Paradigm Millenia CT - Good iMac speakers?

I was thinking about purchasing Paradigm Millenia CT speakers for use with both my iMac and my TV. Just wondering if these would be good desktop speakers since they seem more oriented for TVs? I'm also somewhat hesitant to try and use them as both my computer and TV speakers as it might be a bit of a hassle, and am also considering the Bower and Wilkins MM-1 and just some $200 sound bar for my TV for around the same price.
Any input would be appreciated.

Both brands of speakers you are considering are great but may I also suggest purchasing an external DAC with your setup for optimal listening pleasure.

  • Do iMac speakers have good quality?

I do not have a iMac or a apple computer yet. but i plan to and i was just wondering what is the sound quality like? I plan to do a lot of music creating and movie editing, so thats why i was concerned when i saw that the iMac speakers are on the back.

If by "good" you mean "they make sound" then yes, they are good - LOL!
Are they good for listening to music? Not in my opinion. They are small speakers and as such have no hope of generating much volume or a full frequency range.
I am a BIG music fan and there is no way that I would be happy with ANY built-in speakers, so even before I had my first gen iMac, I had the speakers on order. They arrive at about the same time and have been put to good use.
I listen to a broad range of music from classic jazz - Miles, Brubeck, Coltrane, etc. - to modern progressive rock - Spock's Beard, Yes, etc. - and even some harder stuff like Metallica and Dream Theater. All sound great on my Logitech Z-2300s. The Klipsch 2.1s sound even better, but were out of my price range at the time.
Some people will dog on Logitech, but I think their mid-priced speakers are excellent. I also have a set of their Z-4s for my less discerning wife on her PC and they sound pretty close to my Z-2300s.
It all comes down to personal preference, so if you get a chance to go listen to a few sets you can see what you might like.

  • Can anyone recommend good quality speakers to compliment my iMac 27"?

    Hi there.
I want some speakers that will compliment my 27" imac I just bought. I want some that are mainly stylish and have good bass response. The thing is I really looked at getting the BassJump 2, however it looks like it is more something that compliments very small speakers like the ones found in the macbook air and macbook pro's rather than being something that is designed for the iMac. It uses USB to power a small subwofer while still using the exsisting imac speakers as the treble speakers. Its not made for the imac really as it already has speakers that far succeed the air and pro's. I want something is made of wood and look nice on my desk while not taking up to much room. Basically I want a good upgrade from the current set for around £50. I am looking on ebay which is where I buy most of my stuff from and I found these...
NEW TRUST 2.0 QUBIC 30W SPEAKER SET FOR PC COMPUTER
They look nice and they would be what I go for if no futher suggestions are appropriate.
    Thanks alot guys!

While not many systems come in wood grain, I'd go for a 2.1 system instead of 2.0 if your looking for better sound and bass.
I really like my 2.1 Systems | Creative Inspires, but also check out Logitech or perhap even Klipsch and Bose if your budget allows for those.

  • Play music on imac speakers AND through jack

    Hello,
I'd like to play music on both the iMac speakers AND on my HiFi through the jack.
I have not found any option to do that. If I connect the jack, the speakers automatically go off.
    Thank you.

I'm going to dig a bit more.
I believe the hardware is capable of doing what you want.
We know that inserting a plug in the headphone jack doesn't
physically disconnect the internal speakers -- because the
"startup gong" always comes from through internal speakers.
OTOH, many iMac audio gurus have done considerable digging
    without success.

  • How can I use IMac speakers on Mac Bk Pro?

I wantto use my Older IMac speakers (small, clear, round, cute) on my Mac book pro.  Of course, it can't be a simple as "plugging them in".  The plug on the speakers is larger than the openning on the PRO.
I'm thinking a gadget between the two should work but What?

  • Use iMac speakers as center speaker?

    Hi,
i'm considering migrating from PC to an iMac (late 2013) but i don't want to lose my 5.1 setup which i spent my life building.
I'm evaluating some alternatives and one of those is this one:
I own a yamaha amplifier with DTS/Dolby decoder. I'd like to use a TOSLINK cable to connect the iMac to the decoder in a 5.1 setup (i know this is working).
The output of the amplifier would be: Front Left, Front Rigth, Rear Left, Rear Right and Subwoofer.
I'd like to use the iMac built in speakers as the center channel (both of the iMac speakers, of course).
I know about the Audio MIDI Setup tool which allows a huge number of different connections between different sound interfaces.
I googled a lot before posting this discussion but all i could find were tutorial about aggreation of ANALOG outputs.
Is it possible to use the optical output for the surround (except center) and the built-in speakers for center channel?
I might consider building a statue to the one answering this

  • What are good quality speakers to purchase for mini mac

what are good quality speakers to purchase for mini mac?

