Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
          /var/log ▹ install.log
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. The contents of the log will appear on the right. Each log message begins with a timestamp. Select the messages from the time of the last installation or update attempt. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again. Select the new messages that appear. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
☞ If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
☞ Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
☞ Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. You may need to use a text editor with search and replace, such as TextEdit.

  • MacBook Pro Stalls/Running slow since Mavericks Installation

On the advice of the more experienced here is a new thread.
Since installing Mavericks my MBP has gone from pretty much an instant response to requests, to stalling, the spinning pinwheel, longer startup and shutdown times, as well as slower access to websites (Chrome and Safari, though Safari appears slower).
I have been advised to run EtreCheck when I first joined a post regarding the same problem.  I posted the results and was advised to work through some of the issues.  This is the initial test result and the very much appreciated advice.
NOTE - EXTENSIVE TEXT TO FOLLOW.
I don't have a specific fix from your report, but I can point out what other users have had issues with.

Red is the items I'd look at these are mostly 'system level' - they can alter a lot in the OS. Check the developers website, update or remove the apps if the developer doesn't say it supports 10.9 or if you can live without them.
Soundflower is out of date & it is a 'kernel extension', the kernel is the core of the OS - you don't want any old code running here.
The installer has a removal tool too https://code.google.com/p/soundflower/ so update or remove it if you don't use it.
Update or remove Paragon's NTFS tool, it is running at a system level & it's background jobs seem to be in a 'problem state', it also has something running in the kernel.
Adobe has an updater running, try to ensure Adobe's apps are all up to date, just incase they have stopped checking. Repeat with Google's apps, just launch the apps & look in the 'App menu' or the Help menu for updates. These companies tend to reinstall the updaters if you try to delete them, so there it little you can do but keep the apps updated.
It's odd that all your User Launch Agents: are not loaded, these are background jobs that start on login (if they are in a loaded state). The same principle applies, update or remove the related apps if they are not needed.
CleanMyMac is a concern - there are lots of posts here claiming it can break the OS - it can help you to remove files that are installed by Apple which is not the best idea. I am unconvinced that running 'maintenance utilities' all the time is a good idea, however the app removal tool may be OK for cases where a developer doesn't have an uninstaller. 'Cleaner apps' use RAM & can spend time scanning files which can slow other tasks. Search here for varied opinions on CleanMyMac. I also use ClamXAV, ensure that is upto date & so check it's engine & rules are current.
The purple items are 'user level' items (run on login of your account).
There is a simple way to see if your issues are because of 'user level' items, create a new test user account & login as that user. If the Mac is stable you can assume it is something within your 'user items'.
Check that you need the Login Items running every time you login. They are listed in System Preferences> Users & groups > select your account… login items tab.
You appear to have 3 LogMeIn internet plugins installed - is Safari behaving OK or running slow? I would consider removing most plugins & then installing them as you need them. You can look inside /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ to remove them manually.
~/Library is your 'home library' Use the Finders Go Menu > Open Folder… and enter ~/Library to reveal it. Apple hid this Library folder.
I'd be tempted to remove the Java applet plugin - old Java is a real secuity risk & Safari has probably disabled this for you already.
There seems to be 2 Facebook plugins installed (probably inside your ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/). Remove the oldest one & look for the newest release. Update the Safari Extension if it needs it too.
The Preference Panes are installed in /Library/PreferencePanes/ and ~/Library/PreferencePanes/. Open System prefs & launch each third party pref pane (the bottom rows) & check for updates if possible. These also have an ability to modify the OS, so any errors could effect everything. You can usually right click (or ctrl+click) to remove them from the preferences (it removes them from the OS, but may leave any libraries or extra tools behind - see if the developer has removal instructions).
I see you have Plex installed, does this run very often? I find it can drag a Mac to a slow crawl when it is indexing. I suspect Connect360 may do similar things, but I don't really know for sure what it does .
MenuTab for Facebook seems to be doing something with RAM & CPU, update or remove if you don't need it.
That may all be daunting, but it should help. Start with the system level items, and then look at updating the other items. You may find things improve after a cleanup & a reboot.
This was extremely helpful and I have gone as far as my knowledge will allow for now.  I did make a bootable clone of the main HDD prior to doing anything, and now there seems to be little improvment following the suggestions made.  Also along the way MacFuse was deleted and well as Flip4Mac and NTFS.
Things are far from perfect though and the MBP still stalls and is performing very poorly.

