Panic near central park

AAARGH! Today is the Leopard release, and I happily ordered it by mail, so I won't have to wait in the line at the 5th Ave Apple STORE, (I work around the corner) near Central Park.
It will be crazy there today!
Here is my nightmare dilemna:
MY system CRASHED! I was trying to copy my drive and OSX kept wanting to put it in a folder called Volume/Porsche, instead of Porsche, (the name of my external hard drive).
I thought if I changed the permissions on my main drive,it might prevent this, so I started to do this, but nothing was happening, and I couldn't stop it. So I shut down, because I realized it probably wouldn't solve the issue. Then it crashed.
Now I have a blue screen that turns to black and is in Darwin. It wants me to log-in. So I log-in, but then when I try to type my password, it's not live, it won't accept the characters. And when I hit enter, it just says "incorrect log-in", and turns blue, spins the wheel thing, then goes starts this all over again, asking me to log-in! This is what I've been dealing with for four hours
WHAT A DAY TO CRASH!! Can anyone help? I've tried PRAM, NVRAM, shift, holding down C, ,or shift, NOTHING is working. I need a solution. Why can't I override Darwin? Oh, and by the way, my start-up disc is stuck inside the iMac, It won't even openl. Isn't there a way to get the disc ot? I will try to use Target mode via firewire with my partner's Power Mac G5, later. I hope it works, or that someone can help!

Perhaps that is a screen fail. Could you please tell me if Apple have spare screen? Can I get a screen, perhaps with some program to assit to customer from Apple?

Kernel Panic Log Explanation

I recently had scare when a Kernel Panic nearly turned my MBP into a paperweight.

I have not installed any RAM, I haven't installed any new programs or peripherals, no new drivers, no other external devices. It may be a possibility that the heat got to the RAM, because my MBP has always run hot.
Just wondering if anyone can explain this panic log so I can avoid a problem in the future.

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices. Do you experience the same problems?

I have a brand-new 2014 MacBook Pro, running Mavericks, and am getting a Kernel Panic nearly every time I connect or disconnect any type of external display.

Remove "Snagit" or "Camtasia" and see whether there's an improvement. If not, the unit is defective.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Is 'geotagging' used for anything?

am I missing some functionality on my iphone? i grasp the geotag function, and unlike some my phone does seem to record the info in the exif or metadata (whichever it is)
my question is, is it put to any use? if i download the pics to iphoto (which i never use) and fish around i can find a set of co-ordinates... that's it? no map, no city, street or country info?
i assumed i'd be able to bring this info up on the phone itself. maybe pinpoint it on google maps, save the location or... do something!
or am i missing it, is there some functionality built into the phone that i've overlooked?
of all the features on the iphone, the camera seems the most half-baked. from what i've gathered, cameraphones, be they still or video; MMS and the like isn't something thats cared for in the states, but it's a huge deal here in the uk. and one apple should address. i use nearly every other feature on the phone, but the camera is next to useless; it's the only thing i miss on my old nokia.

if you upload those pictures to some sort of online albume (web picasa, for example), and those picutres are geotagged, it will show on the map where those pictures were taken. additionally, say you took a picture of central park, ny; if someone searched "central park" in google or google maps, it may use your picture to show the searcher what a shot of central park may look like.

LTE no longer showing up in my area

The area in question is the Spotyslvania Courthouse area (zips 22407 & 22553).
The last few days, LTE service has dropped and the phone fluctuates between 1X and 3G. I have friends with iPhones, a Samsung Note 2 and other Android devices having the same issue. I have the HTC One M9. The internet service is very unreliable for all of us in this area. However if we go towards the Central Park shopping center, everything is just fine. So it must be a location problem. And yes, this area has 4G coverage, it's been strong since the day it was turned on a few years back. This is the first time this issue has turned up.
Are you guys aware of this problem?

