Pandora battery drain after ios 8.1

I've been using Pandora for quite a long time. I usually leave 1 earbud in and stream music all during my work day.
This has historically used 30-50% of my battery during a 9.5 hour shift.
Since IOS 8.1, Pandora has gotten insanely battery hungry.  Since 8.1, my battery generally dies around 4p.
After 4.5 hours of streaming today, my battery is at 48%. Typically, it would still be in the 60s-70s at this time.
Usage shows Pandora taking 69% of the battery power, so it's definitely something between IOS 8.1 and the Pandora App.
Note: I did not have this problem on *any* previous version of IOS. 8.0.2 worked just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?  The sole change was IOS 8.1, although I do not know if it's the culprit or Pandora.
Thanks for any insight..

Same here.  Listened to Pandora on iPhone 6 on vacation while driving (up to 8 hours per day) no problem.  Battery drain about same as with previous iPhone 5 (can actually listen for 7-8 hours without going below 30%).
Updated to 8.1 on Sunday, phone went from 100% at 7 a.m. to 50% 40 minutes later during my morning commute and when I picked up phone it was extremely hot to the touch.
I guess I don't get the "fix" that Pandora is working on (daddydev).  shouldn't Apple be the ones working on the fix to their 8.1 update, not the app developer?
When I contacted Apple support, they seemed unaware of the problem.  Maybe we are the only 4 iPhone owners who use Pandora?  I don't think so.....

  • IPad 2 battery drain after iOS 5.0.1 update!!!

iPad 2 battery is draining way too fast after the 5.0.1 update - I've lost over 10% just browsing the apple site over wifi for about 10 minutes - with no other apps running. NOT ACCEPTABLE APPLE!!!
Same issue with my iPhone 4 that went from 62% when I went to bed last night to completely dead this morning - unused!!
Apple - roll 5.0 back out to replace this battery leech. I need to be able to actually USE my products.

Same issue here! I've been reading on my fully-charged iPad and the battery is down to 78%. Never did this before the latest update. Yesterday, iPad quit before my usual evening reading!  Any solutions!
I have personally seen the problem and corrected it on numerous models now including the 4S, 4, 3GS and iPad 2s.  Corrupt system level settings created by an iOS 5 bug in the original release that caused battery recalibration issues, etc.  Just installing the update does not fix the issue in most cases (sometime it initially can be worse).  You need to clear out those settings and recalibate the battery.  For those still having the "standby battery drain" issue follow the procedure below in order.  It does fix the problem in most cases.
Go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
    2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). At this point, Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
    4. Fully discharge battery  (tilll it shuts off with the spinning wheel)
    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

  • Battery drain after IOS 6 update

    I and my 3 family members and two fellow employees have all noticed that since upgrading to IOS 6 on our cellphones we have had the following issues;
    1. Massive battery drain
    2. Battery heat-up during recharge with the phone on but not being used.
    3. Lost data
With the phone on and not being used - the charge level drops much faster.  I used to go the whole day on one charge and recharge at 10 pm with 30 - 40% of the charge left.  Since the IOS 6 upgrade I'm recharging at 4pm with a 10% charge remaining on the phone .
Also -  recharging the phone while it is on (but not in use) causes  noticible battery heat-up.
Again - this was not the case for any of the 6 of us prior to downloading IOS 6
My conclusion is that there are aspects of this new operating system that use a lot more battery juice than the previous IOS 5.1.1
This significantly increased demand on the battery is showing up as much less operating time and battery heat-up during recharging.
Anybody else experiencing these issues ?

Got onto Apple Teckies yesterday & spent about 1.5 hours on the phone with a very helpfull bloke
    that went through everything.
At this stage my phone has been reinstalled with iOS 6 as a New Phone (Like a test mode) so NONE
of my APP's or Settings only my Contacts from iCloud (As a New phone would come out of the box).
... From the time we finished uploading the iOS 6 softwear untill now my phone has only used 40%
    battery so it's looking good.
If this works I then have to conect my phone with my iTunes & Reinstall from my Back Up to get all
    My App's & Settings back.
... Then we will see if it has worked.
... Will let you all know what happens in the next 48 Hours.

  • IPhone 5 battery draining after iOS 6.0.2 update even on standby mode without wifi/ 3G at all.

