Panning Audio

There's probably a really simple answer to this question, but I can't seem to figure it out. I want to pan my audio gradually from the left to the right. How do I do this? I can only figure out how to permanently put it to the right channel or left, and not gradually one to the other...

Open the audio into the viewer. There are two horizontal lines that move with the sliders at the top of the viewer. One line controls the audio level, the other the pan value. You can keyframe the pan line with the Option key or the pen tool.

  • Export h264 does not have Panned Audio/Share Youtube h264 does..why?

I export share h264 and the audio is stereo and not center panned...even though it is panned on the project with dual mono and center VU meters runs up and down..when i use the share send to youtube and grab the h264 made for this...that has panned audio.
Is it the dual mono?...when i have both ch.s selected in the inspector that seem to "phase" each other out.
any ideas on doing waht was simple in fcp 7..pan all audio center....the keyboard short cut WAS control + .

the share options in FCPX are actually just canned presets that have little or no flexibility in modifying parameters. What's happening is that while your audio channels might be dual mono with center panning, the preset exports (remixes) it as stereo. I'm assuming it equally spreads the audio across both channels, and adjusts the levels appropriately.
Are you looking to export the audio as a single mono channel? I think you will need to use Compressor to set up your own preset that you can then publish to FCPX. Either that, or export (share) the project as quicktime file, and then use a different piece of software to encode to what you want (e.g., Quicktime Pro or MPEG Streamclip).

  • How can I adjust right and left pan audio setting on iPad mini?

Hi, I'd like to know if there is a way to set the each left and right volume of speakers by a "Pan" control on the iPad mini.
    Thanks in advance

Do a long click on the mono-stereo button of the audio track. From the flipmenu, choose L.
Copy the Region to another track.
From that other track's mono-stereo button flipmenu, choose R.
Voila, direct access to left and right channels.

  • How to pan audio – precisely?

I have a subsequence, where I want an audio track to pan from left to right, say from -70 to +70. I can do this by selecting track key frames, show pan key frames. Using the audio mixer I can set the panning to -70. I then set a key frame at the start of the clip and move CTI to the end of the clip. Now I cannot use the audio mixer to set the end value to +70. I can change the value, but it is ignored without change (it reverts as soon as I move CTI), allegedly because the key frames indicate that automation has been added to the track. It seems that the only way is to move the key frame with the mouse and try to get as close to +70 as possible.
What have I overlooked? Clearly, there must be a way to do this? For volume, the Effects control can be used, but it has no panning control. I know, I could use a balance effect, but it seems as an overkill for a simple panning.

    VidMuze,
This is a "slippery slope," and things can get pretty gray.
As an example, the MOD on the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum is part of a multi-tier Web site, Muvipix. It's multi-tier, in that it is open to post and read (their Community Forums) to anyone. If one takes advantage of the free "sign-up," then there are many articles, etc., that become available, and more material that is available for a price to download. Then, there is a full subscription, where everything is available for no additional charge. When he, or I, link to Muvipix, we try to explain the multi-tier aspect, and define what is available for free, just so that there are no surprises. As Muvipix is in partnership with Adobe, some potential issues are probably skirted, but still, no one wants to give the impression that EVERYTHING there is for free. Sometimes a tough call.
Also, that MOD is an author of books on several Adobe programs (plus a few non-Adobe programs), so linking to his books is a bit of a touchy subject. Still, individually, he's an Adobe Partner, so some of the legal stuff is covered in contracts' fine-print.
    Good luck,

  • Panning audio in iMovie?

    Hi there,
I was making a little vid of me playing my gee-tar, and I had only one mic going into my Duet. The sound came out only on the left side. Is there any way to pan this into the center via iMovie, or, if not, to move the audio into an audio app (like Logic, or Soundtrack Pro), center the audio, and then re-sync it to the video? Seems like a lot of work for a simple thing.
    Thanks,
    Glenn

  • Difficulty panning audio easily in Premiere Pro CC

My video clip has 2 channels of audio from my camera, one for a wireless lav and the other for the onboard camera mic.
Is there an easy way to pan both channels to the center so that they both come through on L&R?
Right now I have to copy the clip, stack the copy on top of the original, then pan the one clip to the left and the other to the right to get the mono sound I need.
    Thanks!

