Paper Source by Page Size

I often print documents on letter or legal size paper. I'm currently switching my office over from Windows based products (and Acrobat 9 Standard) to Mac, and upgraded to the newest Acrobat as well.
When printing, I've noticed that the printer defaults to letter size documents for every PDF, even if the PDF is on legal paper. There is no option to select paper source by page size when printing.
However, for each document, I can go to Properties > Advanced, and there's an option for "Paper Source by Page Size." However, this only applies to the current document, and not future documents.
Am I missing something here? Why can't I default to select the paper source by page size? This was an option in Windows and Acrobat 9, so is this feature actually gone now?

Hi Andrew,
Apple made some pretty significant changes to the way that printers function when they released 10.6.
The setting you're looking for is completely controlled by the OS.
Choose Apple > System Preferences > Print & Fax.
Click on your printer and use the drop-down menu to change the default page size for your printer.

  • Paper source by page size not doing the trick

We are using Acrobat X on Windows 7.
Are there printing presets that allow for 8.5x11 to print as is, but limits larger pages to 11x17?
We have to deliver large PDFs to a commercial printer (so we'd like to save presets to file) for them to print a "book" for us.  The pages we have compiled are of various sizes:  8.5 x 11, 11 x 17, 23 x 24, etc.
Our printer has 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 paper only, and so we'd like to limit the largest pages in our PDF to 11 x 17.  When we use Paper source by page size preset, the 23 x 24's throw an error -- they want A4 paper.
    We don't want to scale the 8.x5 x 11's up to 11 x 17.
    Is there a solution?

I have over 500 pdf files. How can I batch set "Paper Source by Page Size" in Print Dialog Preset for these files.

  • Reader 9- Cant seem to keep ' Choose paper by PDF Page Size' uncheck -online doc

We have been looking at this for a long time.  If a certain posted doc gets printed and the Choose paper by PDF Page Size is checked, it breaks the users profile.  We have made that change on the doc before posting it but users still have the issue.  Also we have had users make the change locally but it doesnt 'keep' the setting.
Is there a way (GP or script) to force at the user session level?
This has been killing us for months.  My searches didnt yield any solutions either....

In order to get help you need to provide more detail about your settings. Perhaps the margins for the paper size you have chosen have print margins that leave a smaller print area than you think. In combination with this is there some sort of "scale to fit" set somewhere?
So what size paper are you printing to, and what is your document page size in Acrobat 7? I have the same printer and may be able to help if you provide more detail.

  • Trouble accessing Paper Source in page settings db for Epson printer

I am trying to print on an Epson 7600 using a sheet of paper, but the default settings are for roll paper. I see the setting in the page attributes of the print dialog box, but cannot find a way to change it. I've tried the page setup (where it is supposed to be), the printer setup (no option available at all), and have followed every button option of every window. It is the same for apple Mail program as CS2, so I think it is a printer db problem, not photoshop.
ps, my epson C84 works fine... it is the 7600 default settings that are not accessable-
HELP! and thanks for you help-

my problem is now solved.  I got with Epson support.  We had to remove the printer from the printers/scanners in the Preferences section of the iMac HD after unplugging the usb cable. Then, we went to the disc utility in Applications folder and performed a disc repair.  After that we connected the printer, rebooted,  opened PE12/LR4.4 and, voila, the paper source and media type now contained the appropriate info.  Something was not right in my system, one of those mysteries.

  • HP laserjet 400 M401 dne will not work with Word 2010 paper source other pages

HP laserjet 400 M401 dne connected via USB to Dell 980 with Windows 8.1 (64 bit) using HP laserjet 400M401 PCL 6 class driver. In Word 2010 Go to print settings and paper tab.  The printer has two trays set first page  option to one tray and "other pages" to the other tray and it will always print all pages to the first page option.  All paper tray settings on the printer to automatic and letter and plain.  If set the printer setting to tray 2 and the word setting for other pages to tray 1 that does not help either. Unable to find a setting scenario where the other pages will print to another tray.

    Hi Travis,
This sounds more like a Graphic Driver or Graphics Card problem. You might try switching out the Graphic Card if that is possible on the system.
Another outside possibility might be a corrupt user profile, so you could create a different profile on the machine and try it. However, my guess would be the Graphics Card is failing.
Are you also certain there are no other Office add-ins loaded that might be causing this. Start Word in Safe Mode and see if this clears the problem. If it does, then systematically disable add-ins one at a time until the culprit is found.
    Hope this helps

  • Sharing Page Sizes Throughout the Company

    Hello,
I would like to implement a more efficient way of setting up page sizes for new employees here at my firm.  We don't use the standard page sizes because they are in portrait orientation.  For example, instead of using ARCH B for 12"x18", we use a custom page size called "18in x 12in" that is 18" x 12" (landscape).  We plot using AutoCAD.
Currently, we have to manually setup every new employee with the page sizes.  In most cases, this never gets done and then they come asking how to get a new size.  Is there a way to avoid all of this.  Perhaps by making a copy of the file that stores these page sizes on the local hard drive and saving it to the server?  I can't figure out which file has this information, let alone where it is located.  There has to be a way of doing this.  Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Brett

My screen shot is from AA9, and I have seen that the UI for AAX is vastly different, but...
Choose Paper Source from Page Size should be the "one-touch" solution your looking for.
In my test, my Konica-Minolta Bizhub failed to detect the proper paper trays, but Acrobat correctly spooled the pages.

