Panning from left to right only

Hi,
I have a still image that I imported into my iMovie project. I was wondering if there was a way to do a pan from left to right with no loss in image size (i.e. no panning into the image).
I suspect, having tried to work with the Ken Burns, Fit and Crop functions, that this is not possible. But was hoping one of the forum users had cleverly figured out how to do this type of panning.

Open Automator
Choose File>new
Highlight Image Capture Plug-in, then click Choose.
In the Actions Variables panel on the left, click Photos
In the panel that appears next to the Actions panel, scroll down to Pad Images (choices are listed alphabetically), highlight, click save, then name it and save
When you want to use this plug-in, open Image Capture (I keep the icon in the dock), then connect your camera.
Next follow File>Import>workflow saved as the Image Capture plug-in
Click import and the images will be 'padded' as they are imported.

Panning from left to right speakers

We are presently having problems panning form left to right speakers. We have a t.c. Konnekt 6 midi interface and this is linked through an amp to speakers. By playing my guitar directly into the Konnekt 6, we can pan from L to R speakers whilst playing - no problem! However, when recording to GB, through the Konnekt 6, when panning from L to R, the sound remains constant through both speakers. We have checked and double-checked the settings in line with the text books - and also tried to mix and match settings - e.g. we have tried both stereo and mono in the "input source" and with the "monitor" setting at both 'on' and 'off' - yet we cannot find a combination of settings that allows us to record and then pan L to R.
Recording itself is fine - we can lay tracks, no problem. It is just the matter of being able to pan when it comes to mastering.
Can anyone help, please?????

(btw, it's an audio interface, not a midi interface... that was a little confusing)

I thought this was possible? Am I dreaming that I've done this before?

If you use the height of the image as the height of your image container (so the image is wider but not higher than its box), the panning will automatically be restricted to left and right. Is that what you were dreaming of ?

Trying to pan from let to right of a still photo.

I have a still image that I want the frame to slightly pan from left to right.
For example, the image is 1920x1080 and the actual viewing area is 1280x720 with the rest of the image unseen in the background.
I want to have the viewable area track from left to right a little bit just to give a panning effect.

Keyframe animation (which is what you need for this project) is one of the very basic first steps to learn when working with After Effects. I highly suggest you either start here or start here and learn these basics before you try to go any further in AE.
Before that, another basic building block is creating compositions. You need to make one that's 1280x720.
And another basic skill is importing assets and footage (another basic building block), but I'm assuming you've figured this part out.
Basically, you need to animate either the position or the anchor point of your picture layer.

Last point...who archives? On my regular email page I now have the Archive icon to the left of my Delete icon which I would prefer was to the left, first in the line as this is the icon I use mostly. With Folders, my Sent and Trash lists, who needs to archive?
I can help you only with the placement of the icon placement -- if you right-mouse click on the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar, you can move an icon to where you want it to be.

Having resent my iPad using the Settings route, the Apple logo appeared onscreen and a line below it filled from left to right. When full, the device did nothing. I was able to switch it off and back on, only to see the same Apple logo and filled line. Even pressing the ON botton for a few seconds did nothing. The device is now inert, and I cannot access it. Please help!!!

Reset iPad and continue with Restore.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

Changing track from left to right speaker

I recently acquired a Macbook with Garageband '09. I made a recording with two mics, one recording a guitar, and one recording a drum kit (They were both recorded at once on the same track). Since I had set the input to stereo, the guitar (mic 1) played through the left speaker, and the drums (mic 2) played through the right speaker. I would like to have mono sound, but I still want to use two mics to provide better clarity and prevent spill.
Is there a way to keep the track I have (guitar=left/drums=right) and perhaps duplicate it and switch channels from left to right creating a mono sound? Basically one track would be guitar=left/drums=right and the other would be guitar=right/drums=left. Or is there perhaps a way to switch a stereo recording to mono once recorded?

I would like to make a track mono, but do not see where in the "pane" I can do that. The only option I have found is to change the input from stereo to mono. Since I have audio that is already recorded, and is unfortunately only on the left track, is there a way to get the mix down to be mono so that I'm getting the audio in both speakers?

HT1600 I have an Apple TV 2nd Gen, iPad 2 and can't get the icon to appear when i swipe from left to right. What am I missing? I am able to get the 'Home sharing' 'user and password on my Mac.

Also using IPad 2 I am able to get the ITunes to accept the user name and same password as the Mac.
However, the only way I can see the 'Home sharing; icon is in Music on the Ipad. When I tap on the Icon it asks for a password.
When I give the same password, it is rejected.

Personally I think the iOS devices are poor at reconnecting - Airplay establishes that a link is available but when the iPhone/iPad has been away from the house and rejoins the network i think AppleTV already thinks it's connected with a different IP address and fails to recognise it has joined the network again with new credentials.
Something along those lines anyway.
I find that a combination of restarting AppleTV, router and iOS device tends to fix it, but not for everyone.

When I play HD video's (720p) they play properly and just fine, when i play lower resolution videos (480) i see lines that run across from left to right in the middle of the screen, I can't find any settings to change to prevent that from happening. I would think if it was a computer problem it would have more trouble with the HD content than the SD content.
Does anyone know how to handle this?

