Paragraph styles applied to forms created in InDesign

Paragraph styles which I have applied to text fields of forms created in InDesign seem to work well in Acrobat Pro, except styles relating to bulleted and numbered lists. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? What is the solution, if any?

I believe that if you name the form field the same name on multiple pages they should fill with the same values.
However, I'm not a form expert. You would do well to ask these questions in the Acrobat Forms forum here:
Forms
While InDesign is being used to create the form, it doesn't really control the process. This is done in Acrobat so that's where you should ask your technical questions.

    hi
    good
You can create additional fonts and style with transaction SMARTSTYLES
This can then be define in the paragraph and character formats, which you can then be assign to texts and fields in the Smart Form.
The character formats includes effects such as superscript, subscript, barcode and font attributes.

  • How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)?

How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)? This form will serve as an employment application on a website. The goal is to have any person (interested in applying for a job via the Internet) access, complete and electronically sign the form upon submission.

    Hi,
Via createPDF you would not be able to electronic sign the PDF form, you would either require Adobe Reader or purchase Adobe Acrobat to sign the PDF.

  • Multiple record data merge into paragraph styles-applies the wrong style

Hi, I've been working on this project for sometime and everytime I manage to get one part of the workflow to work another seems to break. My agency publishes catalogs in multiple formats: large-print, audio, braille, and HTML. I've been trying to redesing our work process so that the catalogs will be laid out from merged data out of comma-separated file. The data merges have worked fairly well in Word, but InDesign is a challenge. I'm merging multiple records on a page, like a mailing label. The paragraphs need to be formatted and I'm trying to apply a paragraph style to them. After much work, I think I've finally got the data merge to work correctly, but the wrong paragraph styles are applied. I'm going to apply a new master page to the data once the data is merge that uses the paragraph styles for text variable running headers and I need to build a table of contents based on the paragraph styles so I need this to work. Attached are some screenshots.
Master page set up for data merge with paragraph styles:
Here is the merged document with the wrong paragraph styles applied:
I have only a few weeks to get this process ironed out to keep to our rigorous production schedule. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
    thanks,
    Lina

I don't remember this happening in past versions. But I mainly use XML. And a quicky test converting your file to XML worked fine (and besides, it ends up all in continuous text frames...).
I don't do much GREP. But you can do this via a Find/Replace.
First, in your main document, you can delete the tags--but do this on a second copy of your working file!
Change your Content Placement options to not remove blank lines (these are in the Datamerge panel).
Then after the merge, change the format of the two blank lines at the beginning of the records without the two lines of data:
Note the Change Format style is changing those two paragraphs to Title.
Then rerun the find to remove the two blank paragraphs.
I suspect this can be done easier. I am sitting awaiting an appointment and cannot go much further than this for now, sorry.

  • InDesign CC is bringing in style sheets from Word and other places that I copy type from, like email, Acrobat. In InDesign CS4, whenever I brought in text from outside it assumed the paragraph style applied to the waiting text box. The loss of this functi

I used to be able to get text from a Word doc (copy it), and then go into my CS4 InDesign file and paste it into a waiting box that had a paragraph style assigned to it and boom, it would take on the assigned paragraph style of that text box. Now it brings in the style from wherever the text came from. If the font looks similar to what was there it can be too hard to tell that it's different. When you are working on a book with 200 pages and copying text from Word docs and dropping it in here and there in InDesign, it causes alot of extra work and problems.
In fact I have lost alot of security functions I used to have in CS4 in CC2014 in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat and it is making me want to go back to CS4 in a hurry.

I actually FINALLY found the answer!!!! In the preferences area you choose Clipboard Handling and then you choose "Text Only" under When Pasting Text and Tables from Other Applications (see photo).

