Panels refuse to resize, re-dock and behave strangely

Working on ID CS5, Mac. For no apparent reason whenever I drag a panel out of the dock it refuses to resize, and once out, will not be dragged to a new position. Any attempt to resize makes it spring back and not response. I have reset preferences, I have re-installed InDesign and then reset preferences again, but all to now avail. Panels behaviour is fine in Photoshop, so it does not appear to be a CS5 problem.

Mac, OS 10.6.4.

IChat Does Not Activate iMac's Camera and Behaving Strangely

Hello,
I opened up iChat this morning in an effort to place a video call with my father across the country. We've done this plenty of times without issue. We both own new 27" iMacs with built in iSight cameras and have fast internet connections. All software and the OS is up to date. Today, however, we could not connect and it became evident that my iChat application was the cause of the problem. Repeated attempts to initiate video calls resulted in nothing. Clicking on the video chat icon yielded nothing.
When I open up iChat's preferences, nothing happens either. By selecting it a second time, I eventually get the preferences window to open up with a message: "Select a button first!" I can select the General tab, as well as Accounts, Messages, and Alerts. However, when I click on the Audio/Video tab, nothing happens. The application behaves like I didn't click anything and keeps the previously selected preferences tab active.
To investigate the issue further, I opened up another Apple camera app: Photo Booth. Oddly, Photo Booth immediately crashes. Among other things, the report generated says the following: "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '+[ compositionWithFile:]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x7fff70d91b08'"
When I open up Skype, the camera is recognized and powered on (green LED turns on) and I can have video conversations. Skype works great. So it appears Apple based applications utilizing the built in camera are having issues. Actually, I just tested video recording within Quicktime Player without issue.
Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? I realize my father and I can use Skype to make our video call, but it's the screen sharing functionality built into iChat that we need to use. And for whatever reason, this functionality also does not work within iChat. Selecting the option "Share screen with..." results in nothing- as if I didn't select it. It's very frustrating not to all least get an error.

That is a different one.
Never seen or heard of that.
Summary so I can list what I understand.
Clicking your Own video icon next to your Buddy pic show nothing.
The Audio/Video section of the iChat Preferences is not available.
Clicking a Buddy's Video icon also produces nothing.
Can you say where you saw this ?

Was it in Console and did it have any info on what app or framework was involved ?
This would seem to implicate the com.apple.ichat.plist
(there used to be an Error that would stop the Preferences appearing at all - related to the fact iChat windows never have the top right oblong white Hide/Reveal Tool Bar option button).
However iChat also has a "Software camera" as it is called that does the bit about doing the Screen Sharing.
iChat also uses two files (in this case) about Video production.
One I am sure about (a USB digitiser) and a second (ApplePixelSomething) that I am not so sure about.
I believe the first makes a UVC complaint camera look like a DV input to iChat and Photo Booth.
If you are at 10.6.6 this run this Combo Version of the Installer over the tops of what you have.

Hopefully this will correct any faults with these files (If they have been updated since the OS came out).
You could try deleting com.apple.ichat.plist
This is found in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences
Drag it to the Trash and restart iChat if open.
This will recreate the .plist from default held in the iChat app.
It does remove all the settings you have made in the iChat Preferences:-
Font
Font Colour
Background to IM colour
Saved Transcripts
and so on

IMovie will not show images or sound from my DV and behaves strangely

I am using a panasonic pv-gs50d, and am coonecting via a firewire cable. While iMovie indicates the camera is connected and states when it is playing, pausing etc. it will not show any images or play any sound on the iMovie screen. Further the actual program itself behaves very erratically, when I scroll over the start, stop etc. buttons, they dissappear and reappear, and the preferences option cannot be started. Does anyone know what this probelm is. The camera works fine on my powerbook which is using iMovie 4. Thanks

So I was searching though the discussions and I came across a post about opening garage band, playing a few notes and then going back to iMove. I tried it and it now works fine.

Optical drive and hard drive overheating and behaving strangely

Hi All,
I purchased a MacBook white a few months ago so that I could do some development for the iPhone. I have noticed that after extended use (I just finished installing Windows 7 with Boot Camp) that the optical drive heats up a lot and starts to become unresponsive. I have also noticed that the hard-drive has a similar issue; if I leave the computer on at night doing something (recently, I left it on to format some videos in .mp4 for the iPod Touch) that I can lose files inexplicably. For example, only half of the videos I converted actually showed up on the HDD after it had finished converting all of them.
Are these problems normal? I have managed to circumvent them somewhat by propping the laptop up on an angle so it isn't pressed directly against the table.
The optical drive has now become so unresponsive when hot that I can't do things like install programs from it or copy data.