While I can't recommend any brand of camera, you should consider a couple of things about the editing... iMovie 8 is a good program to use if you just need to create something quickly with little real editing and sound manipulation. And iM 8 will interface with both DV tape cameras as well as hard disk/flash drive types as well. You can export the product to web services, etc very easily but it will take some extra effort to create a DVD from the edited shots. There is no direct export to iDVD.
If you want to get more serious about editing, you should consider looking iMovie 6 as it has much more flexibility in rearranging clips, adding and editing sounds, etc. However, it will only interface with DV tape cameras, which by the way, are the highest quality pics available, and you can create DVD disks.
You might try borrowing a tape camera to make a test run and compare it to a camera that uses a HD for storage. Use iM 8 and compare to ease, etc, and the product to one created in iM 6. This certainly is not the kind of recommendation you are asking for, but maybe will help in making your decision about which way to go.

  • My iMac speakers buzz now

For some reason it seems the radio on the iPhone causes my iMac speakers to emit an intermittent buzz. It's incredibly annoying. The cable that came with the dock isn't long enough to allow for docking without buzzing. I have to put the iPhone on the other side of my desk out of reach in order to keep this from happening. Is this another AT&T GSM "feature"?
BTW, this happens on my iMac C2D at home, and my iMac CD at work. The iPhone does not have to be docked either, just within a few feet of the computer.

The interesting thing is....i have my cradle parked next to my G4 tower, and next to my 23" Cinema HD Apple Screen. I have two Apple speakers (the round bose speakers) just behind the iPhone. They don't interfere at all.
    Must be in the design/shielding.
Otherwise, the iPhone will interfere with other speakers, television speakers, etc etc..

  • Using imac speakers on a G5

    Hi there
I was going to use the speakers that came with my wife's imac (G4) with my Mac G5. I realised, however, that the speakers have a 2.5" jack whereas the only audio output socket on the G5 is 3.5". Has anyone else tried to use these speakers with a G5 (they're those white rounded ones) and where do you buy the adpator from that I will need to convert the 2.5" jack into 3.5" (sneekily, there is a short metal round section at the bottom of the jack which means that a normal adaptor from Maplins or wherever won't work!

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
There is some discussion of this issue here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=596824#596824
    and here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3003331#3003331
As the solutions mentioned are either discontinued or expensive (or both), it would probably be easier to invest in an affordable powered 2.1 speaker system that will connect to the analogue audio-out port on the G5, such as
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/GB/EN,CRID=2173,CONTENTID=122 45
    - or a not-so-affordable digital 5.1 system with optical audio-in that can use the optical audio-out on the G5, such as
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/GB/EN,CRID=2177,CONTENTID=948 6
No specific product recommendation intended - you will receive as much advice on competing speaker systems from this Forum as you can use, should you require it...
    Good Luck.

  • Static-like sound from 27" iMac speakers

I'm getting a loud intermittent static-like crackle from the left speaker on my 27" i7 iMac.
I originally thought it might just be hard drive noise, since it seems to correspond to heavy hard drive activity, but the sound goes away when I plug headphones into the headphone jack. The noise comes out of the speakers at the same volume regardless of the volume setting, even when the speakers are muted, but it goes away entirely as soon as headphones are plugged in (and there is no noise coming over the headphones).
Is there any possible software fix for this, or should I assume there's some loose connection in the hardware?

I've been having the same problem, it has been extremely frusturating. I just purchased a 21.5 a couple of weeks ago, and exchanged it a couple of days ago. The same problem existed (and continues to exist) with both computers. It seems the problem only occurs if I do the following:
Put computer to 'sleep' with headphones plugged in
Remove the headphones while the computer is 'sleeping'
    Awake computer (with headphones unplugged)
I then get an extremely loud static noise from the left speaker. It is impossible to make out any sounds (other then the static), and the right speaker is muted. The static is only present if the computer is attempting to run audio (e.g. songs, garageband, alerts, volume controls, etc).
When I plug in the headphines, the sound is no longer present. I can then remove the headphones and everything seems fine.
I spoke to a 'senior support technician' via apple support on two occasions. The first time the told me to exchange the computer, the second time the tech asked me to run the computer I safe mode, go to the 'colonel-something', and I put my computer through several other tests.
The technician eventually requested I make an appointment with the 'Genius Bar' at a local apple store.
This is my first Mac (I've always been a PC user), and this has shed a dark-cloud over the company for me. Although the service has been good , its been a terrible waste of time, and I've never been so fruturated with a brand new computer.
If members of this forum are comfortable, I would request you put your computer through the steps listed above, and report your findings. I would like to know if this is a common issue, or if the store I got the computer from received a 'bad batch'.
If this is a common problem, and apple does not resolve this issue, I will switch back to PC. Although it may seem to be a minor issue, this is unacceptable for a $1200 computer.

