"panic message" with ACPI, (panic(cpu 0 caller 0x003A8DBD))
hi:
As "aimili", in this forum topic:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6955755
I have the same big problem (sorry, my english is...).
Like he or she: "I just tried to install the latest updates into my Macbook, and without warnings it just shut down and tried to restart by itself"
I'll "copypaste" my text from that topic - a nice user, BDAqua, has suggested me do that:
" I have a macbook and it happens the same: aimili's "panic message" with the ACPI, (panic(cpu 0 caller 0x003A8DBD)).
Besides, my CD-Unit don't works (it crashed some months ago, so I can't use my "Install Disc"). This is a very disgusting situation. Please, help. There is no other OS installed in the computer. I can't do anything. Really.
Please, I need more information about how to re-start/reset/etc. the computer without the cd's.
thanks a lot

Get a Firewire hard drive at least as big as your internal drive from http://www.macsales.com/ and if you can't boot the machine in Target Disk Mode and don't have another machine, Prosoft Data Rescue and Subrosasoft Filesalvage. If you do have another machine and can't boot the Mac normally, try Target Disk Mode described here to recover information:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Copy data over to the external hard drive drive with a backup software such as Shirt Pocket Superduper if it can see the damaged Mac.
If the machine is not visible in Target Disk Mode, then use Subrosasoft Filesalvage or Prosoft Data Rescue to recover to the external hard drive. You can do this even if you don't have another Mac to Target Disk Mode copy as both these utilities are bootable from CD. If neither of these utilities boot the Mac by using the Startup Manager:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
And you don't have another Mac, take it in to repair the hardware.
You may also want to use the original discs to see if there is a hardware issue:

I installed the 829mb Apple software update on my 2011 Macbook Pro. Upon restart, it crashed. It instructed me to hold power button to shut off and then press again to restart. Same error message keeps coming up and computer won't boot to home screen.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
ROBBBoot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective. -

Hello jayparks41
There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

If you can't do that either, then you will probably need to reinstall 10.6. -
Panic(cpu 1 caller...) message when upgrading to OS X maverick
Upgraded today and now before the new version could be set, I receive a "panic (CPU 1 caller 0xfffff8000541bf): " process 1 exec of /sbin/launchdnfailed, error 2"@sourceCAche/xnu/xnu-1699.32.7/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:3546

When I restart using the power button, the same message pops us.
Please help. Urgently.could this thread from Mountain Lion installation failures solve the problem?

I have resolved the issue. Here is what I did to resolve the issue.
Cleaned up the PGP removal by following the steps from Symantecs sitehttp://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH149057
Removed the OS X Install Data Folder (not sure if that was the exact name) from the root of my HD. I noticed it was sitting there and is not normally there. (I think this was the fix)
I also redownloaded ML install from app store just in case.
Ran fresh download and install went according to plan and I am typing this from ML now
Good Luck anyone else with the same issue. -
Hopefully someone can help. My Macbook Pro came up with this error when starting up and I can't get rid of it. Have tried starting up in safe mode using the Shift key however that doesnt do anything. I get the same message. I don't appear to have the original start up disk that comes with the laptop, although this was purchased new under 12 months ago.
Is anyone able to provide any solutions for me? Please excuse me but my technical knowledge for Macs isn't too flash so detailed info would be hugely appreciated. Thanks apad. The entire report is:-

