Paragraphs underneath a table corrupted...

Just in case anyone else has the misfortune to encounter this one...
Today the indent on pargraphs under a table I added suddenly had a greater indent for no obvious reason. Checked settings and HTML view no joy. Also re-applied style, tried formattiung as none and then re-applying. Also list of styles on drop down in toolbar dissapeared...
I removed the table and was then able to stabilise the offending paras. The table contained merged cells in the second column of two and would seem to have been the culprit.
Anyone else come across this one?

I haven't seen that one. Only random content being excluded from the topic when you apply a conditional tag to an entire table.

  • Paragraph Formatting in Tables - RH8 for HTML

    In working with paragraph formatting in tables, I find that whatever I set the Table Properties to be in terms of Flush Left, Centered, or Flush Right, that formatting is assigned to every paragraph within the table.
    So if I want to center the table on the page, then the text within every cell is also centered.
    Is this common to others?  What's the solution?

    Cracked it.
    I found different results with different browsers.
    IE8 and Opera = Text is centred in output
    FF and Chrome = Text is left aligned.
    That meant it had to be a browser issue so what could be different? The way they handle XHTML. Go to Tools > Options and tick Convert RH edited topics to HTML.
    The first test is that Preview will now display the text left aligned. Then generate an output and test in any browser, it should now be OK.

    I see that many Mac users are complaining about this problem with the Pages 5.0 update.
    Continue using the older version is not really an option . . . .

  • How to get only partial text of a paragraph into the table of content?

    Hi guys,
    currently I'm working on a manuscript based on the publication manual of the American Psychological Association.
    Unfortunately, there is some sort of heading that's placed right in front of further text. Here an example:
    +This is my heading.+ Now ordinary text formatted differently should follow.
    Does anyone here know, how to get the text of the heading (but not the following text) into the table of content? For as far as I know I can't format the heading as a different paragraph than the following text.
    By the way, I use pages'08.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Dennis,
    thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't work. I have created several unique styles. Problem is, I need two diferent styles in *one paragraph* - one style for the "heading", which is consistent to the APA manual not an own paragraph (sorry, not my idea...), and another style for the following text. As my example above shows, the heading is followed by usual text and I may not press return after the heading and switch to a new paragraph..
    It has to look exactly like this:
    +heading in italics.+ Now heading is followed by usual text without changing the paragraph or starting a new line. Blurb blurb blurb whatsoever blurb blurb. The text goes on an on and an on you see.
    I can't format the heading differently than the text (because if I try, the whole paragraph is formatted this way) and so I can't add just the heading to the TOC. Do you see what my problem is? Got any other suggestion?

  • How do I keep the paragraph spacing in tables?

    Hi,
    I used a table and styles to format a CV in InDesign. Unfortunately the paragraph spacings are only applied in cells, but not inbetween them.
    In the following table, for example, there would be a paragraph spacing between p1 and p2 but not between p2 and p3, and p3 and p4.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    p1
    p2
    p3
    p4
    So far, I matched the cell indents with the paragraph spacings, but creating a cell style for each paragraph style seems weired to me.
    Is there a better way to do this?

    Thank you. I don't use border lines and a column layout came to my mind. The reason why I didn't opt for it was that I did not know how to place the text like in the example below in columns - well at least not conveniently.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 1
    blablabla
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 2
    blablabla
    00/0000 - 00/0000
    Experience 3
    blablabla
    Unfortunately, the fancy split and span functions aren't availabe for me, as I'm still using CS4.
    Anyway, knowing that there is probably no better way already helps me. So again, thank you.
    You're welcome.
    If this is the format you want, you can create a paragraph stye that uses an indention setting that positions the wrap-around "blablabla" content where you want it, and sets the first-line indent to a negative amount equal to the positive indent. For example, if the blahblah should start at 4" from the left, the first-line indent should be set to -4". Also include a left-aligned tab stop position of 4" so that when you type a tab character after the date, the Experience starts at the same 4" indent. This is called a "hanging paragraph."
    Search Google for terms like "InDesign hanging paragraph tutorial" without quotes for more about this technique.
    For the different vertical position of the left column's text vs. the right column's text, you can create a character style that sets the baseline shift in Advanced Character Formats to a minus value that gives you the look you want. If your right-column paragraphs run longer than 2 lines, you'll need to modify the baseline shift to suit the centering against the right column. You can create paragraph styles named 2-line shift, 3-line shift, etc for this effect. You can apply the character style to the selected left-column text manually, or you can incorporate the character styles into the paragraph styles by using the Nested Styles feature in the Drop Caps and Nested Styles pane of the Paragraph Styles panel. You'll need a paragraph style for each different number of experience wrap-around lines; for example paragraph styles named 2-line experience, 3-line experience, etc. In each of these styles, create the nested style for the appropriate number of experience lines.
    Search Google for terms like "InDesign nested styles tutorial" without quotes for more about this technique.
    There's a lot you can do with tailoring your text. Usually styles are helpful for repeating any things you'd need to do manually, but often folks avoid styles because they take some time to set up. When you choose New Paragraph Style, the settings of the paragraph that contains the cursor are used, so you can easily save any manual work you've done to tailor a paragraph into the style you create. Consider the effort of creating styles as an investment that pays you back many times over, each time you use the styles.

