Paragraph in one block

Hi everyone,
I've a loop of a variable that will be replaced with 4-5 lines of text. I dont want to have those 4-5 lines separated on 2 pages. I want a page break at the beginning of a group if the group doesn't fit the remaining space in the page. I tried the native functionality in MS word in paragraph options (sorry, I can't give you the exact name because my MS Word is in French.
When I use the template viewer included with BIP desktop, the result is Ok exporting to pdf, but doesn't work exporting in RTF. Since my template is in RTF and the result, I don't understand why this is not working.
Is it a bug ? I also have difficulties with RTF exporter for the different header (from first page) functionality.
PS: I'm using "bipublisher_desktop_windows_x86_101332_disk1.zip".
Any help is welcome.

When choosing to repeat a group of data, the last option refers to Breaks, so try to choose "Section" instead of "No break". Tell me if it works, otherwise I'll try something else.

PDF is not a word processor file format.
It has no "styles", "format", "layout", "columns", "rows", "tables", etc.
PDF writers paint the content to the canvas that is the PDF page.
Depending on what was used and how it operates this painting can be like a paint by numbers affair.
ISO 32000-1:2008, the ISO standard for PDF explains it all.
So, when exporting to text from your PDF the progression is left to right, top down.
Remember, PDF has no awareness of "columns". What we see is our construct not PDF's.
What you and I see as two columns with a specific read order is our imposition.
What is on the PDF page is simply a line of text characters.
That is how it is with all versions of Acrobat. Applications can only make use of what the file format supports eh.
What to do?
Master content in a logical hierarchy in the authoring file.
Always use the build-in Headings for Headings.
Use the built-in "table" feature.
Use a PDF writer process that is compliant with the ISO standard and that supports proper output of Tagged PDF.
A well-formed Tagged PDF will export properly.
Two key design considerations for Tagged PDF are:
(1) Support Accessible PDF
(2) Support Export of PDF page content.
What constitutes a "well-formed tagged PDF?"
This would be a PDF that is ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant.

Same problem occurred when converted into word file.
I convert the PDF into txt as I need to use the txt format for running some analyses (and I have thousands of such PDF).
However, I found the same problem even if I use the original PDF file, so I am seeking the solution.
Actually the PDF can be converted to any format if the problem can be solved! Thank you.

- automatic DOP: Computed Degree of Parallelism is 1 because of parallel thresholdI am not sure the why elapsed time in AWR is different with time in execution plan. Column "Time" in an execution plan is estimated time. In this execution plan Oracle expects to get 1 row, estimated time is 1 sec.
So, you need to check why estimated cardinality is such low, check statistics on the table WORK_PAY_LINE.
You update 10Gb from 16Gb table via Index Range Scan, it looks inefficient here by two reasons:
1. when a table updated via Index Range Scan optimized index maintenance is used. As a result some amount (significant in your case) of workareas is required. Required size depends on size and number of updated indexes and "global memory bound", 1Gb in your case.
2. if required table buffers will not be found in the cache it will be read from disk by single block reads. If you would use Full Table Scan then buffers for update most likely will be found in the cache because before it read by multiblock reads during Full Table Scan.
Figures from your AWR indicate, that only ~ 9% the session waited for I/O and 91% it worked and used CPU

I would propose to use Table Full Scan here.
Also you can play around and create fake trigger on update, it will make impossible to use optimized index maintenance, usual index maintenance will be used. As a result you can check the same update with the same execution plan (with Index Range Scan) but without optimized index maintenance and "direct path .. temp" wait events.

How to hide one block of data based on Filter selections

I have a requirement where I should show only one block based of filter selections provided at the Query Level.
How can I achieve that?

Lets say you have a optional filter and you want to show block 1 if value are inserted and block 2 if no value selected.
For this You can create a variable status =IsPromptAnswered("") it will return 1 if prompt is answered.
In block property go to the hide if below formula is correct and for block 1 give status =1 and block 2 give status=0

Stacked Canvas with one block displaying twice

I have a question regarding the Stacked Canvas. I have to create a calender for clients. (I am using stacked canvas to do that).
In the 'calender' table i would have the information like ClientID, Year, weekno, start date, end date.
So i created two blocks for 'Calender' table in this form. One block for Content canvas with ClientID and Year (Block1). And another block (Block2) on Stacked canvas for weekno, startdate and enddate.(normally there will be 52 weeks sometime 53 weeks)
On the Block1 it suppose to display the ClientID and Year once. And in the block2 (stacked canvas) it suppose to display 53 rows with weekno and the start/end dates.
When i create a new row in the block1 for clientid and year (1234, 2008) then the block2 will be populated with 01-jan-2008 to the 31-dec-2008. But the problem i am having is when i try to save it is trying to save two times one from block1 and once from block2 resulting in a unique constraint error.
how should i structure this so it saves only once?
I tried to keep the clientid and the year in block1 as non-database items and copied those values into the block2, that way it saves correctly but when i try to query on the upper block it gives me error.

