Paper Tray Size

Hi,
I have got a HP PSC 2179 and im trying to print onto paper 20cm wide and 140cm long.
All set up in CS3 fine but when printing says it isn't supported in the paper tray size, is there any way to get round this so i can print the length i want to print?
Thanks,
Andrew.

I'm not familiar with your particular model of printer, but with many of the current generation of LaserJet printers:
The tray is not large enough for Legal size paper unless it is extended, by pressing the appropriate release lever and pulling the front of the tray to extend it.
Once extended, the tray is larger than the base into which it slides, so the front will project from this by several centimetres.

  • Different Queues for each paper tray

Our customers wish to simply have to select a printer without selecting additional tray outputs (ok, it´s not myself , its a customer of mine, a lacy one).
Is there a way to add separate printer queues for each tray? E.g. "Printer Tray1 - white paper" and "Printer Tray2 - preprinted"...
Then the employees only have to select the one or other printer, the remaining process will be done automatically.
    Thanks for your tipps.

If you go to the CUPS web interface you can set the default paper tray/size etc for the printer:
    http://127.0.0.1:631
Click the "Printers" section at the top of the page, scroll down to the printer you want to set up, then click "Configure printer" - you see all the options applicable to the printer.
I've used this to automate print routines, and it works perfectly.
Just set up multiple "virtual" printers for the same device with different settings for paper tray/size.
You will need to do this on the local machine, and have an admin password.

  • Print crystal report in A5 paper tray

    Dear Experts,
    I am using VB.NET
We have different printers like "Lexmark Optra T612_DB", "HP Universal Printing PCL 5 (v4.7)", etc., in the network, there will be 2 or more trays for each printer. One of the tray has A5 paper in it. While printing Crystal report,
    1. How to find in which tray A5 paper is present?
    2. How to select A5 paper tray for printing?
If the above 2 are not possible with crystal report object:
    1. How to print crystal report using PrintDocument object?
    2. How to find in which tray A5 paper is present using PrintDocument object?
    3. How to select A5 paper tray for printing? using PrintDocument object?
Currently with the following lines of .NET code, it is always printing in Tray 2
    report.PrintOptions.PaperSize = PaperSize.PaperA5;
    report.PrintOptions.PaperOrientation = PaperOrientation.Landscape;
    Regards,
    Eswar

Unfortunately, it will be up to you to find out what tray the correct paper size is in, then set that to the report. The CR APIs do not look up these values, they just expect you to know these and set them.

  • HT4356 I have just updated my Epson printer to one which supports air print but consider it to be a waste of money as my printer has two paper trays and there is option to choose which try...just "print"  How can I print photos via AirPrint from photo  tr

    Hi,
First-timer on this...Just updated my printer which was less than one year old, to one which had Air Print capabilities. This one is the Epson XP605 which has two trays, one being for photos. Each time I tried to Air Print a photo, it printed from the A4 plain paper tray instead of the Photo Tray.Twice...then I came into my study and changed the printer settings to Tray 1 (photo tray) Photo paper, size 5x7 and  Photo Best, but still it printed on plain A 4 paper. Would be most grateful for any help, although I did read on one Apple site that AirPrint may not be able to choose trays!!!! "may not"??  Thanks

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • How can I print from my ipad to the plain paper tray not the photo tray?

    I have a new
    HP Photosmart Plus All-in-One Printer - B209a
and an ipad on my showroom floor.
I let my customers use the ipad to browse through photos of items that are not on display, then print some of the photos. Right now the print job always goes to the photo tray - but I want it to print on plain letter size paper.  If there is no photo paper in the tray, the print job fails with an out of paper error.
Is there a way to get this printer to print photos from the ipad photos app onto the standard paper tray?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me.
    Richard

Photos will always print from the photo tray, if the printer has one. This cannot be configured by the user currently.

  • My Canon MX922 printer has stopped printing because it says the paper tray is empty. Tray is full.

My Canon MX922 printer has all of a sudden stopped printing and I'm getting the error message that the paper tray is empty. The tray is full. I've removed and replaced several times. I've loaded the top feeder as well in case for some reason it was trying to pull from there. I've shut down and restarted several times as well, to no avail. I work from home and this is my own business so it's vital I have a working printer. Any suggestions as to what the problem is or is the printer shot? I've probably had it just over a year.