    I also tried to use find and replace, but it didn't work either.
    I'm sure that you didn't inserted the correct value in the "Find/Search" field but I can't guess what was the one which you inserted ? .
    I selected the character to replace, Copy it then pasted it in the Find/Search field.

    I want to use the original internal HDD both to run Windows in Boot Camp mode, and to have a partition for my bulk data that doesn't need to be on the SSD.
    I reformatted the HDD as a single HFS+ partition, GUID partition table.
    I used BCA to create a Windows USB boot device from the Windows 8.1 media after following the hacking in this link.
    When the iMac restarted after creating the 250Gb Windows partition on the internal HDD, I got the "no boot device" screen.
    I restarted holding Option/Alt and booted from EFI Boot on the USB stick. Windows installer started, at least. Serial number accepted, on to picking a location.
    The installation balked when I tried to select the BOOTCAMP partition, with the warning that the disk was formatted as MBR - eh? Why?
    So, the current state of the internal HDD must be wrong somehow, but I don't see how to fix it (confidently) and would like someone to point me in the right direction (please!)

    Thanks to Loner T and some more reading, I think I'm now sorted out.
    I found that marking the first partition on the USB stick as Active made no difference - my only option was to boot from the "EFI boot" option at startup (when holding down the alt/option key).
    So to get the Windows installer to behave, I used gdisk to write a new protective MBR before rebooting to the USB stick, as shown below.
    With the protective MBR in place (rather than hybrid), the Windows installer was happy to reformat the chosen partition and the installation began.
    I'll try to report back once all is installed and working, but once again I owe my sanity to the generosity and patience of strangers!

  • How to format paragraphs in a table cell programmatically

    I am adding three paragraphs to a cell:
    this.currentTable.rows[0].cells[0].contents =
      record[this.GUIDE_LOCNAME_ENG] + "\r" +
      record[this.GUIDE_LOCNAME_FR] + "\r" +
      record[this.GUIDE_LOCDESC] +"\r" +
      record[this.LATITUDE] + "N " + record[this.LONGITUDE] +"W";
    I am still relatively new to the InDesign model and my head hurts
    I want to access the paragraphs and change the paragraph style of each paragraph to three different paragraph styles. I have searched and I am stymied.
    Thanks in advance
    Bill

    I count 4 paragraphs there! Anyway, once you've added the contents to
    the cell, it should be a simple matter of:
    para1 = this.currentTable.rows[0].cells[0].paragraphs[0];
    para2 = this.currentTable.rows[0].cells[0].paragraphs[1];
    etc.
    then, to apply a paragraph style:
    myParaStyles = app.activeDocument.paragraphStyles;
    para1.appliedParagraphStyle = myParaStyles.itemByName("aStyleName");
    etc.
    (If you para styles are in groups, you need to target the group first
    before the paragraph style).

  • Mac address table corruption?

    We are running Cisco 4500 chassis at the access layer, and have been for a few years without issue. Recently we started to experience issues where a mac address will just randomly "jump" to another port. User will call us and say their computer is not working. Switch is running cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.151-2.SG2.bin , but also happened on cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.151-2.SG4.bin and cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.150-2.SG4.bin. Other switches have also had this issue occur.

    Looks to be me like a bug.
    could you please provide me some more details on this:
    1- How often this issue is occurring?
    2- Is this occurring to specific ports or specific laptops which are connecting to this ports or is it irrespective of devices?
    3- Is there any possibilities that you try rebooting one of the switch if the issue is very often? (I know this is not a feasible solution , I know it is some issue iwth the firmware but in case to avoid high impact you can reboot the switch and update me?
    4- Provide me with the logs from the switch?
    5- I will do the bug scrub and let you know.

