Parallel sequence in routing

Hi all,
I have defined a parallel sequence in routing linked to standard sequence. i.e. 0
Stand. seq. has one operation 0010 (work center L1)
Parallel sequence has 3 operations 10, 20 and 30. I am trying to make 10 (work center L4) and 20( WC L5) as parallel operations.
I have 2 quesries regarding this.
1. I am putting branch operation as 10 and return operation as 20 but I am getting error,
'The return operation is not defined'
2. I want this sequence to get selected in production order automatically in as operations but system ia selecting main seq i.e. with operation with WC = L1.
Let me know if I am missing something, concept wise or setting wise.
Regards,
Yogesh

Hi,
Your first question:
You cannot have return operation as 20, as you standard sequence has only operation 10. So your branch operation and return operation has to be 10.
Your Second Question:
In the production order go to Sequence overview (Shift+F8) to select the sequence and then go to Operation Overview (F5) to look into the details of the operation.

  • Scheduling of Parallel Sequence in Routing & Production Order

    Hello Friends,
I have gone through sap library & many other threads related to maintaining & scheduling of parallel sequence in Routing as well as Production Order.
    For the example, I have 3 operations : 0010,0020 & 0030.
I want to maintain 0020 & 0030 as Parallel Operations ( Parallel Sequence) i.e. for both operations I have maintained same lead times so that both should start & end at same time parallely.
First of all, I have maintained all operations in standard sequence 0 all 0010,0020 & 0030 operations and also maintained tick in Required splitting check box.
Same way , I have maintained operations 0020 & 0030 in Parallel sequence with branching operation as 0020 & Return operation as 0030. Ref. sequence i have maintained as 0 (Std. Sequence).
Now when I am checking in Graphic it is not showing both operation 0020 & 0030 as parallely scheduled and hence same is not reflected in Production ORder as well.
Kindly share your valuable views reg. what may be other settings for parallel sequence which I may be missing.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tejas

    Hi Abhijt,
Thanks for your reply. I went through your thread & I followed same steps as mentioned by you in your suggested threads.
I have removed Parallel sequence fully & maintained Required Overlapping for all my 3 operations : 0010,0020 & 0030
I have maintained workcenters as below :
    0010 A  Set up 2.0 Hrs   Machine 5.0 Hrs   Labour 1.0 Hr
    0020 B  Set up 2.0 Hrs   Machine 5.0 Hrs   Labour 1.0 Hr
    0030 A  Set up 2.0 Hrs   Machine 5.0 Hrs   Labour 1.0 Hr
I checked scheduling in routing itself same way you suggested with start date today's date & forward scheduling it gives following results :
    0010 start time 07:00:00
    0020 start time 07:13:42
    0030 start time 09:14:39
My concern is with mainly start time of operations 0010 & 0020 since for both of these are processed on different workcenters A & B respectively then why not starting exactly on same time on 07:00:00 AM only instead another operation is starting on 07:13:42AM. I am unable to find how this difference of 13mins 42 seconds is coming.
Kindly provide your feedback. Also let me know if you need any more details.

  • Parallel sequence - scheduling operation

    Hi,
when I was creating parallel sequence in routing I was faced with problem in scheduling operation.
After making a routing with parallel sequence, which are executing on the others work centers, system doesn't take into consideration the fact that order is divided on for example two work centers ( parallel sequence ! ).
How to divide the time of operations for equal parts ( or different proportion ) in two work centers.
Please help me solvede this problem.
    Artur

    Artur,
The logic of parallel sequence is bit different from what you expect.
The parallel sequence is the sequence of operations which runs parellel to main sequnce.
But you can use it to serve your purpose.
After creating the parallel sequence in the routing, select the standard sequence, click on operation.
In operations overview, select the desired operations & follow path, 'Details'-- 'operations' or press F6.
In the operation details screen, under 'Unit of measure conversion', maintain value against 'Header' as 1 & against 'Operation' as 0.5 (if you want to divide the value equally).
Navigate with the arrows in the upper left & maintain these settings for the desired operation.
    Now click on 'Sequnces'.
Select the parallel sequnce & repeat the above given procedure for the desired operations in the parallel sequences aslo.
Now whenever the order will be created, the order quantity will be divided equally on the sequences & accordingly scheduling will yake place.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Parallel Sequence Routing using RCPTRA01

