  • Merging pages in C# with Hyperlinks (destinations empty)

    Hi all,
    I tried to merge PDF documents with CAcroPDDoc InsertPages. It works well. Now I have hyperlinks in my documents. After merging the documents the list of destinations is empty and the links are dead.
    Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
    With four your help

    It's a bug/limitation of the COM APIs for page insertion.
    Use the JSObject bridge to get to the JavaScript version and be sure to pass the right values for the insertFlags.

  • Unchecking "Shared Hyperlink Destination" causes InDesign CS5.5 to crash

    This occurs on multiple Macs (running either Leopard or Snow Leopard) in our office. The links are connected to conditional text in InCopy. Here's the scenario:
    1) Open the InDesign document and select the linked text.
    2) Get a dialog box: "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" Click "Yes."
    3) Copy the text of the link, right-click and select "New Hyperlink."
    4) In the "New Hyperlink" window, paste in the text of the URL (leaving in the http://).
    5) Uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination." InDesign immediately crashes.
    I've been told by our designers that you have to uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination" to prevent changes to all of the other related links in the document. I don't work with InDesign on a regular basis and have very limited knowledge of InCopy. I tested the current version of InDesign (7.5.3) on my Mac and the same crash occurred.

    Thanks to you both. Excuse my ignorance - I presumed that 7.5.3 was a paid-for-upgrade to Creative Suite 6 (or higher?!)... I thought I had the Updater set to prompt me for updates, but I obviously didn't.
    Anyhow - I've since run the updater, but the crash happens the same way. Here's the new crash report.
    http://pastebin.com/JNvtTRbn
    Hopefully there's something of use in this - I really don't want to have to manually do this: I have nearly 200 film titles that need to be listed in alphabetical order with their respective page number, and the TOC feature would be the perfect solution if it actually worked...
    As a matter of interest, how stable is Creative Suite 6 / Creative Cloud? Worth the leap?

  • CS4 CS5 converted project = audio error

    Anyone come across this:
    I have a project that was converted from After Effects CS4 to CS5, that shows the following strange behaviour in CS5:
    The comps contain layers that consist of AIFF audio files. When doing an audio preview (.) or a RAM preview, the audio does not play the part of the AIFF file that, according to the time-code, it should play. It starts where it should, but then suddenly it skips a few seconds to another part of the AIFF. All that while the red indicator bar suggests it is still playing lineair as it should (the red line does not "skip" to another point.
    This leaves me with an unworkable situation, as it is quite unpredictable which part of the audio will play right...
    As far as i can tell this behaviour only happens with a converted project (CS4 > CS5) in After Effects.
    But when I started a new project in Premiere Pro I got the same skipping audio with a totally new project!
    Converted back to CS4 for now.

    The After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update is available:

  • CS3 to CS4/CS5-- Book TOC crashes but not in chapters

    Hi, i'm having a conversion problem again,
    i'm working within a book (like always) and i have a main TOC, that regroups styles from all the documents, in CS3 i had no problem with it, but in CS4/CS5 it makes ID crash and i have no idea why. the thing that is even more strange is that every document inside the book has its own TOC (with more styles) included, and they do not crash my InDesign. It seems to be only the one that "reads" the styles across the book that do so.
    Anybody has an idea why?
    i get this error message :
    Thanks in advance!
    Message was edited by: korinsama

    edit  that needed a bump :
    since my TOC in for the book differs from the TOC in each chapter, i tried importing the one from the chapters (the one that technically doesn't crash)
    ... but once in the book TOC when i check 'include book documents" ... well... it crashed... so i'm guessing it's not the TOC styles that have a problem but the fact that i'm trying to apply it to the whole book ..... which... is really problematic...
    retested the original TOC, just unchecked the "include book documents" and it didn't crash..... i wish there was a detailed crash log so i could understand what's going on... it's kind of ridiculous that i can generate a single document TOC but not the exact same one applied to a book....
    soooo the good news is, i can generate each chapter individually and copy/paste into the main TOC, which is good since in earlier version of INDD, copy/pasting TOC made it crash.. and it doesn't anymore

    nope... this is a known issue for users. Hopefully will be resolved soon (not holding my breath though). Some people have suggested resetting pram, uninstalling flash, quitting Safari, updating java, installing third party mouse driver software etc... but for me nothing has worked yet.
    I have 2 monitors and this happens quite a lot, but ONLY on my iMac monitor. If i move the mouse cursor to my second screen it's visible there, move it back to my iMac screen and it disappears.
    My workaround is to hover over the dock to claim my cursor back, but that is really just an annoying thing to do every 5 mins.
    I am convinced this is a OSX issue but the two companies are just pointing fingers which will not result in any fix any time soon.
    Thinking about selling my two Apple machines because of this bug.