Plotting Data on a fixed time axis from left to right

I am plotting data on a Historical Trend graph from the DSC palette. I receive the data from a plc throughout the course of a production shift. I would like to have the start time of the shift (07:00) on the far left of the x-axis and the end time of the shift on the far right (15:30). I would like to plot the data from left to right as the shift progresses. Is this possible? How do I format?

Hi Stuart,
All you need to do is place down a waveform chart and then modify the properties slightly in order to achieve this. If you right click and make sure autoscaling is turned off on the x-axis first of all, then go into the properties page and change the x-axis formatting to absolute time then you will be able to plot data with the actual time according to your system clock.
The only problem you have now is that there probably isn't enough room on the chart to plot data for the entire time between 09:00 and 15:30 depending on how often you want to sample. The default number of data points to keep in the chart is 1024. Therefore if you try and change the max and min values to 09:00 and 15:30 then it won't allow you to set that up as it doesn't think you have enough room there. Right click on the chart again and go down to Chart History Length. Increase this number to a large enough number and then you will be able to set the start time to 09:00 and the end time to 15:30 and as long as autoscaling is turned off this will not change.
Hope this helps, please find the attached example which will plot random numbers to a chart once a minute and the chart will plot data between these times.

Shrinking a graphic from left to right

I am trying to transform a photo from 100% to 0% (which I
will want it to do slowly to reveal another photo underneath) and
only the width and not the height to decrease which I know how to
do but instead of both sides of the photo shrinking to the centre
of the photo (when using the free transform tool), I want it to
decrease to 0% from left to right - a bit like a slideshow moving
from left to right but the photo doesn't actually move, it just
shrinks starting from the left side to the right revealing the next
photo underneath. I thought this would be a simple thing to do but
I can't work out how to do it.

You can do this by moving the center point of the picture.
Select the Free Transform tool and select the image and move the
little white circle (usually placed in the middle), and move it to
the right edge of the image.

Fading an Object in From Left To Right

I'm trying to simply have a "square" fade in from left to right. Kind of like a "wipe" transition. Using the Fade In/Out Behavior only allows the whole object to fade in from 0% to 100% opacity at the same time.
Anyone have any ideas on how I might accomplish this extreme quest of wizardry?

I'd like to add an alternative solution. Maxx's idea may give you more customization but my idea is a shade simpler: I'm not involving a true gradient, but feathering the mask instead.
Draw a mask around your object. It may need to be quite a bit larger than the object in question. You'll know that, once you start playing with.
Animate the mask's control points. I like to set the last keyframe first, where your object is completely visible. Then move the playhead to a prior point in time. Then set another mask keyframe. Now click on the upper right hand point of the mask, hold down shift, then select the bottom right hand point of the mask.
With these points selected, If you then click and drag on the line between these 2 points, the whole right mask edge should move as one. Peel this line all of the way left until your object disappears. If you push play now, the object should sort of "wipe on" from left to right.
One more thing: Mask feather. With the mask selected, the HUD should have mention of "Feather". You'll want to dial this up. But if your playhead is parked at the beginning of the animation or at the end, you're not likely to see anything. So move the playhead such that you're parked between your 2 keyframes, with the object about halfway exposed, then adjust the feather to your liking.
Again, here is where you'll need to determine if the whole mask needs to be larger because you really only want the object to be effected by this "growing right edge". You don't want to see the feathering on the other edges, probably.
Anyway, this is Just another way to skin a cat. Maybe this will help you out.

Lighter line passing from left to right

Ok, so I experimented a bit about what you're trying to do and here's what I came up with. I think the key is to create a key (no pun intended). Think of the black text as a cut out instead of text. Then you can place a particle emitter behind the cutout and create your inner glow. Here's what I did.
Create a white rectangle to serve as your "background". Create a text object and type your text. Color it black and then group it to the white rectangle. Name it "text".
Place a luma key on the text group and have it key out darker. Because you have black text and an all white rectangle, only the text portion will key out.
Create a new group and place it BELOW the text group. Call it "fx". Hunt through the particle emitters until you find one that gives you the kind of glow you are looking for. I liked the looks of the: Afterburner, Cool, and Embryo emitters.
Adjust the colors to the particle cells to the color(s) you want to use (I recommend not making it all white because then you're text just disappears against the white rectangle). I used the Atlantic Blue preset and liked the way it looked.
Then keyframe or use a behavior to move the emitter from one side of the text to the other to give it the move you want.

I need help deleting videos, tv shows, and movies downloaded from itunes. I have followed the instructions to delete from the macbook, I selected the videos I wanted to delete and right clicked to delete. Nothing happens. When I double click on the video it still starts playing. I also followed the instructions to delete the videos from the iphone by swiping from left to right with nothing happening. I opened the videos on the ipad and there is no edit selection like in the instructions on the support page. Can you please tell me how to permanently remove this content so it doesn't try to copy from each device when I want to back up the Iphone and Ipad to my macbook. Thank you.
