program and then I would be able to import the movie into iMovie for trhe purpose of editing or burning a DVD (WHICH IS MY PRIMARY OBJECTIVE) I used Mac the Ripper which was able to take all the files off my camera and save them on my hard drive..but what do I do now? How do I take those VTS and Video files and turn into a movie. Pretty uneducated here on the video end of Macs..thanks for your help!

Take the camera back where you bought it and exchange for a model that records to tape. You'll be happier.
DVD format is MPEG-2 which is a playback format not intended for editing.
Converting MPEG-2 is a pain and is time consuming. It also requires additional software and some $$ to to buy it.
If your camera also includes a Firewire cable you'll be able to just plug and play with iMovie.

  • The almost compatible Panasonic VDR-D230 DVD-RAM Camcorder?

Having read other posts about incompatible DV cameras I don't have as big of a problem as others but here goes...
I have a Panasonic VDR-D230 DVD-RAM Camcorder, which is not on the compatibility list. Yet when I connect it to my iMac and fire up iMovie 7 I can see all of the clips, select the clips, create an event and import most of the clips. For some annoying and seemingly random reason it seems to hang on the occasional clip and freezes up (so I have to force quit).
My question is: has anyone else faced this issue, or is this simply an example of the incompatibility that I'll have to work around?
To get those clips that will not import I go the "Streamclip/convert to .dv/import into iMovie" route, which I can live with if need be - although I like the smaller .mov files that iMovie encodes the others in.
    Thanks

Only a guess but file corruption could be your issue here, not quite the same thing I know but my AVCHD camera sometimes does the same thing, when it starts I know it's time to reformat the HDD and it will be good for another few months. Obviously doesn't help with clips that have already been recorded though.
I've found that imovie can be a little touchy about suspect clips and other applications will often but not always convert them if imovie wont. For DVD based clips mpegstreamclip would be an application worth trying.

  • Panasonic VDR-D100... having issues importing home videos!

    Hello,
I am having problems importing home videos from my Panasonic VDR-D100 camcorder onto my computer - any suggestions? Do I need additional software or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?
I am connecting my camera via USB then turning it on, opening up iMovie and nothing comes up! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

This may seen like a stupid question, but is the camera set to "Play"? And does the screen show the words "USB Connected" or something to that effect?
Also, after everything is connected have you tried navigating to the File menu and selecting "Import from Camera..."?

  • Panasonic VDR D-200 problems!!

    Greetings all--
Well, I will try and forgo all my complaints about the customer "service" at Panasonic.
Now for the problem--Only a USB port on the camera(site has a link for a firewire but it does not have port (heh) ), so....ImovieHD won't recognise the beast. Is there anything out there to make HD read the camcorder? Splitter? Adapter? I am really at a loss here since panasonic is no help at all. An icon does appear on the desktop when the thing is attached BUT for some reason and HD won't recognise the files. Can I download an earlier version of imovie?
thank you for any ANY help you can offer

    cellosuite1,
The VDR D-200 is a DVD camcorder and is going to be problematic to use with iMovie.
Karsten's post in this thread offers some workarounds.

  • Panasonic vdr-d250

In the supported list of camcorders this one doesn't come up, that is really strange because it is pretty much the same camera as the d300 or d310, and these are listed.
Can anybody tell me if it is supported? Have you tried it?
    Thank you

Hello, I actually have a vdr-300 so I know what you're going through. Luckily there is an answer. All you have to do is download this file converter and drag the MPEG files to the window

  • Dowloading Panasonic VDR-D100 Camcorder to iMovieHD '06

Does any body know how I can download video recorded material from my D-VDR-D100 Camcorder to iMovie HD '06? No firewire. Has only USB

welcome ben to the  boards ...
your device is a DVDcorder, which isn't supported by iMHD≤6 ... needs to be, as Klaus allready stated, a firewire connected miniDV ..
    two options:
purchase iLife08 .. (be sure, your Mac fullfills hardware req.)
or, finalize disk in camera and search this board for 'DVD Import'.
If your device uses non-standarded sized disk, don't stick into slot-in drives!!!

  • Connecting to a Panasonic VDR-D220 camcorder

I connected this camera to my power PC G5 version 10.5.4 and I select "connect PC Connect (Disc)" - then it waits several minutes - nothing happens and then it says disconnect USB cable. I'm trying to download the video into Imovie. I downloaded the photos just fine in Pictbridge USB function.
Any ideas on how to get it to read the disc?

I believe that camera records to Mini DVD discs, which is a final delivery format not intended for editing. If so, you won't be able to capture from the camera but you can convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format.
Place the finalized DVD disc into a tray loading DVD drive. Use MPEG Streamclip to handle the conversion. You'll also need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component if you don't already have it installed on your system.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what a "Cache-25.mov" is.
If you burned it, and the disc plays where you need it to play, you burned it "correctly."