  • From paragraph Style to "New Hyperlink Destination"

    Dear InDesign Experts
    Please help me to find a way or Script to add all headings of specific paragraph style to "New Hyperlink Destination....(Text Anchor)"
    and ... is there any automation for such a task?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Saud,
    Try the below script.
    var activeDoc = app.activeDocument;
        app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
        app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "XXXX";//Give your paragraph Style name here
    var foundRefList = activeDoc.findGrep();
        app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
        app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    var myCount =0;
    var foundListLength = foundRefList.length;
    for (var j = 0; j<foundListLength; j++){
        var myParas = foundRefList[j].paragraphs;
        var myParaLength = myParas.length;
        for (var i = 0; i<myParaLength; i++){
            var myText  = myParas[i].texts[0];
            app.select(myText);
            var myId = j+"_"+(i+1);
            var myHyperlinkCitDestination = activeDoc.hyperlinkTextDestinations.add(myText, {name: myId});
            myCount++;
        app.select(NothingEnum.nothing);
        alert("Process Completed\n"+myCount+" destinations added");
    p.s: I've not tested it, please check this at your end and let me know.

  • CS4 & CS5 Indy with same serial number

    Can CS4 & CS5 Indy with same serial number both be open on the same machine?
    Thanks!

    I'm wondering how you have two versions with the same serial number? Volume license maybe?
    In the world of single licenses an upgrade from CS4 to CS5 would get a new new number, at least in my experience. As far as installing multiple versions (but not differnt localizations, like US and ME, of the same version) no problem, and I often have multiple versions open at the same time for testing and answereing questions here on the forum.

  • Can I merge Photoshop CS6 with extended into Photoshop CS4 or CS5 will work together ?

    Can I merge Photoshop CS6 with extended into Photoshop CS4 or CS5 will work together ?

    Versions of Photoshop have different installation trees and user preferences.  You do not merge Photoshop versions. Each version is independent.  When you install newer versions of Photoshop the are options to migrate your presets and Preferences. You can start and use any version installed on your machine.  For the most part newer version of Photoshop are backwards compatible with older versions of Photoshop. However some changes  Adobe make to Photoshop change user interfaces and and the way Photoshop performs some functions these changes break some user actions, scripts and user work-flows.  In fact all the version you listed CS4, CS5 and CS6 have comparability issues.  In that respect Photoshop CC is not any better it has compatibility issues.
    Newer versions of Photoshop have new functions and updated old function.  Older versions can not handle everything save by newer versions of Photoshop. If you save PSD and PSB files with the maximum compatibility option checked. Older version should be able to open you layer document with layers that look like what was saved though some layer may be altered and may even be a different layer kind then was saved. If you need to support older versions of Photoshop always use the maximum compatibility option.

  • Possible bug with creating hyperlink destination while in story editor

    I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing this and if it's proper behavior or a bug:
    I'm making manual cross references for endnotes in an ebook. To do this I'm creating hyperlink destinations for each endnote and endnote reference. I'm doing this in story editor because I can see the destination targets, however, I'm having a weird issue where when I hit enter when in the hyperlink destination dialog box, it closes and puts a hard return in my text. If I'm doing this in layout mode, I don't get the hard return--it's only in story editor. Creating a hyperlink and hitting enter on that dialogue box does not have the same behavior. It's just the "New Hyperlink Destination" dialog box that does it.
    Can someone else replicate this behavior: Open story editor for any length story. Select some text (doesn't matter where it is), and go to the hyperlink panel menu and select "New Hyperlink Destination" and then hit the keyboard "enter" [rather than clicking on OK] to close the dialogue box.
    When I do this on my Windows 8 laptop running the latest InDesign CC 2014, I'm getting a hard return that deletes whatever text was selected in the story editor. Is this supposed to happen?

  • Set hyperlink destination...

    Hi everyone,
    At present i am working with InDesign CS4. I am finding "CT" paragraph style applied contents and i want to fix this contents as new hyperlink destination. These are the marginal terms. Then i have to find the cross reference of this marginal terms in the main column which is "HT" character style applied content and make this to new hyperlink. if the contents of the CT match with marginal terms then i have to link the hyperlinks and destination.
    Find my script below.
    app.findTextPreferences=app.changeTextPreferences=null;
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle="MT";
    myFind=app.findText(true);
    for(i=0;i<myFind.length;i++){
    alert (myFind[i].contents);
    myLink=app.activeDocument.hyperlinkTextDestinations.add(myFind[i].insertionPoints[0]);
    alert ("Done");
    Can anyone help me for this. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Jai Singh Tanwar,
    You can make the hyperlinks generated in your HTML report output dynamic by including parameters of the form &<param_name> in the Hyperlink/Hyperlink Destination properties of a field.
    Here, param_name can refer to a user/system parameter or data source column in the report. For example, the hyperlink value 'http://www.yahoo.com/&sal' would generate different hyperlinks for each instance of the SAL field.
    Thanks,
    The Oracle Reports Team.