  • Partition table corrupted after installing OSX10.8.3

    I installed OSX 10.8.3 from the Mac App Store on Friday and after installing, my macbook rebooted and a grey bar appeared at the bottom of the screen like it was updating the EFI...
    After waiting the bar to be full (apprx 45 minutes), it simply stopped...
    I tried restarting and the bar reappeared... So I decided to reboot in Verbose and saw my disk being repaired once, twice, 3 times and then nothing more...
    I then booted on my one week old clone on an external disk (thank god I had one) and checked the internal disk with the following :
    Disk util (GUI)
    Disk util (Terminal)
    Testdisk and pdisk
    Data Rescue 3
    Everything seems ok with reading the information on the disk, but impossible to mount/unmount the OS X partition
    But the partition table is not right...
    I need to be able to use my computer so I might erase and reinstall everything today,
    But if someone has an explanation to this mess I want to know it...
    Macbook Pro early 2011
    2.7GHz Intel i7
    RAM 8Go

    I tried burning the firmware updater to disc, but I when I try to boot from it, it says "No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key.” This is with a an external firewire dvd burner. But I also tried the same disc with another MBP that still has its original internal superdrive, and I got the same error there. That MBP can boot from the Crucial SSD firmware disc though, so I don't know what the deal is.
    I'd gotten rid of my bootcamp partition a good while ago since VMWare had been taking care of any Windows needs I had just fine, but I still had a Winclone backup of my old bootcamp partition. So I restored it to a new partition, booted into Windows 7, and installed the Intel SSD Toolkit. But every time I tried to run it, it just crashed on me. I watched it in the task manager, and it would appear in the process list for a while and then just disappear.
    I've already ordered a bigger Crucial M4 to replace the X-25M (it was getting a bit full anyway), so I hope things go better with it. Thanks for trying to help though, everybody.

  • Color Tables Corrupt & Unreadable?

    I got this message that started just yesterday. This is on the heels of my F:/ projects drive issue (referenced here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5013317#5013317).
    Before doing what Windows 7 tells me, I thought I should check with you all to see how to handle this since I never encountered this before and do not know if it could be related to the projects drive issue.
    Another note: I had my pagefile.sys on the F:/ drive. After the F:/ issue arose, Windows created another one automatically on C:/. I went into Advanced Setting and changed the Virtual Memory back to F:/, following one of Harm's recommended methods. No issues from it, but that's what I did.
    With sincere thanks,
    Paul

    I would suggest running the CHKDSK utility and allow it to run at boot time. It may demand it.

  • [CS3 JS] Finding paragraph containing table

    I have a table object and want to find the paragraph that contains the table. Then I want to return the contents of the paragraph previous to the table anchor. I am using this, but when I attempt to display the contents of the paragraph, I get "Object is invalid". Thanks for any help you can provide.
    // Get the paragraph inside the table.
    var oPgf = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0];
    // Make sure the paragraph is in a cell.
    if (oPgf.parent.constructor.name === "Cell") {
      // Get the parent cell and table objects.
      var oCell = oPgf.parent;
      var oTbl = oCell.parent;
      // Get the paragraph containing the table.
      var oPgf2 = oTbl.storyOffset.paragraphs[0];
      // Get the story object of the paragraph.
      var oStory = oPgf.parentStory;
      // Get the paragraph's index.
      var iPos = oPgf2.index;
      // Display the contents of the paragraph before the table anchor.
      alert (oStory.paragraphs[iPos-1].contents);

    I found a previous post that is helping me with this.
    // Paragraph inside of table.
    var oPgf = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0];
    // Make sure the paragraph is inside a table
    if (oPgf.parent.constructor.name === "Cell") {
      var oCell = oPgf.parent;
      var oTbl = oCell.parent;
      // Get the paragraph containing the table anchor.
      var oPgf2 = oTbl.storyOffset.paragraphs[0];
      // Loop from the table anchor to the top of the story.
      while (oPgf2) {
        $.writeln(oPgf2.constructor.name);
        oPgf2 = oPgf2.parentStory.paragraphs.previousItem(oPgf2);
    This basically works, except this line gives an "Object is invalid" error when it gets to the beginning of the story:
    oPgf2 = oPgf2.parentStory.paragraphs.previousItem(oPgf2);
    I can use a try statement, but I am wondering why the loop doesn't exit gracefully without an error. Thanks.