Hello,
I use the forum all the time to find solutions to problems, and my Mac was slow so I went to this discussion: "kernel_task high memory usage" and I thought I had to delete my kernel extensions based on what several users said worked for them. In retrospect it says to delete them for printers, but I accidentally and ignorantly deleted them all.
I restarted my computer and what I get is a quick start to the gray screen and the the apple logo. On the gray screen I get a bunch of white text in black backgrounds. It says:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800a2c3221): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI".\n"@SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.110.17/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 533
Debugger called <panic>
Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Address
and then it has numbers and letters and a : and more numbers and letters
it says aslo "can't perform kext scan: no kext summary
BDS process name corresponding to current thread: unknown
Mac OS version:
Not yet set
Kernel version:"
and it has all the version and other information. I don't know if you need it to solve the problem. I can type it up if it's necessary.
I tried holding the shift button to start in safe mode but that doesn't help. How can I backup my data to an external hard drive? Some important data is not currently backed up and I don't have a time machine. I just made several copies of data that's important. How can I make sure I don't lose anything in the process of fixing my computer?
The computer is MacBook Pro And I think I had Mavericks installed on it.
what do I need to do to backup my data and to fix the computer? Do I need to reinstall the OS? If so, how can I do that? I didn't have an original cd or DVD that came with the computer. And I upgraded my os through a download.
I Know I did a stupid thing, and it would mean the world if someone can help me resolve this. Thank you so so much.VitoK1,
I’m glad to learn that you’re able to use your MacBook Pro again. To back up your files (as a bit of insurance against future disk problems, so that a disk problem won’t wipe out all of your personal files), you can use the Time Machine app, which is different from the Time Capsule hardware. The Time Machine app can be used with an external disk of your choice; it’s not limited to being used with Time Capsules. As backup software goes, it’s pretty painless. This Apple page has information on how to set up an external disk to be a Time Machine backup destination, and on what needs to be done to set up regular backups of your Mac to that external disk. -
I have this shutdown of my iMac almost every night. It seems to happening all of a sudden. Any help would be appreciated.
I have checked the HD - it is okay. I have checked permissions & they seem to be okay.
Here is the message I get when I use the power button to restart the computer

ENDIn your case, I would simply do a #8 Reinstall OS X, that will wipe out all third party at boot kernel extension files and give you a nice clean new OS X free of corruption. This way it also clear ones your not using anymore.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then I would see if the machine ran fine like that (minus some programs of course without their kernel extensions) with no KP's, if there are some more then it's one of the other programs your using currentl and reintall those.
If everything is fine, check for updates for those programs with at boot kernel extensions and install them one at a time carefully and seee when your problem returns.
Also run further through the Steps to eliminate any other issues. -

Thank you for the feedback, I am already in the process of doing those steps before I wrote this question. The reason I am posting this is because I would really like to see if others have experienced problems with this. I want to be prepared with information when I have my appointment with the genius bar (this is my production mac and I need to finish up a project before I can get some known issues fixed).
By knowing if others have seen issues with cpu 2 this will help me in understanding the problem and know if I'm getting the correct information from the genius bar. IE I don't want to be back at the bar with my HEAVY mac pro trying to troubleshoot this over a long period of time if someone here has seen a similar message and I can shortcut what might be a long and tedious process of fixing this.
AGAIN, thank you for the feedback but I am doing those steps. -
Panic; panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a6ac2): Kernel trap at 0x0028d3e6
Hello togehter, my old macbook had fallen down from 4m height. I gave it for repairing to a certified apple reseller and they said that just the hard-Disk was gone. After 3 months I had a similair problem like here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/19543117#19543117) and it is starting only now and then...
I gave it two times for repairing, but they just changed the hard disk. I am afraid that there is even damage of the logic board and the graphics...
If anybody could help me I would be very glad...

ok I uninstalled Parallels and did all software updates till 10.6.8. I also did Apple Hardware Test, it said that everything is ok. Till now I didn't have any kernel panics any more but I have to say that I didn't work with that macbook for over a year now... hope that is working now again without any problems.
Do you think that it is possible to install Maveriks on it? Does it make sense in case to prevent further kernel errors? -
I keep getting Kernal Panics and the Panic itself is always the same:

Does anyone have an idea what this means and what I might do to find the cause? This just started yesterday and occurs on an average of once every 20 to 30 minutes, even when the computer is idle during that time.
Message was edited by: transcoI think I found the source of my problem. I went backwards through the installation / service log, removing hardware from the VM's device list as I went. It stopped crashing when I removed a Roland SC-D70. I then put everything else back the way it was and still no crashes. Finally I installed and assigned new hardware to replace the SC-D70 in the VM and so far so good.
