Pantone CS6

I have problem between Photoshop CS6 and Corel.
When closing a file. PSD in Photoshop CS6 with Colors Spot (Pantone) and import it into Corel (Independent release), it appears without the pantone. This does not occur if the file is closed in Photoshop CS5 or lower.
any idea?

  • Can not find pantone+ swatches in InDesign CS6, such as 2239c?

How do I find the pantone+ swatches in InDesign CS6, such as 2239c? It is not visible in the swatches panel? Can anyone else see this swatch in Indesign Cs6 or Illustrator Cs6?

From the Swatches panel Flyout menu, choose New swatch.
In the new swatch definition dialog, under Type choose Spot, and under Mode choose Pantone + Solid Coated.
There are some legacy colors that are not included inthe Pantone + series. You can add these to both ID and Illustrator by following the directions in Pantone Plus color libraries (Thanks, Vikrant ).
2239 isn't in my old swatchbooks as a spot color or the legacy books for the program, either. Are you sure that's a vaild number? Perhaps youpi really mean 223-9, a light blue-gray process color? If that's the case, you'd need to specify Process instead of Spot, and choose the appropriate book fromthe mode dropdown. The 223 series seems not be included in the + books, but it is inthe legacy books if you add them according to the instuctions in the link above.

  • Can't type Pantone values in the Color Picker with Ai CS6

    Hi Illustrators,
I'm running Design and Web Premium CS6 on a Windows 7 machine. I was recently using Ai's Recolor Artwork dialogue for a CMYK document. I wanted to convert my 4 color artwork to Pantone solid coated. I decided to chose some different Pantones. In older versions of Illustrator I could easily open the Color Picker, click on a Pantone value and then just type in a new value to scroll to it. This is no longer the case with Ai CS6.
Does anyone know of a work around?

Thanks for getting back. It works on Photoshop CS6 (64bt) but not so with Ai
As long as I'm griping on lost features. Here's another great one that's gone with the CS6 wind...
In the Swatch Options, you used to be able to scroll through the Color Modes by holding Shift and clicking on the square color preview icon. You used to also be able to get the compliment on the fly by holding Control (Windows) / Command (Mac) and clicking on the same icon. Neither feature works anymore.

  • Why can't I find certain Pantone plus colors in Illustrator CS6 color books?

Why can't I find certain Pantone plus colors in Illustrator CS6 color books? For example I want to use PMS 2296C, but it is not coming up in the color swatch book in Illustrator.

    Thanks!
I actually just came across the same thing in the meantime.
    And it worked!
If you bought the physical Pantone books, there is a registration/serial number on the back. You can go to Pantone and register it (https://www.pantone.com/pages/MYP_myPantone/mypProductRegistration.aspx)
Then you're able to download the Pantone manager.
There are infact 336 new colors added to the Pantone Plus series. And this is where you need to get them. Once you have them, in Pantone color manager, you go to: File/Export/Adobe Illustrator/sRB. Then restart Illustrator.
Once you go back in, the new 336 colors are available!

  • Missing Pantone 2171 C in InDesign CS6

Hi, I'm using InDesign CS6 and I can't find Pantone 2171 C in my colour books, do you know why?

Pantone color books change almost every year and some colors are replaced by others. Ask in the ID forum about specific details.

  • Illustrator CS6 / CC and previous Pantone color books

Hi all, I've understood that Illustrator CS6 / CC has the new Pantone+ color books, those color books doesn't have CMYK values so the default of rIllustrator CS6 / CC is to use the Lab values when I add a Pantone swatches to my document.  One of my customers, that is a print industry, need to have the old Pantone with CMYK values to maintain the same color rendition on old and continuative jobs. Adobe says that I can load the old Pantone color books from CS5 and change the swatches option so that Illustrator use the CMYK values: http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/pantone-plus.html  The problem is that this doesn't work for me and for my customer, even if I change the swatches option Illustrator continue to load only the Lab values from the older CS5 Pantone color books... anyone of you has a solution?

