Panning and Scanning around type (or any object I guess)

Hopefully this is a simple one for the Motion Experts out there...
If you have a block of text (let's say 2D letters on a black background), and you want to pan and scan the text, maybe starting close up on one line of the text, scanning thru some or all of the text, and then ultimately pull back revealing the entire block neatly positioned in the center of your canvas, what's the best approach to take?
Would you use a camera even though you want the text to remain 2D?
Do you work back to front in terms of the position and size of the text, by starting with the text where you want it to end up and then setting up moves ahead of that position in the time line?
I've gotten close to what I want using keyframes, but it's just not as cool as what I've seen on some TV commercials I've seen.
Any hints on the best approach?
Thanks!

Using a camera is the easiest approach. The text will remain 2D no matter what you do because Motion does not do 3D text without a plugin.
I would start by putting all your text how you want it to end up, and then zoom the camera in to begin your animation.
The camera you can animate with either keyframes or behaviors, whichever with you feel more comfortable.

  • Ctrl K causing my pan and scan to jump

Whenever i try to use pan and scan on an image (in FCP) i set my keyframes at two points, manipulate the image etc. I render it, play it back and all the movement is smooth except when it reaches the last keyframe and the image suddenly drops a fraction, just a few pixels. The only way round it is for me to cut that last frame off but i would like to leave the image static on the screen sometimes. Anyone come across this before...any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    There wasn't an additional keyframe.
It seems to be something to do with rendering. Just had a play around with a picture and when i initially insert the second keyframe, make the change and play it unrendered it works fine. But when i play it after the FIRST time i render it, i get the bump on the keyframe. But if i cause the image to require re-rendering (dim the picture a bit) and render again it plays fine....strange.

  • Possible to pan and scan HD video with your home editing software?? (HD - SD size)

Hi, using Premiere Elements 7 on WinXp and also on Win 7.
I wonder if it's possible for us to do a pan and scan type process with our HD video? I ask because someone gave me some footage from the weekend where the composition was way too wide and large and I'd like to save the video, composed better, an SD quality.
Given the pixel resolution it should be possible. I know that's how they convert 35mm film to fit TV, but when it comes to video, can Premiere do it?
I can crop video in premiere but it will save the video at the same resolution, but all pixelized and looking wonky. How would I save 1080i video pan and scanned to 720 (p) or regular SD (640) which will still look decent on Youtube.
Here is an example (note, I also squeezed the footage to 97% horizontally first)
    Can anyone give a tutorial?
    Thanks

If it's hi-def video, you can import the video into a project set up for standard DV.
Before you use Get Media to get the video, go to Edit/Preferences and uncheck Scale to Frame Size.
When you place your video on the timeline, it will be much larger than the Monitor, and you will only see a portion of it. You should be able to use Crop and Scale to get just what you need and still have many pixels to spare. (And don't forget to press Enter to render the video before you judge its quality.)
Note that, depending on what format of video your original footage is in, you may need to work with the interlacing maybe reverse the field dominance. So I'd do a short test run and output to see how it looks before I committed to a full-length project.

  • 16x9 to 4x3 Pan and Scan

I have DVCPRO HD 1080p24 timeline at 23.98. The movie is 2:35, widescreen. I need to Pan and Scan it to a 4x3 image while still preserving the HD quality. My distributor wants a 4x3 full frame tape.
    How do I do this?
I realize I have to cut parts of my image off but I don't see any 4x3 guide in FCP to be able to see the lines. The title safe is not accurate 4x3. There is not 4x3 filter. What do I do?

Verbatim from the reputable distributor: "HD 4X3 Full Frame: one (1) individually manufactured (conversion not accepted) 4x3 (1.33) HD videotape fully panned and scanned as necessary to bring the action into the "TV safe" area from film-to-tape transfers, utilizing the timed wetgate 35mm IP (struck from the finished original picture negative) and the appropriate stereo composite track on channels 1 & 2 and stereo M&E on channels 3&4.
You guys are saying I can't put a 4x3 image at HD quality on an HD came tape? Why can't I preserve the quality and just adjust the framing with pan and scanning?
    Please explain.

  • How to Pan and Scan and keep a mask stationary?