As for the taking apart part. I'm not too worried. I've read quite a bit on the subject and watched a couple youtube videos. Also, i've taken a iBook G4 apart to it's core to replace that hard drive and did it without a hitch.
I'm a little unsure about the interface for the Optical Drive. From what i've read the HD is a SATA connection. While, the Optical Drive connection is IDE. Is that normal for one computer to have both?
I found two drives both around $100 for each. One is SATA the other is IDE.

Also, the HD from Newegg that I posted above, runs at 3GB/s. I've remember reading somewhere that my iMac will only run the drive at 1.5GB/s. Is that true?

"This accessory is not supported" usually refers to an inability to charge the iPod, but the music should still play throguh the Bose dock. My iPod Touch works this way.
However, when the Bose refuses to make any sound, I unplug it from mains power for one minute. Then plug it back in and try again. This always sorts out the sound issue, but of course, it still will not charg the Touch.
What happens in your case?

Brush 'Tool Presets' not resizing and behaving erratically.

Hello all,
I'm running Ps CS6 Extended on a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. My problem is that suddenly my brush 'tool presets' seem to have gone crazy. Standard pencil brushes won't resize (in fact anything with a texture ticked on in the brush panel seems to be having trouble) and others are just spitting out plain old rubbish.
I haven't updated anything or run anything different.. It just seemed to happen and now won't go back...
Is this an issue that anyone has encountered before? Let me know what other info would be helpful to fully explain the issue...
A similar thing did happen with one random brush ages ago. I couldn't resolve it so I just ignored it. But now my whole set is messed up. It's weird...

I've tried, restarting everything. I've tried opening the .tpl's in an older version of Photoshop that I have (CS5.1 Extended) - and they work fine (that version also has Colourus 2 and Perspective Create extensions that I have on CS6), so I know the .tpl's are sound and the brush info is saved correctly in them.
I tried 'reset brushes' in the tool preset drop down menu... But I don't know what "reset Preferences" is - should I be looking in Photoshop>Preferences...?
I tried 'reset tool' but that just makes the brushes go back to their earliest round brush form.
Any other ideas? Thanks for thinking on this...

Some Panels will not Resize

Working on Windows XP SP2, IDCS3. A friend's paragraph panel and one other panel will not resize. All other panels function normally.
We tried:
- Resetting her preferences
- Resetting her panels
- Closing and reopening the particular 2 panels
- Moving the panels to different parts of the screen (docked, undocked)
No luck. Any ideas?

Dock and Internet Connection Problem

Since downloading some software updates recently, my computer has been behaving strangely. Most notably, I no longer have an internet connection on my Mac. My Mac is the computer connected to my wireless router and my other computers pick up the internet signal fine. Network Diagnostics show all aspects FAILED.
This all became apparent when I hit F12 to access my Dashboard. All of my widgets were INOP and then my Dock went dead--wouldn't pop up. I had to restart my computer to get my dock to show.
Can anyone help?

Well after some troubleshooting, it looks like my network card may be the culprit. Does anyone know the cost of replacing one and/or where I can order one if it comes to that? Maybe it's just some settings (wishful thinking?). Can anyone help?

Cs4 Zoom Resize...and a litte rant...and then a plea.