Well we are back on this issue again. Can someone at VZW check if there is tower maintenance going on in my area (22407/22553)? This is the only area where I'm having problems. Unfortunately this happens to be where I live :/
It is not my phone, others in the area have the same issue. I've had 0 problems with data connectivity for 4 years until last week. I'm tired of seeing 1X and 3G just flipping around on my phone. This morning I did not even have data for an hour. And when 4G does show up, it lasts for maybe 10-20 seconds.

Very Poor Coverage at Santa Clara Convention Center

Last month I was at the Santa Clara Convention Center for a technical conference. Attendees here are constantly borrowing ATT phones to make calls when inside conference rooms or on the Convention Center Exhibit Floor. The signal here is very weak 1x. Data is virtually nonexistent. The lack of coverage here in this venue is really inexcusable. Even T-Mobile is providing better coverage. It is really a sad state of affairs when folks are asking their coworkers if they have a non-Verizon phone that they can borrow to make a call. The coverage problem extends to all areas of the Convention Center and the adjoining Hilton Hotel.
ATT is providing full signal strength on the convention center floor and in all conference rooms and Tmob works fairly well. Verizon is supposed to be coverage king especially in venues such as convention centers and other very populated metro areas.
I attend several conventions in Santa Clara per year and have spoken directly to the General Manager of the Santa Clear Convention Center. He informed me that he has had hundreds of complaints from vendors on the convention center floor. He contacted Verizon and was informed that the lapse in coverage was caused by the construction of the new Levis Stadium for the San Francisco 49ers that is adjacent to the Convention Center. The new Levis Stadium blocks that signal from the Verizon Cell Site. It seems to me that since this is such a high visibility venue, Verizon should permanently deploy a Cell on Wheels until the original cell site can be moved.
It doesn't make sense to me that Verizon is spending millions of dollars per year on television commercials while nothing has been done to improve the several coverage problem at this internationally renowned convention center. Can Verizon deploy a permanent Cell on Wheels to the Santa Clara Convention Center until the problem is resolved?

I just completed a 3-day road trip throughout NYC Mon-Wed of this week, primarily on the West Side (85th down to 34th, Central Park West, Broadway, etc) and a little on the East Side (1st) and can confirm what you are seeing. I tried to open up a ticket with VZW on the problems since I had collected very specific location, signal, performance and experience data (and wasted 2GB of data and hours of my time troubleshooting), but they would not open any tower tickets for me since I left NYC to go home and was not in NYC long enough for them to be willing to open up a ticket for me. I suggest you call VZW back and ensure they text you the tower ticket #, also ask them to link your case information to their internal device forum "iphone 5 loses 4g lte" and text you confirmation of this too.
You can find my NYC test results at the link below to see if your experience matches mine. Whenever possible, I compared my VZW iPhone 5 experience to my AT&T Galaxy S III at the same locations and included those results as well.

Unable to insert more than 9 rows at a time

Hi there,
I have to insert more than 5000 rows in my table at a time,but i am not able to insert more than 10 ROWS AT ATIME.
Do we need to do some that at the data base level for this to happen??????

Rather than give us unhelpful comments like "still its not taking", why don't you show us exactly what you're doing? We can't help you if you don't give us enough information.

