Panning slideshow

Hi All,
I am new to Premier Pro and have been asked to put together a slideshow for a friends wedding.
Rather than having a slideshow that fades in or out between images my plan is to have the camera pan across different images zooming in and out of some. Effectively, the visual effect I am after is like the pictures are pinned up on a wall and the camera is browsing across them, zooming in on some selected ones. This would require some of the images to appear within the same frames as each other as the camera pans vertical or horizontal.
I have had a look for some info on doing this kind of effect but all I can really find are tutorials on panning/zooming on an individual image before displaying the next image.
I would just like to know if this is even possible to do within premiere pro for a novice who is prepared to sit and read or watch multiple tutorials or guides.
Thanks

I would do this in After Effects.
Either build it yourself, or there are lots
of templates available on the web... like this one:

Nope. Be a great feature. For that I use FotoMagico after exporting JPEG's from LR.

  • How to set the duration of each pic in a slideshow (and also how to pan and zoom)

I have about 30 pictures I would like to add to a slide show.
When I add them the duration for each picture is set to 6 seconds.
I would like this changed to 4 seconds.
But manually changing the duration of each individual picture, one by one, is a slow and tedious task.
Is there a way of changing the duration of all my pictures at the same time, from 6 seconds to 4 seconds ?
Or can I change a setting so that when I insert my pictures the duration is set to 4 seconds instead of 6 seconds ?
As for the pan and zoom, I have seen the pan and zoom effect but this has a black border around the pictures as they zoom in and out.
For example, when zooming in the picture starts small with a black border all round the edge.
When zooming out the picture ends small with a black border all round the edge.
Is there a way to pan and zoom starting with a full screen when zooming in, and ending with a full screen when zooming out ?
Thereby not showing any ugly black borders.
My Nokia N73 phone can do it !
You can view the pictures as a slide show and when it pans and zooms it looks so much better because it does not show any black borders.
The picture ALWAYS fills the screen even though it is panning and zooming.

If you go to Edit/Preferences, you can set the default duration for each slide. This will affect only those photos you've imported into your project AFTER changing this preference.
You should also turn off the preference for Scale to Frame Size, so your photos do not fill the screen. (And, for efficiency's sake, make sure your source photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs at the top of this forum.)
You can also set the duration of each slide by selecting all of the stills you want to include on in your slideshow, right-clicking and selecting the Create Slideshow option.

  • Is Copy Paste Pans & Zooms Possible in Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor Slideshow?

In the Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor, someone wants to create a unique pan and zoom effect for one photo and be able to apply it the the rest of the photos in the Filmstrip without having to do that on an individual photo basis.
In the Slide Show Editor, Edit Menu/Apply Pan & Zoom to All Slides or Apply Pan & Zoom to Selected Slide(s) does not get the job done. Instead it looks like it just applies the default Photoshop Elements pan and zoom. I have investigated several routes to the goal unsuccesful and have concluded that Photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor offers no such copy paste pans & zoom feature.
I have detailed how to add more than one pan & zoom per slide, how to get the pan & zoom copy/paste job done in Premiere Elements, either doing all the pan & zoom in Premiere Elements or creating the pan & zoom in Photoshop Elements for one slide, using Send to Premiere Elements, Break Apart Adobe Photoshop Elements Slideshow, copy/paste of the transferred pan & zoom. Believe it or not, that does work. I know that there will be skeptics who feel that the pan & zoom timing would be distored, but....This person does not have or want Premiere Elements in the equation. So, I am looking for a way out for her.
I am posting the question here for someone to confirm my conclusion or offer a way that has escaped me. If someone has found a way, he/she will be fully created for the contribution and thanked.

Copy and past funtionaliy is not available  in pan & zoom feature. Please do a feature request.

  • Just bought Photoshop Elements 13...I'm trying to make a slideshow but can't figure out how to alter duration time that the slide is on the screen.  They presently move from one to another way too quickly...also need a different pan and zoom option.  Wher

Just bought Photoshop Elements 13...I'm trying to make a slideshow but can't figure out how to alter duration time that the slide is on the screen.  They presently move from one to another way too quickly...also need a different pan and zoom option.  Where are all the options I had in PS10?  Also...Can I burn this to a DVD?

The changes have brought improvements but also drawbacks compared with the old slideshow editor.
The templates are now fairly fixed but I find the “Classic Dark” gives reasonable results with some panning and you can click the audio button and browse you PC for any track. Unfortunately there are only three speed choices linked to the music track. The improvement for most people is that you can now export to your hard drive at 720p or 1080p and upload to sites like YouTube and Vimeo.