  • HT1553 Backing up to a NTFS External Hard Drive (I have Paragon NTFS)

    Dear Apple experts,
I have a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8 and a 1.5 TB Hard Drive (USB 2.0), to which I'd like to create a backup disk image.
the 1.5 TB Hard Drive already has about 300 GB of data on it and is formatted NTFS
Macbook has Paragon NTFS on it, allowing it to write to the hard drive
I've researched and have read HT1553: Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6: How to back up and restore your files
    "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US"
    I had a few ideas:
    1. Partitioning the drive into 2 and formatting: 50% is NTFS and 50% is OS Extended.
Can this can be done via Disk Utility?
Can it be done without having to format, potentially losing all existing data on the external hard drive?
    2. Buying another drive and formatting it to OS Extended
    3. Simply creating a backup disk image to the hard drive without partitioning and formatting - seems straightforward?
this is what I would like to do. If it's not ideal, what would you suggest?
    Questions:
    1. Since the Macbook has Paragon NTFS, does that mean a backup disk image can be created onto the hard drive (NTFS format)?
    2. Importantly, if my Macbook fails, can it read this backup disk image and thus be restored?
    BACKUP
If yes to the above, can it be done this way:
Start from  Macbook (without the install disk)
Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Select the disk I wish to back up  (Macintosh HD) in the source pane on the left.
Click "Verify Disk" to check the hard disk for issues. If an issue is found, click "Repair Disk" to repair.
Click the "New Image" button in the toolbar.
Give your image a useful name such as "04-15-2009 Macintosh HD backup". A date in the name makes it easy to tell when the backup was made.
Save destination is a location to the external hard disk, then click "Save" to continue.
Enter your admin name and password if prompted. Imaging process starts.
    Expect to take 2-3 hours?
May I use the computer while it is doing this?
    9. When the imaging process is complete, select the newly created disk image in the device pane.
Then, choose Images > Scan Image for Restore... from the menu bar, and let the scan complete.
is this step to make sure that the disk image is bootable?
    10. Quit Disk Utility (press Command-Q). Then press Command-Q to quit the Mac OS X installer; you will be prompted to restart
    RESTORE
In the event, that my laptop dies.
Go to apple store to get hard disk replaced?
    How much will this cost?
Or do I get a new laptop altogether?
Connect external hard drive to laptop
Start from your Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 Install DVD. (Insert the disc, then restart and hold the C key.)
Select your language. Do not start an installation.
Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Select your internal Mac OS X disk that you want to restore to.
    Click the Restore tab.
Drag your internal disk to the "Destination:" field.
Click the "Image..." button next to the "Source:" field.
Navigate to the location of the backup image you want to restore (located on your external disk).
    Click "Open" to continue.
Click the "Restore" button. Confirm you want to "Restore to Disk" by clicking "Restore" again.
Enter your admin name and password when prompted. If the backup disk image is encrypted, enter the disk image password if necessary. The time it takes to restore from the image depends on factors such as the amount of data on your backup disk image.
What computer will be back to the way it was ?
Q: In what circumstances would I need to use Migration Assistant?
If I bought a new Macbook? For a new macbook, is there any reason why I cannot perform the above steps?
    Other
My MacPro is about 3 years old at the moment. It's mainly used at home now, connected to an external monitor, though I used to take it to university.
I hope I didn't significantly shorten it's life by taking it everywhere with me.
How long typically do they last?
When should I expect that there could be 'something wrong'
What maintenance can I do? Verify and repair disks? Take it to the Apple Store to clean the internal fans? It's on 24/7 and sometimes whirs quite loudly.
Sorry if these questions are simplistic, just want to be sure.
Hopefully, your help can assist me and others also in my position.
    We appreciate your help

