Paragraph palette is blank?

Why is my paragraph palette blank in CS3? For some reason I cant seem to get the paragraph palette to display the normal format options. I have the paragraph format options in the top menu but would like to have them in the palette. any ideas how to change this?
oh by the way I have deleted prefs and restarted indesign but nothing happens

Space Before/After Not Refreshing in Paragraph Palette

Hi, I'm using Illustrator CS4 and am frustrated that in the paragraph palette, when I select text with specific settings for space before or space after, these values do not refresh to what is applied to the text. The values just remain at the last setting that I input or something. So I have no way of determining what the space before or space after is on different chunks of type. And if I try to adjust the settings up or down (using the arrows), it will jump to whatever setting is displayed (which is not what is actually applied to the type.
- Has anyone else ever experienced this behavior?
- Any workarounds?
- Any other ways to detect the actual values applied to the text?

are you selecting the text Frame? if the palette shows the last used settings it means the whole textFrame has no custom spacing applied. If you see nothing, it means mixed settings.
you need to place the cursor inside a paragraph in order to be picked up by the palette.

Missing Character/Paragraph Palette after reinstallation of AI CS 11

Missing character palette after reinstallation of AI CS 11. My desktop computer crashed and I installed the program on my laptop which is running WINDOWS VISTA. The character/paragraph palette is missing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, but I already tried that. Doesn't work. There is a problem when you reinstall AI that this happens. The typical fixes for earlier versions of deleting the AIprefs folder don't work as AI changed after AI 10 and the prefs are spread out. I appreciate your reply, though.

My color palette is blank

for some reason my color palette is blank. I tried switching between RGB, lab and CMYK, but nothing shows up. See screen shot. What am i doing wrong, does anyone know how to fix this?

You have something else seriously wrong, by the sound of things. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4199358#4199358 for some instructions on getting a hang report and converting the hang into a crash (and getting that report as well) that you can post on Pastebin.com, and maybe we can see what's wrong.

PSE 9 Help! My effects palette is blank! Also help installing actions..

Maybe these two problems are related?
I am new to PSE 9 but I was using 8 until now. I have great Actions that worked beautifully in PSE 8. I am trying to install them the same way for PSE 9 but I seem to be missing a whole folder.
The path I take is:
Library>Application Support>Adobe>PSE>9.0>Locale>
Then All there is is a "Photo Creations Thumbnails" folder which is empty.
Do I need to reinstall PSE?
Also, My effects palette is totally blank! Nothing there to click on!

I ended up Uninstalling and Re-installing. The effects palette is working fine now-but I am still unable to install my actions for some reason.
I went the same route and found the Photo Creations folder, copy pasted my actions.. When I opened PS, they were not there.
I went back and looking in the Photo Creations folder and the actions were not there. I RE-copied them in the folder and it said they were already there?
Weird.
I clicked to replace the old ones, and I still do not actually see them in the folder.
What the heck?

InDesign CS4 Hyperlinks palette is blank

I want to add hyperlinks to an InDesign CS4 document. I selected some text, opened the hyperlinks palette, and ... there are no UI elements showing on the palette. It's just completly empty or blank. Yet the instructions tell me to click on the link icon etc.
Have pity on me if I am missing something really really obvious here. But what's up?

Thanks both! I reset the preferences per Adobe's instructions and the panel is now working. I was worried that my custom workspace would be lost but it survived.
Also, a comment for Windows users -- the directions say:
(Windows) Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
(Mac OS) While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
I thought this wasn't working but found that it works fine if you press Shift+Ctrl+Alt IMMEDIATELY as the app begins to load (don't wait until it's up and running).

Align palette is blank even with two or more objects selected

InDesign CS3 (5.0.2), Mac OS 10.4.10
In InDesign, I will click on two or more ungrouped objects that need to be aligned, and get only a blank align palette. In the tool bar atop, sometimes the align options are showing, sometimes they disappear when I click a second or different object.
I have trashed my preferences twice since I first experienced the problem.
I did not have any align palette problems in CS2. Please advise.

IDCS3 Separations Preview palette is blank

One of my users is experiencing a problem with Separations Preview not displaying any plates. The palette is completely blank and all options are greyed out.
Also, using keyboard shortcuts to access the plate previews doesn't do anything either.
I have tried opening a document exhibiting the problems on another machine with essentially the same software setup and the Seps palette displays normally on there so I know it isn't a document issue.
I've also tried deleting all InDesign preferences from ~/Library/Preferences to no avail.
The computer is an Intel iMac running 10.5.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Your help will be much appreciated.

