Paradox concerning DEP (Data Execution Prevention) when opening LabVIEW
When I try to launch LabVIEW, DEP (Data Execution Prevention) prevents me from opening it. I have followed instructions and attempted to make an exception for LabVIEW, but I get a message saying the following:
"This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled.
You cannot turn off DEP for this program."
It seems that I need this "DEP" program to run LabVIEW, but at the same time it is keeping me from running it. Help would be very much apprecaited.
Thanks in advance!
Cailin
Hello Cailin,
The Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature included in
modern Microsoft Windows operating systems that is intended to prevent
malicious code from running on the system.
Here are two methods to fixing this problem:
Method 1:
Follow these steps to add an exception for the program from the DEP error message:
When you receive the error message click Change Settings.
Select the check box next to the program, and then click Apply.
When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK two times, and then restart your system.
Method 2:
You can also add an exception for the program by using System Properties in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
Click the Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
In Performance Options, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Add.
In the Open dialog box, locate and then click the program.
Click Open, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK.

DEP (Date Execution Prevention) Closed iTunes due to security reason
I just bought a new laptop (SONY SR) operated with Window Vista. My laptop never run iTunes since I installed it. I tried uninstall and reinstall again n again, but it just doesn't work.
A screen appeared and say that iTunes stopped working, DEP (Data Execution Prevention) has closed iTunes due to security reason.
How do I off that "DEP"? Thanks!!!Hi, I just got this problem solved. Hope it helps.
You don't have to turn off DEP or reinstall any program.
The only thing you need to do is associate your Quicktime files ONLY to QuickTime player.
When you open QuickTime it will automatically pop up a window to ask you if you want to fix file association. The answer is positive of course.
If it still doesn't work maybe you could uninstall some codec / media players which associate with QuickTime files. -

Running Win Vista sp2 Home Premium, Firefox 15.0.1.
Thanks in advance for any help.

DEP (Data Execution Prevention) Error
I was prompted to upgrade Quicktime, and did so. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. Got an error during install about DEP preventing the install. Windows Help says to try and see if a DEP-compatible version of the program is available by visiting the software publisher's website. I can find nothing about this at apple support. Anyone had this problem? I have uninstalled Quicktime, and was hoping to just find an older version to re-install...
Of course, after I posted, I found an older version for download (olderversion.com) and have done so and all is well! thanks!

What do I do with Windows Vista DEP (Data Execution Prevention)?
I just installed Adobe Reader XI and it seems to run fine until I try and close it out. When I do, DEP steps in and stops it from closing. I'm not sure what to do.. Re-install Adobe Reader, disable DEP, install a patch? Please help
This is a document which talks about the same problem with Reader 9, you might want to try this with Reader XI as well

Itunes 7 will not install due to DEP (data execution prevention)
I am trying to install itunes 7 on a windows XP computer. It crashes each time I try to install immediately after clicking continue on the screen where it has 3 checkboxes (first puts icon on desktop, the second makes itunes the default audio player). I get an error that itunes installer has been shut down by windows by the DEP. It does this even if I exclude all the itunes on DEP. If I set DEP to only monitor windows processes, it still crashes at the same spot, it just doesnt bring up the dep window.
Any ideas?Either way I get the same installer error twice then an itunes error that it could not install because it needs quicktime. (which I have).
okay ... 7.0.0.70 needs QT 7.1.3. the itunes/QT installer bundle has changed up significantly, in that the QT part of the install runs before the itunes part. (it used to come second.) so if there's a problem with a QT install, that might be causing the current issue with the overall itunes install.
so let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 install, to see if that goes in properly.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.
if the install goes through okay, try another itunes 7.0.0.70 install. does it go through properly this time? -
Acrobat 9 Pro installer crashes with DEP (Data Execution Prevention) on Win XP SP3
Well the title says it all: Whenever I try to start the Installer and press "Next", it grinds for some seconds and then "encounters a problem and cannot continue" stating a DEP violation.
This happens with both the CD version of my box and the downloadble trial installer.
Any hints? CS5 Design Standard was installed and works fine. Only Acrobat does this.
Thanks, PhilippEither way I get the same installer error twice then an itunes error that it could not install because it needs quicktime. (which I have).

Flash keeps crashing and now its saying data execution prevention has closed adobe flash player
Flash has always given me alot of problems. adobe flash would ocassionaly crash through out the day. i usual refresh the page and its all good for a little while. but now its closing/crashing on every single page im going to. its also saying 'to help protect your computer, data execution prevention has closed adobe flash player'. i was using 11.9 r900. with all the problems i tried downloading the newer 12.0 r0. its made no difference.
My computer is Windows vista 32 bit
i use firefox
problem originaly affected pages with videos on it but now its effecting every single page i open and i get tons of pop ups and alerts saying crashed, closed, stopped working.
what can i do to stop this problem?DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is Windows "protecting you from yourself".

The options to disable it are there... but "only if you trust yourself not to blow up the whole Internet" (sarcasm). -
Exchange performance and Data Execution Prevention
Hi
Is there any impact on Exchange server performance related to (DEP) Data Execution Prevention ? Should I exclude Exchange processes from DEP ?
I searched for any blog/forum post that would discuss this subject but had no luck finding any.
Regard,Hi Grzegorz,
Data Execution Prevention is a Windows feature, not an Exchange server feature.
DEP is enabled on computers that are running Microsoft Windows Server by default.
In our lab, we often turn it on. Sometimes it can resulting that messaging performance is slower than expected. Besides, there is no official articles or blogs to explain how the Data Execution Prevention affect Exchange performance.
Hope my clarification is helpful.
Best regards,
Amy

I've installed 7.0. Now I can't use FF at all because I get a Data Execution Prevention when trying to start it. I can't turn off Data Execution Prevention for FF only - I tried. I'm using Vista ...
There's a discussion on this here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5321627?start=0&tstart=0 with several possible solutions that may work for you.