Hey Adobe, I've been a Photoshop user for over a decade and, for as long as I can remember, the two zoom resize options (the one attached to the zoom tool option bar and the one in the preferences menu) have allowed me to set the window resize option for my keyboard zoom and my zoom tool independently. This was tremendously useful for me since most of the time I don't want to resize my window and the keyboard shortcut would zoom in and out of my image in a useful and predictable manner. Having the second option was great because it allowed me to fit my image to a smaller or larger window with a single click of the zoom tool.
I was reading the online help for the the zoom resize function and, under the comments, another user had the same concern that, though there are STILL two options, they no longer were independent. Much to my disappointment an adobe representative (somewhat pompasly) remarked that the zoom functionality was flawed previously and that it's current inception, with two options that do the same thing and are thus redundant, it is the more consistent (implying correct) manner in which the functionality ought to behave. I strongly contest that point of view and feel that I, as an expert user, have been undermined in favor of a arbitrarily dumbed down solution that adds several seconds to operations that I perform perhaps hundreds of times daily.
This brings me to a related but separate point. The update of the user interface from CS3 to CS4, with the change to the zoom functionally being at the heart of the issue, is inferior to previous versions. There are many new issues a few of which I will list for your benefit:
A liberal waste of my screen real estate in the palettes and menus
Annoying and unpredictable tab behavior (whcih still seem to crop up even though I have both options disabled)
Minimized windows that cannot be moved
A mind bogglingly poor lay out of the adjustment layer palettes (massive, unscalable, with textless icons and tiny handles on razor thin color bars)
'Full screen with menu" mode that now covers up my windows task bar (really, Adobe how dare you?)
Utterly mystifying hit areas of color palette sliders which will select and move the wrong slider if I don't click precisely on the intended one
Poor performance under openGL (I have a Nvidia 8800 which is a middle-high end card).
By my own, totally subjective account, It is fundamentally worse... for me.
Now I'm sure there are many users who are happy with the updates you have made and I applaud you for catering to your base, but why in God's name would you remove and redisgn functionality without offering the option of employing the previous inception. It is a slap in the face, Adobe. So I emplore you as a loyal coustomer, as a user who depends on your software for my livelyhood and as a design professional who interacts with your product more than my family...Please give me more control over the UI of your software. Please don't remove change functionallty. It frustrates me and wastes hundreds of hours of my time over the course of a year. Let me have two window resize options!

I can't open any app on my mac, they just flicker on the dock and nothing

I'm using MacBook Pro 13in Early 2011 and recent update to Mavericks, I cant open any application on my mac. There is an updates on app store but I can't use them cause the app store refuse to open. When I open any apps they just flicker on the dock and nothing. What to do apart from formating my computor again?

Docking and splitter container

Hi,
I need to create 2 containers as per the attached document, that are resizeable in both x and y axis.
I have been able to do this, similar to in transaction DWDM, where I have 2 cl_gui_container's inside a customer container.
But this solution does not allow resizing in the vertical axis, as they are tied inside the "fixed" customer container.
Is there a way to create the docking and splitters that allow both axis resizing?

Panel refresh during resize

Hello, everyone!
I have a trouble working with resizing a components placed on the panel group layout.
When i resize a panel an appropriate actions are invoked and panel resizes but the content of a panel doesnt refresh, it is still old.
How can i make a refresh a panel during resize?

The second way to resize a panel - is manually drag a mouse pointer.
So, when I manually resize a panel - everything is okey, but if a call a method collapseVertSplitter() - a panel resizes but the content of a panel doesnt refresh.
Can it be a problem that when an action is invoked the panel by this moment has not resized yet? Maybe i need something like "after resize" event handler?
The version of JDeveloper is 11.1.1.3.0.

Led panel flickering - noticable in low brightness and white backgrounds

Hello I have an HP Pavilion x2 10 and it has a very annoying problem. The screen is randomly flickering especiall when set to a low bringhtness setting. Pages with white backgrounds are more noticable but still the screen flickers a lot. Tried to disable Intel HD grapfics power saving but still the issue is there.
any ideas?
It flickers both docked and undocked and on power or AC ... sometimes it stops for 30-40 seconds but after a while it starts to flicker again.
Anbybody else with this issue?

Sounds like a defective panel then, get it replaced.

When i open Contacts (address book) it comes up full page. I want it to look like it did originally. Like the picture in the Dock and show a page at a time.ThanksTerry

position the window where you want it to be in your display

Open Address Book = the default size and position should be right where you Quit from

Need help with my dock and startup applications!

Hi, this is my first time using a mac. I've just bought a Macbook pro w/ Mountain Lion a few days ago and I'm sort of getting frustrated with the dock. It seems that everything I download or frequently used apps are continuously being added on my dock. How do I remove them from dock without actually deleting the application permanently from my mac?
In relation to the problem above, I don't know if this helps but the app on my dock is nowhere to be found on my application menu and I tried dragging it onto the application menu (hoping that it would relocate itself there) but that didn't work.
Also, everytime I start up my macbook, my Mail and activity monitor apps automatically pops up everytime. Is there a way to prevent them from starting up without my permission?

No, that's a different problem:
Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion/Mountain Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.