Awesome, you just saved me untold time while editing future projects, can't thank you enough!!Richard M Knight@

  • Panning audio across channels

I recorded an interview with two microphones, each going into a separate channel so that I could adjust audio levels separately in post (e.g. mic one on left channel and mic two on right channel).
I have now assembled a sequence with all edits as I want them. Now I want to work on my stereo track. I want to take the left audio channel and do some processing on it and pan it (part way) into the right channel and pan the right channel into the left channel. I don't want to merge the two into a single mono channel since I still want a bit of separation (e.g. interviewer coming from slightly left and interviewee slightly on the right).
How do I do this? I tried playing with submixes but I couldn't find the right combination.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

    Jim,
Thanks for the tip. However, I couldn't duplicate the audio track. I do see a duplicate command in the edit menu, but it's grayed out. Not sure under what conditions I can do this.
    Andyurtu,
Thanks for the information. I tried this and it created two separate audio files. Unfortunately they are not associated with the video now and so it seems I have to rebuild the entire audio track in my timeline and resynch everything. Are there some features I am missing which can make this easier?

  • Why logic can't send post pan audio to buses with CoreAudio?

    Hi,
The "post Pan" send option is only for TDM users…
Routing a track to a bus, then to an Aux track in order to obtain a post pan send is really anoying :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300058
This issue turns the mix in logic into a complex thing.
How are you dealing with this?
Is there any technical reason to restrict this function to TDM-users only?
    Thanks for your help.

This doesn't really help in all situations. For example in case of paralell drum compression: because sometimes it is necessary to send less cymbals or less toms etc (lower volume)... to the "wet" (compressed) BUS than you send (Output) to the "dry" BUS. This is because the tracks are very often compressed themselves and very often you just have Snare Bottom and Top Mic tracks, Inside&Outside Kick Tracks etc. and sometimes some of these are compressed heavily already and you do not want to send them to "paralell" BUS so loud as to "dry" BUS to have the best "fattening" result.
And because Direction Mixer overrides the PAN LAw, giving us the POST PAN option for sends is the only really "PRO" solution.

  • STP changing panning audio during 5.1 export

So I'm having this issue where, when I export a Master Mix from STP in either AIFF stems or AC3, it's moving some dialog that would normally be in the center channel into the L and R channels. When I export just my Dialog submix as L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs stems, everything comes out fine. It's only when I'm exporting the Master Mix. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Do you mean that you want to use output from SAPI as inputs to the LabVIEW Sound functions?  Or are you trying to use the SAPI in LabVIEW?  If the latter, there's a pretty good example on the community that shows how to do this.
Also, this is slightly unrelated, but really cool and might give you some more insight on using the SAPI in LabVIEW.  LabVIEW Speak allows you to use your voice to program LabVIEW.

  • Compressed audio to Blu-ray quality sounds muffled

    Hello!
I am having difficulties keeping the audio quality of a HQ video, edited in Final Cut Pro, after compressing it with Compressor 4 to Blu-ray quality.
In Compressor 4 I used Dolby Digital Professional option for audio (ac-3) but after compressing, the audio sounds smothered/muffled in comparison to the original.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I have tried many things, including making the sound level higher in FCP before sending in to Compressor and changing the audio settings in Compressor quite some times.
    Please help!

Try this: In the Inspector>Encoder pane>Audio, set Dialogue Normalization to -31 and in the Preprocessing pane, choose None for Compression Preset. Otherwise, experiment with different Compression Presets.
    Good luck.

  • Audio level question

I have 10 clips of audio on my time line and they are all panned to the left. Is there a way to mark in at the first clip, mark out on the last clip and pan them all to the center at once instead of doing them individually?????
    thanks!

I've not tried this and my system is busy, but...
Have you tried panning the first clip to center, then control-click on that clip, choose 'copy', then lasso the remaining clips, control-click, paste attributes?
Not sure it works for panning audio, so let us know.