  • Cross-references to hyperlink destinations (text anchors) results in file slowdown

    I'm using text anchors for the first time in a 12-file book (~280 pages) for the table/figure list in the front matter. There are maybe 100 or so total cross-references in the front matter in tables (where one column is the text of the figure title and one column the page number).
    About halfway through the process of adding the cross references, things got reallllly slow, and only in that one document. So slow that reformatting became almost impossible, because of the delays.
    So I went through many of the usual troubleshooting steps, just in case. Trashed preferences, trashed the style, etc. I exported the file to IDML and created a new file from that. It helped, but I can tell that it's still not quite so snappy.
    My question, then, is if this is to be expected with what may be a large number of hyperlinks/text anchors? All the other files in the book act fine, so it's not an InDesign-wide slowdown. Are there any best practices when it comes to using hyperlink destinations?
    As an amusing aside, before I tried the troubleshooting steps I had a clever idea--to insert the cross references into a new, blank document and then paste them into the frontmatter file. Consist and ugly crashes to desktop resulted.

    Peter,
    Thanks for your reply. Yes, the TOC could do this and would be an easier approach. But I hadn't anticipated using it and so didn't have my ducks in a row as far as having the styles consistent for chapter titles, figures and tables. Next time I will do so. I can guess that as a TOC doesn't generate live links, it shouldn't have a performance impact like dozens of cross-references do.
    Yes, the TOC is inert except when it's being generated.
    Regardless of how "creatively chaotic" or "chaotically creative" your chapter, table, and figure title paragraph styles are, as long as all chapter titles are tagged with style names that are not used for figures or tables, and similarly figures and tables are not tagged with styles used for the "other," you can still generate a usable TOC. The idea is to capture all the paragraph styles for each category, and display each category's captured paragraphs as uniform TOC entries - i. e., all chapter title entries are the same, all table title entries are the same, and all table title entries are the same. If you don't want the categories intermixed, create a separate TOC for each category, place each TOC separately, unthreaded to other document frames.
    If you'd like to try a few things to see if it's possible to quickly remake the TOC and regain a responsive working document, before doing anything else, save the whole project to a secure place, and work on the copy. Then:
    * Move the Text tool insertion point to each cross-reference's destination by selecting the reference in the cross-reference panel and clicking  the right-pointing arrow on the panel status bar; then verify that the paragraph is tagged with an appropriate style that doesn't belong to the other category of TOC items.
    * After all the TOC-to-be items are identified and verified that they're tagged correctly, delete the text frame(s) that contain the TOC that's created with cross-references. All the references will break, of course. You've got the secure original project somewhere, right?
    * Set up the TOC roughly; just pick the paragraph styles for each category - chapter, figure, table, and generate a TOC for the book. Drag to place the TOC on a clean new page, and DO NOT THREAD THE TOC TO NON-TOC TEXT FRAMES.
    * If the extracted paragraphs are in their correct categories, you can create new TOC styles for the TOC entries, or, if they exist, assign them in the TOC setup dialog box, and regenerate.
    If this result gives you a sense of what needs fixing, and you have the time, refine the TOC styles so you can get the exact appearance you want. By avoiding changing the source paragraphs in the main document, you'll avoid any risk of reflowing anything. Finally, after the project's completely done and handed off, you can spend time refining the rogue source paragraph styles, IN A COPY, for use going forward.

  • Hyperlink Destination Errors

    I created an Inde3sign Document and added hyperlink destinations and manually linked a TOC. When I add new text to the document some of the desinations are changed without me even touching them. Any help on why this might be happening would be greatly app

    I added text after the anchor. Meaning the anchored text was already in the Document and it was not touched nor were any of the other anchors. The text anchors are associated with a title not the body of the document.. The document goes Heading, text (a few paragraphs with different headings styles in there as well), another heading that has a text anchor and so forth. The headings were already linked and new text was added.

  • Help with numbering lists in Indesign CS5.5 for epub file

    I am working with a book in Indesign CS5.5 to export it as an epub file. I have been working on formatting the text and I have run into a small problem. Throughout the book there are multiple lists within the texts that need to be numbered. Each list, however, must start over at number 1 and not be continued on from the previous list. The lists are all unrelated and I need them to be completely separate. I used "Type", "Bullets and Numbering", then "Apply Numbering" to begin with. This had each list in the correct order. However, I also created a paragraph style with the correct font, size, indentation, and spacing that must be applied to all the lists before exporting. When I do this, everything keeps its correct formatting except that some of the lists continue their numbering from the previous list. For example, on page 1 I might have a list of four things all formatted correctly and number 1 through 4. On page 3, I have another list, of completely unrelated items. I therefore would like this list to be started over at number 1, but when I apply the paragraph style to it, it starts at 5, picking up where the last list left off. I need to keep these as the assigned paragraph style but it messes up the numbering. If anyone could help me figure out how to keep this from happening I would greatly appreciate it!

    If you don't mind cracking open the ePub and editing template.css, then adding rules like:
    h2 {
              page-break-before: always;
    should force each paragraph whose style is mapped to an h2 tag on to a new page. Whether or not it works will depend on how good the ePub reader is at implementing CSS. It seems to work for Digital Editions and also Kindle, if you convert ePub to Kindle format.
    This doesn't help at all if you are trying to force sections into separate XHTML files, though.