  • Jerky horizontal panning in slideshows exported to QT

After having a few issues with iMovie 6 to create slideshows, I tried again in iPhoto, as the 'fit to music' bug appears to be fixed.
All is well - much quicker to produce than with iMovie - but photos that have ken burns applied which pan from left to right, or right to left, appear fine in iPhoto, but are noticably jerky once exported to QT.
Has anyone had similar problems, or know of any fixes?
    Cheers,
    Iain

You need to de-interlace before you output to QT and WMV. There's a basic de-interlace filter built-in to Final Cut Pro or you can get a higher quality 3rd-party de-interlacing tool.

  • Can I Do Pan & Zoom Motion in iDVD Photo Slideshows ?

I just moved over from a PC to an iMac, and am trying to make a DVD out of a lot of still images. In Roxio Easy Creator, you could select a Pan & Zoom option for the slideshows, which would give the effect of the photos moving around while the slideshow played, it simulated motion and looked really cool.
I s there a way to do this in iDVD ?
    Thanks.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD, but they all have one thing in common: they reduce the quality of the photos to that of a movie still frame and sometimes limit the number of photos you can use.
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

  • Can't find Slideshow Settings button or pane

    Hello,
I'm on my way to slideshow to QT to iMovie to YouTube, but I can't find how to set the display time of the slides. The help pages are mentioning things I cannot find.
    Thank you.

If you're working from an album and not a slideshow as Terence mentioned, while the slideshow is playing move the cursor near the bottom of the screen and the settings and music panes will appear where you can select them. The settings can be saved but will apply only to that particular album.
For more control over the slideshow create one like Terence mentioned.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow Pan & Zoom issues with imported pictures

I am using PSE7 on a Windows XP machine. When I create a slideshow, I have the default set to pan and zoom the pictures. If I add pictures that are already in my catalog, it works great and will apply a random pan and zoom to each of the pictures. If, however, I add a picture from a folder and choose pictures that are not already in my catalog, it will add the picture to the slideshow but will not apply a pan and zoom to it (even though I said that it should). I can then manually add it, but it is not random, it always uses the same pan and zoom for each picture. In my most recent project, I had over 100 pictures I added to a slideshow that were not in my catalog. They all imported into the slideshow, but had no pan and zoom even though I had the option selected. I then selected all the slides, applied pan and zoom, and they all ended up with the exact same pan and zoom - nothing random. I really wasn't in the mood to manually change all 100+ pictures pan/zoom features. So, I created a new catalog, imported the pictures into the catalog, then created the slideshow, and it worked fine. Then, since I don't want those photos in a catalog, I delete the catalog. A lot of extra steps for something that I think should work no matter if you are importing files from the catalog or files from a folder. Or am I just doing something wrong?

    Paul,
Since I do catalog photos which I will be using a slide show, I guess that I may never experience this bug. I am curious about whether there is any difference in the behavior depending on whether these photos are from a digital camera or scanned photos?
Howeer, I do agree with your conclusion that since the slide show does support adding photo files (that are not in the Catalog) directly from their folder location into the slide show, it should apply random pan and zoom consistently.
Here is a link to the process to report that bug to Adobe -

  • Iphoto "freezing" when launching slideshow or preferences pane

I am running iphoto 7.1(347). I have 15,523 photos in the library. Whenever I try to launch a slideshow of RAW photos, I get the beach ball for about 5mins or so, then it plays fine. I also get it sometimes when I open the preferences pane as well.
I have already rebuilt the library and deleted the pref file.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks
    -kev

Yes, it is a bug introduced with the iLife 08 Support update. I believe Apple has acknowledged it and is working on it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Kevin Burns pan blurs panorama pics in slideshows

There is a strange Effect when panning over Pictures in iPhoto slideshows. It works well when panning vertically over portrait orientated pictures, but fails when doing the same with Panorama pictures, i.e. produced with PanoramaMaker or else with a ratio like 1:4. These pictures are extremely blurred, depending on the picture ratio. The resolution has no effect, tried it with high-res and lower res pictures, so it can not be a memory problem.
It seems as iPhoto samples these pictures down to a virtual maximum width...
    any experiences or ideas?

    Wonderful pictures by the way.
    Here's what happened:
1.)  I downloaded the project and opened it in premiere pro
2.)  First this box popped up:
"This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration,
which is not available on this system.  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only
will be used."      Then I clicked ok.
3.) Secondly, this box popped up:
"The editing mode used by this sequence could not be loaded.  The sequence will be opened in Desktop mode."
                                         Then I clicked ok.
4.) I finally got the project into ppro, when I tried to render ppro quit.
5.) I reopened ppro, tried to open the same project and this popped up:
              "FILE IMPORT FAILURE
                        PPRO_Image_Test.proj
                  Error Message
                        File format not supported"
                                      Then I clicked ok.
6.) When the file opened in ppro, all the media was offline and I couldn't re link it.
    At which point I stopped.

  • Please tell me you can use pan/zoom tool for photo slideshow with photos not cropped to screen?

