Panic Attack: iPhoto 7.1.5 slide show Blank

I recently copied over my entire iPhoto Library from my G5 Quad to my MBP. After opening iPhoto, I selected one of the groups to play a slide show. Everything worked fine. (I used the option to create the slide show using the right arrow button on the lower bottom left of the application.)
I then decided to add music. I then copied my iTunes library over from my Quad to MBP. I then opened iTiunes to make sure everything work and it did.
I then selected the music playlist I wanted to play in the background of my Slide show and started the slide show--problem is now the slide show is blank almost all the time. Maybe every 20 seconds or so a slide comes up. The music plays fine.
I hve tried the following to resolve the problem:
1. Rebooted
2. Repaired disk permissions
3. Unselected music
4. Tried selecting a different picture group
5. Change Transition
6. Unselected "scale photos to fill screen'
Yet I get the same blank slide show. I have to give this slide show tomorrow, so now I am now experiencing a panic attack. Any ideas where to start?

I copy the entire 'Pictures' folder over from another Mac and then put it into the MBP Pictures folder. That is what did not work.
Hw did you point iPhoto at this library.
On the second version, I copied just the iPhoto File (35 GBs) and then drag it into iPhoto on the MBP. After it loaded the pictures (6000 of the), I noticed that the albums on the lower left of iPhoto did not come over in the copy and import.
This is not how you restore a Library. What you’ve done there when you
drag it into iPhoto
is have all the pics and versions treated as individual items. There is no way to import a database into another one like this.
The trick is to copy the Library to the Pictures Folder and then launch iPhoto. That’s it. There’s no importing involved. If you have more than one library then Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

    You don't.
Slideshows are exported as movies and these are very large files. Email is not an appropriate medium for very large files as they can cause immense issues for the receiver.
Better to share some other way.

    Hi
SlideShow in iDVD has a 99 photo limit - more than this and all sorts of error occures.
One can have more than one SlideShow on a DVD = X times 99 photos.
or assemble SlideShows in a movie editor (no limit at least not under 650 photos)
(only limit is Time in iDVD (movie time + MENU time --- 60 min or 120 min on SL-DVD and about twice on DL.-DVD )
    I use
    • iMovie up to HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
As they will give a better quality than iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 can do.

  • IPhoto faces playing the slide show started saying "alert photo can't be opened because couldn't find original

Iphoto faces playing the slide show-Started sayin "alert photo cant be oppened because it couldnt find the original. What does that mean?

do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library (that option is unchecked)

  • IPhoto started running my slide show in reverse?  Why?  Can I fix it?

Created a 46 photo slideshow.  After running it a few times I dragged one photo to a new location and now the slide show runs in reverse. Is there a way to control the direction a slideshow runs or to otherwise resolve this problem?  This makes slideshow unreliable hence unusable.  Help.  Thanks!

I think I have found the answer...
After  fighting this issue for a few days I went to Apple iphoto tutorial where it shows how to arrange your album as you want it,... and THEN create a "New Slideshow".
This appears to be a new requirement to me,  as I was previously able to show my albums as slideshows in the proper order from the "ALBUM". I just created a "New Slideshow" - and it works just like the ALBUM did before.

  • IPhoto does not retain slide show settings

I'm making a simple slide show using the Ken Burns effect. Some of the transitions work well, but others cut off the tops of heads and titles I imported from another program. I find Title slides very difficult to create in iPhoto but that's another story.
There doesn't seem to be any way to save or finalize a slide show. Just when I think I've set it the way I want, it takes over and starts cutting off pieces of the images. I have tried cropping within iPhoto, or editing in Photoshop using the "edit in external editor" option. My changes do not get saved so there are ridiculous unprofessional chopped-off slides. I'd like this to look right before I post it at my organization's website and am getting frustrated.

Success! Thank you so much. I would have replied sooner but I spent the morning going through your advice step by step and every time I gave my slide show a tweak - it worked.
As I enter this reply I am exporting the slideshow so it can be uploaded.
In case this should be helpful to another user I'll go through your queries:
Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album of photos or user the iPhoto Slideshow mode?
    • I am still blundering along figuring out the distinctions between Events and Albums. In this case I imported my slides into the Photos section, in carefully numbered sequence because on my previous import they ended up in a confusing mess. I dragged and dropped the numbered files into the slideshow I was creating.
Are the cut off photos in the portrait orientation?
    • Mostly, but not always.
Are you using the Ken Burns theme or applying KB to selected photos?
    • I used KB, even though I knew I was asking for trouble…
    What theme are you using?
    • KB was the theme I picked because it seemed to work best for this set of images. I tried Classic with dissolves but after tweaking using your information, preferred KB and am using it.
First guess is that you have the optiion to Scale photos to fill screen selected:
    • I was completely ignorant of this feature. Very important!
If you're using a specific theme some of them do not handle portrait oriented photos well. They do get cut off at top and bottom.
    • I will keep that in mind for future slide shows.
Also set the aspect ration to TV: 4:3 unless the photos are in the widescreen size ratio: 16:9
    • This may have been the final setting for success.
Now I can face my boss

  • IPhoto 11 crashes when slide show theme is selected

My iPhoto 11 on Lion freezes when slide show theme button is selected. Anyone else experience this?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • The way iPhoto makes choices for slide shows?