I have tried all the advice I have seen on Apple Support discussion boards for the past 2 days, and nothing works. Disabling DEP is not possible, regardless of what the Windows Support discussions tell you. In the meantime, I have absolutely no access to iTunes, or even the ability to update my iPhone or iPod. The only feasable solution is the possibility of a version of iTunes that is compatable with Data Execution Prevention settings.
In the past 2 days, I have: Removed iTunes and related components from the Control Panel (numerous times) Per the instructions on Apple Service discussions pages, I did it in this order. 1. iTunes 2. QuickTime 3. Apple Software Update 4. Apple Mobile Device Support 5. Bonjour ^. Apple Application Support. After all that, I reinstalled iTunes.
Everything looks fine during installation, with no error messages. At the end, it says everything was successfully installed. However, when the installation tool closes, iTunes will only partially open a window, but will stay blank. Then I get the message that iTunes has stopped working and that Windows has shut it down. Then I get notified that DEP has caused iTunes to shut down.
Can someone please help? Or, is there a DEP compatible version of iTunes?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!!Polydorus,
Thank you for your kind reply. During the many times I uninstalled iTunes, and all the other Apple programs, I only used the Uninstall Programs in Windows Control Panel. To make a long story short, I found a solution that works for me, but it is still not a complete soluton.
Here is what I did:
I used Uninstall Program in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall everything IN THIS ORDER
1. iTunes
2. QuickTime
3. Apple Software Update
4. Apple Mobile Device Support
5. Bonjour
6. Apple Application Support
Then I went to C:\Program Files and looked for any iTunes or Apple program listed there and deleted it.
I have 64-bit, so I then went to C:\Program files (x86) and looked for any iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour or any other file or folder that had Apple or any Apple program in the name and deleted it.
I went to C:\Windows|SysWOW64\Quicktime and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuicktimeVR and deleted them
Go back to START, and open the "C" drive. Open the USERS folder. Open the folder with your username. Open the AppData folder. Then double-click on the LOCAL folder to open it. If you see any files or folders there that show any Apple program or file, delete those files or folders. Then go to the REMOTE folder and do the same. If there are any other users on this computer, go to each individual user and do the same thing in each LOCAL and REMOTE folder. Restart your computer.
Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ This is the page where you will actually download iTunes. Scroll down the page to the section under "Windows Software" that says "64-bit editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 require the iTunes 64-bit installer". Click on that line to get the installer. It will take you to another download window.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to the message that says "Download for iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows (64-bit) here: iTunes for Windows 64-bit." Click there to get the download.
This is not iTunes 10.5, so you will not have access to "The Cloud", but it is at least functional until Apple actually comes out with a version that will not activate the DEP message. There was no combination of uninstalling and reinstalling, with or without Quicktime, with 10.5 that did not cause problems with Data Execution Prevention problems that I found.
I also used Firefox for the downloading instead of Internet Explorer. It just seemed to function better that way.
I hope this is helpful to someone. It's just what worked for me. -
I recently did an update for my iTunes and now when I try to open it, I get an error that says that my data execution prevention is not allowing it to open. How do I fix this issue?
Try updating your QuickTime to the most recent version. Does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

Error when opening PowerPoint related to Data Execution Prevention Mode
I am experiencing an error when attempting to open a PowerPoint file. . Here is the full message: "powerPoint is experiencing a serious problem with PowerPoint com add in. This add-in is incompatible with Data Protection Execution Mode and should be disabled or upgraded to the latest version. Do you wish to disable?" I am using PowerPoint 2010 and Adobe Presenter version 8.
I've continually experience the same issues. I have updated to Presenter 8.02.
If I open a project by double-clicking the .pptx file I get the following error message:
"Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)
SlideShowWindow (unknown member) :Invalid request. Automation rights are not granted."
If I then enter the Presenter tab and click an option (for instance "Settings") Powerpoint crashes and restarts itself. Once restarted the following error message is presented:
"PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com adding' add-in. This add-in is incompatible with Data Execution Prevention mode and should be disabled or upgraded to the latest version. Do you wish to disable this add-in from loading?"
I can often crash Powerpoint with the same DEP warning by closing the presentation with the window's "X" button - Powerpoint restarts itself and gives the same DEP warning as above.
I normally choose to not disable and continue working. If I then go to "Settings" in Presenter again, it will open without problem. It seems that after four to six occurences like this, Presenter will then be disabled by Powerpoint and require resetting in the File-Options-Addins section.
Alternately, if I open Powerpoint first and then open my project through the File-Open or Recent Presentations list I do not get the Run-time error mentioned above and usually can open a Presenter option ("Settings") without crashing Powerpoint. I can also close the project without incedent if I use the File-Close menu as opposed the the "X" button.
I am running Win 7 64bit, Powerpoint 2010 32bit with Presenter 8.02.
Sincerely hoping support is continuing to monitor these threads, as this one was started in November without much response.
