Parallels 5 Install on Lion

My version is:
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Am I out of luck?

Yes, you need Parallels 6 or preferably (since you need to upgrade anyway) 7.

  • After installing Mountain Lion two drives on my network cannot be accessed.  I am using Parallels to utilize QuickBooks ERP.  The programs and data are on the drives that I can no longer access.  Suggestions?

After installing Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro, I can no longer access two shared drives.  Diagostics cannot solve the problem.  I am using Parallels to run Qucikbooks ERP on these shared drives.  How do I get my Mac to see these drives and access them?

Don't know what to tell you, but I also have an AEBS-Gen5 with a MBP Retina and Mac Mini using WiFi. Both are running Mountain Lion and I don't have any WiFi connection issues. Two iPhones in the household use WiFi with no issues along with a printer and 2 Windows 7 laptops.
First thing I would try is to shutdown all computers connected to the AEBS. Then power off the AEBS and finally the cable/DSL modem. Then reverse the order and power on the cable modem, wait for all the lights to be solid, power on the AEBS, wait for the light to show solid green; then power up a computer that uses WiFi.
If the above doesn't work, you might try repairing permissions via Disk Utility. If that doesn't help maybe a PRAM reset would work.

  • Should I close close Parallels before installing Mountain Lion?

Should I close Parallels before installing Mountain Lion?

Thanks, William, for the speedy reply.  I hope I'm one of the lucky ones that can give the update 5 stars.  I upgraded my Parallels to version 8 and found a slight speed increase. Everything is backed up in case the upgrade causes problems.

  • Can I run OS 10.6.x in Paralleles installed on a Mac running OS 10.7.2?

Can I run OS 10.6.x in Paralleles installed on a Mac running OS 10.7.2?
This question is related to my need to continuing using Quicken 2005, which is not supported by OS 10 7.2.  If I could load Mac OS 10.6.8 into Parallels and run Quicken 2006 in an emulated version of Mac OS, I could then run 10.7.2 and move onto iCloud.  I've looked at a couple of altehrnaftves to Quicken 2005 but none are as comprehensive as Quicken.

    Hi John,
That is an interesting question, to which I don't know the answer. You might try it on a separate drive or partition and see how it works. I run Snow and Lion but on separate partitions on my internal HDD. If you try it please let us know how it works.

  • [SOS][Urgent]Can I install OS Lion 10.7.x on late 2012 mac mini?

    Hi all,
I got a late 2012 mac mini device which comes with preinstalled Mt Lion(10.8.2).
I need to run dual boot it with Lion 10.7.x. How can I install OS Lion 10.7.x on this device on different partition?
I've tried many ways but have not managed to do it(Create Lion USB bootable use my friend Lion OS dmg file).
    Please help me.
    TriQuang

In general, Macs cannot boot an operating system older than the one they were shipped with installed.  There are some exceptions with those computers that shipped at the time of transition to a new operating system and still had the firmware that permited the immediately previous operating system.  Once the firmware has been updated they can no longer boot the previous operating system.
Depending on the exact manufacture/release date of your computer it may have been possible to boot both Lion and Mountain Lion, but your use of a USB and attempt to boot showed that was not possible.
There is a technique some users say works in this case...and that is to install software such as Parallels 8 on an external drive partition, then install Lion on that partition and run it in a virtual machine environment.  This gets very complicated but can be done.
Another alternative you might want to consider is looking at the Apple on-line store, lower left side of that window, and see what refurbished equipement is available that runs Lion.  Those computers have been completely gone over by Apple, new batteries for the portable models, new caes, any faults repaired, and come with new computer one-year warranties.  They are indistinguishable from a new computer.  And if there is one that meets your needs you would have your current machine running ML and another running Lion.

  • I have just installed Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard, I now can't open Photoshop?

Hi everyone, I have just installed Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard. The installation went smooth and woks well. Now I find that Ican't open either Photoshop CS or Microsoft Word. I upgraded in order to install Lightroom 5, obviously there is now an incompatability, is there a work around?

If that is the original Photoshop CS, and Word 2004 or earlier, then they won't open because Lion and Mountain Lion do not support PowerPC apps. They must be Intel code. Snow Leopard could run them because it included Rosetta, a PowerPC to Intel (and back) interpreter.
    You have a few options.
    1) Go back to Snow Leopard.
    2) Update your apps to compatible versions.
    3) If you have Mountain Lion because newer apps require it then:
    a) Install Snow Leopard Server (currently being sold by Apple for $20) in a VM such as Parallels, and then run your PPC apps in the VM.
    b) Install Snow Leopard on a separate partition and boot to that version of OS X when you need to use those older apps.

