Paralells on my intel - GAMES - AGE OF CONAN

Hey guys. I purchased AOC recently and I installed it on paralells.
After installation completed, I tried to load the game but it said ''directx driver not installed'' or something along those lines.
Any success stories with playing AOC on paralells? Also how you got past that ''directx driver not installed'' or whatever it said.
Thanks, all tips appreciated.

I'm actually installing AoC at the moment and am just a step behind you, but from what I've heard parallels doesn't/can't handle gaming well regardless and you're better off just booting up via bootcamp.
Doesn't sound like you're having a parallels specific problem though. First I would Download and install DirectX 9 or perhaps Directx 10 (although AoC doesn't require 10... yet).
I'll keep you posted on my progress and let you know what snags I run into as I install.

  • Will Age of Conan(mmorpg game) run on my MBP or iMac?

I want to play the new mmorpg game Age of Conan. But I don't have any windows pc's anymore. But I do have two macs in the house and I might be willing to put windows via bootcamp on one of them if it works. Also I don't want to do it if it's going to run really choppy and barely makes the requirements. So here's the requirements for the game:
    Minimum
    Disk Drive : Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
Hard Drive Space : 30 GB
    Operating System : Windows XP/Vista
Processor : Pentium 4/Athlon XP or better: 3 GHz

So would it be able to run smoothly? Thanks.

    Drumwiz,
Hmmm, you must have XP with SP2. You cannot install any earlier version and upgrade it. Of course, Vista will install with no problems, regardless of which point release.
Now, it sounds to me like your Macbook Pro is a Core Duo model, not a Core 2 Duo. Please confirm this by choosing "About this Mac..." from the Apple menu, but the 2.16 models with the X1600 were all Core Duo, if I am not mistaken.
At any rate, you can install only the 32-bit version of either XP or Vista on any Core Duo machine (your Macbook Pro). However, you can install either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of XP and/or Vista on the iMac. There are pros and cons to both.

This is a Vista issue. You may need to install the appropriate drivers from your Vista installer disk. Other than that I fell that if you are a "Gamer" I would be looking at other laptop models made specifically with "Gamers" in mind.

  • Want to play pre-intel game, got a PowerPC iMac and want to install OS 9, anything I need to know before hitting ebay?

Found the pre-intel machine, but unfortunately (in this case) it is running OS 10.4.11. Want to make sure before I buy from ebay that I am getting the OS 9 I can use on this computer. Saw a reboot set for OS 9, will that work? Or do I need to already have 9 installed, which I don't. Does it matter which OS 9 version I get, or if advertised as for another model of computer will it translate to mine? Thanks ahead of time!

hmmm, ok, need some clarification, please bear with me, not very techie, but love learning.
So I have a 2003 iMac PowerPC G4 (PowerMac6,1 768 MB 1 GHz) currently running OS 10.4.11. NO DISKS whatsoever- someone gave me the computer, it was about to go in the "recycling". (which is such a shame- WHAT A COOL LOOKING COMPUTER!!!) I also have this year's model of MacBookPro and have had many macs, so I am not trying to be an apple rip off- just trying to play a game they have made obsolete. Wish I had kept a few of my older ones...
When I try to play this really cool game it says it that the classic environment is no longer supported. So question time: can I purchase a copy of the tiger os and reload it? I understand that the disks are extremely model specific and apple info says my model originally shipped with 10.2.3 installed, but what about the black retail copies verses the grey lables? And would this theoretical re-install of tiger then automatically include the classic mode, or is that a seperate disk? And if one purchaces this retail install disk, are codes necessary?  I have the overall user password from the original owner, but alas she tossed the disks...
the cool game is Alice: an Interactive Museum and is worth all this trouble...  it will play on os 9. The sheepshaver, looks way too complicated for my level of computer knowledge, but thanks for the suggestions.
"The transcendant world of Alice was created through the cooperation of artists in three fields - the painter Kuniyoshi Kaneko, the musician Kazuhiko Kato and the computer-graphics artist Haruhiko Shono. The theme of this unusual collaborative effort derives from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Kaneko provided numerous of those of his pictures that have been influenced by Alice's world and Kato contributed the music. With these as his material, Shono has created an elaborate interactive environment. The stage upon which this drama unfolds is a house of twelve rooms that include a gallery, an atelier, a wine cellar and a photo studio, each connected to others by corridors, doors, and even secret passageways. The persistent player will find as well a single exit that opens to the outside world. There is also hidden throughout the twelve rooms a deck of playing cards. On each card is a message that will enable you to unlock the mysteries of Alice's world. A wonderland of striking works of art, interactivity and compelling adventure game is waiting to be explored by YOU."
Your iMac G4 is one of the following three:
Accordingly, the earliest operating system that will boot your computer is either OS X 10.2.3 or 10.2.7 depending on which specific Mac.  Since you say your label says it shipped with OS X 10.2.3, it must be the first one listed.  Hence you cannot boot OS 9 on this computer, but you can install OS 9 into the Classic Environment on it.
Reading these Apple Support documents will help clarify what you need to purchase:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21153?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1585?viewlocale=en_US
So while it would be helpful to have a set of OS X Jaguar install Disks in your library, it does not look like it is essential; you just need to have OS 9 to install into it.
I think I made this offer once before...
Let me know if the set you purchase works for you.  Contact me by email; screenname at AmericaOnLine
Is that the "Luxo" iMac G4?  I still have the one my daughter purchased years ago.  The original disk set must be around here somewhere...
If not, I have quite an extensive OS Library from those days.  I'll swap you!

