Panasonic Viera TH-50PE8U and the Wii

My husband and I recently purchased our first HDTV.  Before now, we relied on a boxy Toshiba from the early '90s!  We ended up with a Panasonic Viera TH-50PE8U.
We were able to get the cable working, but so far have been unsuccessful connecting the Wii.  I can't wait to play Guitar Hero on my new 50" but so far no gaming for us.  What's the trick?

Unlike the Xbox and PS3 the Wii does not have high definition content so it lacks a HDMI connection.
You connect it either with component or composite cables.
Choice 1: Composite may be best described as the old RCA VCR dubbing style cables with red, white and yellow male end cables for three connections (2 audio and one video). Yellow is typically video on each end of the devices. Composite is the most typical Wii hookup and your TV has those inputs and the Wii includes those cables. You will need to press the TV/Video button on the hand control and select Video 1 or Video 2.
Choice 2: Component hookups are superior in quality. I have a Wii hooked up that way to my Panasonic 50 plasma and it looks and sounds noticeably better on component. You will need a special Wii component cable made for the Wii and it is sold at Best Buy. Nintendo makes one and Rocketfish (which I bought). On the end connecting to the TV there will be three cables for video and two for audio connections. If you use this hookup you will see Component 1 and 2 selections using the TV/Video button on the Panasonic hand control.
The first first two choices descibe hooking the Wii up to a standalone Pansonic and without an optional surround sound receiver. If you really want your Wii to sound and look great (as well as everything else on your TV), buy a nice surround sound system and run the Wii to the receiver (along with any other auxiliary devices like cable or satellite DVR, bluray players, DVD players, Xbox, PS3. For optimal results these devices (except for the Wii which is limited to component or composite) all connect using HDMI cables to the input HDMI jacks on the receiver (so you need at least 4 input jacks). Then a single HDMI cable runs out from the receiver to the TV's HDMI input port. That runs everything beautifully and you will control which device is being currently used with the receiver hand control. To recap...it's a very simple setup concept....all devices connect with cables (preferably HDMI cables) into the surround receiver and the TV itself only has its power cord plugged in and one HDMI cable coming into it. Every media display that requires video flows into the TV from the receiver's single out HDMI cable.
Buy a nice receiver and speakers and make sure it has plenty of input HDMI connections and your home theater will be awesome. Expect to spend $500 to $800 for a decent receiver and speakers. Don't waste money on a surround system that doesn't meet the standard of at least 4 HDMI inputs. Buy plenty of HDMI cables and make sure they are long enough...6 foot cables are usually a good bet, 3 footers not so good. Shop around for these as you can way overspend for HD cables. I have the cheapest cables and they work as well as cables that are very expensive. YMMV.
HTH.

  • Air does not display on Panasonic VIera with VGS and mini adaptor

I have the mini vga adaptor and my air works on our Dell monitor, however when plugging it into our TV - Panasonic Viera around 4 years old LCD, nothing happens - ie you select PC and the screen is black. Our old powerbook used to work.
Do I need to hit a button or set something up?

If you mean the mirror icon it is because you need OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion so you will need to purchase it from the app store.  There is also a third party app called airparrot, www.airparrot.com.

  • WRT150 and the Wii Error 51330

I am having trouble getting my Wii on the internet with my new wireless router. It see's my router and a couple neighbors but it will not get pass the connection test I get Error 51330

I was not able to get my Wii to work with the WRT300N router until I changed the security to WEP. The Wii would not connect using WAP (along with 3 computers and my wireless printer).

  • Wrt160n v3 and the wii

ok so i just bought this router and all is well with every other connection in the house.  the wii picks up the network but thinks my password is incorrect upon login.  so far ive tried setting the channels to 1 and 11 on 20mhz settings only. also i have added the wii's MAC address to the list of exceptions.  still refuses to accept the password. even changed the password once just to check if another would work. any advice from anyone who has managed to get their wii connected to the WRT160N V3.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

it came down to manually setting up he wii instead of auto setup then manually entering Key1 into the wii's setting rather than trying to use the network password.  plus running through the wiiconnect24 settings and allowing downloads and uploads.  it is now up and running.  thank you.

  • Configuring an IP address for Panasonic Viera TX-L...

    Hi,
Hi I can't get my panasonic viera to connect to the internet.  It says it connects to the hub but that the hub isn't connected to the internet, which it is.  I've been advised by BT to configure the IP address manually but don't know how to do this.  Is it something I do on the television or on my PC through Home Hub settings?  BT gave me the IP address but don't know where to enter it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Also is configuring the IP address the same as port forwarding?  It's only I tried that a while back (can't remember what I did now) for something else only to find that port forwarding won't work for 3.0.
    Solved!

Its nothing to do with port forwarding.
You need to change the settings on the TV to use a static IP address, not DHCP.

I only have some info for the Samsung TV, but I may be able to find the settings page on the Panasonic, if they have an online manual.

  • Skype on 2013 Panasonic Viera E6 - Skype while wat...

    Hello.
I see "Skype while watching TV" on the Panasonic website for this series TV, but I can't find an option to login to Skype automatically when turning on the TV, on the TV itself. I have the Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype camera - which works nicely.
Skype is working for me, however, I did have to google for a solution as it wouldn't initially login. It turns out that my existing profile needed to be completed before it would log me in on the TV app. It would be nice if the error message reflected this requirement rather than the misleading:  "Sorry we can't sign you into Skype at the moment due to a temporary problem".
Anyways, the Panasonic website says "Skype while watching TV". Does anyone know how to do this please?