  • Different page sizes in one pdf file will not scale to print correctly

    Hello all,
I have a pdf document that contains three different page sizes; 8.5"x11", 11"x17" and 34"x22".  These pdf files are custom manuals and we print many of these over the course of a month.
In the older versions of Adobe Acrobat when printing this type of file, I could click print, select the page setup size to 11"x17", then select shrink oversize pages (or fit, depending), and choose paper by pdf page size and I would get the following pages from the printer - 8.5"x11" page would print on a 8.5"x11" paper, 11"x17" on 11"x17" and (most importantly) 34"x22" on 11"x17".  We do this because our printer does not have paper larger than 11"x17" yet the customer also receives a soft copy of the file and many times prints the large pages full size as needed on their large format plotters.
With the newer versions of Acrobat, this will not work.  The only way these files will print automatically is to scale the 22"x34" down to 8.5"x11".   Why would I want to scale it smaller than my largest available paper size?  Also, all of the 11"x17" pages in a multi page size document will come out of the printer rotated 180° yet Adobe shows them correctly when the file is opened.
Also, when I use the settings above, the print preview box shows the document correctly!  The HP technicians have the latest drivers installed and they have shown me where it seems that Adobe is not even sending the larger sheets but instead stops the printing process with an error.  So I try to send a 20 page document but Adobe stops at the first 22x34 page.
We have now lost our old computers with every last old version of Acrobat that I could use to make this work due to mandatory hardware and OS upgrades.  I must find a way to print these documents without individually selecting different pages to print and then trying to assemble the document afterward.
How do I preserve the pages sizes in my document and print the large pages scaled down to the largest paper size I have available in my printer?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Ajlan,
Thank you for your time.  I am still having the issue.  I am using Adobe reader 11.0.09 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.12.  Neither one have the option in the print menu that you show for a physical printer.  They only offer that option for an Adobe PDF creation driver.
It seems as though the printer you have selected in your menu is only for creating a pdf.  I need to physically print the pdf.  Do you have this same option when you select a physical printer?

  • Adobe Reader 11 "choose paper source by pdf page size" does not work

    Hello,
I have a user that utilizes the "choose paper source by pdf page size" option when printing a PDFs. He has a PDF that has a letter sized page and a legal sized page.
I recently upgraded his Adobe Reader from 10 to 11 and now that option isn't working for him. The printer is an HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP.
Are their any bugs regarding that feature in the new Adobe Reader?
    Thanks!

If you have not updated Acrobat, try that before you go further. Currently AA9 is at 9.5.1.

  • Selecting "choose paper source by pdf page size" causes page to print as mirror image thumbnail

Printing from acrobat reader 9.3.4 to a bizhub C220 printer/copier using the postscript driver in XP sp3. when you select "choose paper source by pdf page size" the document prints mirror image as a tiny thumbnail in the corner of the page? We have replicated the problem with different computers and other copier/printers. This does not occur when using the PCL driver. Any ideas?

Do you not get any options after you have selected print
then select Print using System dialogue
which then opend another box , where I select Layout
and can select how I want the document printed.
As you can see I do use an Epson Printer though, but this is the way when using Mac OSX

  • Acrobat 9 "Choose paper Source by PDF page size" prints as thumbnail

I have a customer who is trying to print a document that has different page sizes, eg. p.1 is 8 x 11, p.2 is 11 x 17. He can select the page size manually and everything works as expected. If you put a check mark in "Choose paper Source by PDF page size" it prints as backward thumbnails on 8 x 11. Selecting "print as image" makes it fill the page, but only prints on 8 x 11. Changing the printer driver to PCL did not fix, nor did installing an updated PS driver. All updates have been installed. I called tech support and they basically just gave me link to the script they use during troubleshooting. I also did a google search, but haven't come up with a valid answer. It is Acrobat 9 Standard on Win XP. Any advice is good advice.

    Hi heathers,
You would need to print the file to a new PDF with the appropriate page size.

  • Xerox 7830 fails to obey "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro -- Adobe issue or Xerox issue? Workaround?

Our former office printer (Xerox 7345) had no problem with this. But the new Xerox 7830 fails to obey the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro. Even the "Page Setup" is overridden by the Xerox printer driver. It is extremely annoying to have to go into the Xerox driver dialog every time, regardless of that check in the box and the correct dimensions being displayed in the picture.....

Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier.