Missing paragraph data in the paragraph palette

When I select type the data in the paragraph and character palettes does not update to reflect the attributes of the selected text. I restarted Illustrator and it fixed it once, but then it came back to haunt me and the restart fix isn't working now.

Try to reset the Illustrator preferences:
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.
Remove or rename the AIPrefs file (Windows) or Adobe Illustrator Prefs file (Mac OS). New preferences files are created the next time you start Illustrator.note: It is safe to remove the entire Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings folder. This folder contains various preferences that can be regenerated.
Please let me know in case it doesn't worked.

Character palette flashes blank window

When I try to use the Character Palette by pulling down the "flag" menu, a blank window appears and randomly flashes.
I tried trashing the com.apple.IntlDataCache files in the System/Library/Caches folder, but that didn't solve the problem.
I also reinstalled Leopard. The problem is still there. (I have not installed the updates, yet.)
What now, Coach?

There are a few other plists that you can eliminate.
Missing character palette: true easy solution, may provide a solution to your problem.

Help, my character styles palette is blank.

Styles do not show up even whenI open older files. Cannot cerate new styles either. Anyone know about a solution to this?

JDev10g Data Control Palette - Blank

1) I have used jDev10g to follow a tutorial on Struts BC4J ADF JSP
2) Successfully run the JSP to browse thru the records.
3) Now the jDev IDE "data control palette" is blank. I can close and re-open using the menu View but the contents of the palette remain blank.
Of course, a blank data control palette is a problem to me. I can create a new Application and gen new BC4Js and the data control palatte appears with content in the new app.
I am using OS: Win XP, jDev10g preview 90500 bld 1375.
Any suggestions/comments? Thanks

A colleague of mine has the same problem.
If I am not mistaken, the contents of the Data Control Palette are based on the DataBindings.cpx file, so I suppose a "Refresh" of the Data Control Palette (from its context-menu) would check the DataBindings.cpx file. But a "Refresh" had no result, the Data Control Palette stayed empty.
Could someone tell us what to check, to enable the Data Control Palette to find all the information it needs to show the data controls?

How to set the indent for an entire paragraph without shortcut

I recently got told how to let the whole paragraph have an indent on the left side, just like the first line via Cmd+´(German version of InDesign). Is there also a menu command that does this? I don't like using shortcuts until I know what I'm actually doing. Is it true that the word spacing can only be done via shortcut? Is it the same here? What else is there, that can only be done via shortcut (and why)?

You can set indents in the Paragraph palette. If you want a first line indent, like a normal paragraph in a book or magazine, just change the First Line Indent. If you want a hanging indent, like on a bulleted list, then set the Left Indent first then make the First Line Indent a negative value.

Keep a paragraph on the same page as the previous paragraph

I know I can keep a paragraph on the same page as the next paragraph but I need to create a paragraph style that keeps a paragraph of the same page as the PREVIOUS paragraph. Is there anyway to do this?
I used to be able to do it using my "old" M$ Windows DTP package.

This works. Here is a screen shot from Pages with "Show Invisibles" (the blue spaces and paragraph marks):
Line spacing is set in Inspector to add space after each paragraph without adding blank lines (it's better that way).
Dish Title, all descriptions, Price and the blank line below are set to "Keep with following paragraph".
Do not include the final blank line (which is really blank) in this linking.
Type this in Pages. Copy everything and then repeatedly Paste. See if the new pages appear as you want them.

Crash/lock when use special symbol palette in iDVD 6

I tried to use the special symbol palette to try to insert special language characters in the comments on a picture in a slide show. On choosing special symbols from the menu line (Edit) all seemed to be fine until I tried to choose another category of symbol from the palette.
At that point the symbol palette goes blank or only part of the information is visible and I can not close or move it. Often iDVD also locks and I have to force the application to quit.
After that, the blank symbol palette keeps popping open (then closing) when working with other applications. Cold restarts do not cure the problem. Only solution I have found to stop the annoying pop up of the palette is to delete the file in user preference (com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist)
I try to do the same operation again with the same results. Do not know if this is a new problem or long standing since I had never used the palette before with iDVD. I can clear the created problem with the hanging palette, but the palette is esentially unusable. Character palette seems to be ok when using it from the international keyboard menu.
(The reason to try to use the palette was I could not paste names in a language that do not use Mac's standard diacriticals. Why is there no font menu choice or ability to paste a name from another application that has font menus?)

Wow-totally missed that-sorry. I guess i assumed that you didn't do that because that is about the only thing that I know of to fix it.