Windows 7 Pro install: Expanding files step stuck at 0%

Problem:
Anyways I'm currently trying to install Windows 7 professional 64-bit on my late 2011 Macbook Pro 13" through Boot Camp. Now everything goes fine up until the actual installation process (after partitioning and reformatting the hard drive) where the step called "Expanding windows files" sits at 0% and simply refuses to budge.
What I have done up until this point:
Downloaded Windows 7 pro and burned the ISO file onto a DVD-R using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. After this, I just ran through the usual steps of opening Boot Camp Assistant, clicking install Windows, and partitioning.
Why I'm about to strangle someone:
I called Apple Care and they told me that since this is a problem that deals with the actual installation of Windows, it is no longer their problem to solve due to it being past the point of being a Mac problem and told me to call Microsoft. So I dutifully called Microsoft in search of a solution. After spending a good part of a day putting up with incompetent support lines, they basically told me "we can't help you because you're using a Mac platform so screw you, call Apple." When I said that Apple could not deal with this problem because it is not a mac problem, they treated me as though I was some kind of idiotic moron and insisted that I either call Apple or go to a local Apple technician (with poorly disguised attitude no less! oh, the frustrationnnn).
Seeing no end to this vicious cycle, I decided take one last leap of faith in the long-standing reputatation of Apple's customer service and made an appointment to go consult the Genius Bar. Surely these extensively trained experts of all people would be able to help me! Two hours worth of standing on a subway train later, I arrived at the towering Apple store on 5th Avenue and walked in with high hopes. When finally called up to an Apple "genius," I informed them of my problem and they told me right off the bat "sorry, we're not certified to help you with Windows problems, call Microsoft." I went to take a walk around Central Park shortly afterwards and threw a random unsuspecting kid into the lake, felt a little better after that (kidding of course... -cough-)
Can someone for the love of all that is pancakes please help me? T_T

burn it again, at very slowest speed possible and have it verified. And that your internal DVD drive is fine and the media you used to burn with.
Actually, I think support ends AFTER install as you still are using BCA to begin the install, and Apple has to supply hardware support drivers and such.
After all, just look at what their FAQ for Boot Camp 4 has to say:

"Windows on Mac" aka "Boot Camp" is.... not fully supported anyway it seems to be (drivers, install, ease of use etc) based on the questions and problems and how well it works (including thermal fan control and cooling, wireless, BT, battery life etc) so I give it "90-95%" at best. Less than perfect for sure.
A lot of problems with ISO step are just that most burn using Disk Utility which never worked - even if it installed or seemed to it would fail UNLESS the burn speed was slowed down. Boot Camp Asst 4.01 and later may handle ISO better.
VMs are a breeze but obviously you are not running natively or a full Windows OS, just guest.

San Francisco - LTE Network Outage

Once again LTE is either non existent or not even working in my location in San Francisco. I live near GG park 94117 (Cole / Page/ Waller/ Haight area and all day (sat. sept 28th), I've haven't been receiving any data and keep receiving "Network Communication issues". The 4G network in SF has been suffering for months. There's been multiple posts about this issue. I've performed multiple speed tests using 2 different devices in different parts of the city and get the same results. Can't even call support from the phone since the web-app pop ups when calling a verizon number and freezes since there's no data connection. Terrible. Why am I paying a premium for Verizon?

ITunes sort 'Album by artist/year' problems

I've been having problems sorting _some_ albums. I'll give you a specific example:
I rip Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Concert in Central Park' which has 19 tracks. I want them to play in continuous mode, and in order.
I show track number in the columns, make sure all the tracks are of the same album and artist and I don't specify and sort options.
Now I click on the column header 'Album by Artist/Year' and I see that track 16 is first followed by 18, 19 then 1,2,3, etc.
I'm not sure why 16,18 and 19 are out of order, but they are and I don't know what other field it is using to apply this sort order since I've turned off the sort fields. I should say that I think the sort fields are turned off since I selected all tracks, hit command-I and made sure that the artist and album are the same, then went over to the sorting tab and selected each checkbox and made sure that the field was blank. Clicked on OK, then went into each track one at a time and verified that the general info and sort info were as I specified.
If I change the sort column to be just 'Album' then it sorts correctly - I think that the year is messed up, so I add the year column to the display and see that it is 1982. I click on the year and the sort is just fine. I set it back to 'Album by Artist/Year' and the same bizzare sort shows up. The same mis-sort shows with 'Album by Artist' so I do a check on the artist name (even looking for leading or trailing spaces - nothing).
I could probably delete the album and re-rip it, but I would rather find out why the sort is messed up so I can correct this problem if/when it shows up again. I'm aware that I have a few other albums with similar problems.