For the sake of simplicity, I just split it into 2 x 750 GB.
I'm going to assume you've already backed up the 300 GB of data that was on there before repartitioning. Also just want to confirm that you made the drive map GUID when you did the partitioning. You will not be able to boot to OS X on the external if you didn't.
    Skipping ahead a bit…
if I add files and use the remaining space, will I still be able to restore my computer from the clone?
If you always do a full clone, yes. If you use SuperDuper's! Smart Backup feature (paid version) or Carbon Copy Cloner's similar function, then no. The whole idea of those two is to save massive amounts of backup time by updating only what is needed to get the target drive to match the source.
    4. Click "Verify Disk" to check the hard disk for issues. If an issue is found, click "Repair Disk" to repair.
You won't be able to do that. You'd be trying to repair the drive you're currently booted to before cloning it. You can only repair a drive that is not the same as the startup drive. The only way you have of doing that at the moment is to boot to your 10.6.x DVD and run Disk Utility from there to do a Repair Disk of the main drive.
    5 through 9
No. Skip all of that. You'd only succeed in putting a .dmg file of the main drive onto the Mac partition of the external. You will still have no way to boot to, or restore it. Please follow the instructions I noted above for cloning the main drive to the external. The result will be an exact duplicate with all of the files and folders on the drive as on any other drive. Not compressed into a drive image. To repeat…
    3) You can now use Disk Utility to clone your MBP's hard drive to the Mac formatted partition on the external. Click any logical drive (it doesn't matter which one) and choose the Restore tab. Drag and drop the MPB's logical hard drive name into the Source field at the right, and the external drive's Mac formatted drive name into the Destination field. Click Restore and let it run without doing anything else.
As an example below. With the Restore tab selected, I dragged "Mac Pro" into the Source field, and "Mavericks" into the Destination field. If I were to click the Restore button towards the lower right, the Mavericks partition will end up as an exact duplicate of whatever is on the Mac Pro drive, whether there's an OS on it or not.
Personally, this is what I would do. Launch Disk Utility and split the Mac OS Extended partition. You can do this now without repartitioning from scratch. Click on the physical drive and click the Partition tab. Grab the lower right dashed corner of the Mac partition and drag it up, like so:
Here, I kind of randomly sized it to 424.57 GB. I could click on the number to round it off if I wanted to. The point is that you will now have a gray area of unused disk space. Click the + button and a new partition will be created to fill the hole. You can do this as many times as you want. By default, the new partition with be Mac OS Extended. Click Apply.
Here's what I do with such a setup.
    1) For you, the NTFS partition would be for your Windows data, or data that can be shared between the Mac and Windows. Be careful what Mac files you put on an NTFS drive. I wouldn't put a .dmg file on it.
    2) Besides the NTFS partition, you now have two Mac partitions. You could clone the main drive to one of them, which will make it bootable and an exact copy of your main drive. But my choice is to install a bare bones installation of OS X on one of the partitions, along with any drive and file utilities I may need to rescue another drive, or its data. Such as DiskWarrior, File Salvage, Data Rescue, Drive Genius, etc. That's all I have on it.
The other partition is where I store backups of any other data. In this type of setup, the backup of your main drive now can be a .dmg file. You have a separate Mac partition to boot to, where you can restore the .dmg file from the second Mac partition back to the MacBook Pro's main drive.
Kind of getting back to your last question:
Or does that Mac partition have to contain only the disk image (clone) and nothing else?
Not at all a good idea to use the clone partition as a way to also store secondary files. Say you copy all kinds of other data there and then remove it from the main drive to save space. The next time you clone the main drive to the backup, all of that extra data will be wiped out. A clone is literal. Only what exists on the source drive is what will end up being on the target drive. Anything else gets removed. That is at least in part why I use multiple Mac partitions on my external drive.

  • Windows XP or Window 7 installation problem through bootcamp

    Hi,
I tried to install Window XP through boot camp and successfully made partition, boot the xp cd and copies all the windows installation files on NTFS drive. After restarting system for installation it gives error system32/hal.dll file not found. Can you help in that regard.
2nd Question: Can I Install Windows 7 without any problem on my MacBook Pro.
3rd Question: I have installed Paragon NTFS to access NTFS drive from Mac OS but it doesn't work. It does not show any NTFS partition. Any other solution in that regard?

my experience with the hal.dll had more to do with creating partitions. I have 2 HD in my computer and I wanted to partition the second drive (because it is huge) into 2 and put winxp on one and win7 on the other.
The end result is that, for whatever reason, you cannot partition the drive the windows is on, or you will get that error. I don't know why this is. I tried partition first via bootcamp, partitioning in the XP setup and partition afterward using a tool to partition HD. In every case, as soon as I had partitioned the drive, I would get the hal.dll error.
    Windows 7.
32 bit should be just like 32bit vista. If you're asking about 64 bit, then its a little different. The windows 7 64bit isn't supported by apple, and if you have an older mac, it won't install at all. I did find a solution to one of the possible errors. If you are installing win7 64 bit and get the error "select cd-rom boot type" then look up my post on that issue here on the apple forums.

