Panic Error on Co-workers Computer

My coworker was installing some updates and exited in the middle, now when she starts her computer (even when trying safe mode) the apple logo pops up, the bar starts to load and this message pops up (see attached screen shot), it goes away after a few seconds and the process starts again.
She's using Yosemite on a 1 year old iMac, any ideas on what I can do to fix it?
Thank you
Pat

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.4-Cisco Connect-shutdowns kernel panic error-EA6500

    I have:
    - Mac Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.4
    - EA6500 with the latests updates (firmware..) all downloaded from Linksys web
When I install Cisco Connect to setup a USB printer, the software has some kind of conflict with OS X 10.8.4 and the system has unexpected & repentine shutdowns with a restart shutdown panic error report.
If I unistall Cisco Connect the problem doesn´t happen again
After checking all available guides and software, there is no way to solve the issue. I also chat with Linksys support and they have no idea how solve it.
It is for sure a problem of Cisco Connect software compatibility with OS X 10.8.4.
Please, some solution from Linksys or a workaround with Mac terminal commands?
DON´T INSTALL CISCO CONNECT SOFTWARE TILL ISSUE SOLVED!!

Cisco Connect would not work with a router using a Linksys Smart Wifi firmware. Also, VUSB is not going to work with MAC OS 10.8 yet. Hopefully Linksys would release an update that would support MAC 10.8 on VUSB.

  • Kernel Panic Error after waking from sleep mode

My MacBook Air (5.2) was purchased in February and has been back to the Genius Bar twice to try to identify the issue causing the kernel panic error that occurs after the computer is placed in sleep mode (running on battery or AC).  GB was unable to reproduce the errors when the laptop was left overnight during it's most recent visit (4/18/13).  This leads me to believe it's related to my wireless router/printer drivers.  Very frustrating and I'm just about ready to turn this back into Apple since I'm wasting more time trouble-shooting than enjoying the computer!

    - Is this a reasonable suspect causing my daily (or more) kernel panics?

  • Kernal panic error

Been having problems with imac for weeks now, cutting off after using for a short period of time. Had sent it away to be repaired 3 times, first 2 times the logic board was replaced, the 3 time the logic board and power supply were replaced. Got it back today and instead of cutting off it is now displaying kernal panic errors after being on for approx 15 mins.
Here is the report that displays when turning it back on, can anyone help?

    Aurora,
It appears you have Sophos antivirus software installed on your computer. This appears to be what is causing the KP. Because there are no viruses for OS X having antivirus software is not necessary, I'm guessing you may have come from a PC background and may be carrying the notion antivirus software is necessary for OS X too. Antivirus software frequently causes more issues than it solves as you are now seeing. Try following the manufacturers instructions for uninstalling, then uninstall, once you have removed it empty the trash. Next restart the computer in Safe Mode to clear some of the caches. Then restart normally and see how your computer performs.

  • Kernel Panic Error on boot up

    Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this....
Everytime I boot my Macbook Pro (2012, 15inch Retina version) it gets stuck in a boot- kernel panic error-reboot loop. Ive mananged to boot into it (see below) to take a look at the logs, I have attached the log to the bottom of this post.
I have windows installed on this computer too, so I tried booting into it and I seem to get the same situation - windows reboots after what I can only assume to be a kernal panic.
Now interestingly if I hold down shift during the boot onosx (NOT booting into safe mode, after the spinning icon is already showing) I can boot up - I am not sure why though? I assume I am disabling some kernal extensions?
    Things I have done:
Run the mac hardware test 3 times, no errrors reported
Run disc checking/verifying 3 times, no problems reported
Checked kext to see if there are any non official extensions, none all are com.apple.* or NVIDA stuff
    Reset NVRAM and SMC controller
I am not really a mac expert but looking at that log it looks graphics card related? To test this - I downloaded gfxCardStatus and forced it to use the discrete graphics card and it seems to be using it with no problems. I the forced only the on board card to check if that was ok and it was.
So where should I go from here? If it was a hardware failure it would be happening every time and I wouldnt be able to use the shift key to boot up right?
If it was only software, why would it be happening to windows too?
    Help me please!
    Anyway, thanks for reading this.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Kernel Panic Errors 0x0039BDDF

Hi everyone in the forum i am new here and dont know whether this is the right place to post this question i tried searching the forums and the faq's on this site first but didnt find any solution i would be thank ful if some one could help me with this problem.
ok My problem is as follows:
I have a mac book with mac os x 10.4 tiger installed.I've installed windows as well using boot camp as in the documentation.I regularly allow my mac book to update as a best practice.I've had no problems for the past one and half year everything was fine but it was three days back that mac failed to start. No error messages just a grey screen with a small folder image blinking on the screen and all this happens after almost 15 mins from the time i start the mac book.I debugged the problem and this error message was displayed :
error : Panic (cpu 0 caller 0x0039BDDF): unable to find driver for this platform ACPI.
and a long list of error messages with an additional 'needs restart' error.I searched the web and found this solution at this link
    http://www.macfixitforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=tiger&Number=827659&page=0 &view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1
My basic problem is i dont find the hard drive at all no mac files nor the windows files.Even if I connect an external hard drive i dont find the files in external hard drive. What is the exact problem and how do i solve it I have very important files that i cannot avoid.Even if ignore this importance of files in the mac book i am also unable to reinstall mac because the hard drive where to install mac is not shown at all.
Hope some one responds to my problem......
    Thankyou...

The Kernel Panic error has a downloadable fix. That might cause other problems with the computer, as it did on mine. I unfortunately do no remember the name of the fix, but if all you care about is not having a kernel panic error fixed, it works.

