Pantech UML290 - Constant Disconnects in SE Ohio

Hi everyone,
This is my story.
We were originally on the $59.99/5g plan and finding ourselves going over every month. At  $.05 for every mb over the 5g it can get very expensive. We were using the USB 760 modem with a cradlepoint ctr-350 router, and an external antenna. With 3 laptops and Xbox Live the network was slow but we never got disconnected.  Our best option was to go with the 4g plan at $80/10g. Bought the modem for $99 + tax and had to buy a new cradlepoint ctr-35 router which was $80 + shipping. Had to buy a new antenna adapter for about $10. With almost $200 invested in new equipment, we were ready to enjoy our new plan. Unfortunately, thats when our problems started. The Pantech UML290 constantly disconnects. Downloaded a program from the internet to lock the modem into 3g only and figured this would help based on comments in other forums. Seemed to help some, but no major difference.  Craddlepoint router works great as I expected because these are great products unlike Verizon's. It is very frustrating when you are doing important business online and cannot rely on uninterrupted service. If nothing changes within the next week, I am returning the Pantech UML290, going back to my old 3g service, and changing providers when my contract is up. What a shame to spend alot more money for worse service. Buyer beware.

FYI: I just called in for a second repalcement modem, first one failed to do the firmware update back in Feb. And since I got this second one, it has been dropping out, PC tells me the USB device failed, that was on a XP machine. Moved it to a Windows 7 machine, and I got the same thing. Just a few weeks ago, I got the firmware update for my Cradlepoint UMR-900 and I thought all was good, but sure enough, the router even reported that the USB device is not available.
This is with the Verizon's data plan. Now I wish I did not cancel on my Sprint data card, may have not been as fast, but it was dependable. I also had a Pentech modem with Sprint way back, it too gave me problems.
If your system indicates that the USB device failed or USB device is not available, there may be a windows Device Manager Conflict. Resolving such conflict may resolve your connection concerns, please find instructions to address Windows Device Manager Conflicts at the link below:

  • Is there a way to get my pantech uml290 to automatically reconnect when my windows 7 pc wakes up?

I have my windows 7 pro desktop set to go to sleep every hour (control panel, power options). When it wakes up, the pantech uml290 mifi device is invariably disconnected. I used to just restart the computer, but I found if I go into device manager (right-click my computer, properties, device manager) and click on network and click action, then scan for hardware changes it will reconnect it. But there should be a way to set the device so it reconnects automatically.

Update-PROBLEM FIXED by verizon support. I called my local verizon wireless store, who quickly got me tech support after running through a few things. I didn't know you could disable power management for just one device, but verizon tech support did! So you go into device manager, expand universal serial bus controllers, right click the first "root hub", click the power tab, and see if your device shows up. If it doesn't, continue this process through all the root hubs until it does.
When you find it, select it, and click the power management tab on the far right. Uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Restart the computer to save this setting. Then test it by putting the computer to sleep.
It did take about 30 seconds until the pantech uml 290 was connected, but it connected successfully three times in a row. I'm very happy with both the verizon store and verizon tech support. They were both very helpful and pleasant to talk t, and efficiently resolved the problem. I still think you pay too much for mobile broadband, and am a little put off that the problem existed in the first place, but I'm very happy to have this problem resolved.
One other piece of info. I got was that there is an upgrade, pantech 295 usb modem for only 30.00. So if I have any more problems I'll just try that.  (It's still a wired, not wireless device, which I prefer.)

  • Trade devices? Pantech UML290 USB device for MiFi 4510...

I have a Pantech UML290 broadband USB device. The portable MiFi would better suit my needs. I am still under contract and don't want to pay full retail just to get the MiFi.
I also have the CradlePoint CTR router that works with the Pantech, so functionality is basically the same other than having a device that is batter operated as the MiFi.
I mainly use my current USB device to connect my WiFi only iPad. I have had no problems with the Pantech or CradlePoint router. Occasionally when first connecting I do have to switch the router off/on to get the iPad to connect, but otherwise works great. I want to be able to take my wifi with me is the reason for wanting to trade.