    Hi all,
I've a requirement where i need to Upload Parallel Sequence Routing .  I'm using RCPTRA01 for  created Standard Sequence Routing . Can anyone help me how to Upload Parallel Sequence Routing  using RCPTRA01.

    Two ways.
    1.  Use the parallel sequences you have created and apply 1/2 the time required to process a part to each operation.
    2.  Use a single sequence and create the first operation with 1/2 the time and a second operation immediately following with overlapping and zero offset time.

  • Extracting return operation from a parallel sequence in a routing.

    Hi all
I need to extract data on some existing parallel sequences in routings from R3. One of the fields i need is the return operation for each parallel sequence.
I was hoping the data would be in PLFL which contains most of the sequence information I need. But alas it doesn't have the return operation.
Checking with F1 and the tech button shows me that the field i want is PLFLD-VORNR2. But PLFLD is a structure that I can't get to.
Does anyone know how to extract this info from the system?
    Regards
    Simon Pedersen

    Hi Simon,
The field that you're looking for is PLFL-BKNT2 (for the return operation). Pay attention that in this field there's a number that is representing the operation node number, not the number that you see in the routing screen.

  • Difference between parallel sequence and parallel operation in a routing.

    Hi Experts,
Can any one explain me with example the difference between parallel sequence and parallel operation in a routing? wHEN CAN WE USE PARALLEL OPEARTION AND PARALLEL SEQUNCE WITH COMPONENT ALLOCATION.
    Regards
    Deepak sharma

I think u need to modify ur quest... i think u r asking about Parallel sequence and alternate seq. Below are the details from SAP site.
A parallel sequence enables you to process several operations at the same time.
You use an alternative sequence for example, if
--The production flow is different for certain lot-size ranges
For instance you can machine a work piece on conventional machine or on NC machines. A NC machine has a longer set-up time than a conventional machine. However the machining costs are considerably less. Therefore whether you use NC machines will depend on the lot size.
---The production flow changes under certain business conditions.
For instance, if you have a capacity problem, you have some production steps performed externally by a vendor.

  • Confirmation of parallel sequence operation.

    Hello friends,
I want to do confirmation of parallel sequence operation. I use 3 or5 work centers  at a time for doing one operation. So i have defined parallel sequences for standard sequence. When I do confirmation of quantity and activity time in CO11N for one parallel sequence, other sequence quantity and activity time should be decreased. But system takes actual  quantity and time.
How to make settings , so that  quantity and activity values should be decreased automatically for next parallel sequence.
    Waiting for Reply!

    Dear ,
You are not able get the paralle sequence operation in CO11N because production order will copy the Routing based on the Order Type dependent paramter-OPL8-Routing  set up.
Here , basically , you might have chkeced Alternative Sequence  and Sequence Exchange field (0)  , so while creation production order , routing with operation which are in alternative sequnce will be copied  and will be used in CO11N confirmation.
2.You need to maintain "Operation Sequence is not checked " for operation sequence for the Ordertype/Plant combination in confirmation parameters using transaction OPK4.-Confirmation parameters of Order

  • How to use parallel sequence for split the operation qty. urgent or other o

    PP guru
    My scenario is as follows.
    I ve one material suppose…xyz.
For that material I' ve created bom, routing.
In routing I' ve mention only one operation. 0010.
Now I' ve the production order of 1000 kg.
I want to use two work centers to run this production order. ( e.g.work center a and b)
In routing I used work center a.
In short I want split that operation.
So what I ve to do or use parallel sequence and how???
or else is there any other option to split the order to two or more machines/work center?
    Pls explain me in brief.
    Regards,
    Ram

    Hi,
If you want to carry the production with two different work centers , first you need to split the operation qty.
For this in the order type dependent parameters OPL8
in the controlling tab page enable the indicator Cost collector
and set the default rule as PP2.
Create a Product cost collector with KKF6N.
Now in the production order , select the operation and choose functions--->>> split.
Now enter the operation split quantity and execute.
Now in MD04 you can see two production order.
In the second production order change the work center in the operation overview as desired and save.

