Paragraph Spacing Bug?

Whenever I open a fla in CS5, any classic text paragraph spacing that was a negative value is set to 0.  Has anyone else experienced this?
My version is 11.0.2.489.

It happened at http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/How-do-I-get-rid-of-home-profile-call-area-on-r... yesterday immediately after accepting the answer. It also persisted on page reload after editing the answer post.
But it no longer seems to be the case there, which is weird, unless somebody changed something.
The next time it happens I will grab a screenshot and a link and some more details about the css. I should have the first time but I didn't think it was going to be a transient issue.
Was using Chrome 43 on Windows 7.

    Thanks.
It is a layout problem that seems to be affecting most users.
    There, but overlooked.
Hope the Apple programmers are paying attention.
I am really curious why they seem to be doing no independent testing and checking. At least none that shows.

  • My tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

On pages, my tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

The Inspector Icon does not have a "tab", it is just a shortcut button.
Menu > View > Show Inspector
command option i does the same thing showing and hiding the Inspector.
Because the Inspector/s are movable windows, if you can't see them they maybe somewhere off your screen or half tucked away partially out of sight.

  • How do I keep the paragraph spacing in tables?

    Hi,
I used a table and styles to format a CV in InDesign. Unfortunately the paragraph spacings are only applied in cells, but not inbetween them.
In the following table, for example, there would be a paragraph spacing between p1 and p2 but not between p2 and p3, and p3 and p4.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    p1
    p2
    p3
    p4
So far, I matched the cell indents with the paragraph spacings, but creating a cell style for each paragraph style seems weired to me.
Is there a better way to do this?

Thank you. I don't use border lines and a column layout came to my mind. The reason why I didn't opt for it was that I did not know how to place the text like in the example below in columns - well at least not conveniently.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 1
    blablabla
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 2
    blablabla
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 3
    blablabla
Unfortunately, the fancy split and span functions aren't availabe for me, as I'm still using CS4.
Anyway, knowing that there is probably no better way already helps me. So again, thank you.
    You're welcome.
If this is the format you want, you can create a paragraph stye that uses an indention setting that positions the wrap-around "blablabla" content where you want it, and sets the first-line indent to a negative amount equal to the positive indent. For example, if the blahblah should start at 4" from the left, the first-line indent should be set to -4". Also include a left-aligned tab stop position of 4" so that when you type a tab character after the date, the Experience starts at the same 4" indent. This is called a "hanging paragraph."
Search Google for terms like "InDesign hanging paragraph tutorial" without quotes for more about this technique.
For the different vertical position of the left column's text vs. the right column's text, you can create a character style that sets the baseline shift in Advanced Character Formats to a minus value that gives you the look you want. If your right-column paragraphs run longer than 2 lines, you'll need to modify the baseline shift to suit the centering against the right column. You can create paragraph styles named 2-line shift, 3-line shift, etc for this effect. You can apply the character style to the selected left-column text manually, or you can incorporate the character styles into the paragraph styles by using the Nested Styles feature in the Drop Caps and Nested Styles pane of the Paragraph Styles panel. You'll need a paragraph style for each different number of experience wrap-around lines; for example paragraph styles named 2-line experience, 3-line experience, etc. In each of these styles, create the nested style for the appropriate number of experience lines.
Search Google for terms like "InDesign nested styles tutorial" without quotes for more about this technique.
There's a lot you can do with tailoring your text. Usually styles are helpful for repeating any things you'd need to do manually, but often folks avoid styles because they take some time to set up. When you choose New Paragraph Style, the settings of the paragraph that contains the cursor are used, so you can easily save any manual work you've done to tailor a paragraph into the style you create. Consider the effort of creating styles as an investment that pays you back many times over, each time you use the styles.

  • How do I change the paragraph spacing before and after paragraphs in Pages for iOS

Being experienced in writing technical documents, I would like to know if there is any way I can setup paragraph styles with a specific spacing before and/or after paragraphs in Pages for iOS. You can do this in the normal Pages for Mac OS. Setting line spacing in Pages for iOS is not a very accurate way of formatting a document so that it looks good on a page.

    Hello James
I have realised this, but this is a long winded way of doing things and inconvenient if you want to create a new document using an iPad. To me paragraph spacing is one of the essentials when creating documents. It makes a document more readable and look more professional. For Apple to miss this out of iOS Pages is a huge error. Pages should be similar across all platforms where you can use Pages which will greatly overall compatibility, especially if you are exporting to other formats.

  • Why is my paragraph spacing not appearing?

In order to use Lion features, I'm attempting to switch from Word to Pages. I opened a document with quite a bit of formatting. Most of it switched over, except (I thought) the paragraph spacing, but when I went to adjust the headings, the spacing says it's the same as in word (240 pt before 30 after) but on the document all the headings are at the top of the page.
Changing the paragraph spacng doesn't help, they're still not showing up. How can I fix this?