    Check out Cradlepoint or peplink
    Cradlepoint has affordable price routers...

  • Shrew Soft VPN won't connect through 4G LTE - using Pantech UML290

    Hey everyone,
I'm using Shrew Soft VPN to connect to my companies network and can't seem to connect when using the 4G broadband. I have no issues using Ethernet/wifi but for some reason I can't establish a connection with using 4G.
I'm currently using the Pantech UML290 to connect to the 4G network. I tried to switch to 3G to see if there was some type of encryption causing the issue. That doesn't resolve it.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

I opened a case with Verizon and it seems the problem is on their end.  To get access to VPN again, you have to downgrade the VZAccess, downgrade the Firmware (that is "required") to an older version, and uninstall Verizon firmware updates in Add/Remove programs.  This is the email that VZ sent me:
Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Data Technical Support department through our website. We are sorry to learn that you are unable to connect to your company's VPN when using your UML290 Modem. We are pleased to assist you.
We can certainly understand your frustration when your device does not work as expected. You should be able to connect to your company's VPN service when using the UML290. We will be providing you with steps to check your VZAccess Manager Software version.
After updating to MR2 (Maintenance Release 2) software, the UML290 may not be able to connect to some VPNs. The MR2 software was included in the VZAccess Manager build 7.6.3 (2642j). To check the current version that you are currently running on your computer, please complete the steps provided below:
    1. Launch VZAccess Manager
    2. Click Help
    3. Select About VZAccess Manager
If you are running VZAccess Manager 7.6.3 (2642j), please downgrade the software. To do so, please complete the steps provided below:
    1. Browse to http://www.vzam.net/download/download.aspx
    2. Select your Operating System
    3. Select the device you are using
    4. Select your hardware i.e. Pantech UML290
    5. Click Continue
    6. Click the Downgrade Utility link located under the Installation Instructions and/or Device Drivers
You should be able to use the steps provided above to downgrade the VZAccess Manager Software. Once this has been completed, you should be able to connect to your company's VPN when using the Pantech UML290.
Make sure you read the read_me.pdf doc packaged with the firmware downgrade utility.  There are some steps that are left out of this procedure that are in that doc.  Good luck to everyone.

  • PANTECH UML290 problem

    Hi,
Having trouble installing my pantech UML290 4g aircard.  after installing the access manager, i plug in the usb card and receive an error saying that windows was unable to instal the RMNET service driver.  When i try to connect to the device in the access manager i get error "WMC100".  I am running windows vista, I read someone had a similar problem but no solution was posted.  Can someon help me out with this?
    Thanks,
    John

Alas, i was working fine on my uml290 through my cisco vpn connection too until i recently updated to the new firmware release of  L0290VWB333F.230 and now i can still connect through vpn fine but cannot open several microsoft applications, IM communicator and Outlook client.
The problem is with firmware version L0290VWB333F.230 because that's when the applications on the vpn side stopped functioning and won't open saying they can't connect to their local server. However, the local internet works fine with L0290VWB333F.230 but not through the cisco vpn anymore.
my vpn connection works fine through wireless and also ethernet connection which confirms its the firmware. there is no usb security filter on this my work laptop, open policy. i'm glad i have the other connectivity's as backup so i can work for now.
i have done a aircard trial with both the sprint and t-mobile aircard, the sprint signal was weak and the t-mobile only got 3g on their 4g rocket model and i was enjoying 4g on the pantech. But if the next firmware update from Verizon does not fix this vpn connectivity problem then i will gladly break out of my verizon contract to go with t-mobile since my livelihood is through vpn is the only reason i got it for. And i know the vpn worked fine through t-mobile.
I wonder if its being communicated up the chain, as more upgrade's occur there has to be more complaints coming...hope it get's addressed cause it's been unplugged for a week now and doesn't even make a good door stopper or a paper weight even though i'll pay my bill for it on time, until the patience wears out.

