  • Loading Pantone Library

Is there a good way to load a pantone, or a portion of a pantone library into your swatches pallete in INdesign cs5? I found how to add indvidual colors but if I could I would like to add more of the library to my swatches pallete.
In a realted issue I was wondering why some pantone colors I can'tsearch for in the "swatch name" search field. For example you cant search for reflex blue or cool grey 7. Once I find those colors on the list the "swatch names" field will show thier name or a number. However you cant manually put those names or numbers into that field to find those colors. Does any one know why this might be? Is there a good work around or I am going about this wrong?

Try this zip archive, which includes Pantone Solid color library charts.

  • "Library information could not be updated" message?

When starting up Labview 2012 (dev suite) and opening a project, I am getting a message that says "Library information could not be updated." in a dialog with an OK button.  I click OK, and everything runs fine.  I have two questions...1) how can I make this stop showing up and 2) what happened to make it do this?

The only time I have seen this problem is when I try to delete from a project a file that LV thinks has been modified, but which doesn't exist anymore on disk.

  • Some pantone colors (eg P2172) are missing from my Pantone library +

Hello, some pantone colors (eg P2172) in my Pantone Library "Pantone+ solid coated" are missing. Does anyone know if there is way to upgrade its libraries because I know that these are new colors Pantone. Thank you for help.

Just to be clear; once you downloaded and installed the Color Manager, did you then update your color book? (it is a separate step) And if so, are you sure you updated THAT book? (a problem I had when I first got the program -- I inadvertently updated almost every book EXCEPT the one I needed).
Edit to add: And that you updated it for Illustrator. (instead of InDesign or Photoshop)

  • Pantone Library Update

Does anyone know how to update the Pantone Library to include the 336 new colors that Pantone just announced? http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone.aspx?pg=20873&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eb20120424 (I'm sure it will be in CS6, but I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon since I just got CS5) Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Pantone Library Updating

Since Pantone has started changing color values and adding new swatch books to expand their products (and add additional revenue streams), I’m finding that it’s rather difficult to update our libraries in Adobe Creative Suite applications.
This all started with the dramatic and unexpected color value conversion (RGB to LAB) from earlier versions of CS to CS5 (or CS5.5). Adobe and Pantone kept these changes under wraps and didn’t formally announce anything, not even after the changes caused havoc throughout the community.
Now it seems as though Adobe give you an older base set of Pantone colors and relies on you to invest in Pantone products to get the Pantone Color Manager software to update your libraries. I work within an advertising agency and we use many of the Pantone swatch books. Constant changes by Pantone makes it difficult for us (hundreds of users) to update our libraries. I’m currently working on these updated changes and have some questions regarding the process.
I’ve downloaded Pantone Color Manager, registered and “activated” the software. I see how to select various Pantone libraries by the “Fan Deck” option and how to “save as” that particular library. I am however, presented with many options when exporting each library and I’m not sure which to pick.
If I look into each of the Adobe Application folders and drill down to the swatch library location, each Adobe application has a different file type or additional libraries that resides in its folder. Illustrator uses ACB (Adobe Color Book) files while Photoshop has both ACB and ACO (Adobe Color). And to complicate matters more, Pantone Color Manager has selectable options for different color spaces when exporting each library. Do I select the “Lab (D50/2)”, “Lab (D65/2)” or “sRGB (D65/2)”?
The agency does digital, print and video work, so to define a particular color (D) value based on one might seem wrong since we handle 3 different mediums in which those values should be different. But then at the same time, do I download all available options and have the user select which libraries they should be using? I honestly don’t believe all our users know the differences in color temperature variances, it would only confuse them.
This is a discussion for another time, but why can’t Adobe and Pantone work more closely together to update these libraries (and include all the optional libraries) with periodic Adobe updates. It seems like there are a lot of hoops I have to go through to get updated libraries. I actually know the answer to this as a Pantone representative responded to me on this topic, but I’ll keep this posting nice.
So, back to questions I have:
How do I export these libraries for maximum compatibility between all mediums (print, digital, video)? ACO, ACB, ASE, CXF, CLR, ICC, LAB, sRGB, CMYK (Color Bridge), D50, D65?
Do I replace the libraries that already exist in the adobe application swatch folder? Or, Do I piece only newer ones?
Do I create a “Legacy” folder and keep the old libraries due to Pantone retiring colors that are still in use or used in legacy work?
How do I export the various libraries that Pantone has retired and will not allow me to export out of it’s software? They should create an “Archive” of retired libraries but still allow users to download them. To assume all print shops no longer have those inks and that professionals don’t have files/work that use them is wrong.
We are using CS6 currently, so any updates I do now I would probably have to be repeated for CC?
So many issues and questions. Sorry for the lengthy posting and thank you if you stuck in there to read all this.