I am running into the same issue.  Both links suggested did not work for me.  In a document I created in CS4 (the old document) and opened in CC there is a square with the color Pantone 519U in which it converts to C:67% M:100% Y:30% K:10%.  These are the numbers to be expected.  If I copy the square that is 519U in the old document and paste it in the same old document the color remains the same.
I create a new document in CC (the new document).  From the old document I copy the Pantone 519U square and paste it in the new document.  The resulting square in the new document is a washed out purple.  The new document square converts to C:57.27% M:68.83% Y:35.06% K:13.06%.
Again I followed Workaround 1 in the link.  I obtained the old Pantone Libraries from my CS4 machine so it is not a library issue.  I have also created a new Document Profile where I set the Spot Color to be "Use CMYK values from the manufacturer's process books".  I am seeing the same problem before and after the workaround.

  • Pantone search not working in illustrator CS6

Hello everyone - this issue has been a problem for me in Illustrator CS6 for over a year now.
The Pantone Libray in Illustrator CS6 has a search box, but when I type in certain numbers (541 for example) it takes me to 7541. However, if I look around and manually pick the swatch by hovering (which takes forever and is ridiculous) I find it.
The 541 swatch is there but the search function doesn't work for many numbers. This is an incredible waste of time for me and after many updates and putting up with it for a year, I am at the end of my rope.
What solution would you all suggest short of buying yet another version of Illustrator which I find silly since I already shelled out several thousand dollars for this one and I do NOT want to have to buy new software because there's a bug Adobe refuses to patch.

wow actually that space workaround is still MUCH better than i've been dealing with so far, so thank you! i saw a thread where someone said to type a space beforehand but that doesn't work. you are the first person who's given me any sort of reasonable solution - greatly appreciated!!

  • CS5-CS6 Pantone Color Differences

Hey Everyone. Long time no see. Congratulations to Peter on getting even further forum kudos. At my current rate of forum visiting this is going to be mostly a fansite.
Anywho. I recently put in CS6 on all the machines here at work (commercial printer, 11 macs) and have been hearing quite a bit of mumbles and grumbles on the new color system for spots. This may be an easy fix.
On CS5 my Pantone Solid Coated colors have a completely different CMYK and LAB breakdown from what CS6 is stating. Not only do the colors break down different and have different LAB values, but they look really different. This wigs my sales critters out as well as the designers. They don't like their Reflex Blue looking purple. We have all of our output devices set to nail Reflex Blue, for example regardless of them being large format flatbed, inkjet rollfed, digital press, offset press.
I migrated my Pantone Solid Coated from CS5 and have all the color settings the same in terms of color management and am still getting the breakdown differences. This creates an issue for me with the devices that don't have a horribly great spot library and require CMYK breakdowns they take advantage of (whether naturally doing well with CMYK or doing trickery like Fiery CMYK to CMYK conversions to make the output devices play nice). Even the Pantone+ Reflex Blues don't match between CS5 and CS6.
This is just really confusing for me. We have several ink vendors and they don't use the Pantone+ system for their inks. I don't even know what ink vendors have embraced it. We work with ink vendors varying from #2 and #10 in terms of market dominance, so it isn't a question of us just working with Brand X ink vendors.
    Any clues?
On a non color related note. Am I the only one who found the content collector and content placer tools to be indispensible tools? Every time I look down at the conveyer I say "oh conveyer, how did I live without you?" I unmapped copy and paste and ripped the option key off my keyboard.

I migrated my Pantone Solid Coated from CS5 and have all the color settings the same in terms of color management and am still getting the breakdown differences.
One thing that's different in CS6 is the solid ink libraries are now always Lab definitions. As far as I can tell unchecking the Ink Manger's Use Standard Lab Values for Spots never has any affect. Even if you load the older libraries the CMYK conversions from a solid ink color will be color managed and the CMYK values will change depending on the document's CMYK profile.
If you really need the legacy CMYK breakdowns you might have to use the old PANTONE solid to process.acb library, which is defined as process CMYK and uses the same CMYK builds as the older PANTONE solid coated library.