  • Imovie6/itunes audio level question

i'm cutting a piece in imovie6. the audio attached to the video clip was recorded rather low, not too low, but a wee bit an the quiet side. i want to boost and level off the audio. on several boards the suggestion was to send the audio track via the imovie/ilife share menu to garageband where i could boost the audio level while adding a dose of compression to remove some of the now raised noise floor. i have tried this 2x and have not noticed/heard the difference (which should have been apparent). after garageband the path back to imovie6 is via itunes. in itunes i have been able to successful boost the audio via the get info box->options and raised the levels while also incorporating the "spoken word" setting in the equalizer.
the question is: are the itune "changes" on the audio track or only via itunes playback? in other words, if i burned the louder audio track to a cd would the itune "changes" be there? or will those "changes" only be present when i play the track thru itunes.
i hope my question is not too confusing.
thanks in advance to those who care to share.
    be well

  • Mono to stereo or combine audio

I have an iMovie that is an electronic white board. I recorded an audio file from my Nikon (so I would think it would be stereo) and added that to the whiteboard video. I've been told the audio is mono, but I don't know how to verify that or how to correct it. 1. How can I tell if the audio track is mono or stereo? 2. If it is mono can I convert it to stereo or play it as mono on both tracks to simulate stereo? Thanks.

    Hi
In iMovie You can not do any of it.
    But You can
    • From Event's - iPhoto Videos take it and drop it into a new Project
    • From Project You export it as QuickTime and as Audio only (.aiff)
    • This file You can open in an Audio/Sound-Editor as Audacity (free on Internet) or GarageBand ( might work ? )
And here in e.g. Audacity You can see if the Right and Left track are identical = MONO or have slight differences. I do this by invert one track and add it to the other - if it is silent - then the tracks are in Mono if not then You've got a Stereo Sound from start.
    Mono to Stereo = Impossibly
Mono out via Left and Right speaker - Just copy the audio in one track and paste it into the other - BUT still when You listen all will come from center. Simulated Stereo - I've never seen any working application that can produce this.
When done in Audacity - then Save (still as .aiff) and import this to Your Movie project.
Far from so easy as in FinalCut Pro. Where You just pan audio to the other canal.

  • Digital Audio Optical Input S/PDIF on Mac Mini 10.9.2

For years prior, with my MMP 15", etc. and since the fall the Mac Mini (fall '13), the setup worked flawlessly ... until recently -- since around the time updating to 10.9.2 I have had intermittant issues with the digital I/O with my Apogee Rosetta 200 until it stopped all together last week.
I have replaced or swapped out the cables first off, to no improvement -- I called Apogee and we were able to prove the input to Apogee with an Eventide Esclipse's S/PDIF output.
I called Apple and the tech and I rebooted in safemode and saw the Audio Devices pane of Audio Midi Setup and Sound neither showed the digital input/output as being active.  I sent the unit in and the logic board was replaced in view of the circumstances.
I just setup the repaired unit and now the S/PDIF out (from the Mini to the Rosetta) works -- the Sound pane shows that shows the functioning digital input however, and conspicuosly, the Audio/Midi does not (and used to).
Further, the S/PDIF in (from the Apogee to the Mac) is neither functioning nor the two panes, Audio devices and Sound, register the digial input.
Is there an issue with 10.9.2 or is it possible the one of the 1/8" analog/light pipe inputs of the Mac Mini is also not working and not determined/checked duri -- other ideas?
I have a backgorund as a Mac tech and a member of Apple Solutions Expert since back in the 90's ...

The optical digital audio input is a good way to get basic digital audio data into the Mac - assuming you have the audio in that format. Most vinyl digitizing folks do not.
The most common hardware configuration is to use your old vinyl turntable, connected to the proper phono input of a stereo (most modern stereos do not have this and you have to buy an outboard phono preamp). Then the recording (tape) output of the stereo goes to an audio interface that connects to the Mac with Firewire or USB, and not using the Mac optical input at all. There are dozens of famous makers of interfaces from a hundred dollars to thousands. For the casual user, I'd say $250 is a nice spot. You can get a stereo interface that takes analog input from your stereo, digitizes it, and send it to the Mac. It will also accept microphones, should you want. You'll need software to record and edit the audio (Audacity is free and works) and you can use iTunes to make CDs (although cumbersome).
There are interfaces that do have optical outputs that you could connect to the Mac. But since optical interfaces are rare on computers, and have many limitations, this isn't so common.
There are many tutorials on the net about digitizing LPs on computers.