  • Pantech UML290 firmware update error wmc802

Firmware update check for the Pantech UML290 using VZAM fails.  The error is WMC802.  Does anyone know what this error means or how to do the firmware update check?  Thanks, Paul

SammuelP, I am having the same issue with my Verizon UML290 with the firmware error: WMC802. In the VZAccess Manager program dialog box, under Options, Preferences, Firmware Update, pressing the "Check for Updates" yields the WMC802 error some of the time, with the UML290 card connected or not connected. Were you able to solve this error for the first user in this thread? Thanks.

  • Pantech UML290, 2107 error code on Windows XP

I have a Pantech UML290 modem and I cannot connect to the Internet. Every time I try to connect I get an error popup indicating that there was an error connecting (error code 2107). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the VZAccess software several times with no luck. Just today I installed the same software on a different laptop sitting right next to the one I'm having the problem on and I had no problem establishing a connection and maintaining it for more than an hour. So it's not a UML290 modem or wireless network issue.
I actually originally had it working but the connection would drop every 3-5 minutes. I got frustrated and upgraded the firmware on the UML290 about a month ago. Ever since the firmware upgrade I can't even connect any more on this laptop.
Doing a Google search I've occasionally seen some possible conflicts between the VZAccess and Cisco VPN client software. I have several different Cisco VPN client applications installed but I need to leave them installed for work purposes. I also tried to put the VZAccess/modem into LAN mode using a separate utility but that didn't help.
    I'm running Windows XP SP3, VZAccess Manager version 7.7.1.5 (2703h), Pantech UML290, firmware L0290VWBB12F.248, hardware version REV_03.
Any suggestions? Any way that I can roll back the firmware upgrade on the modem?
    Thanks,

  • Pantech UML290 vs OS

I have a Pantech UML290 it does not work with My iBook G4 with a Power PC G4 processor.
Does Verizon Wireless have a driver for this combination of processor and USB modem?

  • PANTECH UML290 DOESNT WORK FOR ONLINE GAMING PLSE HELP!!!

my modem is Pantech UML290     .i  notice cannot play any online games...my old 3g modem works perfectly with the same games but this new service as far as online games or this modem apparently has issues...i have had nothing but problems, high ping rates and packet loss as well as jitter and no one with the exception of 1 service tech apparently cares  TECH DID A PING TEST AT ADRESS  ping -a 66.174.92.14  result were request timed out 4 times, packets sent=4 packets recieved=0  pakets loss = 4 , total= 100% loss, funny thing is i was still connected to internet  and if you ping google.com 0 paket loss...  apparently consistancy or server recognition might be a problem i dont know...maybe modem is bad...either way i cannot play any online games what so ever, when tested at speed test.com and pingtest.com states high ping and high jitter as well as packet loss, no one seems to have an answer for this  note!! on old 3g device i had played these same online games without any problems...so this 4g modem and service advertises online gaming and steady streaming and i cannot do neither why???  someone plse help!!!  also if you look under vz access manager statistics tab, you will see transfer and recieve rates like a heart beat monitor....it consistantly goes up and down like a heart beat instead of a steady flow, goes up as high as 10mbs then drops for a while to 0kbs and stays their for a lil bit...it apparently is loosing communications....old 3g device was a steady transfer flow rate that never dropped to 0 unless i wasnt doing anything...so why is this as well?