Spacing before works differently in Pages, it is ignored at the top of the page, which I consider the correct behavior.
If you want to start Chapters half way down the page you may be better off inserting a paragraph return just before the chapter start or using a Layout break along with Inspector > Layout > Layout > Layout Margins > Before

  • Changing Paragraph Spacing in the Title window

How can I change the paragraph spacing in Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro Title Window?  When I adjust the Leading, the lines are too close together while the space between my lines (after I hit ENTER) is still too far.
    Must figure this out!
Thank you in advance for your help!
    SportStir

Yes, you are correct, but I would like the ability to adjust the spacing between the lines independently.
In the example below, all lines are spaced equally between them, so the spacing between lines 3&4 looks appropriate.  However, I would like to make the spacing between lines 1&3 and 4&6 about half a lines worth of space, while keeping the same spacing between lines 3&4.
    1. Title
    2.
    3. Blah blah blah
    4. blah blah blah
    5.
    6. more blah blah blah
Hope this helps further explain my dilemma.
    Thanks again in advance,

  • [JS] [CS5] Possible to change "Paragraph Spacing Limit" with a Script

    Hi,
right now I'm writing a simple script which formats some text. For this formatting I need the vertical Justification "Justify" with a "Paragraph Spacing Limit" but I can't find something helpful.
Does anyone know how to set the limit to a specific value?

    That is a textFramePreferences property

  • Best way to set up paragraph spacing for long documents

Hi everyone. I'm getting back to using Indesign again. I'm constructing large ancillary materials and the editors don't like the in between paragraph spacing through out the entire document. I used styles but there are many different formatting styles throughout the document. I found instead of doing this globally, I had to go in and adjust everything manually using the paragraph palette. Anyone have any ideas for the next time I set up a document? _struggling in monterey

Styles are definitely the right way to go. Set up spacing in the styles, and it can be adjusted or removed globally.
Is it possible that you aligned to a baseline grid (which would make sense in a long doc in many cases, and you have styles that use different leading? You need to be very careful about grids, leading and spacing to be sure that all the numbers add up or you can wind up with some really large gaps.

  • "Before Paragraph" Spacing Broken?

    Hello,
The "before paragraph" spacing setting works when there is a preceding paragraph, but not if the text is the first line of the document, or if it starts a new page. I would like to make a story title appear a ways down the page using this feature, and of course, the title will be on a new page. Thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Michael Morrison

    Michael,
I can see why it seems inelegant to you. When I first started with Pages 1, on the first day it was released, I created my own template for novel writing. I put in all the styles, then saved them with names (indented paragraph, title, centered text, etc.), and created title pages for about 15 chapters. Then I saved it as a template. I'd suggest you do something similar. It took me a grand total of about 15 minutes to do it, and it was time well spent, because I never have to futz around with concerns like Space Before, text boxes, and carriage returns again.

  • If I hit enter to go to a new line it's double spaced(BUG)

if I hit enter to go to a new line it's double spaced even thought it's set to single space.
in the inspector "T" the "LINE" says 1 and single. I can change the line spacing to look like 1 by sliding it down to 0.01 to look like 1 of single but that's pretty tedious.
    So it's a bug yeah?
The part that's messed up was add in from notes app which is the problem I'm guessing. Still it's a bug.
I've tried copying into a new pages doc and still no go.
    Anyway ideas around this bug?
    thanks

Probably just had an extra return at the end of paragraph, which is a common style in Notes.

  • Marker spacing (bug?)

I have a program that periodically gets updated with different z scale intensity graph max and min values (which are used to establish the range of a color table) .  I want the user to have the option of specifying the number of marker intervals but I seem to have run into a bit of a bug.  As it turns out, "uniform marker spacing" is not in fact uniform if the scale goes into the negative range.  It seems that the scale must always increment with respect to the 0 marker regardless of where i specify the start range property to be.
Case in point, look at the VI I've attached.  I have a scale from - 100 to 100, and I try to divide it into 5 even intervals. Ideally, the scale markers would just read 100, 60, 20, -20, 60, 100.  Instead, because it chooses to always use 0 as the increment reference, it reads 100 80, 40, 0, 40, 80, -100.  Does anyone know of a way around this?

I haven't tested the following theory:
A scale has 5 properties: Min, Max, Major Increment, Minor Increment, Start.
I think that the Start will allways be at a marker value, so I think that changing the Start to 'Min' will get you where you want.

  • Paragraph format bug?

When applying a paragraph format by clicking in the paragraph, then right-clicking to see a list of paragraph tags, and selecting one -- it doesn't work right. When applying a paragraph tag using the Paragraph Catalog, it works fine.
Is this a known bug in FrameMaker 10?

    No its not a bug.
Press ctrl+m and open the paragraph designer and try and apply from there.

  • Is paragraph spacing missing from the new Keynote?

In the new Keynote, how can I alter the spacing of paragraphs in a text box, so as to fill the slide for instance?
This was possible in the previous Keynote. Has this feature gone?

In the previous Keynotes it was possible to set the spacing before and after paragraphs.  Now all I can see is spacing between lines not paragraphs.  There is Text inspector in the format menu of my Keynotes 6.  In the format bar (something like what used to be inspector I think) there is provision to change the line spacing but I have not been able to find anything to change the spacing before and after paragrphs.

  • Changing paragraph spacing with CSS

    Hello there
How can I change (if possible) the spacing a web browser
renders between two paragraphs. The only way i know how is to use
the line-height property, but this also affects the line spacing
    within the paragraph.
    Thanks

    Use margin-top and/or margin-bottom on the p tag.
Padding can also be used but margin is better.