  • Acrobat Pro collapse after trying to adjust my pdf form created in Indesign 6

I want to change the font type in in pdf form which I created in Indesign, while attempting to do so, Acrobat Pro collapse and shut down....what's the problem?
    Regards,
    Marieke

When you fix it in Acrobat, what you want to do specifically is remove whatever action is present in the button and add a "Submit a form" action to the Mouse Up event. Specify that you want to submit the entire PDF and use the mailto URL you showed earlier, making sure there are no spaces.
For it to work in desktop versions of Reader prior to 11, you need to Reader-enabled the document by selecting: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
The button won't work with the native iOS PDF viewer, but certain other PDF viewers such as Adobe Reader and Readdle's PDF Expert allow you to email a filled-in form and will support the button action.

  • Are the fillable pdf forms created in InDesign compatible with iPads?

I have been producing complex fillable forms using LiveCycle which work fine in most circumstances but we're running into more and more complaints from iPad users who can't open, complete, save the forms. From my research I see that there is an incompatibility with the XFA form created by LiveCycle and the iPad software.
I design my forms in InDesign anyway and just discovered that I can author the fillable fields using InDesign as well. It would be a giant time saver if I can use one program to create my forms but the question remains, will fillables authored in InDesign be compatible with the iPad? And secondly, Does anyone know if InDesign has equal flexibility in creating all the special objects and their behavior that LiveCycle has?

I believe that if you name the form field the same name on multiple pages they should fill with the same values.
However, I'm not a form expert. You would do well to ask these questions in the Acrobat Forms forum here:

  • Autofill date in PDF form created in InDesign CC

I am creating a form using InDesign CC which I will convert into an interactive PDF. I would like it to automatically fill in the date into the date field and add 7 days and fill in that date into a second field. Does anyone know how this can be done?

you will have to add a respective bit of JavaScript code in Acrobat.

  • Form Created in InDesign doesn't open in FormsCentral

I'm relatively new to FormsCentral and I'm having a difficult time getting it work. I was supplied a form from my client. I took the PDF form into InDesign CS6 because there was some other changes that needed to be made. I added all the form fields and exported as an interactive PDF. When I try to open it or import it into FormCentrals, I get this error:
FormsCentral could not import the PDF document because there was an error parsing the document.

Same issue. I'm new to Acrobat & pretty new to Forms Central.
I took a form from MSWord 2010 and convert to form in Acrobat XI. When I try to either "Distribute" from Acrobat via Forms Central, or even to "Import a PDF Form" from Forms Central, I get the same error message:
"FormsCentral could not import the PDF document because there was an error parsing the document."
I reviewed the article here on issues encountered while importing an existing PDF form but I don't see that there should be a conflict.
Before anyone comments, I do not have InDesign and wasn't grandfathered into LiveCycle.
Wanting to publish and put to use this week so would love any trouble-shooting tips!

  • How to change paragraph style

I have a text frame selected and it contains a story having various pargraph styles applied.
I want to get name of each paragraph style applied in it and replace each with some other styles.
But when I am applying style only one style is applied to whole text frame .(i.e all existing styles are replaced with a single style).
Please help me , if there is any way.
    Thanks

It was not a criticism of your design choices. You have misread my comments, I am simply warning you from long experience. We have no idea of what you do or don't know, most people who come here have little and it is safer to assume they have none.
Creating a Textbox, which is randomly sized and placed and contains no text, is not dissimilar to having a Textbox already in the document with Placeholder text in it that you click on and it is replaced by whatever you type. If your client is quite familiar with Pages they must be familiar with using Placeholders and with duplicating and resizing objects as required. It is just a way of getting around your problem.
Obviously you have done something else, or you would not be getting the results you have. I keep my version of Pages 5.5.3 as installed for testing, I don't know what you have done that is different and can't tell without having the file.
If you want me to look, email me via my blue name. If not, that's fine too.

  • Do paragraph style overrides work differently in CS3 vs CS4?