  • Creating and restoring a Boot Camp partition using Paragon

I am trying to restore a clone of the Boot Camp partition that's on my MacBook Air (Snow Leopard) to My MacBook Pro (Lion).
I was told I could do this without requiring the Windows 7 installation disk by using Paragon Hard Disk Manager.
I downloaded the Paragon Hard Disk Manager on the MacBook Air in the Windows partition and followed the steps the Wizard told me. I chose back up. I successfully backed up the Boot Camp partition but noticed that the amount of disk space on the back up external drive was about 8GB, but the amount used up by Boot Camp was 16 GB.
When I went into the new computer and tried to create a Boot Camp partition, I am not able to do this without installing Windows software.
When I plugged in the external drive which had the back up on it, it just has some files and no Wizard I can use to restore the Windows partition.
So I think I've done it wrongly.
When I first started the wizard, there was a choice of making an image. I did choose this initially and a message came up and said I had done this but there was nothing else - no information about where this image was and what I should do with it. So I chose "Back up" and that is where I am.
Even if I do manage to create an image that contains everything, the operating system and the files, how can I restore that to the newly created Boot Camp partition on the other computer if in order to create the Boot Camp partition I need to install a Windows 7 disk?
It's not that I don't have a valid Windows 7 installation disk, I do but I have to call telephone support to install it because the activation is tied to the first laptop which has issues and needs to be repaired and that's why I am doing the migration of the data. And it's inconvenient to do the telephone thing because it's after hours now and I want to get the clone of the Windows partition before I send off the computer for repairs which I am supposed to do tomorrow morning.
Plus, I am not sure by using the Windows 7 installation disk and migration of data method that I will have the partition looking exactly the same as before, and that's very important for me because I do internet banking with a foreign bank and it took ages for them to set up the internet banking on my computer, and I am worried that internet banking won't work if I do not have an exact clone of the Windows partition.
I can go back again and try making an image disk but I still have the problem of using the Paragon program which is a Windows program on the Mac operating system, which I have to use when I am creating the Windows partition. Is there other software from Paragon that I am supposed to get?

Paragon didn't work for me and their support is quite lousy. I think I just threw $50 away.
I didn't need another activation key to install Windows 7 on the second computer (MBP). The boot camp installation went smoothly. Once in Windows, I downloaded the software again, Paragon Hard Disk Manager, and then chose "restore". It didn't recognize the archive I had made on the external hard drive no matter what I did. I had to give up after a few tries.
So I went to the Paragon website to look for answers in the support section.
They do not respond to emailed support questions for up to three days after you send in the question even if you are a new customer.
I am tempted to ask for a refund because they have false advertising claiming that their product works when it doesn't.
The steps are not that hard to follow if you use their Wizard and the Wizard told me that I had done everything right and that I had created an archive and I named it and everything.
When I went to restore it, nothing. I couldn't even eject the volume. Very strange.
Their FAQ on Support site is unhelpful and full of technical terminology. Nothing pertains to my problem.
I really don't want the headache. Besides if all I wanted was to do a backup I could have used the free back up and restore utility in Windows 7 which is meant to be excellent.
Another Apple Support Discussion member  said they had a similar problem, a problem with the archives, and that even after working with Paragon for seven months, it was still not resolved.
After a certain period of time after you've bought the product, you have to pay $50 to get support. It's not worth the bother.
It's a German company and German companies in general are not big into service. I can tell that this is true with this company.
So having been burned, I really do not want to keep going down this path. I really just want my money back.

              1.01 GB          Wired RAM
              6.01 GB          Page-ins
              517 MB          Page-outs

You have been up for ~17 days, and you have 1.72GB of pageouts.  That averages out to one page every 3 seconds, and we will assume you re not working 24/7, so when you are using your Mac you are spending a lot of time paging to disk.  Disks are slow.
As Kappy says, you are either concurrently running too may RAM hungry apps, or you have some apps that really want lots of RAM and you are running them a lot day after day.  Either "Stop That!", or get more RAM.
You could also consider a Solid State Disk, but that is not as good as having real RAM and would be more expensive than RAM unless you Mac is max'ed out on RAM.  Of course you could do both.  More RAM and an SSD
If you want to see the paging for yourself, start an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session, and run the command:
    sar -g 60 100
which will report the pageout stats every minute for 100 minutes (adjust the numbers to suit your tastes).
Now use your Mac as your normally would, including the times when it is running slow.  After you have experienced the slowness, go back and look at the 'sar' output.  If you have mostly zeros with maybe a trivial blip every once in awhile, that is noise and not a paging issue.  If you have some high numbers, then you are paging heavily at that time.  If you have sustained paging, even if small value, it is going to affect your performance.  High numbers will affect your performance even more.