  • Where to find adapter: old iMac speakers to MacBook Pro

Was a great set of Speakers on old iMac, but the plug is too small for MacBook Pro. Tried Radio Shack, but their's didn't work.
Not a geek, but frugal and I hate to just discard some decent speakers. Anyone else deal with this or suggest a source to get a working plug adapter?
Thank you for your consideration and any advice you can provide.

I know which ones you mean. I have a set if these as well.
Unfortunately, there is no way to use these with newer Macs.
All of the G4 line of Macs were the only Macs hat had the special connection to utilize these speakers.
They do not work with any other newer Macs or other computers.
Another " Apple proprietary" connection plug.
Other users have asked about these in other Apple forums and its the same answer.
No way to use these with newer Macs. There are no adapters either.
Griffin technologies use to make a device called the iFire which enabled use of these speakers on newer Macs, but this device has since been long discontinued and if you can find one, the sellers are asking a very expensive amount for one of these as it is cheaper or equal inmprice just to purchase a set of new, compatible speakers.
    Sorry.

  • Would this be a good IMac for serious audio and video production?

I am looking for a imac that is good for serious music recording in protools or cubase and serious HD video editing and effects with adobe premiere pro and after effects. I also need it to run good with the rest of the adobe products like photoshop, deamweaver, fireworks, flash, etc. I am a student. And this is what i have came up with. I have external HDs so 500gigs is not a problem with me.
    2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB GDDR5
    Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac - Auto-enroll
Do you think this would be good for what i do?

That would be a nice machine, espcially for the price (I am guessing you looking at the 21.5" iMac)

  • System-level EQ for iMac speakers?

    Hello,
I just got a 24" iMac (aluminum), and it's amazing.
Well, the speakers aren't. They are not terrible, just kind of so-so. And in general, that's okay with me. I have a set of external speakers I could repurpose to my iMac, but I'd rather leave them where they are.
So, I played around with iTunes' equalizer to figure out what would make it more acceptable to me. I think Treble Boost would make it sound satisfactory for my current purposes. But I wish I could get such an EQ system-wide, so that it doesn't sound "off" when I'm toying in GarageBand or watching movies.
Anybody know of any fixes? User-friendly / AppleScript / Automator / 3rd Party (preferably free, but I'm open to paying for well-made products) are all welcome.

After a while, I've noticed that the EQ on the iMac doesn't bother me any more.
Either it was fine all along, or it's not fine and I got used to it, or I was too used to my laptop's speakers before I got the iMac. (Heh.)
Anywho, if anybody does know of any utilities to adjust system-wide EQ, I'd still be interested, so please do share.

  • Can I play audio output through both my iMac speakers and Apple TV simultaneously?

I have Bose speakers conected to the headphone jack on my iMac.  When I select Airplay Mirroring on the iMac, the Bose speakers become disabled as audio is then streamed to Apple TV which resides in another room?  Is there any workaround which will give me audio to both the headphone jack and Apple TV simultaneously? Thanks.

  • IMac speakers crackling after Mavericks update

    Hello,
Since updating my early 2013 iMac 27" to OS X Mavericks whenever I play audio (especialy music) through the speakers or headphone port there is a crackling distortion to the sound, this is most apparent on mid to low notes. I believe this to be a software problem rather than a hardware problem as I did not experiance these issues in Mountain Lion before updating to Mavericks. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Last time i had the crackling audio problem was circa 2005.
The crackling starts on Youtube and VLC after a few minutes and then the increasing noise fades out. This happens both on a usb headset and headphones port.
iTunes 11.1.5 plays audio ok on both headset and the headphone port but has its own problems. No response from double clicking, only with a right click menu and selecting itunes the track will open. itunes is the default player.
Edit: crackling in itunes as well afer a few minutes.