While not all my questions were addressed, Pantone did responded to my initial web inquiry. I still have questions regarding Light settings (D50/D65), mass deployment, installation location (file path distribution vs user file loading), retention of older/previous libraries and CS6 vs CC library updating.
For those of you reading this that are not familiar with the "Pantone Color Manager" software that is referenced below, it is a Pantone application that contains all their current color swatches/books. This software is free for those who buy their printed books (via serial number in book). Others must pay $49 to download their software and update Adobe Pantone libraries. In my opinion, this software should be free since Adobe software users already use the Pantone swatches that are installed by default. This is probably why these updates are NOT being pushed via Adobe software updates; not because Pantone and Adobe's deployment schedules conflict (as Pantone mentioned to me). Note that once Pantone discontinues a book or color, it is no longer exportable via this software. You may want to keep a backup of all your default swatches prior to any updating if you may be using older inks/swatches/values.
    This is Pantone's response:
How can I share PANTONE Color Manager libraries with others?
While PANTONE Color Manager is single-user, the PANTONE libraries may be shared with other users without license restriction. To do this, do the following:
    Launch PANTONE Color Manager software
Open the desired library you wish to share
Go to File/Save As to open the Save As dialog
    Choose ‘Desktop’ as your location
Choose the appropriate ‘file type’ for your application:
.ase – Adobe Swatch Exchange – for Illustrator and InDesign
.aco – Adobe Color Order – for Photoshop swatch list
.acb – Adobe Color Book – for use with Adobe Color Picker within Photoshop
Click ‘save’ or ‘export’ depending on your version of PANTONE Color Manager
The file is saved to your desktop. From here, you can e-mail it to individual users or post it to a shared network folder for all to access.
To import the colors, do the following:
    Adobe Illustrator
    1. Go to Window/Swatch Libraries/Other Library
    2. Navigate to the desired .ase file and open it.
    Adobe InDesign
    1. Go to Swatches/New Color Swatch
    2. Go to Color Mode/Other Library
    3. Navigate to the desired .ase library and open it.
    Adobe Photoshop – Swatches Palette
    1. Go to Window/Swatches
    2. Click the arrow on the Swatches palette and select Load Swatches
    3. Navigate to the desired .aco file and open it.

  • Why is FrameMaker using different CYMK/RGB values for Pantone library colours compared with Illustrator?