  • Alternative Sequence in Routing

    Dear All,
I have a routing with 2 operations, and an alternative sequence branching in/out for operation 0020.
Now I have created a Production order, finished operation number 0010, finished half of operation 0020 and confirmed half the quantity, now the machine stops and I want to use the alternative machine.
    How can I do that?
It wouldn't allow me to use the alternative in confirmation, only allows me to choose it while creating the production order. How can I fix this issue?
In my origional routing I have 1 standard sequence, and once the machine brakes, I go to CO02 and create a new alternative?
However, in my original routing I dont want to state that I'll be manufacturing this production on 50% on machine 1 and 50% on machine 2.
The problem only occurs if the workcenter I'm working in develops a downtime. Where can I list the other work center I will use respecting the capacity, etc..?
Edited by: Rafik Wassef on May 21, 2009 12:01 PM

    Rafik,
There are three types of sequences you can maintain in the routing, i.e. standard, alternative & parallel.
As soon as the order is created in which this routing is the master data, any one sequence either standard or alternative sequence gets copied to the order.
Parallel sequences will be copied to the order.
That means the sequences which are alternative to each other never be a part of the order i.e. you can maintain those in the routing but while order creation only one out of them gets part of the order. Also you can not maintain alternative sequence in the order.
Only parallel sequence can be maintained in the order.
That's the reason I suggested you to maintain the same to tackle this issue..
If the main work center is under maintenance then you can replace the work center with the desired work center in the order itself. Why secific need to maintain the another sequence?
    Hope this helps you.

  • Sequence in routing

    Hi Friends,
Please help me to map following scenario of routing.
Suppose I have 5 CNC machines( Threading operation), 4 marking machines ( marking operation) and 3 painting machines (painting operation). Here, I can do work on CNC for maximum 5  components at a time as there are 5 machines. After that i send the job for next operation marking  and then Painting.
Here if i have to create 5 parallel sequence and assign each CNC machine to operation threading in sequence?
    Waiting for reply!
    Thanks 1

    Hi
Yes you can use the parallel sequence as you mentioned.
before you need to know the operation time funtion . As per your routing if the timing used in the operation is
Threading > marking > painting . you can use the more machine in 1st operation than the 2nd than the 3rd
if the opration time is more , then use more machine , inorder to reduce the leadtime of the full operations.
    or
if your timing used in the operains are like
Threading < marking < painting          , is this user case , then make it possible to minimise the use or machine for theading operation.
    2. another way is
you can split in the routing with no of split. if your workcenter has more than 1 capacity
so the operation can split into the no of machine(split ) as you required.

  • Parallel Sequencing of Production between different resources

    Hi all,
I want to consider the way to produce a product in parallel with other resources if available and cost efficient. ( Parallel sequencing of the production between resources)
I have setup groups for products. Also resources (machines)
every machine can do the same job (in different times)
According to setup optimization it may be useful to produce all in one resource but if I need to catch the requirement date, I have to parallelize the work.
Is there any way in SCM like (parallel sequencing in R/3) that takes us to a more feasible solution?

    Hi Mehmet,
In R/3, in the operation of routing, we can give "split" number .  It can split one operation into several splits during scheduling or capacity leveling so that total execution time will be reduced accordingly.
But when you transfer such operation with split number, the activity duration will be automatically calculated by using machine time divided by split number.
However in PPDS, there is split function. I'm not sure if it is what you want.