My newly bought iPhone 5 was on iOS 6.0.1
everything worked fine and i had no wifi nor battery issues at all until I upgraded it to iOS 6.0.
i noticed some battery drainage even when i'm not using my phone at all it still drains 1-2% on standby mode with no wifi nor 3G at all in an hour,
If i use wifi it'll drain 4-5% in a few minutes time, more serious case when i use 3G, it's literally draining in EVERY SINGLE MINUTE.

Per designed, Wi-Fi will disconnect in sleep mode to save battery.
If you want Wi-Fi to stay connected even in sleep mode, plugin to a wall power socket.
No it's not "per design". It's not supposed to disconnect when locked/in sleep mode. The whole concept of having live notifications to work when your phone is locked is the standard for smartphones. Having this feature only accessable when pluging/charging the phone is rediculous and counter-productive. But it's good to know that I'm not the only one who has this issue. I hope all our issues are solved swiftly, good luck to you all

  • Battery drains after upgraded to ios5

battery drains after upgraded to ios5 my iphone4

With iOS 5.0 battery life was terriable. Apple quickly fixed it with 5.01.  Now with 5.1 battery life is back to terrible.  I could go at least two days without a charge.  After the update (and all my patterns and behaviors being the same), I don't even get a full day!  Apple needs to fix this! Or allow us to go back to iOS 5.01.

  • Iphone 4s battery melts after ios 7.1

Last Friday I've upgraded to IOS 7.1. especially after learning that the upgrade is especially helpful for iphone 4s,
Yes it fastens the device but the battery "melts"
I've searched the issue from the web and applied all the suggestions to improve battery life after ios 7.1.
If I don't use internet facilities (even wi-fi) its OK, no problem,
But from the moment I begin to use wi-fi or cellular its like a count down 95-94-93-92...., feel really bad about it,
Now I just use it as a "phone" not a smart phone,
If a want to use it as a "smart phone" it is no longer a mobile- I shoul use it with battery charger,
Hope a fix will come as soon as possible,

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
If this doesn't help, back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file or maybe it's one of your apps causing problems. If it continues, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.

  • Heavy Battery Drain after updating to 8.1 Lumia Cy...

After updating my Lumia 1520 to 8.1 Cyan update, the battery drain is very high. The battery is lasting only for 6 to 7 hours when the data traffic is on  (under  mixed use of 2G and 3G modes). I have noticed few other users were also experiencing heavy battery drain after the Cyan update.
Will there be an update to fix this battery drain issue?
When the phone was in WP 8 Lumia Black update, battery backup was around 24-30 hrs (when data traffic was on).
What will be the workaround for this?

Yep, my 1520 battery drains like a helicopter that's lost it's rotor after this 8.1 update.
I was just boasting last weekend how awesome the battery life was on this phone, I drove 300mi with the GPS w/navigation, did some tethering to my laptop for work, went overnight..no charging, used lightly all the next day, few pictures, email, browsing, phone calls, and drove 300mi back on GPS/navigation and I still had 38% battery left.
I updated to 8.1 sunday night, and on my normal commute to a customer in another state, which under 8.0 would have drained oh...mabey 4-5%, I was at 62% by the time I got to this customer yesteday.
All I did was make a phone call, that's it. All background stuff is not allowed. location off, cortana off, ...still drains.
Bad bad bad news. I'm not seeing much usefull ness out of 8.1, and considering the battery life and no real new features....just gimmicks if you ask me, I'm not sure I want to stay at 8.1 . I'm trying to give it a chance...battery life is still better than my POS samsung androids I've had in the past, but knowing how good it really can be...and no real features in 8.1 (I was hopeing they'd fix the imap email not allowed to map sent/trash/inbox issue)....eshh...what a mess it seems.

  • Enormous battery drain after 3.01 upgrade

    guys and gals,
anyone of you experiencing a huge spike in battery drain after upgrading to firmware 3.01? On 3.0 my iphone 3gs had no probs but after my upgrade last night he ran out of juice within a few hours while I was sleeping. This morning I recharged it but an hour later the phone is allready down to 80% and feeling warm. I guess there is something running in the background but I cant figure out what. Turning the phone on/off doesnt seem to do a thing. Any ideas or personal experiences?

I did what you said in your 2nd post, and recharged the battery. after 6 hours, it was the charge was still at 100%!
then I used an app, IM+ Push for a few minutes and had disabled the Push functionality before quitting it. after an hour, I noticed that the battery issue was back. so deleted the said app, and the battery levels returned to normal.
This evening I re-installed the app, disabled the push functionality again and made sure to set my IM account to off before quitting. the problem hasn't re-occurred since then.
hope that this helps someone else who's having the same issue.