    Evening all -
this is by no means the first time I'm banged my head against the colour management brick wall, and I doubt it will be the last
I am running Frame 12 and Illustrator CC on Windows 7.
Both these Adobe products ship bundled with Pantone libraries. (Correct me with I'm wrong, but these "libraries" are basically a bunch of look-up tables, mapping named Pantone colours to various CYMK, RGB, etc equivalents?)
Can anyone tell me why these two different Adobe applications appear to give different definitions for the same Pantone colours?
For example, if I choose the Pantone Coated library > 'Warm Red'
In Illustrator CC (left screenshot), it offers this as C0% M87.4% Y79.9% K0%
    in FrameMaker 12 (right screenshot), I get C0% M79%  Y91%  K0%
    Why are they different?
Are the library definitions shipped with the products simply different?
    Frame's dialog ominously mentions "© Pantone, Inc., 1986, 1988"
And if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker12\fminit\color and open the corresponding .bcf file in an editor, the header says:
"BCF 2.0PANTONE¨ Coated 1.1 ©Pantone, Inc., 1986, 1988.PANTONE¨* Computer Video simulations displayed may not match PANTONE-identified solid color standards.  Use current PANTONE Color Reference Manuals for accurate color.  To order publications from Pantone, Inc., in the U.S. please call the toll-free number (800) 222-1149 [within NJ, call (201) 935-5500].  In other countries contact your local Pantone representative.  *Pantone, Inc.'s check-standard trademark for color.[1]"
whereas if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books and open the corresponding .acb swatch file in there, in amoungst the hex gibberish I note it says:
    "=$$$/colorbook/PantonePlusCoated/title=PANTONE+^R Solid Coated/$$$/colorbook/PantonePlusCoated/prefix=PANTONE *$$$/colorbook/PantonePlusCoated/postfix= CK"$$$/colorbook/PantonePlusCoated/description=Copyright^C Pantone LLC, 2010"
Have Pantone perhaps changed their colour definitions between 1988 and 2010?
(I'm thinking it would be sensible to establish this one way or the other before we get into any convoluted discussions about the Windows GDI etc etc)

    David,
What options did you use for defining the colours internally and what options for output in AI? I suspect that if you examine the EPS file you created from AI for the Panotne 355C, the only values in there are the CMYK ones - no LAB nor RGB. So FM has to use the algorithm mentioned in the other thread and creates the lime green based upon the algorithm. If you have set the AI drawing to an RGB color mode and set the EPS export option for "Include CMYK Postscript in RGB files" to OFF, then you would get the desired RGB values in the EPS file.
If you're so intent on using Pantone Spot colours to get RGB, then you can create your own ACF library file with the exact RGB definitions that you want (you can then use whatever values you get in Photoshop, Illustrator or whatever source that you're trying to match). The structure of the file is as follows:
    ACF 1.0
My Color Library             <----  name of library
    LibraryVersion: 1.0
    Copyright: © 2014 <your name here>. All rights reserved.
AboutMessage: User defined Spot colours for RGB
    Names: Partial
    Rows: 4
    Columns: 4
Entries: 1           <---- number of colours in file
Prefix:         <---- used for display in FM, e.g. "Panotne"
Suffix:           <----- used together with prefix, e.g. "CVC, CVU, etc."
Type: Process <---- Spot, Process, Tint, Mixed (need to add specifier to Data lines)
    Models: CMYK RGB
PreferredModel: RGB     <---- whatever you want
    Data:
    0.98 0.11 1.00 0.02              <---- CMYK values (0-1)
    0 38143 19967     <---- RGB values as 16-bit, i.e. 16-bit = ( [RGB value (1-255)]*256) + 255; zero is still zero
Spruce Green                   <---- name of colour
The acf file needs to be installed in the fminit\color folder.
Also, a note of caution, If you screw something up in the acf file (like the incorrect number of entries in the file or you're missing a component value, this will hang FM if you use the View > Color > Definitions... option. You'll need to kill FM, fix or remove the ACF file and re-start. Also, FM only reads the libraries at the start, so if you need to make any changes to the ACF definitions, you have to r-start FM for those changes to take place.
[I know, FM doesn't make it easy, but it can be done...]

  • Lost pantone library?

Illustrator CS2 suddenly stopped launching.  Cannot find disk and Adobe won't help. Switched to Illustrator 10 to work. Suddenly unable to find Pantone swatches in Illustrator 10. No drop down menu for swatch library. Tried to upgrade CS2 but computer does not have new intel processor. Ultimately I would like to have my CS2 back but will settle for Pantones.  I'm running into walls. Help?