I am trying to pan and scan a clip that has mask.  But I do not want the mask to follow the pan and scan.  Can this be done?
    I am using CS5 on Win7

Thanks.  So I just need to create a solid, punch my hole in it using the mask, disable the solid visibility, then use it as a track matt for my layer that I was trying to mask.  This should work perfectly.
But why does a mask change positions and size when I change the layer's position and scale in the first place?  If you change the track opacity, the mask opacity does not change.  Does the mask also follow a parented layer's scale, etc?   I have probably taken advantage of this "feature" in the past w/o thinking about it.  But now it sounds counter-intuitive to me.  It would be nice if there was an option for the mask size, position etc. to follow the layer's properties or not.

  • How to do pan and scan on single clips?

I have a timeline with multiple clips. I'm trying to do some pan and scan to single clips, pan and scan will be different on each of these clips. I tried to put a new "pan and scan" track, but it covers the complete timeline and I can't reduce it to the duration "covering" a single clip (as you can do with grading track). Is there a quick way to apply pan and scan to individual clips? I came from Apple Color where pan&scan was an individual tab in each clip, so it was really easy to do it and save it inside the look.

I tried to do as you suggested, timeline become cluttered with a lot of keyframes, and I need to put 4 keyframes to each pan, to retain the basic 1.0 scale, otherwise the last keyframe value is applied to everything else.
I hope Adobe will change this with a more intuitive per-clip pan&scan, always worked on a per-clip basis that in other grading apps and always found it fast and simple.

IOS7 on iPad mini and now keyboard locks up and won't type. Any help here?

thanks for the reply, brian, but unfortunately that is what i meant by the hard reboot.  i've done that many, many times and it's still stuck.  nothing is helping and i can't even get it to sync to iTunes to restore it.
    thanks anyway!

  • PRE10 - Pan and Scan Default New Frame Size

Is there a way to change the Default New Frame size for a project? I have about 4 or 5 frames per page all of which need to be enlarged and my project has a total of 90 pages. So a lot of extra time is spent resizing frames. I can set the default pan and scan times under settings but I have not found a way to start off with the correct size frame.
    Thanks,
    Joe..

Just wanted to thank you guys again. This all worked out perfectly. I had 92 photos which previously took me three days to put together and I did not like the results. Tonight it took me two hours and it came out ok (IMHO).
Resized all photos to 1000x751 (200dpi, 1.0 pixel size). They were 2832x2128 with 1.0 pixels
Created a new project with a default DV NTSC Standard format
    Imported them into the project
Placed the first photo\scene in the timeline
I set 5 pan\scan keyframes. One overall and then 4 quarter frame size
Adjusted the lenth of the scene and pan and scan durations and saved it
Added the other 90 photos to the timeline
Copied the completed scene and then pasted the attributes to all the other photos except a few I didn't want to pan\scan
I selected the clips that had the attributes pasted to them and used the TIme Stretch to set the duration the same as the first pan\scan clip
Dragged and dropped a different transition in between each
Added titles to the beginning and end
Added sountrack music to the entire video
Shared\Exported out to MPEG with NTSC Standard 4:3 format
It took about 10 minutes to render instead of a couple hours
Is it great, to me, no. I need to work on a few things and perhaps even reshoot the pages of the album to get better originals (or take them somewhere and scanned on a larger scanner then I have to accomodate them). My wife loved it and on average I think it looks pretty good. But the process works and the time savings are incredible so the next one will be that much better.
So thanks again. I have lots more to learn but at least progress is being made.

  • Pan and scan

I want to do something that should seemingly be easy, but I'm a bit stumped.
I want to do a simple picture in picture--
I reduced the scale of a clip to 50% so it now sits @ 50% in the center of the canvas.
This is where I need help:
I'd like to pan and scan the clip within it's new borders without moving the clip itself (it should stay stationary on the canvas).
I would of thought that I could nest the clip and adjust the setting in the nest -- but it moves the whole thing!
    Thanks
    Steven

I am horrible at explaining things!!!
    Let me try again:
    I have a 1920x1080 clip in a 1920x1080 sequence
In my clip, there are 3 people. One is on the left side of the clip, one in the center, one in the right.
(basically 3 people standing next to each other)
I cropped the clip -- so now only the center person in visible.
The left and right person is cropped (the black canvas is visible behind them).
For this discussion, let's call the remaining portion of the clip the "Crop Box". To be clear, the "crop box" at this point only contains the center person.
Now, I want to "scan" across my image. So, 1) first want to see left person, 2) then the center person, and 3) finally the right person. IMPORTANT NOTE: The "crop box" should not move. It should remain stationary in the middle of the canvas.
I simply want to "scan" the clip across the "crop box"
    Thanks

  • Pan and Scan and zoom

The pan, scan and zoom on a still photo seems to be much smoother on the cheaper application 'Photo to Movie' than it is with FCE. Is it thus better to do those movements on a still on PtoM and then import them into FCE ?
I am working with FCE 2.
    Anyone any ideas?