  • Battery drain after update to 10.2

i noticed high battery drain after i have updated to 10.2. i charged phone to 100% yesterday at 16:00 and now 17h later it is 61%. - i wrote 4 sms'es, 1 short phone call, and that's all. i tried restart few times, checked out if network settings are same as before, nothing helps.
battery application is estimating discharging speed at level of 1% every 24 min. before at the same usage it was at least 50 mins. i heard 10.2 has better battery efficiency, but not for me. anyone has similar experiences after update?

Double check that your Network settings are how you want them as after an upgrade they have a habit of changing.
On my Verizon phone it redefaulted to Global which really burned my battery instead of limiting it to LTE/CDMA, once I changed it back battery life was back (or better) than previously.

  • Battery drain after updating to iOS 5.1.1

After doing the update to iOS 5.1.1 the phone is getting hot "warm" near the processor and the battery drains about 1% per 10 mins in standby and 10X when running an app. Meaning that the phone will run about 6 hours when it used to run for 48 hours on a charge. When putting the phone in airplane mode battery life appears normal. Following others that have reported this issue, I've done a Reset All Settings and two Erase All Content and Settings then restored from back up. Unfortuately what worked for others has not worked for me...
Took the phone to the Apple store and was told by the genius that there are no issues with the update and that location servers were to blame. Explaining over and over and over again that none of those settings have changed and that the only thing that changed was the update I got no answers, just more frustrated.
Currently I have all location services off and wifi off but still have the same problem.
Looking to either find the magical reset sequence that others have has success with or just roll back the update.
    Help.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).

  • Severe battery drain with iOS 8.1.2

I am having severe battery drain issues with iOS 8.1.2 with all my iOS devices (iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Mini Retina, iPad Air). I can have my device in DND mode overnight with 100% battery, then the following morning I will wake up to find my device down to 20%. The battery usage graph shows nothing abnormal, just very rapid battery drain. What gives?! I saw a couple other threads mentioning this issue. I have attempted Network Reset and verifying Bluetooth is off, but this is just crazy. Anyone else get a resolution on this or experience this after iOS 8.1.2?

tldr; Check the secd process on your Mac. If it is consuming greater than 50MB of memory...turn off Keychain sync on ALL your devices.
    The Full Story
The last few months I've had instances where my iPhone would start getting really hot in my pocket, and the battery would drain at 3x the speed. After much research I also discovered that a process on my Mac (secd) had a vicious memory leak and that single process was consuming 13GB of memory and paging thousands of console messages. After discovering that the process was related to Keychain sync, I disabled keychain sync across all 5 of my devices. Immediately, the battery life on my iPhone was restored to normal.
After I reenabled Keychain sync across all my devices, everything would run fine for a while, but after a few weeks, the problem would resurface. And I would repeat the process of turning it off on all my devices, to effectively reset the iCloud keychain data.
Anyway, Apple does need to fix this, as it affects performance on both OSX and iOS.

  • A fix that works for your battery drain with iOS 8.2

After I updated my iPhone 4s to the new iOS 8.2 I found my battery life had become terrible.  I could barely make it through an 8 hour day at work before my phone would die.  It was so bad that I had to get myself a second charger to plug it in during the day.  Even then, if I used the phone at all, it would still lose its charge while plugged in.
Before this update, my phone would easily last through the day and would not need to be plugged in before I went to bed.  Even at midnight when I'd go to rest for the night, my phone was never below 70% and most times it would still be well above 80% but not so with iOS 8.2  So here is a fix I found on another forum somewhere.  I was desperate so I tried it and low and behold, it worked great.
    Here goes:
Let your phone die completely until it turns off by itself
Plug it in your charger until it comes back on again (around 6% for mine)
Turn it back off using the top button and the slider on the phone
Leave it plugged in for 2 to 3 hours or until you figure it would have reached 100%
Unplug the phone and turn it on
Now reboot your device (turn it off and back on again)
That's it.  This fixed it for me and for many on the forum where this was posted.  My battery life is back to what it was before my update to iOS 8.2.  I have plenty of battery life left when I get home after work.
Try it and pass it on....it works.

Use the Settings app to determine what apps or processes are using your battery the most. Once you know what is causing the battery drain you can take steps to reduce it.
Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage
Wait a few seconds for the device to bring up the list of apps with their battery usage.