But you only have one table. You need two tables for master-detail. Can you normalize the calendar table and change it to two tables (master-detail).

Might be you need to check the view position on canvas. Is it on the correct position.
In canvas you can display the view from view>show view. Then check if it is aligned correctly.

How to commit ONE block only...

Hi Guys,
I have 2 database blocks in my form. In one block user can select and enter fields from a LOV. And in other record he can enter new records and save. This is the most common senerio of my form.
But in some case he can enter new record in the first block and can enter new records in the second block.
The problem i am facing is that if user select an existing record from a LOV and then on the basis of these values he enter an other record in the second block.. COMMIT_FORM also tries to save the record in the first block and as the record already exists it gives error "unbale to insert record" i want to commit only the second block but in some cases i have to commit both blocks.
Kindly suggest me what to do please.

create an on-insert trigger at the block :
If your condition is met then
INSERT_RECORD;
ELSE
NULL;
END IF;
similary you can code on-update,on-delete triggers as per your requirement

How to convert each line in a multi-line paragraph to one separate paragraph

hi friends
imagine in a word 2013 document, we have this one paragraph :
i want each line in this paragraph have a bullet point, but the problem is when i select these four lines & click on bullet point button, only first line will have bullet point.
i do know that i can press enter after each line so that each line be converted to a separate paragraph but need a method or trick so that i select the entire paragraph & by clicking on something, it be divided to 4 paragraphs at once.
i googled for "converting one paragraph to multiple" but didn't find any helpful stuff

I suspect the suggestion you've got from Hans is as elegant as you're going to get.
Personally I tend to opt for making the first line into a bullet, then at the end of the line hit return (you'll get a bulleted empty line and your second line of text bulleted), then press Delete to pull the second line of text back up into its original
place (while keeping the bullet). Repeat that for each line until they all have their bullet points, while remaining in their original format (eg without a massive space between each of them).
But that's only because I hadn't seen Hans' method before! :-)

How do I make one block shrink as another grows to replace it?

I'm trying to show some sort of Magic Move or Action event that show two objects in slide one that become one object in slide two when Object A shrinks to nothing and Object B grows to fill the space vacated by the absence of A.
In other words, say I have two mutual funds, Fund A with 26k in and Fund B with 24k. I want to automate the sale of Fund B by having it shrink to zero while Fund A simultaneously increases to 50 as the money from the sale of Fund A is reinvested into Fund B.
I tried a Magic Move which successfully grew Fund A but it failed to shrink Fund B to zero - instead it just made it disappear. I want the shrinking action to look like the growing action, only in reverse. If I used the Action Build each action followed on from the last, the rectangle didn't shrink along its length, but towards its centre, and each part move needed a spacebar or arrow key click to activate that process.
I'm using rectangular blocks to represent the Fund values.
Any suggestions/ideas?

How do I keep a paragraph on one page?

Hi,
I have FrameMaker 10 and Windows 7 and I'm a newbie, having worked with InDesign. I've reviewed the answers in the forum that include instructions about the paragraph designer, but those solutions, such as keep with paragraph, orphan lines, etc., don't help.
Sometimes when I'm typing, the next line jumps to the beginning of the next page even though there's plenty of the current page left. I guess I must say that this happens when I'm typing into a document that also has material following. This material usually seems to be an anchored frame. I've looked at the anchored frame parameters, tried every option, and still I'm stumped. Right now I'm using a workaround; a paragraph style with a font of one point that I insert where necessary to force things to stick together. Otherwise, my broken line often travels below the anchored frame. BTW, when I backspace before the line, more material from the previous page jumps down, instead of that piece of sentence being backspaced back up.
Also, in Indesign it's very easy to size content into the frame. In FM I'm always shift-dragging to picture after import, to get it to the size of the frame. Is there a better way to do this?
Also, is there a way to change the defaults? I never want the frame to be cropped but the checkbox is checked and I have to uncheck it every time.
Also is there a keyboard shortcut for getting a page break to the next page? The popup is very annoying. I don't even know what 'wherever it fits' means; doesn't a page break mean, the next page? And how can I get the default to change to 'next page' or better still get rid of that box altogether?
There is no symbol for a page break, so what happens if I want to remove one? Does this happen automatically if a break is no longer necessary? Maybe this is connected to my paragraphing problem?
I hope you experts out there can make some sense out of my questions. PLEASE help, these things are driving me crazy!! Thank you so much in advance.
PS This also has nothing to do with master pages or the template; I'm working in a very smooth template that was prepared by experts. (Luckily.)