  • Installing Windows XP from Old PC Hard Drive Without Installation CD???

    Hi,
Let me first say I'm a brand new mac user and loving my new macbook pro. A major issue I'm having is that I'm in real estate and can't use my online MLS System without running Windows. I hooked up my old IDE hard drive via USB 2.0 adapter thinking I could run bootcamp and find the necessary installation files from the old hardrive. It looks like bootcamp will only let me install via a CD or DVD. I don't have the original Windows CD. Any thoughts from anyone? Please keep in mind I only know the very basics and don't understand technical computerese talk. Thanks!!!

Darn, no such luck. I get about half of it, but all the java stuff doesn't show up. Bummer

I may go routing through my storage and try to find an old Windows 2000 installation CD.

  • Unable to format drive in windows installer

Whenever I try to install windows XP the windows installer skips the disk formatting screen. I used different windows install cd's. Without the formatting screen windows will not start up after installing and I get a disk error. So weird because When I used the same cd before on my old iMac everything was fine...

im not sure how to fix that problem, but i do know that if you download NTFS for mac, you can format the drive to NTFS using disk utlity. Its not really a solution, more of a workaround, but that will at least get the drive to the right format for you

  • Boot camp does not find Windows XP installer disc

    Hi,
I am trying to install Windows XP on macbook pro. I have partitioned the hard drive and when I push "Start installation" boot camp says "The installer disc could not be found", though I see the icon on the desktop and can browse teh disc. I am logged in as an administrator and have an original Windows XP SP2 and earlier it worked fine on my laptop (I am reinstalling Windows)..
I tried several things suggested in forums (for example here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1402467) and none helped..
    1) I restarted while holding Option key or C key - did not help
    2) I created an image of Windows XP installer and burnt a new disk - did not help
    3) I repartitioned the hard drive several times, I restarted several times - did not help
I am so frustrated with this bug in boot camp.. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

you still have not clarified if you used BCDedit or repair the MBR
Whether you used an NTFS driver - that may be all you need - try the full functional demo Paragon NTFS for OS X, it is great at mounting PC NTFS volumes and cases.
    http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
There is no such thing as "boot camp" to detect Windows. Poor language. BCA partitions. Do you want to remove XP partition? that is the tool.
Boot Camp control panel in Windows that has a Startup Disk style feature.
But "boot camp" means zilch other than installing a set of drivers and the creatiion of a partition.
Of course Lion Recvovery only works with OS X, not XP. There is a hidden feature to show all partitions and their health but nothing more.
Backup everything and rebuild and restore.

  • What is the Installer process supposed to mean?

This process named "Installer" keep making me angry and frustrated.
This process will appear in Activity Monitor after using BitTorrent application and once appeared it's does consuming RAM like ****.
The process goes from a few MB to GB and reached the maximum which made my mac nearly unusable.
So I have to force quit couple times and everything will back to normal.
But the point is This process will keep appearing even I'm already terminated the process.
This problem never appeared to me before on Mavericks and Mountain Lion and lower.
    Please see attached.
Force quit the process doesn't effect anything to bittorrent or any application or the osx.
I want to know why and how to stop it.

    Here it is.

  • Crashing after Clean Installation Yosemite 10.10.3

Hello guys, I ve a problem since I installed Yosemite 10.10.3 (clean installation). I had the oldest version of Yosemite but when 10.10.3 released I decided to make a clean installation. After a few days I got the first crash and a few minutes ago got the newest. I'm very disappointed because I use Mac OS X 1.5 years now and  it's the first time my system crashes. I don't know how to resolve this problem. The only thing I did was a Hardware Test that was fine and a Hard Disk Verification that was also fine. I'll post both of the reports and I'd like your opinion.

  • Boot Camp partition no longer loads/re-installs.

