Pantone colours

Hi All. I have an image which opens in illustrator and has an RGB preview.
I need to print in CMYK, but when I convert the colours add strange percentages to the colour ie 17.65% etc.
The image has a set colour Pantone in a separate sheet, but bares no resemblance to the breakdown colour.
If I put the Pantone colour into Photoshop and Illustrator I get slightly different CMYK breakdowns.
How do I know which program is giving me the correct breakdown and is there a quick way of linking everything up so we are singing off the same hymn sheet?
For instance
Pantone Hexachrome Black M in PS CS5 is C74/M58/Y58/B57
Pantone Hexachrome Black M in iLL CS5 is C1/M1/Y/B100
Have I set something up wrong?
Thanks

This is what you should be doing.
The color settings in both programs should be the same.
the origianl should be converted to cmyk and you should be adding the spot colors once you have converted the image to cmyk. I make a note here you should probably add the spot color in Illustrator. ( id not recall a reason why one would create a shape that requires a spot color that needed to be added to thte image itself the only reason I know that one would use a spot color within an image file is if the it was a monotone, duotone, tritone etc image.
But that is besides the point
you should have the image in CMYK mode once you decide to use it for print and then apply any spot colors to it. Bad idea to do this in RGB and the convert to CMYK.
then you should of course make certain when placing it in Illustrator you are placing it in a CMYK Illustraotr document and make certain it has the same profile as the image. If the color settings are the same then it should be the case but double check.
then things will be as they should be.
But once you have a mismatched profile egtting things to match are not going to be easy so make sure from the start.

  • Pantone colour books missing in Illustrator CC 2014

    Hi,
I am having an issue in Illustrator CC 2014 with a specific Pantone colour book.
The 'Pantone 4-color process guide coated Euro' guide does not show up in the colour books menu. The Pantone colour reference numbers such as DE 35-1 C and DE 156-2 C do not appear in any of the colour books.
Is my Pantone colour guide outdated, or am I missing something?
    Thank you!

Never mind.  I finally just closed Illustrator and opened it back up, and TA-DA! It's back...just more weirdness from an Adobe product...I should have guessed so.

  • How can I get Pantone colours (for example PMS 285) back in CS6 Illustrator?

Pantone colours (for example PMS 285) are not available in CS6 ( Illustrator and Indesign). How can I get the right colours back?

Are you certain they are not available?

  • Illustrator with pantone colour can't show up

I am make some graphic in the Adobe Illustrator CC. I use the graphic with pantone colour and after that i save in the PDF.
Pdf files made in Illustrator have a problem being displayed on mac computers during the preview when the colors are Pantone colors and will show up as black and white.
    I don't know what's the problem...

I have attached a screen shot of what I am referring to. The second one is the box that pops up after clicking on Enter/Submit on a Company page for Contests or even connect to Facebook through any website.

  • Pantone colours in Illustrator have changed

I've opened an old packaging artwork in CC that was originally created in Illustrator CS5 and made design amends. All looks OK, everything behaving as it should.
I then copied and pasted the same artwork into a brand new CC document (as I needed to create a new artwork whilst using the same elements) and the Pantone colours all look much paler. Why is this?
Both document set ups are the same and both set up as CMYK not RGB.
If I paste back the elements from the new artwork to the old, the colours look OK again.
If I convert the Pantones to CMYK the values are different. I can't use CMYK colours as the job needs to be printed as Pantones.

    Peter,
The Pantone to CMYK values (CMYK representations issued/published by Pantone) have changed a few times over the years. What you see on your monitor reflects the CMYK values.
The Pantone inks themselves have not changed.
So you can keep printing as you did, and hopefully live with the changes in on screen appearance.
You may use the same libraries to have things look the same.

  • How do I add the latest Pantone colours in Adobe CC?

Hi all, how do I add the latest Pantone colours in Adobe CC? A customer has asked for Pantone swatches that my latest Pantone libraries just don't have. I can only add CMYK breakdowns in the hope they turn out similar.
I've downloaded and registered my Pantone Plus series of books but this doesn't really help my situation.
Let me know if you can help with this.
    Thanks.

But when I do an "Output Preview" in acrobat I can see that the Illustrator effects has turn the pantone in to proccess colours. Can some one adivce how to work around this issues?
    Kind Regards

Thanks for your quick reply, I have uploaded screen shot showing the process I used to apply the effect.
Also I have uploaded a screen shot showing "seperates preview"
The screen shot below shows the CMYK plate turned off, where you can clears see the shadow and feathering and glow disappears.
Do you know whats causing this?