    Ann,
You may try a search for Pantone and see where they may hide. The files are AI files.
On a Win machine they should be in:
    C>Program Files>Illustrator 10>Presets>Swatches along with Default_Cmyk and Default_RGB,
apart from the Pre-2000 versions which should be in:
    C>Program Files>Illustrator 10>Presets>Pantone Libraries pre-2000
I am not sure about a Mac; you may see where the Default_Cmyk and Default_RGB.
If you can find them, you can move them to the right folder.
You cannot find them as separate files on the disk, unfortunately.

  • Editing iPhoto library information

I see that the AlbumData.xml file in my iPhoto Library contains all kinds of very useful information that I can "mine" via other programs that read XML. Is it possible, however, to alter the iPhoto Library by editing either that or some other file? For example, I have scans of many old family photos whose names include the people in the photo. I would like to create albums (smart or otherwise) that would give me access to all photos including a certain person. Is there a way to do this programmatically, so I can avoid creating dozens of albums by hand?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    psz:
Just duplicate that smart album and edit it to change the one family member name to the new one. I've looked at that file and the time it would take to edit it to do what you want would probably be much longer than creating a smart album or editing an existing one.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Exporting Library Information

Is it possible to export information from an itunes library including artist, albums, etc. I would like to put this info in an excel file. My goal is to keep my library on my home PC up to date with the library on my mac. Obviously if I purchase music from itunes, I can just pull it off my ipod to transfer it to the other computer. I am looking at songs I rip from CD's and purchase else where. If there is an easy way to export the info, I would make it very easy to compare the two libraries and see which songs need to be transferred to which computer. Thanks for your help

    Hi Derek123,
There are two ways to create an info list.
First: *Click File -> Export* and choose .txt as the file type. Actually I don't think this method will make you happy, once the file has all the info so disorganized that is rally useless.
Second: *Click File -> Print* and choose Song List. Tis method will allow to print a complete library list.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I separate the family's Apple ID account library information from our central iTunes account?

When there was only one iPhone and one iPod Touch in the house, an iTunes account was opened and music, movies and other library content was stored and accessed readily for each device.
A second iPhone was introduced and we managed OK by using Music Playlists using the second iPhone on the same Apple ID.
The third phone came along, and since trying to manage that extra account - which included setting up additional Apple IDs (and the wretched iCloud), we have had nothing but issues!
Now I am thinking that I need to have separate iTunes accounts for each person with devices (we now have three iPhones and two iPads reliant on these accounts) - but want to be able to transfer items from the existing account to the individual accounts. That would be a satisfactory solution for most of the data we have stored - but we would still like to be able to refer to a common library.
Apple Care (or should that be 'don't Care') and the guys in the local Apple Store are of no help whatever - the latter referring me to a forum. Apple don't seem too keen to provide actual assistance in my situation. Can anybody help with this matter? - and how will I know if anybody answers this?

    On your iOS device:
Settings > Music > turn Show ALl Music off
This will hide purchases that are not locally on your device.
In iTunes create a Playlist with just your music and sync only that playlist.

  • Is it possible to transfer library information such as play counts, ratings

I've learned how to transfer my music files to a new PC, but is it possible to also transfer library info such as play counts and ratings? I am moving my music from an old XP system to a Vista system. I would like to keep all my play counts, ratings etc if possible. I believe I can copy the library file but will it be a problem if the path is different (in XP it's My Documents/My Music where in Vista it's Documents/Music without the "My"). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are numerous posts about this in the forum. Here is an Apple article decribing how to do it using an iPod, but the method is essentially the same using an external HD.

It is generally better to start your own topic, rather than respond to an old post like this. The original poster is unlikely to be around after so long.

    Hi.
I have this problem in itunes 11.
I've added a couple of movies to my Itunes 11 Library and added subtitles for the movies using Isubtitle.
The first of about 10 movies shows info about the title aswell as: resume, genre, producers, actors, directors, & the year of release.
While the next 9 movies only shows: Title, genre, resume, and year of release.. What happened to the info about the actors and directors?
I did the same process as with the first one: Adding subtitles aswell as adding the info about the movie from Isubtitle.
Is there anyway that i can add it myself in Itunes 11?