This is probably not the answer to all your questions, but I am sure it answers some.
Unlike Word and InDesign, FrameMaker's anchored frames, which hold graphics, "hang" from their insertion points, typically at the end of the paragraph. An anchored frame that follows a paragraph is set to be below the line, the line being the last line in the paragraph. If you turn on View > Text Symbols, you will see a marker that indicates the point from which the anchored frame is hanging.
If the anchored frame is taller than the available space, it is moved to the next page ALONG with that last line. If the paragraph style/tag has a widow/orphan lines number that is more than 1, then that number of lines are also moved to the next page, because the paragraph tag says to keep that many together, EVEN if there is space at the bottom of the previous page.
So, you can set the widow/orphan lines number smaller OR as you have done put a blank line before the anchored frame, which now holds the marker for the anchored frame, and set its font size to 2 pt (the lowest FrameMaker allows) and its line height to zero. This is the standard workaround UNLESS you use the line above the anchored frame as the title/caption of a figure, which is also a typical way of dealing with FrameMaker's ways.
To my knowledge, one cannot change the default of the checked cropped box. Maybe others know of some way to change this.
There is no page break in FrameMaker, hence there is no symbol for it. In the paragraph designer for the paragraph, you set to Start of the paragraph to Top of page. Top of page is FrameMaker's equivalent to a page break. To "remove" a page break, set the Start of the paragraph to Anywhere.
Since you are new to FrameMaker, I suggest reading throught the User Manual that comes with FrameMaker. You will likely find the answers to most of your questions there.

[AS] Applescript - Duplicate paragraph from one text frame to end of second text frame?

Working in InDesign CS5
Still banging my head against the wall over this last bit of code I need to figure out to finish a much larger script. What I'm looking to do is take a paragraph ('contents' from looping in larger script) from one text frame and duplicate it to the END of a second text frame (represented by 'Ad_Box'). The only thing I've gotten to semi-work is this:
set insertion point -1 of Ad_Box to contents
The problems with the above script are:
1. Minor problem (can be worked around in InDesign CS5) - The script does not keep the formatting from the original paragraph that I want duplicated. The paragraph style of all "inserted" paragraphs is set to default
2. The big problem - When the second text frame is too small for a particular word in original paragraph, the paragraph is moved to the wrong position in the text frame when the script completes, which is moving 4 paragraphs in total (this one baffles me). In other words, if I'm running script to be p1, p2, p3, p4 and p2 had a word too long to fit in text frame, on completion it will look like p1, p3, p4, p2.
This is why I'm hoping to use the DUPLICATE command in some capacity, but I'm stumped. I set up a dialogue prompt to help me debug, and whenever I use the DUPLICATE command my script skips right over the dialogue, so I know it's not reading properly. This is what I've tried with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mary, you were absolutely correct!! This fixes the problem of placing the contents into the wrong spot, AND it runs the script much faster too! Thank you.
However it is still not carrying over my "applied paragraph style" that is on "contents". Does 'insertion point' not work this way?
What looks like is happening is that in the InDesign app, whatever my default selected paragraph style is is what the insertion point type is placing as.
I might try to set my applied paragraph style after the "last insertion point" call and see if that works. I'll update this reporting results

Can you add comments to the XML reports other than one Block Comment and one Test Comment?

I know how to use Block Comments and Test Comments but if I need to add more comments to my XML report in a test other than one Test comment, is there a way to do this? In other words, I would like to be able to add say 5 comment lines for a single test. Also, can a Test Comment or Block comment be more than one line in length? If so, how do you do that?

What version of TS do you have? If you have 4.1 or better (might be possible in 4.0 I can't remember) you can just use the additional results. So in the step properties you will see Additional Results. Then just add as many as you want.
Then you will see it show up in the report like you want. I couldn't get multiple lines to work in one comment. I tried \n but that didn't seem to be supported here.

When moving from one block to another with mouse, information is being lost

I have a program with 2 blocks (B1 and B2). These blocks are NOT related to database tables.
Let's suppose I'm filling a field at B2 block, and after changing this field's value, I keep cursor stopped at it. If I use mouse to move to B1 block, information just changed at the field of B2 block is lost.
How can I solve this?

All was going well, but disaster has struck! When I came to step 7/8 Iselected the iTunes library in the iTunes folder and it loaded - but it was not the current one. I recognised the items in it, but there were just a few hundred, whereas my current collection amounts to over 6000 'songs' as iTunes calls them. And in fact a majority of the music is no longer on my C:\ or F:\drives.
I closed ITunes down and decided to compare by looking at my original iTunes folder (I had of course followed your instructions and had up to now been working with the "new iTunes" folder). As I repeated steps 7/8 I saw a message on the screen about "updating" - and imagine my horror - Iwas presented again with the OLD list.
So I've really screwed up and I don't know how to access my up-to-date collection at all. You'll see on the screenshot below that 4 files were created or modified within a few minutes of each other on 8th June when I was doingthis work. I've looked at the XML file and it appears to correspond to the listof music I saw in iTunes, and it's the same content as the XML file of 1/1/09.
My only hope is that the file (there is only one) inside the folder "Previous iTunes libraries" : iTunes Library 2011-06-08.itl is the listing of my current 6000+ songs and can be resurrected so that I can have another go at what I was trying to do in the first place. But I don't want to do anything more - out of fear! - before asking your advice.