  • I keep getting an error message that my computer needs to be shut down.  It is like a dark screen comes down and I have to hold the on button until it shuts down.  Why is this happening?

I keep getting an error message that my cmputer needs to be shut down.  A dark screen comes down and it says to restart.  I have to hold the ON button until the computer shuts down.  Then I can restart and it says it is sending a report to Apple.  This seens to be happening a lot lately.  Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Carol...
error message that my computer needs to be shut down. It is like a dark screen comes down
That is referred to as a kernel panic.

  • Trying to boot from restore disc causes kernel panic error

Hi I am currently selling my MacBook Pro that is 6 months old. I wanted to pop in the restore disc today and format the drive and install Snow Leopard for the new owner. When I put in the  restore disc that came with the computer it begins the boot process(I can here it spinning up) but then I get a kernel panic error. I have tried testing the ram and putting in different ram but still get the same error every time. I haven't done anything to the hardware and have no issues with the dvd drive previously. I have confirmed this indeed the disc that was shipped with the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Erasing disks securely
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.

  • Kernel Panic error EVERY time I restart!

I have a Powerbook G4 and every time I start my machine I get the kernel panic error. I just got my computer back from Apple -- it was getting it's second logic board replacement! I have never gotten this error before now.
I have done the Hardware Test, disk utility, Applecare Techtool Deluxe --- it passes all the tests. I tried repairing from the install disk and even reinstalling the operating system, but it won't let me. The only thing that works temporarily is resetting thr PMU. If I do that before I start up the machine it works fine, but as soon as I shut down I get the same error message. I'm hoping that I don't have to take it back the Apple Store. I would greatly appreciate anyone input. I've already spent about 5 hours looking online and numerous sites with not much luck except the PMU reset. Below is one of the logs from the Kernel error.

    THANK YOU!

....But I ran the Hardware Test Disk and it scanned everything including the RAM and it was fine. Do you think it's something one of the Technicans at the Genius Bar could have done when they were replacing the logic board? Because I never got this error before that. Also, my battery won't charge right now either. I've only had this machine for 3 years and it's already needed 2 logic boards and they replaced the harddrive with the first logic board. It's not even used everyday!! This is turning into a very expensive paper weight. I love Macs but I will think twice before I ever get another one!!
The only reason I wanted to fix it myself is because the closest Apple Store is about an hour and a half away. And I don't want to send it in to Apple because my warranty has expired.

  • Kernal panic error - Etrecheck report inside

So I just tried upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion and got the dreaded kernal errors upon reboot. From reading these posts, it seems 3rd party software may be the problem.
I ran Etrecheck, but I can't decipher it enough to figure out where my problem lies.
Can someone walk me through the problem here, and how to rid it?

New log after deleting a bunch of programs and files. Still getting the kernal error. Going to wait until morning, and if I can't figure it out then, time for a clean wipe and install.

  • Panic errors

    Hi,
I have been experiencing recurring panic errors that require a hard reset for a few weeks now. I bought this iMac in October 2006 and had never experienced any problems with it until recently. It usually happens when I'm browsing the Web with Safari 3.0 but the one below happened when no application was open:
    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x00141505): zalloc: "kalloc.8192" (29973 elements) retry fail 3
Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack)

  • Ultra 45 panic error

    hi everybody.
I'm new on here and not really a ws expert!
I've bought a sun ultra45 and only had time to boot it for the first time after a month after the wararntee expired! :-(
after one week it gave a panic error. I rebooted using tip hardwire all went smooth but after 2 hours it collapsed again.
Sun suggests that i should replace the system board. The problem is that it costs 3000euros and I only paid 1000euros for the machine (university educational price).
Can anybody help? The log file seems to large to be attached! :-(
    attached the boot log.
    cheers

Yes, U20M2 machines are VERY picky about keyboards. I've been able to get other keyboards to work by unplugging/re-plugging them in at the error, then pressing F1. Very annoying to have to do that everytime the computer boots up, but that's all I've found that works...

  • Getting the Dreaded Panic error

Ok...i have a very bizarre situation. I have a 12inch PB and have received the panic error upon startup for over a year. I bought a firewire HD and installed to it a year ago and have been running off the external drive ever since. I decided to replace the internal drive. My problem gets very weird because I can still boot to the external drive fine holding down option at startup, but cannot boot to the OSX install disc. I have tried a couple different install discs but get the same panic error:
panic(cpu ) caller 0x002E54BC): Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook6,1".
I formatted the internal drive and am trying to install Tiger. But, when i hold down C at startup, it looks for the disc and then goes to the above panic. Since i can boot to the external HD installation, i dont think it is an airport or RAM issue. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Ruby

ok...so i took my firewire HD and cloned it to the new internal HD. Everything boots fine now, however when i try to boot from the OSX install disc, it gives me the panic error. Whenever i try to boot to any disc, it gives me the same panic error. When i take out the disc and restart the computer, it boots to the newly cloned internal drive. There must be something wrong with the logic board that it is giving me the panic error. Anyone know what to do at this point?

Thank you all for your help

    typed the panic error code,
looks like all is pinting to a hard drive failure. just curious why it does not specify anything about hard drive errors prior or when getting to gray screen. is seems a silly question but is there a work arround this? because the back up copy i had on the USB got deleted i do not know how during the process.
do i need a new hard drive? if yes do i need to get a recovery DVD with it or the internet connection should resolve the problem.

If you can't start up and log in in the usual way, try in safe mode.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Log in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. If you have only one account, you are the administrator.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode.
If you're able to log in, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