    Hi All-
I’m in the process of moving a workflow from CS3 to CS4, and have run into an unexpected problem. In the existing CS3 workflow, we receive copyedited text with Word paragraph styles applied, then import this text into our InDesign template. This template has all the same paragraph style names as the Word file, so we tell InDesign to use the InDesign style definitions in the Import options. So, for instance, the Word style for Para_Text is Times New Roman 12pt, and the InDesign style for Para_Text is Helvetica Neue 8pt, and on Import InDesign automatically changes it to Helvetica Neue 8pt. This is as we want it.
Things fall apart, however, when we import the same text into the same template in InDesign CS4. It still applies the InDesign style definition, but has additional overrides to make it look like the Word style definition. So, it recognizes that the underlying paragraph style should be Helvetica Neue 8pt, but it then preserves Times New Roman 12pt as an override. If I select the text and do Clear Overrides, it’ll revert to the Helvetica Neue 8pt we want it in, but for other reasons that solution is less than ideal.
I think I can come up with a rather kludgy way around this, but I’m trying to understand exactly why we’re getting the different behavior in CS4. It seems like paragraph style conflicts are being handled in a different way in CS3 than CS4 – in CS3, if the InDesign paragraph style specifically spelled out a font, that would dominate on import; now, in CS4, it’s allowing the Word paragraph style to seep through as an override. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    -Nate

    Hi Chris.
Good news. I cant tell you how happy i am for all your help ;-) and you other guys.
The latest Eizo 5.2.1 software fixed the problem on all 3 Eizo monitors.. Weeee
    I'm back to normal.
Now i just have another damn problem started not long ago ;(
My Photoshop CS3 and CS4 keeps crashing on me after a wile of work ???
I tried everything. Deleted preffs etc. etc.
It have been working for long long time but suddenly it keeps crashing all the time.
I tried to remove some new plug-ins, but it was not that.
Only thing i did also was to install new ram.
Upgraded from 10GB to 14GB in all our Mac Pro.
So after i tried to switch the ram around to check if some was bad.
Also run some memory software but everything came out right.
So now the only thing left is that Photoshop dosent like ram between 14GB & 16GB.
Under was fine and i never tried over 16 gigs.. weird
Any ide what could corse this ?

  • Table of contents isn't showing the paragraph style I've set it up with

I've made a table of contents in my document, and I've set up a character style called TOC body text, which has settings as belowL
However when I click OK to create the TOC, the text comes out in all caps size 24, like this:
This is the same as the style in which the headers appear on their pages within the document:
(NB I've typed the headers out in sentence case, then selected all caps here, rather than typing them out with caps lock on):
I want the headers on the contents page to appear the same style as the body copy throughout, however then seem to be retaining their header style.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Rebecca

Thanks for your reply! I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong though - at the moment I have TOC Body Text which is a paragraph style applied to the entry, and body which is a character style applied to the number and the between.  I think that's what you're suggesting, but I already have it set up like that and it's still not working?
    Thanks

  • Can automatic master application be scripted by paragraph style?

Help! I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a few days now. I could have sworn I've seen this done somewhere, but I can't find any references now. Someone suggested that it might be scriptable, so...
I'd like to conditionally select a specific master page template based on a paragraph style.
For example, the first paragraph style on every chapter in my book is "Title (Chapter)." When that paragraph style shows up, I'd like InDesign to automatically apply the appropriate master page template to that page, but default back to the standard master for all following pages.
Anyhow know how to do this?

    Hi
There is a solution from freelance book design but is not gree. A more basic script can be found by google searching for ApplyMasterpageToStyleCS5.
    I hope it helps...

  • Optical Margin Alignment in Paragraph Styles?

    Hello,
I'm currently redesigning a newsletter for a company. I have been setting up various Paragraph Styles for different areas of text. Is there any way that I can use the Optical Margin Alignment tool in a Paragraph Style so that all text applied to that style uses the same Optical Margin Alignment setting? I'd rather not have to manually select every single piece of text and set it that way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Laurence

    Hi Steve,
Yes, I thought that would be the case. I've read everywhere that it can only be "ignored" in Paragraph Styles. I'm still learning InDesign in some respect, so could you explain to me what you mean when you say "at the level of a story"?
Also, is there any rule of thumb for using the Optical Margin Alignment with text? Or is it a simple case of trial and error until you get good results?