    Hello everyone,
I'm having a strange issue with Boot Camp(or possibly my Hard Drive in general). I had a working Win7 Ultimate 32-bit partition last night, then rebooted into Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2). I tried rebooting into Windows 7 this morning, and it goes to a blank black screen(without the blinking cursor), and never loaded the OS. I tried accessing the Windows Boot menu to turn on visual debugging/safe mode/recovery console, and I never access that menu. I grabbed my Win7 install disc, and it also boots to a black screen. I was only able to get some display when I used a 64-bit only disc, and even that only gave me the "Windows is loading files" progress bar, and stayed there once the bar had filled.
I stuck an Arch Linux boot disc in the system, and was able to boot all the way to a bash console.
I then decided to back up my files, remove the Boot Camp partition and reinstall Windows 7. Same results as above. I never get to the installer to finish loading the Windows installer.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
if I remember correctly Parallels installs some kind of file system driver to OSX to access NTFS files system partitions.
The 'case of the missing Windows partition' is widely spread when using these NTFS file system drivers in OSX.
(Others are NTFS-3G; Paragons NTFS for Mac and Tuxera NTFS for Mac).
To my knowledge there is no other remedy to this phenomenon then to deinstall the NTFS drivers.
But as long as the Option-key is working maybe you can live with it.
    Or use rEFIt http://refit.sourceforge.net/ as a Boot-Menu.

  • Bootcamp with XP SP2 and NTFS partitions (Paragon) – Best Setup?

    Intro
Just got the new Mac Pro and I'm not sure where to place Windows for use in Bootcamp and (using the same installation) in Fusion 2. I got a smaller drive (600GB) and will get two 1TB ones soon. The first is for OSX and the other two for work files and music etc.
I want to be able to easily clone/recopy my OS X System drive independently from the data so I'd like to keep the two separate. I'll probably use the two others as RAID to mirror the content (=1TB).
    Question
Should I split the first disc into two partitions and install Windows XP on that one, or should I install windows on the other (two)? I'm not sure if I'll work more in Bootcamp or more in Fusion. Some things (3DSMax) might be too slow in Fusion. Do Fusion and OS X work well on the same disc or do they hinder each other? Is there any other reason to not put OS X and the Bootcamp partition on the same hard drive?
What about the backup of the Windows Volume. Does it matter if it's on the same harddisc as the OS X Volume?
I know there is NTFS support on Mac (Paragon), to allow OS X to write on an NTFS disc, I'll get that.
I'd like to use NTFS on the Windows partition instead of FAT32, does Fusion work well with that? Could I then use part of the mirrored 1TB harddiscs in NTFS format to read and write from Windows and OS X to them?
Thanks a lot for your time. Here's the questions again:
    1. Windows on the same disc as OSX? Y/N
    2. Windows and/or Windows work files on OS X Raid? Y/N
    3. Windows and/or Windows work files in NTFS format on Raid? Works/doesn't work

Someone else may come along with a for-sure suggestion/idea, but the first thing that comes to my mind is that you used an unsupported method for installing Windows. Boot Camp requires a Windows XP DVD with service pack 2 included, and that's not what you used.
Like I said, I can't say for sure, but that's my first guess.

  • Installation of Window 7 for my iMac 27 inch

I would like to install window 7 to my iMac 27 inch. Could anyone can answer my following questions.
    1) Which format (FAT or NTFS) should i use for creating a Partition for Windows 7?
    2) If select NTFS, what partition size should i be select? (ie, 32GB, less than 32GB or can i use more than 32GB)
    3) If select FAT, what partition size should i be select? (ie, 32GB, less than 32GB or can i use more than 32GB)
    4) This is my first time to install window to my iMac, and i would like to install window 7. So do i have to update my boot camp to version 3.1 before installation?
    5) What does it means that NTFS not be able to save files to the window volume?
    6) Any other software i need to update before my installation of window 7?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I would like to install window 7 to my iMac 27 inch. Could anyone can answer my following questions.
    1) Which format (FAT or NTFS) should i use for creating a Partition for Windows 7?
NTFS is a must for Windows 7. It won't install on FAT32.
    2) If select NTFS, what partition size should i be select? (ie, 32GB, less than 32GB or can i use more than 32GB)
At least 40GB is a good starting point. Depending on the programs and files you wanna use, maybe more.
    3) If select FAT, what partition size should i be select? (ie, 32GB, less than 32GB or can i use more than 32GB)
See above, FAt32 not possible with Windows 7
    4) This is my first time to install window to my iMac, and i would like to install window 7. So do i have to update my boot camp to version 3.1 before installation?
See here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986 and the BootCamp Installation Guide here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
    5) What does it means that NTFS not be able to save files to the window volume?
OSX can not write to NTFS partitions without additional help, like NTFS-3G http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/ or NTFS for Mac http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
NTFS can of course write to its own partition. BootCamp Windows can also only read from OSX partitions, unless you use MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/
    6) Any other software i need to update before my installation of window 7?
See the bottom of this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986