    Hi nicolej31,
You will want to ensure that there aren't any obstructions in the paper feed path that may be causing the paper not to feed and be recognized by the printer.  With a flashlight or other bright light, please check the paper feed areas of the printer to ensure no obstructions exist.  Once this has been done, please perform a roller cleaning on the unit by following the steps located here.
You will also want to ensure that the paper type and size selected in the printer driver is applicable to the cassette tray that you are trying to print from.  For information on which paper sizes and types to load in each cassette tray, please click here.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Fred of Texas,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your Printing Preferences may be stuck.
Paper Size and Media Type are selected in Printing Preferences:

Select Paper Source > as desired / required by printer model
Select Paper Size > as desired / required for the print job
Select Media > as desired / required for the print job

You might try opening the Photo image in Windows Photo Viewer -- the program comes with most flavors of Windows.
Once you open the photo in Windows Photo Viewer, select to print it and then pick your options.
Note that the "fit picture to frame" is NOT checked!
You can use the following example:

  • Built-in Fax and printing to default paper tray

    Gentleones,
I have a HP LJ1320n which is connected to my iMac. The problem is that incoming faxes, when printed, cause the printer to request paper and the only way to make the printer continue is to go press the green button on the printer.
I cannot find anything anywhere which would allow me to tell the built-in faxing capability of 10.4.10 the default paper tray or page size. None of the options in printer setup affect the behavior. It always makes me press the green button.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

  • LaserJet 1320nw: Selecting an alternate paper tray programmatically

    Howdy, y'all,
My question is more about coding than printer administration, but I thought that I'd begin by asking at this forum.
I'm working on the enhancement of an older client-server app that prints three copies of an invoice on color-coded paper. One of the users would like to keep the multi-colored sheets in the lower paper tray. Other users may run the same invoice listing on other HP LaserJets. If the <Esc> sequence that I send to the printer to select the lower tray is received by a LaserJet printer without a lower tray, what will the printer do?
I've read the PCL 5 Tech Ref, and in the Programming Hints section, HP writes that "if ... commands are not supported by the PCL device, they are ignored." Does that mean that printer will still print from the default tray if there's no alternate tray?
    Thanks kindly.
    André in SoCal, USA.

Thanks for your support-- you are correct Epson did not solve my problem. Over time, none of my several printing issues have been solved by Epson . Self-help and Forums have been my best solutions. Once Again I discovered the answer myself. The menu options have been moved around in Leopard compared to Tiger. In "EPSON PrintCD" you now go to Print..., choose Page Setup and unlike Tiger when you choose "US letter" under Paper Size, pulled down to US Letter, there is now a side menu that pops up and allows you to choose US letter(Manual Feed). This takes care of the CD printing problem. Though I haven't tried it as yet, I think that under this new "Paper Size" menu choosing "4x6 ( borderless)" will solve my borderless printing problem!
Sorry I can't shed any light on your particular issues

  • Paper Tray designation from within the report

We are running XMLP 5.6.3 from within Oracle Apps.
Is there a way to designate a paper tray from withing the report?
We have the requirement for AP Check to print first page to Tray #1 and then all the following pages to Tray #2. Since we have different Header on the first page I was hoping I can insert some printer codes within to instruct the printer to get the paper from the correct tray.

doesn't support it right now. it will figure it out what tray if the paper is a different size but that's about it. you have two options, have two printers or no preprinted stationary. Most companies go with two printers.

  • How can I control paper tray selection from within a report?

    Hello everybody
I need to print out a report (preferably in the PDF format) in which certain pages need a specific paper. I am therefore looking for a way to control the paper tray on per page basis. It seems hard to do even though there must be thousand of people out there with the same need - or please proof me wrong
    I really appreciate any suggestions.

  • How do I change the page set up from manual to roll, cannon ipf6400 says paper tray empty it uses roll paper.

Nee help ASAP my IPF6400 printer is telling the paper tray is empty, it uses roll paper. I tried to change the page setup from manual to roll and its no letting me.