  • Are pantones 2184C and 2141C available in CS6? How do I get these pantones?

We recently received a new logo to use, and they are calling for Pantones 2184C and 2141C. We do not have this in our CS6, from what I can find. Is there a way to get these in our system?

As John mentions, there is Pantone Color Manager software that updates to the newest swatches and can export to AI (and other applications). I use it as I tend to have to jump to newer swatches from time to time. I think it's something like $49 USD.
Those colors are part of the now not-so-new 336 Pantone+ series.

  • CS5.5 & CS6 Spot to CMYK conversion not matching Pantone + Guide book

    Hey,
I have both cs5.5 & cs6 indesign both of which are giving me different values of cmyk compared against the Pantone + guide, eg if I select pms 173C and convert to cmyk the values are not correct when I check the values in the book is there a way to fix this, other wise it will be highly annoying to have to manually put in the cmyk values for each job when matching spot colours for digital prints. Any help /suggestions or if there is any settings to change?
    Cheers.
    Jack.

In CS6 the Pantone solid libraries are always defined as Lab—as far as I can tell the Ink Manager's Use Standard Lab Values no longer has any effect.
So these libraries are now  defined as Spot colors with Lab definitons–if you convert the spots to process via Ink Manager your document's CMYK profile makes a color managed conversion:
If for some reason you want a predefined CMYK mix (but for what press or device?) there is Color Bridge Coated and Uncoated—those colors are defined as process CMYK. So you could delete PANTONE 173 C and replace it with Color Bridge Coated PANTONE 173 CP.

  • CS6 Pantones show up as labs

I just installed CS6 and am setting up ASE files for our team on our color palette. I have 3 palettes of the same colors: CMYK, Pantone spot, and RGB versions. When I load the spot ASE file, most of the colors show as lab colors rather than PMS spots, while others show as PMS. Am I doing something wrong?
The square icons on the right of the palette show that some are Lab colors. When I open the Options, sometimes it shows PMS, sometimes LAB. When I hover over the color without opening the options, it shows the lab breakdown. I never use Lab colors, so I have no idea how these show up as labs. Help!

Wholesale site and each supplier requires a different menu and lay out.

  • CS6 Pantone Plus Library Issues

We are having problems maintaining color consistency for digital output (as well as color shifts on proofs) due to the recent CS6 Pantone Plus color library update.
We have had to remove the updated libraries and replace them with the previous versions due to the unexpected color differences on output.
Has anyone else been having problems with the Plus update?
Is there a good explanation of why it was changed in the first place? We want to make sure we're not missing a good reason for the revised color libraries.
    Chuck