have'nt had any phone call's today regarding the slow down of my BT infinity broadband line.. in the last 3 hours have been online on both the PS3 & the XBOX and the problem is still there... im host in every online game i play but each game is almost unplayable every time..the actual game i play as host on the PS3 runs really slow (only as host) and looking left/right has a blurry feel to it.. on the XBOX its running slightly quicker but still nowhere like it does on both consoles when im not hosting.. when ever everybody else hosts a game that i join, after speaking to them they have had no problem what so ever.. most seem to be on a cable ISP but the speed stats are very simular to mine.. just the hosting is totally different for me...???
    http://speedtest.net/result/1586999761.png
    http://www.pingtest.net/result/50309878.png
just tested my speed with the above score... i still cant work out why my line is being slowed down ....
just reiterate that my g/f works from home mon-fri 8am-5pm on a live server including emails etc... the live server would involve being logged on all day checking accounts including various stock levels etc.. so she is very busy pretty much every day..
im online with my PS3/XBOX prob a couple of nights a week plus as i do shift work,on my days off i play COD most of them days .. so prob around 40/50 hours a week playing online depending..
i chose option 2 BT Infinty unlimited because i new i needed a very good line with all mine and my g/fs needs..

  • Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth.  Previously I had the 3mb.  Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service.  The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day).  Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time.  I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again.  I am using a westell modem.  Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys.  After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed.  I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well.  Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection.  Unil reently everything was fine, this just started!   Any help is greatly appreicated.  My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

  • Constant disconnects with wireless router.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a WRT54G wireless router with speed booster. I am experiencing constant disconnects when online gaming. I have one PC - running windows vista 64bit ultimate. This computer is running a wireless connection which is secured and is about 10 feet from the router through a wall.
I also have an xbox 360 with a wired connection. It doesnt seem to have the same issues but does become a bit sluggish at times.
I have called linksys and they instructed me on how to upgrade to the latest firmware. I think it is 7.5.0 or something. Still having issues. Cox (my ISP) has been out and says I am getting a constant 2mb download.
Any help would be appreciated. I have talked to linksys again they have me pull up cmd and run a test which shows me at a 4-10% packet loss. They say this is an acceptable rate.
Still the problems continue. If anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need more info just let me know and I will provide whatever I can. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a vista problem, they are breading like rabbits it seems. The WRT54G is a good router, I had one for years with no problems. What type of wireless card do you have in the pc, and is it PCI or USB

  • Constant disconnecting with my WRT120N

    Hi
I have a problem with my wrt120n. I'm having a constant disconnecting problem.
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok.
My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!

This is a problem of the Linksys/Cisco WRT120N product itself.  The team from Cisco/Linksys is very irresponsible. Why i say so ?
The 802.11n signal is not certified to be supported but yet they have included this support in this router.  By doing so, it causes this related problem that most consumers must be facing now or in the past.  It is a shame that such a big company operates and sell their products this way.
The solution:  It does not have anything to do with MTU, beacon interval etc....  Just use Mixed BG wireless signal instead of
Wireless N only when you goes to Manual Setup.  I am sure that this solves the problem.

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 constant disconnects

I just received mine yesterday and used it most of the day with almost no problems. Now it constant;y disconnects, to the point where it is unusable. Anyone else run into this problem?

The lights are not very useful for that.
Even the bars (or boxes) on the Admin page near the top is vague... however
you can go to Configuration -> Diagnostics and then select Modem Details and it will output a bunch of lines.
It will look something like below with the Signal for EVDO and LTE being what you are looking for.

  • Constant Disconnection from Router

    Hi,
I'm trying to get my N95 to co-operate with the Simple Home Media Server software I have.
For a few moments it will see the server, even connect and access it. After a minute, at the most, it will disconnect.
Can anyone help with this problem or is it a bug with the N95?
It never happened when I first got my phone and just used it for browsing via the wlan.
    Thanks,
    Cayne

Are you still able to browse the the net via wlan? If, no then you try to format you phone, backing up first. If yes, there are some configuration in home media server that you have overlook.
Frequent disconnection on wlan have numerous causes:
1- Interference from other signal that uses 2.4Ghz
signal such as microwave, remote tel. unit, etc.
2- Settings on you wlan got corrupted.
3- Port settings;one should choose a port with less interuptions