I'm new to Mac and Premiere Elements (former PC/Sony Vegas Movie user), and am trying to do a Ken Burns type photo slideshow wherein my photos are left in their normal cropped state.  Right now it seems all photos get cropped to fill the screen size (i.e. 16:9).  I saw where you could uncheck the scale photo size to media (or something to that effect) under the general setting in preferences, but using the pan/zool tool still shows photos cropped to fill screen.  I realize conflicting aspect ratio will result in black bars top/bottom or left/right of frame, and that's ok/what I want.  I'm hoping this is doable?  Thanks, Jim

The primary question that I have is what is the end product...DVD-VIDEO Standard on DVD disc, DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc or other?
Let us assume for now DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc. The next question that falls into line is the one relating to what you describe as an assortment of photos going into this project...what are the pixel dimensions (what range of...) and aspect ratio. For aspect ratio, are we talking 4:3 or 16:9. How many of these photos are landscape oriented or how many portrait oriented.
In generalities at this point, I would ask you to look at:
    a. bringing your photos appropriately sized into a Premiere Elements project with an appropriate project preset.
    b. leaving Edit Menu/Preferences/General with its Default Scale to Frame Size with a check mark.
    c. in the workspace, scaling the photos to just fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor
    d. then one by one pan and zoom a photo with the Pan and Zoom Tool.
If you use this Tool, you should get good results. One consideration is that the process results in the Timeline photo having a much larger duration AFTER than BEFORE. If you see any pros in using this tool for your purposes, then you might want to explore the technique that I described for applying a pan and zoom effect from this Tool to more than one photo at a time.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-pan-zoom-tool-more-than-one-photo.html
You also might want to explore fxEffects/Presets for horizontal and vertical pans or zoom. The catch in the presets is that you can apply a pan OR zoom, not a pan AND zoom to each photo.
Keyframing of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan) should be explored under Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded/Scale and Position properties.
With more details from you, we could go step by step in any of the above.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • How do I slowly pan across photos in a slideshow

trying to build a dynamic slideshow in dreamweaver.  Saw a site that I liked where the photo appeared to actually slowly move in the window it was being viewed in.  Have also seen some that will zoom in a bit or zoom out.  Is this a dreamweaver capability or do I need to be looking at Javascript or Flash.  I could provide a link to the site where I saw this effect but don't know if that is allowed.

Are you using Javascript or Flash?
If Javascript, try the link I gave you before.
There's a Mootools extension for it

  • Pan & scan with slideshow title slide

I've been trying to use the Ken Burns effect with a title slide in a slideshow - but can't get it to work.
Is this possible please - without having to create a video workaround in FCP / iMovie?
    Thanks
    Julian

Interesting: I just tried it, and Aperture will not let me do it. The only work around I can think of is to trick Aperture into thinking a text slide is a picture slide. You could create this faux text slide using the book tool, but it would be way easier to create it in another app that will save to a picture file format and then import it. If you have Powerpoint or Keynote ($20USD on App store), it will be super easy. You could also do it with Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Pixelmator ($30USD on App store), Gimp (free) or any number of apps.

  • New Mac/APE 12 user Used to have Cyberlink Powerdirector 9 for video/slideshow editing.  HELP!

I have recently purchased APE 12 to help with editing a slideshow.  Previously I used Cyberlink Powerdirector 9 on my PC.  At this point I am very disappointed in the money I spent.  There is so much less I can do with the structure of the slideshow.  My questions are to see if I am missing something.
    1)  On PowerDirector I had several options on the type of slideshow I wanted, movement, scrapbook, photo album, 3-D and more, I only see the option for Pan and Zoom on APE 12 and even that is hard to figure out.  Am I missing something?
    2) Am I understanding that once I put a still image on the Timeline I can only change the duration one image at a time?  Is there any way to select a group of images to edit?
    3) I may have this one figured out, after searching and reading a lot, but Is there an easy way to fade out volume to make transitions smooth?  I have had success, but more failure and struggle to find out what is working.
    4) Why does APE 12 move stuff if I add something on another track?  Can I lock the video track so it won't do that?
    Thanks a bunch!!

Premiere Elements can help you create a slideshow with numerous effects, including pan and zoom,  but it is a video editor rather than a slideshow generator. It is not going to give you choices of slideshows. But, I guess you could look at the Instant Movie Feature as sort of a counterpart of what you were using previously.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/instant-movies.html
If your program is on Windows, you have slideshow opportunities in the Elements Organizer as well as the Premiere Elements workspace. On Mac, there is no slideshow feature in the Elements Organizer as there is the Windows counterpart.
If you are in the Expert workspace, you can change the duration of more than one clip at a time - See Time Stretch Tool after you select (altogether) the clips whose duration is to be changed.
And, there is no lock track feature. On Windows, one holds down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as an addition is made to the Timeline so has not to disturb the content already there.
Click the More on the Transition Adjustments pop up. Also look to the transition alignment and duration in relation to the duration of the clips involved.
Also consider that you will be running into several Windows Only features.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.