  • Parallel Sequence

    Hi,
I have defined a parallel sequence for a material in routing. Say material has 4 operations 0010, 0020, 0030, 0040. I am having 4 diff work centers for the four operations. Now the output of the 2nd operation 100 and the capacity of the 3 workcenter in 50 so I want utilize the parallel sequence. Now while creating a production order, system is by default selecting the std. sequence and when I go for confirming the the operation 0030, i should get two workcenters for confirming the qty. My requirement is to confirm the qty against the actual workcenter where it is performed

    Hi,
while confirming the order I am facing a problem. while confirming operation 20 and 25, the system is accepting the total qty. for individual confirmations. which is wrong, if I confirm 50nos. against operation 25, it should automatic give rest 50 nos. against operation 20. same control keys are kept for the operations PP01.
Pls let me know how to avoid this duplicacy while using parallel sequence.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sequences in routing -reg

    Hi,
what is the purpose of sequences in routing ?
normally all the operations list we can put and create routing ?
if we use sequences will the operations of all the sequences taken in to account while doing standard cost ?
are these sequences are of reporting purpose or any thing else
    can any one clarify ?
    regards,
    Madhu Kiran

    Hi,
we use REM , no order reference
our routing have sequence 0 to sequence 11 etc.. based on operations , these are not parallel sequences
    sequenec 0 is mainline operations
sequenec 1 is some sub assembly operations etc...
my doubt is when cost is run whether it will take these other sequences other than 0 also in to consideration ?
with out giving the sequences if all operations are put in to routing what will be the issue ?
    one doubt with this is
sequence 2 is handling time 2 min  and when we assign return operation to this sequence as operation 30 of main line where in that operation we give time as 1 min suppose
whether system takes 2+1 = 3 mins time ? or 1min only from mail line sequence ?
    pl clarify

  • Error in schedulinq parallel sequences with flow production operations

We have a routing with a standard sequence with operations in wich we have set "Continuous flow prod"
    and "Min. Send-Ahead Qty=1".
We have a parallel sequence as well with operations set in the same way "Continuous flow prod"
    and "Min. Send-Ahead Qty=1".
When you run the transaction "MD11" to create a planned order for the item the scheduling of the operations is correct
as regard the standard sequence, the system, correctly,  schedules the operations overlapping
them according to lead time set in the operation details.
But the last operation of the parallel sequence is scheduled to finish the whole lot before the operation
following the "return operation" . The system doesn't overlap this operation. In this way the
last item of the last operation (in the parallel sequence) isn't finished at the same time
with the last item of the "return operation" (in the standard sequence) as we like it would be.
We have set "Backwards scheduling" type on customizing and we use the "Alignment key= 2 "
for standard sequence and in the parallel as well. We have also tryed to set "Alignment key= 1"
in the parallel sequence but the results are howewer not correct.
In conclusion the schedulation of  continuous flow production operations
doesn't work properly between operations belonging to parallel sequences.
Could you suggest me what to do?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
      I tried with 5 ops 10, 20, 30 ,40,50 ( same work center  wc1)
Set up time 1, Process time 1min for 1 pc
set the continuous flow prodn i at op 20 with min send ahead qty 1
      Also a parallel seq was created with 3 ops op20 ,30 , 40 .
set up time was 2 min for all work centers( same work center wc2) and proc time
time is 1 min for  1 pc
In that set the  continuous flow prodn at op 20 with min send ahead qty 1
      sceduling type was forward
.Alignment key was 2 for both std seq and parallel seq .
After scheduling found that op 20 in std seq starts at 6.14am and op 40 ends
at 6.47 am where as in parallel seq op 20 starts at 6.11 am and op 40 ends at
at 6.47 am which is correct.( branch op is 20 and return op is  40)
The three minutes late start in op 20 of std seq  is due to 3 minutes extra time
defined for three  work centers setup time.
I also tried with alignment key 1in both std seq and parellel seq.
Kindly check that you have maintained the continous flow prodn radio button
in the same operation in both std seq and parallel seq.