Reply to my own question.
In the sidebar a similar question was asked (if I could learn how to post the right question in the first place I probably would have found it).
I reset the disc number then the tracks showed up in the correct sort order. I'm pretty sure that the tracks had disc number 1 of 1 before, now they just have _ of _ (blank of blank).

What's with 4G LTE lately?

Lately I am having problem with my very poor reception at work. This isn't an issue before when I switched to Verizon.

I live in SF and my speeds have been horrendous. I was getting less than 500kbps down and 10 Kbps up last night near GG park. Below is what I was getting earlier at my office in downtown SF. I'm getting a great signal, too but very high latency and snail speeds.

Nokia unable to provide clarity & support on E71

I've been using a Nokia E71. One fine day the phone switched off & it didn't start. As good Nokia customer I only trusted Nokia care outlets ( Nokia Care - Satya Telecare, 229 Chittaranjan Avenue, Near Girish Park Metro Station, Kolkata - 700006). After rectifying the problem, they told me that the phone had another problem of battery warming. After two days they again informed me that the handset have a network detecting problem. Its been 12 days now they have not been able to rectify the problem, also they are unable to tell me as to when the problem can get rectified. Even more, they dont communicate. When I visit the Nokia care outlet, I am made to wait for more than an hour each time. ( 1st time I waited for more than 3 hours). Today they are saying they will let me know when the phone gets repaired. This is ridiculuous & frustrating....
Nokia Products are good & its services are equally bad. Going towards worse.

You won't typically get support directly from Nokia on these forums, but as a fellow user, I can say what I would do. I assume your phone is long out of warranty? Visit the shop, demand your phone now, and pay them for whatever work they did. Then find an independent repair shop, preferably somebody who has been in business a long time. Maybe some old guy? There aren't many parts to a mobile phone: the circuit board, keyboard, screen, camera, battery, volume buttons, case, etc. I doubt the Nokia shop (or perhaps anybody) has the skill or time to try soldering a bad circuit board on a modern mobile phone. They will probably just replace whatever part has gone bad with a new or used part, and re-flash the firmware. I think an independent shop offers the chance of being more skilled (and possibly more honest ?) than a slick, corporate shop. Just my two cents. Good luck!

2.1 software Are you as excited as I am!

Can't wait its suppose to be released today. I'm hoping it solves most of our troubles and gets Apple back on track. I mean truely the iphone is an awesome piece of hardware i just want to use the 3G again lol since its been disabled because of 2.02!

I'm no network engineer, so we'll have to see what the engineers at Apple and AT&T come up with. I really wish I had another 3G device that works effectively in the same situations that the iPhone doesn't work so well. The only comparisons I've been able to make are with a friends HTC Tilt and it works as about as well as my iPhone (which is pretty well).
Though today, I was at a Red Sox game at Fenway and saw some of the behavior that people have complained about 2.0.2 the switching to Edge in a strong 3G area. This was the first game/super density area I have been to with my 3G. I live in near Fenway park and know that at least outdoors the 3G signal is strong. However today at the game, my phone was dropping to Edge. I think if the earlier speculation of the phone demanding too much 3G power and making too quick a decision to switch towers is accurate then Apple should be able to fix that. That would result in fewer handoffs (and fewer dropped calls) and better battery life. My phone's battery also drained faster than it ever has before - it went from 50% to 20% in about 4 hours (with maybe .5 hours of active use). I usually get about 1.25 days of standby and 5 hours of use for a full charge. If the rumored power issues are the root cause of the problem then I can see how 2.1 can fix it.
What I don't expect is 2.1 to fix is slow data connections in high density areas. That's network bottleneck that I believe AT&T has already started working on. Nor do I expect 2.1 to produce stronger dbm signal strength. I believe the tests that show the iPhone antennae to be competitive. It's not the signal, but how the phone deals with that signal. I think plenty of people who have problems now are going to continue to have problems as the fix won't address the inadequacies in coverage.