I don't know why this is listed as having an "accepted solution", the "solution" did not work at all for me! I have a new Panasonic Viera ZT65 with with the TY-CC20 camera. i was able to log on to Skype ONE time. Every time thereafter, I get that "Sorry, There's a temporary problem try again later" message
Every time i try to log on, i get the same message. that thing about complting your Skype profile is useless and didn't help at all! The TV is hardwired to the ethernet and has no network problems. When I disconnect the camera, it tells me that I can only use Skype in demo mode as there's no camera. When i p,ug the camera back in, same old Sorry temporary problem message. logging in and out does nothing. i can log into Skype fine with my Ipad or iMac, but not with the Viera and the "Skype certified" camera for this TV!
why is there no fix for this? Why does nobody care about this? There are no more firmware upgrades that I can find and apparantly this is a well known problem, and this seems to be a problem that's been around for well over a year at this time (11/2013)
Is Skype deliberatly ignoring this? Is Panasonic totally ignoring this issue? Somebody could fix this if thet cared.
This issue IS NOT FIXED! The "fix" does NOTHING! Re-open this topic, it is not solved, it is NOT fixed! Whoever posted an "accepted fix" never tried this in the real world. they just posted something without checking it for facts.
Cannot answer or make calls as I can't log on at all. Even with "Remember password
" on, it never remembers the password.
If I use a USB keyboard to log on or use the screen alphabet to log on, i get the same problems.
Is there a "real" fix for this??

  • New 13" Macbook Pro trying to connect to a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 as second monitor. I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. The Macbook does not sense the second monitor (TV). Help?!

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
    Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
    Thanks!

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Bad Picture Quality On SD Channels With HDMI And Panasonic VIERA 720p LCD HDTV

I just bought a new Panasonic VIERA 32" 16:9 8ms 720p LCD HDTV TC-L32X1 for my in-laws when they finally had Verizon FIOS brought into their neighborhood last month.
Install was by the Verizon tech using the HDMI cable I also had shipped to them.
The HD channels quality is excellent, but the SD quality is smeared -- almost looks like an impressionist painting.
It is not the TV -- the TV menus are crystal clear, as are the HD channels.
And, it is not just the broadcast HD -- the DVR box menus are also smeared when viewing as SD channel, as is the guide and the pop up channel info.
We've tried all the settings on the TV -- Zoom, 4:3, etc.
The other TV (an older CRT) actually has better SD quality than the Panasonic.
My research indicates we're not the only ones on FIOS with this problem. Someone suggested using the component hookup rather than HDMI?
Other say that IMG 1.7 is supposed to solve the problem, that the SD quality was fine before IMG 1.6.
    Any suggestions, solutions, or updates?
    The picture is virtually unwatchable.
    Thank you!

Joe01880 - Being a new customer as of last October, I have never seen anything other than IMG 1.6.  My understanding from other posts is that before IMG 1.6, the SD PQ on an HD box was just fine.  I'm not sure what the complaints/gripes/begs were for IMG 1.6 but it seems to me that, if Verizon knows what changes were made, it should be straightforward to determine which changes caused a deterioration of the PQ.  I think it's been at least 6 months since the first complaints of poor PQ, so I don't really see how anyone can claim that Verizon is in danger of "rushing" an update to address this problem.  I also don't think that a forum topic, no matter how much it complains or gripes, will cause Verizon to rush.  I am much more worried that during a large portion of my 2 year contract that the issue won't be addressed at all, so I'm happy to add my voice to those complaining."

  • My mac mini is connected to my panasonic LCD and the screen has gone blank

    So here's what I did.
I plugged my old mac mini (10.4.11) to my Panasonic Viera LCD flat screen with a VGA cable. When it loaded up and i logged in i noticed the screen sizing looked odd - as in looked stetched. I then jumped into the display settings and must have clicked on of the options which for some unknown (to me anyay) reason the screen just went blank. I then cannot do anything as I cant see anything. If I turn it off and turn it back on again then its all good as before untill I have logged in and it loads the desktop - then it goes blank again.
    Any ideas?

You cannot install the apps on the car.
The cars head unit is merely acting as an interface to the apps on the device.
If you want to use those apps in the car, plug the device in and leave it plugged in.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

  • I have a Canon 6D and the new Panasonic GH4 both are not in the list of supported cameras! What can I do?

I have a Canon 6D and the new Panasonic GH4 both are not in the supported list of cameras in Finalcut Pro 10 ! What can I do???

Plenty of cameras don't make the list for various reasons but work fine,
If you have the cameras but not the application, downliad the trial version and see how it goes.
If you have both the cameras and the app already, do some test projects to see.

    Hi glhiker,
Your video clips will import directly into iMovie.  It's a great video editing program.  I'll include some quick video tutorials to get you started below:
    Apple - Support - Videos
When you open the iMovie application, click HELP > iMOVIE HELP on the menu bar to access the manual for the program.  One of the first topics is Importing Video.
Down the road, you may be interested in our professional video editing application, called Final Cut Pro X.
