Paragraphs of text in credits...

I want to have several paragraphs for a thank you message in the credits section of my movie. Apart from Far Far Away, I can't find anything that suits blocks of text. Ideally I would like to use Scrolling but in the short time I experimented with it I could not get it to work well with blocks of text.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was checking this and scrolling does seem to be the best of a limited set of options. It's text is very customisable, but I couldn't see anything to change scroll speed. Somebody suggested you could make the title block a compound clip and re-time if the in-built speed doesn't suit.
Other options are to forget scrolling and have blocks appear one after the other..... or get Motion!

Keeping a picture together with a certain paragraph of text

I think this is probably a very rookie question but I am having a problem keeping my pictures where I want them. I need them to stay together with a certain paragraphs of text.
A- "Lock position" doesn't work. I don't care where in the doc. they are as long as they stay with the right text.
B- Anchored objects don't seem to be the answer, I want to do text wraps around the picture.

No, that's not a problem, as long as the anchor is in the right place. Use a "custom" andchored object, rather than inline, and make sure the anchor is in a line ahead of the ones you want to wrap. A custom anchored object can be moved anywhere on the page and will continue to move with the anchor point.
The illustration below shows two anchored objects with text wrap applied. The anchors are the first characters in the Notes: paragraph, and the postions are set as part of an object style that includes the text wrap, font (for the caption) and position information. The anchored object options dialog dispalyed is for the caption.
In this case I didn't need to worry about wrapping the top, but pushing the image down on the page gives you this:

I'm very late to the conversation but thought I'd chime in since I've just been dealing with this myself. One way to copy from Kindle books is to make sure that you have your settings to backup highlights etc. online, then highlight the text in the Kindle app, go to your Kindle webpage (https://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights) and copy the text from there.
Remember, to be able to do this you have to set the app to backup highlights etc. I think this is set individually for each book. On my iPad the default is to backup.

Acrobat X selection tool fails to detect paragraphs of text. Manually selected paragraphs have broken sentences with line breaks. This problem is also noticed when you attempt to triple click a paragraph and only one line of text is selected instead of a paragraph. Can this be fixed?

can't it tell by the visual formatting of indents, text proximity/clusters, etc? if humans can tell, why can't acrobat be trained to tell?

First, see Replace Your Preferences and do it for the original account.
If that fails to solve the problem, rename the two Adobe folders that contain the prefs in the user profile for that account and copy the folders from the new account where it works. You want to be sure you copy the folders, rather than merge the contents, so you must rename the old folders first.

Importing one hundred paragraphs of text

hi everyone.
we have a one hour audio file and we need to place text on the screen.
is there anyway to import a .word doc or text doc and have each paragraph appear as a separate text block in fcp?
we are trying to make a slideshow- sort of like keynote or powerpoint.
but we cant use those packages because we have lots of text....
anyway long story short, what are the options for importing paragraphs of text into fcp or motion?

Separating paragraph body text from level 3, 4 & 5 headings in the TOC

Hi,
Could anyone help me know how the paragraph body text is separated from level 3, 4, or 5 headings in heading styles?
The APA Manual, 6th edition says that these level headings are immediately followed by the paragraph body text; but if I do that
and put the headings in word styles, the text is also added! How do I separate them?

If you have been using an old APA template (there is one setup for Word 2003, for example), or you have started from an old document set up for APA styling, then the chances are tht the Heading styles are set up wrongly. In those days you had to do all that
stuff with hidden paragraph marks etc. You should not have to do that in Word 2010.
In the old templates, the Heading styles were set up as "Paragraph" styles. You can find out which sort yours are by opening the document you are struggling with, finding the relevant Heading style name in the Home tab, Styles group, right clicking on it
and selecting "Modify...". For the new type of Heading style, you should see Style Type "Linked (paragraph and character)". In an older template, you will just see "Paragraph".
In the latter case, when you select the part of the paragraph text that you want to be in the ToC and apply the Heading style, the style wil be applied to the whole paragraph. That's why you used to have to split the paragraph into two, and hide the paragraph
mark that follows the heading part. But with the correct style definitions, it should work the way I described.
Another possibility is that you have the correct "linked" styles but they have been disabled. If you click in the box at the bottom right of the Home->Styles group, you should see the list of styles, and there is a box at the bottom that controls that
behaviour.
If you are using an old template, then my suggestion is that you start with a new one document o template designed for Word 2010. I'll have a look, but you may have your own sources for that.

I am a little bit confused about the relations between Paragraph, Text and Word (concerning CS3).
1. What's the difference between Text and Paragraph or Text and Word?
2. From the ESTK it looks like any of them can contain every other... are there any assumptions about hierarchy that can be made?

A Paragraph is a stretch of text between two returns (paragraph marks).
A Word is something that InDesign is sometimes confused about: in the interface, double-clicking selects a word and selects all consecutive letters. In scripting, when you place the cursor somewhere in a word and run app.selection[0].words[0].contents you'll see that Word means "anything between two spaces, two em-dashes, or two en-dashes (or a combination of these)".
A Text is anything that's not a Paragraph, Word, or Character. Select half a paragraph and you'll get a Text; select several paragraphs and you'll get Paragraphs or Text, depending on how you select them: if the first and/or the last paragraph in the selection are not completely selected, you end up with a Text; if they are completely selected, you get Paragraphs.
As to hierarchy, a Story contains Paragraphs, which contain Words, which contain Characters. A Story also contains Text (or TextStyleRange, if there's any formatting present). A Text can contain Paragraphs (and therefore Words), and a single Paragraph can contain Text. So the hierarchy is clear and simple, apart from Text, which has a variable relationship with other text objects.
Some playing around with selections and running the single line app.selection[0] in the ESTK console is instructive.

Difficulty with pdf form trying to "choose" one of two paragraphs of text

I am creating a PDF form and trying to find a way to choose one of two groups of text that are about paragraph long. and only having the the one I choose be visible on my pdf. I tried using a dropdown list, but it would not accmodate the amount of text I needed

OK, the following is for a single check box and a single field. If the check box is checked the multiline text field will display one block of text, and if unchecked, it will display the other.
I'm goping to assume the text field is named "Text1". The Mouse Up JavaScript of the check box could then be:

I'm afraid FW is not the good tool to do page layout work
like making
brochures. It is intended to create Web graphics, where you
can't have
non-rectangular text flow anyway.
However, necessary tools are included in, say, Macromedia
Freehand, which
is print-oriented software.

Illustrator CS 6 won't paste into a text box/paragraph of text, instead pastes a new line of text in the upper left corner of my document. How can I get it to paste into the selected paragraph or highlighted text like normal?

I've done it a million times, I copy a selection of type...I select the type that I want to replace it with, and then I paste. Now, Illustrator will only paste the text as a "point text" (a single line) somewhere else on the artboard—it seems to always be the upper left corner of the art board.

In cases of sudden appearance of strangenesses, the list may be relevant, hopefully the easy part at the top.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

How can I add a whole paragraph of text to an IPad Numbers row?

I can add the text just fine, and the text wraps to the next line as I type it, but when I'm done only one row of text appears. If I change the row height, it creates a nice high row, but again only the first line appears at the bottom of the row.

Under the Format button ( the paintbrush) at the top of the screen turn on "Wrap text in cell".