So far I have been having very good luck with iPhoto and slide shows using the "scrapbook" layout. It is doing about 99% of what I want. Here are my current 2 issues:
    1. As I see it, iPhoto is determining, based on the photo, what kind of presentation to use for each picture (whether it is vertical, horizontal, the 5 pane with the oval in the center, etc.). My question is whether there is a way to control that for a particular slide? Can I force a picture to be horizontal? Can I force which picture is where in the 5 pane slide? Sometimes that oval overlaps an important piece of the underlying photo.
    2. My second issue is that I have a woman sitting in a chair with a baby laying on her lap. iPhoto insists on making a slide of the woman, but crops out the baby on her lap. How can I force more of the picture being shown?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated...
    Paul

As I see it, iPhoto is determining, based on the photo, what kind of presentation to use for each picture (whether it is vertical, horizontal, the 5 pane with the oval in the center, etc.).
It’s not the size, it’s the Aspect Ratio - whether it’s landscape or Portrait layout.
My question is whether there is a way to control that for a particular slide? Can I force a picture to be horizontal?
Only by cropping the pic into landscape
Can I force which picture is where in the 5 pane slide?
Make sure it’s the fifth pic in the sequence
My second issue is that I have a woman sitting in a chair with a baby laying on her lap. iPhoto insists on making a slide of the woman, but crops out the baby on her lap. How can I force more of the picture being shown?
Crop it to focus on the preferred subject.

  • Using iphoto to drive a slide show through a digital projector

This is a very basic question. If you create a slide show on iphoto, can you use it with a projector, and if so, is it just a case of connecting the projector to the computer?
    Mark

If you create a slide show on iphoto, can you use it with a projector,
    Yes.
and if so, is it just a case of connecting the projector to the computer?
Largely, yes, but it will ultimately depend on the model of projector.

  • Is there has limit about iPhoto to export the slide show

is there has any limit how many picture can i make a slide show to export??? about 68 is it okay??

You could use the iPod AV cable only and connect the yellow colored RCA jack to the yellow colored RCA input socket on the projector. If your slide show is photos only I suggest you transfer your photos at "full resolution". This takes up more room on your iPod but when you project your images on a large screen you may be more happy with the outcome. With your iPod connected to your computer select your iPod under "Devices" in iTunes and click on the "Photos" tab. Click the box that reads "Include full-resolution photos".
    hope this helps

  • Bridge Slide Show Blank White screen (NEW)

I get a blank white screen when I hit Apple L.(same when I go to VIEW click slide show) I have reinstalled CS3 3 times. Upgraded driver for Video card. Very thing else works OK. this is driving me crazy. I am using a G 5 Pro,operating system 10.5, 5 gig ram, Radon 9600 video card. Checked all setting nothing helps. Not getting ans. to this question I went in an deleted preferences. Now nothing works. Photoshop seem to work normally.

I get a blank gray screen when trying to view a slide show in bridge. Have G5 10.5.1 with dual 1.8 GHz and 2 BG ram. Everything but slide show works in bridge. I have re-installed Leopard and CS3.
Adobe advised trying bridge/slide show in safe boot. Works in safe boot. Adobe says to check activity monitor in safe boot and regular boot to see what's on causing problem in regular boot. Activity monitor the same in both boots.
I think problem is Adobe but I think they are finished helping.

  • Why is slide show blank?

I went to the Organizer and picked three images with which to create a slide show. Then I clicked to preview, and nothing showed up.  Why not?  I also saved it as a movie file to see if it would do the trick.  Nope.  Thanks.

    Hi Ankush,
Thanks for the reply. I found another solution that seemed to work from another forum. That is to run PSE as Admin. So I went and right clicked on PSE on the desktop and selected "Run as Administrator". When I did this and I created a slideshow, the pictures were showing.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    New kid on the block.

In the slideshow mode there will be a slide tray at the top of the window.  There you can move photos to where you want them in the play order:

  • In iPhoto why does a slide show  from an album run in reverse?

Under OSX 10.9 in iPhoto why does a slideshow from an album run in reverse?

    Two tests:
    A:
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
    B:
Log into another user account and try a slideshow from there.  Does the problem persist there?

  • I am having difficulties with iPhoto slideshow.  The slide show stops in the middle of a presentation and the system crashes.  I must power off to exit the app and restart my MacBook pro.

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:
    BJReis wrote:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.
