Panels - I don't want "drop zones" or stucked zones or nothing (CS4)

Morning all,
All I want is to move a panel without it auto stuck auto drop to any existing panel or group.
I am so exhausted from it.
I searched and searched for a solution, could not find any.
I tried to move them with command pressed but they still go to the drop zone.
(I have drop zone)
can't i cancel drop zones?
I just want to move them without paying attention to that all the time.

Dave, that's exactly what I don't like about them. I want my panels at my fingertips, coming and going at the press of an f-key, neatly arrayed at the edges of my screens.
Buko, I have a second monitor so I can see the photo I am retouching at print size, so I can see how the paragraph style options I am changing affect the density of the page and the legibility of the paragraph, not so I can turn it over to interface clutter.

I continue to be frustrated.
One of the worst things an interface can do is take control away from the user by attempting to guess what the user intends and getting it wrong. Panels used to work great, but now, to me, they're badly broken.

How can another user on my system share their document if they cannot access a public drop box, do not have an email account setup on the system and we don't want to use iwork?

Save the document from his account to an external drive or thumb drive.
Set the permissions (using Finder > Get Info) for "Everyone" to Read and Write.
Your DS will likely be the owner of the file, so you may need his login password to change the permissions.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Why all pictures don't play in drop zones?

I have asked this question before, but still my pictures don't play in all the drop zones. Very simply I drop 4 pictures in 4 drop zones (Theme 5.0, Wedding White). Only three pictures show up in the loop. I change the length of the loop but nothing change. Basically, what is the reason of having 4 drop zones if only 3 play?

My 'Wedding White' also plays only three pictures, but there is a fourth possibility for the heart shaped button.
This button normally links to and plays the first few seconds of the main movie, but you can play any video clip you like in the button by option-dragging a clip over the button and dropping it. I prepare special clips for this using Quicktime Pro.
Be careful! If you simply drop it without the option key, the button will 'see' the drop as a new movie to link to, instead of the main movie.

No way to tell... You should not use them for a few days and leave them a warm well-ventilated location. After that, if they seem to be working fine, you are probably OK.

I want to do a drag and drop but don't want it to be a test. This is for brain storming---not a test.
None of the items to drag are correct or incorrect---they are just ideas. For example the 20 items could be different things you might put in your suitcase for vacation. There are no wrong answers---just your preference.
There are 20 items to be dragged. There is only one drag target. All 20 items can go to that 1 drag target.
I don't want the learner to have to drag all of the items to the target in order to finish. For example, the learner might leave 3 items out because the learner doesn't like those items. I want the learner to be able to hit submit (or any other button) at any time and go to the next slide immediately, not have to finish the drag and drop. Any ideas?

Also be aware that if you add a quiz to the project, that the drag and drop and quiz affect each other.
In a way we have been cheated into thinking that is also a learning tool for repeated attempts. With a quiz in the project it does not work.
I also tried it without the quiz. When learners now use it, the drag and drop will "hang" at times. EMBARRASING when a client phones you with a stuck learning session!!

New Firefox upgrade limits my drop down options & I don't want to move browsers!

Ever since I upgraded to the new Firefox, my drop down options are limited for example when I need to select a birth date it only shows up to the 20th.
Makes it really difficult for me to do everything especially for university.. I have to use another computer or browser but I really don't want to move from Firefox so I'm holding on!
I have tried taking off add ons, uninstalling and safe mode. Nothing worked. It only happened after I updated.

Drop zones don't seem to respect in/out...

I'm trying to get started using iMovie HD for some of my simpler projects, but I can't seem to understand the edit model of the application. It seems like a hybrid of the old iMovie and Final Cut in ways that completely confuse me.
I've imported a 5 minute clip. I then use Cmd-T to split it up into usable and un-needed pieces. Then I try to use some of the clips in the theme's dropzones. In all cases it plays from the beginning of the orginal clip and not from the beginning of the split. So it seems like Cmd-T only sets in/out point on the duplicated clip and the drop zones don't respect that. I don't seem to see any option to crop to only the non-hidden frames, nor a way to easily even see the hidden frames to delete them manually.
I would have expected this to still be one of the easy operations, and not a "power user" feature, so I must be overlooking something. Is there any good way to extra subclips from a master clip for use in drop zones? Or do I need to just reimport the master clip as subclips to begin with?

Welcome to the forum!
No, you're not overlooking something. You've stumbled across an iMovie HD bug, where the drop zone plays the entire SOURCE FILE of the clip, not the split clip that's just part of the file.
The workaround is to export your split clip to a Full Quality movie — use the "Share selected clips only" checkbox in the export dialog to export just that clip — then import THAT movie back into the project. Drop the new movie into the drop zone and it should play correctly.

Why all pictures don't show up in the drop zones?