    Hi Guys,
I've read through this whole forum and I have found a solution to everyones problem. It is a work around but will save everyone alot of time and hassle and so far it hasn't let me down.
First step: Following the instructions as per the adobe page http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/pantone-plus.htm for replacing the colour books. Make sure you follow all of the instructions for defaulting the setting in Illustrator CS6 to use only CMYK breakdowns (this is very very important) This will fix your problem in Illustrator however you will still notice that importing any artwork into indesign, the Pantone colours will still load as LAB versions (despite having deleted the Pantone+ swatches from your library)
NOTE: you will find that if you load old artwork files it WILL load your desired CMYK versions of any pantones correctly. However when you add new swatches it loads these as lab breakdowns. WHICH IS WHAT WE ALL WANT TO GO AWAY TO PROVIDE CONSISTENCY WITH PREVIOUS CLIENTS.
IMPORTANT INFO: Once a correct CMYK verions of a pantone has be imported into an Indesign document you CANNOT load the same pantone reference colour AGAIN. Meanding it is impossible to have a Pantone 282 C (CMYK) and Pantone 282 C (lab)... only one colour profile can be in a document. So basically if you pre-load all of the pantones as CMYK, Indesign is prohibited from STUPIDLY loading lab values of Pantones swatches:
    SO.....
Step Two: (ensuring you have defaulted Illustrator in step1 correctly as per instructions from Adobe)... open Illutrator CS6. Create a new document. Click your swatches tab and clear it of all swatches so it is empty. Click OPEN SWATCH LIBRARY. click COLOUR BOOKS.  Navigate to the swatch Library you require, (for me a mainly use PANTONE solid coated) NOT PANTONE+ ) however since you have followed the steps in step 1 these will not appear in your list as you have deleted all of the pantone + library. ( you can repeat this for as many colour books as required. When the swatched table opens, click the first swatch colour, hold shift key and the click the very last swatch colour and drag these into your swatch panel. Your will now have the complete colour book all defined as Pantone/spot colour/ with a correct(traditional) CMYK value. Now go to "save swatch library as ASE..."within the swatch dropdown menu. And save this somewhere permanent.
Step Three: Open Indesign CS6. Do not open a document. Go to your swatches tab. Click 'LOAD SWATCHES' and open your saved ASE file you made in Illustraor CS6. This will now load the full PANTONE colour library into your swatches tab. Remember as we said before that Indesign will NOT allow you to open two versions of the same pnatone reference, so no matter what file you open, as long as it has a pantone reference, lab or cmyk versions, because they are now already loaded into the swatch library, Indesign will force the conversion to ONLY BE CMYK values of your required Pantone references and IT WILL NOT default to lab values for Pantone colours.
If required. When you have finished your artwork, select, "select all unused" and then delete the ones you don't need.
WARNING: if you delete anything you have imported into your swatch library from your created ASE file... i.e. Pantone 282C.... when you manually add it back again inside Indesign it will default back to the undesired LAB breakdown of the Pantone.
Hopefully this cures a few headaches, so you can all get back to work and enjoy what are some great benefits of using CS6 versions.
On my final note, I do understand why Adobe is trying to force this change. It IS an improvement. However it does require that everyone in your company follows suit, it also requires that you explain this to each of your clients and it does mean changing colours and work flows, which is a decision of individual companies NOT the decision of Adobe to make it for you, which I think is a bad move on there part to try and FORCE this change.

  • CMYK/Pantone differences between CS3 and CS6

I have a file that was created in CS3.  Pantone 534 C was used and the CMYK value that was shown was 100, 80, 30, 5.  When I open the file in CS6 and choose Pantone 534 C, the CMYK value is shown as 98, 85, 36, 27.  Am I going to get the same tone of blue when I print the file from the CS6 version as I did when I printed the file from the CS3 version?
In essence, is the PMS tone that was in CS3 the same PMS tone that is in CS6?  I'm assuming it is, but wanted to confirm.  And can anyone explain why the CMYK values have changed between the two versions if I'm using the same PMS number?

    J,
My problem is, which CMYK values should I use to most closely match the Pantone 534C color?  Should I use the CMYK values in CS3 or CS6 (because they are different numbers)?
I believe someone from Pantone would vote for CS6 because they have changed the values to more closely match the solid colours.
But the proof of the pudding is the eating, so you should try both and see what you think.
Some solid Pantone inks are impossible to match closely with CMYK, and who says that the closer match (by the parameters chosen) is the better/prettier/nicer colour?

  • Incorrect Process builds Pantone Color tables in INDD CS6 and CC.

Why are the Pantone Color tables/libraries in INDD CS6 and CC giving the incorrect process builds?

I did just that in CS 5.5 and I received a different build. I got 100C,84.22M,41.89Y and 50.43K this is different than the builds I was getting before and matches neither.
If you want the legacy definitions you have to follow the directions in the link in Peter's #1 post—delete the new PANTONE + spot libraries, install the old libraries and uncheck Use Standard Lab Values for Spots.
They also provided their brand sheet and neither of these match the readings from Illustartor or InDesign.
If you don't want color managed conversions of spot colors Pantone now provides CMYK simulation libraries—PANTONE + Color Bridge. Those colors are process and will attempt to simulate solid spot colors but for one assumed press profile. Color Bridge builds are still different from the legacy CMYK builds.