  • Creative Suite 1 and Pantone Colour Bridge

I've recently bought the Pantone Colour Bridge Fan Deck, registered it and installed the Colour Manager download. Im currently running Creative Suite 1 and a Mac OS X 10.6.8 - except when I export the Pantone colour bridge swatch library and try to open the swatch library in any of my applications I get a error message.
Indesign gives me a pop box that says...
"Cannot create swatch library. There are no swatches in the file "Mactintosh HD:Applications:Adobe InDesign CS:Presets:Swatch Libraries PANTONE+Colour Bridge Coated.acb"
Illustrator gives me a pop box that says...
"The file "PANTONE+ Color Bridg#5DBDB7.acb" is in an unknown format and its styles cannot be imported"
I have tried the "ase" format file too, and that gave me the same result.
Can some one please help me out with this. Is it just that my Creative Suite 1 is just too old and not compatible?
    Many thanks

  • Pantone Colours displaying differently

I am working on a document in InDesign CS5.5, where the Pantone colour used is 7461C (our corporate colour). I have a vector EPS image of some circles that was created before I started, which was a slightly incorrect shade of blue - when it was printed professionally you could see a difference. I've changed the blue of the circles using Illustrator CS6, so that it is also 7461C.
I've just added the circles into the InDesign file and put them next to a box that is 7461C and noticed a slight shade variation (please se image below). I took a screen shot, pasted this into Photoshop CS5.1 to check the colours and the circles are displaying as 7461C, but the actual blue bar is displaying as 2925C, even though both have been set up as the Pantone 7461C, rather than CMYK values or something else.
Is anyone able to help please?

First of all: Why are you using EPS? Don't! Use PDF/X-4 or AI instead.
There is no need to open a placed file with a wrong spot color in InDesign. Open the ink manager and target the wrong spot color to the correct one.
The appearance of a spot color on screen should not bother you as the printer will print it with the specific ink.
Did you check the overprint preview and high quality display in InDesign?
How does it look like, if you export to PDF/X-4?

  • PMS swatch converted to CMYK does not match colour values of Pantone Colour Book

I am working in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6.
When I create a swatch using Pantone colour books (solid coated) and then convert the swatch to CMYK the values differ between programs and also differ to my hard copy of Pantone Colour Bridge.
I have followed the Workaround 1 on http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/pantone-plus.html#main-pars_text_11 which was helpful - now the CMYK values produced in Illustrator and InDesign match HOWEVER they still differ from my hard copy of Pantone Colour Bridge.
I copied the leagacy files from CS4 - is it possible the CMYK values embedded in these files are out of date or is it possible that the CMYK values in the Colour Bridge book have since changed?

Pantone has updated their CMYK match values for PMS colors over time, and so has Adobe.  Adobe and pantone have their own values or matches, so they have never matched.
The values between CS6 Illustrator and InDesign should have matched (atleast the files are named exactly the same), so not sure going back to CS4 swatches wasa a good move for you, unless you have a load of older files you are trying to match.
The biggest differences between updates to the swatch colors you will see in tradeoffs between CMY & K.
If you want your CMYK matches for PMS colors to match your bridge book, you may have to manually make a color book .ase file yourself, or try downloading the pantone color manager. Pantone has made this a complicated, multistep process relying on registering a product. Pantone has a history of failed digital products, and using bait & swtich tactics, so do not trust anything they have to offer anymore, but they were in the right place at the right time and exist as the standard for spot color in the US & some other countries.

There needs to be some support for Pantone Colours or Spot

  • Import AI File Preserve Pantone Colours

    Hi Guys,
I've created a company logo in illustrator.. one of the graphic elements is a ring using the 3d effect based on a circle with a stroke.. the circle's stroke colour that forms the basis of the logo is a pantone green.. If i drag the logo into indesign i can see the black and the pantone green of the logo appear in the spot colours..
if i import the AI file the pantone green is not imported.
I was wondering, would the fact that the 3d effect is in place have anything to do with it? IE would illustrators lighting and shading effect the ability for indesign to represent the green as the shade of pantone green I have selected because the gradient the light and shade creates is different?
any help would be most most appreciated!
please feel free to email me on penny.lane.mini<at>gmail.com would appreciate any assistance!
    Cheers,
    Tom

Use Illustrator’s Overprint Preview command (View menu) to see how the ring will print. Where shading would make the ring darker, Illustrator adds overprinting grey gradations. You can only see the green component of the fill if you turn on Overprint Preview. Same goes for InDesign. Window > Output > Separations Preview is also very helpful. Acrobat Pro has an even more powerful Output Preview mode.
Of course, you are still stuck with the crappy 3D effects in crummy Illustrator and all its quirks.