Hi, Chaz. I'm not sure what your Print dialog box looks like (it's created by your printer driver, and I use different printers from yours). But the paper size used by my printer is set in the Page Setup dialog box (also created by the printer driver), not in the Print dialog. Try setting your desired paper size in Page Setup and see whether it then stays selected in the Print box.
I don't know of any way to edit the list of paper sizes offered by your printer driver. Contact the printer manufacturer's tech support for advice on that, but don't be too surprised if they can't help you.

  • Issues with printing all picture formats to the a4 paper tray via eprint

A little mystery which i am unable to work out.
I have recently purchased the hp photosmart plus all in one printer b210 model. The printer has eprint which is enabled and working, the printer has two trays, a standard a4 paper tray and a photo tray.
When i send a letter or standard written email it prints fine to the a4 paper tray. however if i wish to print a picture of any size or type (as i have tried different sizes and file types etc) to the a4 paper tray, it always defaults this to the photo tray and of course as there is no paper in the photo tray it displays an out of paper message.
I have been into the printer prefereneces and changed the tray type both to a4 and to auto - ask me first and both still try to print to the photo tray, looking at the demo for e print it does discuss only photo sized images and standard letters but the demo video shows an actual eprint send to the a4 tray of a different type eprinter for hp.
As a summary i really think that you can be able to send images to the a4 tray via eprint but do not know how. i have changed the tray type on the printer options and also looked at the eprint options on line. the paper default is set to a4 and nothing smaller? what else could be done and is it actually possible for this model i have?
just as an additional note i can print pictures from wireless via laptops and pcs to the a4 paper tray so the issue lies with eprint????
any help is appriciated many thanks

Currently, if you attach a photo, it will default to the photo tray.  The ability to specify photo tray vs. main tray w/attached images is not available yet.
A work-around that provides some fliexibility in this area, is that if you embed your photo into the body of the email, it will print from the main tray...don't put any text into the email and embed the image (so you can see the picture in the email body) and send it to your printer's email.
A limitation of this approach is that images will not automatically fill the page - see my crude "drawing" below of a page w/an image in the upper part of the page as an example of how a print out of an embedded image might appear.  Give this a try yourself if you'd like to see how the output looks to determine if you want to make use of this option.  You can embed multiple images as long as you stay below the 5MB size limit for each email.

  • Need PCL5 print codes to disable paper tray switching when tray is out of paper

We have a  HP P4015n with 3 trays, tray one has letterhead, tray 2 has plain paper, tray 3 has preprinted forms (all 8.5"x11" paper size).  This is connected to a Linux system with print jobs coming from a legacy software package - they are mainly text documents that have embedded PCL control codes.
The problem, when a tray is empty, the printing will continue to the next tray, which may have letterhead or preprinted form, etc.
Can I turn off auto tray switching?  Either using a PCL printer code or through the printer control panel?
If I am printing to tray 3, and that tray is empty, I'd like the printer to wait until the tray has paper again, and not use a different tray.
I played around with the "paper type" (letterhead, preprinted form, etc) setting found on the Printer's built-in web page, but when I send a job there, the printer needs someone to hit the "OK" on the printer. I assume the printer is looking for the paper type embedded in the document to match.  Is there a PCL print code for that?
I have been researching PCL5 printer control codes and can not find either command.
    Thanks for any help,

As for it moving up to the next tray, it all depends on the printer.  Some will not let the job continue to the next tray if the paper type is set differently but it is more common that the printer will just keep going.  The only workaround I have found is when doing large jobs that you know will exceed tray capacity is to just make sure the right paper is in all the trays.  The other thing too, is to keep the trays full (just make sure to put the fresh paper under the paper that is in the tray to reduce jamming issues).
I'm including the link for the history of PCL/PJL because at the bottom under Additional Documentation it links to pdf's of the technical manuals detailing everything you could ever want to know about manual coding for printing using these languages:

HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf MFP  printer:
So, I put more paper in the paper tray and closed the drawer as usual. Only the drawer will not close. I have looked inside to see if there is anything visible that would prevent it from closing. I see nothing.  Without paper, I can't print easily (just with a couple pieces of paper).  This is wierd. Has never happened before.
I have turned off and on the printer, not that that would help -- but the paper tray will still not slide into the printer.