  • Kid games (ages 3-5) options for mac

A friend has a good Blues Clues game that his 3 year old can play on his PC (matching colors and shapes and stuff). I've been trying to find something similar for my 3 year old daughter who only thinks of the mac as something to use to talk to her grandmother (iChat) with and does not get the concept of pushing buttons or using a mouse.
I've been checking stores and can't seem to find anything. Also searching on line but seem to only get PC options.
Question - Is there anybody with kids that has a suggestion? Ideally I would prefer to either order online or download online.
    Thanks,
    Tony

You may want to check my games jumpstation website:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macgamepages.html
Somewhere in there might be a game that is appropriate.
Also, a good software that isn't quite a game, but your daughter may like is Golly Gee blocks:

I don't have kids, but know I would have loved this as a kid!

  • MBP Intel Games ?

    Hi,
I'm the happy new owner of a MBP 13 Core 2 Duo. I'm still pretty much Mac ignorant, but learning, and was wondering about downloading a free game or two.
I'm not really a gamer but I saw a game called SuperTux that looked interesting. I was just wondering about the risks of installing anything from sites I'm not sure of.
Could someone share their knowledge on the subject or maybe recommend some sites for safe downloads ?
    Thanks

    Hi MacManj,
I take it you're referring to this game - http://supertux.lethargik.org/download.html
It looks pretty harmless. As with anything, outside of Apple, there's always a level of risk in downloading an application. Companies like HP, Adobe, Microsoft and other major software development groups are usually pretty safe and reliable as well. The important thing, is that you download these software programs (or related updates) directly from their sites or built-in update applications.
It's these 3rd party download hosting service websites that I don't trust.
The good news, you're pretty safe when it comes to operating within the OS X environment. But that doesn't mean that you can just start clicking and downloading on anything and everything. There's still threats out there and various exploits, even for OS X users.

  • Problem with my P6N Diamond...?HELP

This is the first time i have ever bought a MSI board. My specs are: 2gb corsair mem. Intel Quad Core. XfX Gefore 8800gt (x2). 22 inc monitor and the P6n Mb.Also have 5 120 mm fans and a Zalman 850 watt PS WIndows XP SP3
My first issue is when i play games i lag at certain times..usually when there is some sorta loud noise. My speakers kinda crackly and i lag. So we could say there is some sorta sound issue? But unf. the sound card came integrated in the motherboard. X-fi Extreme Audio. When i went to update the drivers from creative labs it keeps telling me i dont have any supported software. When i go to MSI their last audio drivers are old as hell...
My second issue is basic game lag. When playing certain games (Age of Conan) my fps go from 60-80 to 7-20 and i lag...but i can hear a slight whining noise from my comp when this happens. Some told me it sounds like an overheating problem. I checked that and my gpu and cpu run aroun 50C. This issue started happening after i installed 2 more 120 mm fans. I unplugged both fans, still happening, i made sure everything was still plugged in (they were), made sure my Video cards were in all the way. I dont think i should be having this problem..but who knows...
I dont know what to do about the whining noise or what it means...
PS. when i use the scroller on my house here sometimes i can hear a slight whine as well in my comp. and this happens when im not doing anything...no programs running or anything..
    Help!