Sure, why not. Use whatever tools work well for you.
I had a quick look at the Photo to Movie site and one thing to be aware of is that of you export in the DV Stream format it might require rendering in FCE. I don't know how much control on export you have with Photo to Movie, you'll have to let us know what the options are.
Anyway this isn't a big issue and can be worked around if need be.

  • Tables and Views are not displaying any objects.

I have tried both Filtered and non-filtered for tables and view but it won't list any tables or view.
I can run a query and it shows all the tables/views in the query window.
    SELECT table_name  FROM dba_tables
    select view_name from all_views

    Who owns the objects?
The browser only shows objects owned by the current logged in user in the main section.  You need to go into the Other Users node to find objects owner by other users.

  • Pan and scanning 4:3 footage which has a 16:9 letter box on it.

    Dear FCP users,
I'm cutting some DVD extras and have some 4:3 footage which has a 16:9 letter box on it. How to I go about zooming into the image to make it full screen 16:9? I appreciated there will be a loss of quality. Also, is there a way to batch process a number of clips?
    Any help very much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Damon

You drop it into the timeline, then double click on it to load it into the Viewer. Click on the MOTION tab and adjust the SCALE. And then you can adjust the CENTER, either by typing numbers, or clicking on the "+" and manually moving it.
Also, is there a way to batch process a number of clips?
Click on the clip...hit CMD-C to copy it. Then click on all the other clips you want to effect and hit OPT-V to PASTE ATTRIBUTES...check the BASIC MOTION box.

  • Pan and scan HVX200

I would like to know how much I can zoom in on HVX200 footage (on the motion tab) before getting a soft focus feel to it?
Im only going in 25% but IM wondering if there is a way to calculate these things?
    Thanks in advance.

Just use your eyes. And a broadcast monitor. Anything over 100% will start softening. As to when it becomes perceptible, it really depends on the nature of the footage, resolution, chroma subsampling, interlacing, lens, lighting, hard v. soft edges in scene, tones, etc., etc...

  • Posting Keys and Doc. Type

    Hi experts.
I have created a new process in SD and when I post the account document the customer account has a credit, but should be debit.
I realized that there is in FI Posting Keys and Doc. Type, both FI objects and Document Type is used in Billing Type configuration.
But I don´t know where I link document type with Posting Keys, and I don´t know if this link exists.
If the link doesn´t exist, How Can I configure if the process will be a credit or a debit ?
Thanks a lot for any help.
    Renato

Hello, like document types, posting keys are defined at client level. For the Enjoy document entry functions you can check Incoming Invoices/Credit Memos - Enjoy --> Define Posting Key for Incoming Invoices/Credit Memos. Then check the G/L item in incoming invoice if  :
    Debit                40
    Credit               50
    Hope it helps
    Kind regards

  • Easy way to do smooth motion pan and zoom on a video clip?

    Howdy..
As a recent convert from Vegas and Premiere Pro, I'm very happy with FCP6, with 1 issue: Easy moves on video clips.
It's very easy to setup a move with the motion filter, but the problem is that zooming with moving on the clip with 'ease-in' is problematic.
The scaling and motion seem to accelerate at different rates, making it very tough to achieve a smooth pan and zoom at the same time (either one by itself is easy).
I've tried using anchor points, but that's difficult when doing several moves on a clip.
Basically, is there ANY way (either native or via a plug-in) to set up simple pan+zooms on a video clip, with smoothness turned on without having the 'slingshot' effect that you get? I know I can mess around with the acceleration points, but this is tough to do with 100 of clips that need adjusting.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer..
    Thanks...
    Best,
    Ben

    Howdy...
Usually I set easy-in/out on the canvas window (for center) and then 'smooth' on the keyframes (for scale) in the motion window.
Can you actually set smoothing for center in the viewer? I think you can only set easy-in/out for center in the canvas. (could be wrong on this one).
I wish it worked like in Motion. Much easier and more intuitive, but one shouldn't have to jump to a different app just to do a simple pan and zoom...
    Any other ideas?