  • HT1338 how to remove vista from my mac, now that i have installed mountain lion, as i need to free up space on y hard drive

i have installed mountain lion, and now need to completely remove vista and parallels from my mac, to free up the space on my hard drive, boot camp wont help. and the new update of lion has totaly closed these two software programms

All Mac operating systems use any free space on your hard drive as virtual memory, and this virtual memory plays a part in how well your computer performs. Because of this, the more data you have on your hard drive, the less virtual memory becomes available. Therefore, in order to help increase your Mac boot time, and keep your computer running smoothly, periodically cleaning your hard drive is necessary. To clean it up you want to get rid of any old or unnecessary files. You can do this manually by removing unused applications, emptying your trash etc.,

  • Installed Mountain Lion: Fonts Disappeared In Photoshop But OK In Word

Installed Mountain Lion yesterday. Install went OK.
Was surprised to find a Parallels helper app in Incompatible Software folder, no big deal. May need to reinstall Authentec Truesuite for fingerprint reader but am quite surprised to see my hundreds of fonts disappear from Adobe Photoshop CS6 when I launched it in ML OS10.8 . Any ideas on how to recover the fonts?
The interesting thing is the fonts are all there in Microsoft Word. Thanks.
    Imran

Even though you can access the outside world via Ethernet cable, you should be able to use wifi - I had no problems when I upgraded.
Try taking your question to the Mountain Lion forum and see if any users there are experiencing similar problems.

  • HT3258 Is there a version of Parallels ready for Lion?

I just installed Mountain Lion and it is saying that the version of Parallels I have is not compatible.  Is there a compatible version of Parallels at this point?

Yes, the latest build of Parallels 7 is ready to run on Mountain Lion (accoriding to parallels.com).

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.

  • My Macbook pro is running slow. Should I do a clean install before installing Mountain Lion?

My Macbook Pro has been taking forever to start up, and open windows, plus I get a lot of the spinning wheel of slow death when I'm working in my design programs. I HATE messing with my systems, because something always seems to go wrong.
Also, I have an iMac too. Can I install it on both machines if it is downloaded instead of a disk? Is that allowed?

Fix your Machines BEFORE Upgrading the OS... Otherwise you will only compound your issues...
Basically... Make sure you have enough Free Hard Drive space for your Mac to Perform as expected...
Rule of thumb is about 25 GB +
This is what Apple has to say.

You can install it on any computer you own... Providing the System Requirements are met...
Install Mountain Lion on multiple Computers
Log into App Store on your other Computer(s), being sure to use the Apple ID that Originally purchased ML...

  • How do I Install Mountain Lion on a Mac with 2 Drives

    Good day ALL,
I am upgrading my Mac mini to add a second hard drive (solid state).  After the HD install is complete I plan to re-install Mountain Lion and transfer my Applications, Files, etc from my backup.  I am very comfortable with installing Mountian Lion on the solid state drive and making it the bootbale drive, my questions are:
    1.  It is a 120G soloid state hard drive, so I only plan to use it for the OSX system, Library and Applications.  Should I include other files?
    2.  I plan to use my 750G SATA drive for the Users.  How do I set up the User Folder archive on this drive?  Do I just move it?
    3.  Then how do I ensure the User Folder on my backup, gets retored on the right drive?
    Thanks

    Thanks
    Regarding 1:
$ cd /Users. sudo ditto myname /Volumes/TimeMachine/myname  copies everything in $HOME to non-TM backup.
Ensured latest SSD firmware up to date.
Clean install of ML to SSD from 8GB USB stick created by Lion Diskmaker.
$ cd /Users. sudo ditto /Volumes/TimeMachine/myname myname (see part 2 for /Users on another drive)
Added latest Xcode and command-line tools. Added VirtualBox 4.1.20. Put the 65GB VirtualBoxVMs folder on the second drive. Edited the ~/Library/Virtualbox/VirtualBox.xml file for the new mount points. Beware that many SSD (including Vertex) warn not to exceed 50% drive capacity or they will invoke slower drive controller algorithm. After some clean-up and re-arrangement, I have 98GB free on this SSD. It sings.
Files that are heavily accessed/shared by users would be consideration for the SSD
    Regarding 2:
If you have sufficient external storage, back-up your pre-ML /Users either with ditto as I did, or with TM, somewhere other than the 750GB drive.
Use DiskUtility and repartition the 750 as one (or more) GUID HFS+Journaled partitions depending on planned usage.
Reverse the back-up to put your user(s) on the 750GB drive
In System Preferences > Users & Groups, unlock, then right mouse button click on individual user names. Advanced options ... will appear. For Home directory, Choose ... the particular mount point for individual user accounts now on the 750GB drive. Done.
    Regarding 3:
Because you have moved individual user accounts from the internal drive where your last TM backup occurred before ML installation, TimeMachine will not understand (as far as I know), the new /Volumes/750GB/User/you home directory location that you just changed in #2. Another reason I used ditto(1).
If you do not want Spotlight to index that 750GB drive, you need to inform Spotlight Preferences > Privacy to exclude the drive.
    Hope this helps.

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion.  This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store.  Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it.  I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date.  It is usually correct, to within a few weeks.  A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.
    I hope this helps.

I would delete the account and try to re-enter it. Also, you have to let your firm's IT department know that you want to sync work email on your personal devices before they actually work.

  • After installing Mountain Lion my MacBookPro crashes after disconnecting from Cinema Display

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion on my 15" MacBookPro (early 2011 first with Tunderbolt connector) it crashes after disconnecting from Cinema display (this Cinema does not have Thunderbolt but mini display port). It woked fine under Lion.
This crash occurs in following situation:
MacBookPro is in closed clam shell operation. When Cinema display is still connected, I put MacBookPro into sleep. Then I disconnect Cinema display mini diplay connector from Thuderbotl port.
When I get home and open MacBookPro it is in deep kernel crash.
    It happens every time.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Rich