"So we could say there is some sorta sound issue?"
    Disable the X-Fi and re-test.
Then see if the issue which you have are gone or not.

  • New Nvidia in Bootcamp XP driver problems

    Hi All,
I recently installed the new drivers from Nvidia on my XP Bootcamp partition. All seemed well, and I noticed an improvement in performance for my game, Age of Conan, after installing new drivers and rebooting the system.
However, I get home today switch to Bootcamp, XP loads but as soon as it loads some Nvidia software ( I am assuming its a service here since I couldnt find anything in the startup folders) the whole thing freezes and I get a weird gfx error where the screen displays aload of crap.. which requires a reboot.
I try to boot up in safe mode to address the problem, but the keyboard and mouse are not active to select the various options. Although I am able to get into the options by pressing F8 as normal.. So i cannot select safe mode.
So I loaded up parallels, set the services I suspect are the problem to off, but it seems it still loads up the software thats causing the probs. I assume here that its using a different system startup from parallels.
I tried to install the old bootcamp drivers from within parallels but its using a different display system and so the driver setup wont work.
What is weird is I have used these drivers before, with no problems, to play eve-online on a bootcamp partition which I had to delete and recreate for disk resizing issues.
    HELP!
    Thanks..
EDIT: I can boot the bootcamp partition using parallels so its clear its a display driver issue.
    Message was edited by: dynamostia

Okay so I have managed to boot from XP natively by using run in windows from parallels, and using msconfig to perform a limited startup.
    No probs.. it boots fine.
However, when I try to install the offical nvida bootcamp drivers I get the previous message that I dont have the supported hardware. Ugh!
    Any ideas?

  • Running Game on windows XP with Bootcamp for Mac. Problems.

Im not sure if it is even relevant that im running windows xp on mac via bootcamp, I have played many other games on it such as Age of Conan, Fallout, Bioshock and Left for Dead, i.e it can run graphically demanding games.
Every time I boot it up, it plays fine for about half an hour, then my computer screen goes black and the computer restarts. I however it gets stuck in the restarting process and i need to turn it off then on again.
Sony online entetainment were little help. Has anyone any ideas?

    Hi Bebjiahome;
Still I don't use anything from Microsoft, I am not the best one to ask for that one. A better place to ask would be the Boot Camp Forum where the Windows users tend to hang out.

  • Age of Empries III w/ expansions on Macbook

    Hi,
I was curious if the game Ages of Empire III with its expansion packs would run well on the macbook, not the macbook pro IN boot camp
Here's the requirements for the game on windows
    * Microsoft® Windows® XP
    * PC with 1.4 GHz equivalent or higher processor
    * 256 MB of system RAM
    * 2 GB available hard disk space
    * 32x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
    * 64 MB video card with support for hardware transformation and lighting required
    * Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
    * Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
    * 56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play
And here's the specs on the macbook
    * 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    * 4MB shared L2 cache running at full processor speed
    * 800MHz frontside bus
    * 1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300); two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB
I'm not certain if the macbook has 64 MB video card support or not, or if it will be enough for all of the graphics to work well. I also have 4gb of RAM installed,
and should i be worried about the graphic cards? I'm illiterate when it comes to the correct drivers or not.
    Thanks for any feed back

    There ya go!

  • Game heat

I have begun playing Age of conan on the new macbook, with bootcamp. Its works great but im concerned about the heat that is being created while ingame. It is really hot, but only during, as far as i now, that game.
you can feel the heat a bit on the keyboard, but mostly under the laptop.
Should i be worried or should i ignore the heat??

Beside's carl's awesome comment.. the heat is normal..
check other threads.. the macbook gets hot when playing games..
It's dissipating the heat ! and it's metal.. go figure? metal dissipates heat better than plastic.

With Firefox 4 and any game open (Age of Conan, Fallout:New Vegas, Rift, Witcher 2) my computer will inevitably crash after about 10 minutes.