If I import, for example, 4 pictures in a theme that has three drop zones, only one or two pictures will show up when the loop plays and not in the order I have arranged them in the drop zones. Is there a way to sequence through all 4 pictures in each drop zone? Can for instance the loop be made longer than, in my case 0.28 min (5.0 "Memories" theme)?

What you mean by "You can only load the same number of images into the number of drop zones and expect the theme to function properly."?
Do you mean that I must have the same number of images, (for example 4) for each drop zone? Or,maybe, one image in drop zone 1, 2 images in drop zone 2 etc. for the drop zones to work properly?

I don't understand how the drop zone works in Title effects.

I am having trouble understanding how the drop zone in the "Keynote" title effect works. I added the title effect to my storyline. In the inspector, Title tab, I selected the clip in the Event library, in this case a tiff photo. The thumbnail and clip title display in the inspector, but the clip does not display in the Viewer when I play the storyline even after FCPX has rendered.
Am I missing something in my understanding of this title effect or is there a problem in FCPX (10.0.6)? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

There are two ways in which drop zones are available in the Keynote title template. What Luis has shown you is the normal way in which a title placed over a clip shows you the original clip with the title text. That is called a Final Cut placeholder type of drop zone. Keynote also offers a drop zone to be used as a background choice instead of a gradient or solid as you see in Luis's post. This makes a very nice title effect as you can use any clip for that background. That is what I thought you were refering to when you you said drop zone. Keynote is one of the nicer titles we have available in FCP because of this feature. Glad you got it sorted out.

How to add more drop zones or movies in an idvd menu

I was building a dvd in idvd and ran out of drop zones to fill but I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones.
I tried different templates but I could find none that had more than 12 drop zones.
Then I was adding movies to the main menu and idvd refused to allow more movies added when I reached 10 movies. It said that the template did not accept more movies.
I tried a few other templates and could not get it to accept more.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
Is there some way to add more than the default drop zones in an idvd template and to add more movies in a menu without having to use submenus?

You need to figure out how to work with what is available.
If you want more freedom, buy Apple's Final Cut Studio and learn to use DVD Studio Pro.

I don't want all the songs on my iPod

I have several songs on my computer that I don't want on my iPod as they're songs my wife listens to. How can I select which ones I want when I sync?

Do it in computer iTunes.
Make a playlist in iTunes, drag and drop songs you like into playlist
Plug your iPod Touch into computer.
In iTunes select your iPod Touch (left panel), select Music tab (top right).
Check Sync Music, choose Selected playlists, artists, album....
On the left select your playlist then sync (bottom right).

Adding pictures to a theme, but not in the drop zones...

I'd like to add a/some picture(s) to a iDVD theme, but not in the drop zones. I'd like my pictures to appear as layers, choose whoch one goes in front, and so on...
Is there any way to do that?

In that case you would need to prepare the background as a QT movie exactly the way you want to display it as a background movie and then drag and drop that prepared QT file to iDVD.
I've never done this type of movie in iLife apps alone but I have with FCP & DVD SP which offers these additional video editing options for sizing pip and frames in an existing movie / menu.
Also check the help Menu for iDVD6 (and iMovie) if you haven't already. I did a search for you and here's what I came up with:
Changing the background image of a DVD menu
You can replace the background image in a menu with your own image. Images in menu backgrounds are cropped to fit the standard DVD window size, but the aspect ratio of the original image is preserved. If you want your image to fit the DVD window exactly, first use an image-editing application to resize the image to 640 x 480 for standard video and 854 x 480 for widescreen.
When you replace a background image, you can also choose to keep the drop zones or remove them completely.
Here are ways to change the background image:
Drag a picture file from the Finder or the Media pane to a DVD menu background, outside a drop zone. Before you drop the picture, press the Command key and choose "Replace background" or "Replace background and drop zones" from the contextual menu that appears (shown above). Then release the mouse button.
Click the Menu button and drag a picture file from the Finder to the background well in the Menu pane. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones disappear.
Click the Media button, then click Photos. Drag a photo from your iPhoto library or another folder to your DVD menu. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
Choose File > Import > Image, locate and select an image, and click Import. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
To remove a background image and return to the default image for the theme, click the Menu button and drag the image out of the background well (shown above).

Drop Zones in FCPX used to be videos, now show icons

I made a long video using motion transitions and build-ins with drop zones. When originally applied, you dropped them onto the timeline above the vide you wanted them to work with, and the video would play behind it with it showing through the drop zone portions. It was a very nice effect. I have to reexport my movie, and I'm now updated with FCPX 10.0.5 (I believe I lasted exported at 10.0.2 in Lion), and now the dropzones just show the downward arrow, the video won't display through.
Anyone else encouter this? Any solutions? Adding them into the dropzone frame just creates still images, which is stupid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).

With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.
