  • Will Parallels Desktop 9 work with MacOS 10.8.5?

I have just updated a co-worker's MacBook Pro in our area to Mac OS 10.8.5. They were on 10.7.4 before. Their current version of Parallels Desktop will not run on 10.8.5 (the icon in Dock is crossed out.) I see that the just-released Parallels Desktop 9 will work with 10.8.4, but does anyone know if it will also work with 10.8.5?

  • Parallels don't work with MacBook Pro mid 2012

Parallels don't work with new MBP. It operates with 2011 and under portables.
No answer from Parallels: get you something good?
           Regards

Talk to NOVA Development providing your license no.  They will respond.  If this would have happened to me I'd check permission errors.  If none, I would use the DMG file for paralllels, uninstall and reinstall from scratch.

  • Msft ent desktop 7000 works with Macbook Pro 10.5.8 but not mini 10.6.1

I just purchased a Mac Mini with 10.6.1. I'm using it as an entertainment system hooked up to my 60 inch plasma. I bought a Microsoft Bluetooth Entertainment Desktop 7000 keyboard and mouse. i like the keyboard and it all works except for the integrated trackpad. At first i thought it was because it wasn't fully Mac compatible but when I tried it on my Macbook Pro 10.5.8 the trackpad worked fine.
    Any suggestions??

    Hi,
This is a guess: The MacBook Pro has a built-in trackpad, while the Mac Mini doesn't. Maybe it's missing a driver. When you have it connected to your MacBook Pro, try to look at your "Trackpad" system preference. Does that exist on your Mini? Also, try comparing the System Profiler outputs, especially concerning your USB.
It makes it a little more challenging when your systems aren't both the same OS level :-D, so some things will be different between the two systems just due to the OS levels.

  • Macbook air e parallels desktop 8

    Ciao,
per il Parallels Desktop 8 è meglio il Macbook Air i5 o i7?

First of all, you do understand that Parallels (and VMware Fusion and Virtual Box, as Kurt Lang points out) will allow you to run Windows but you have to buy your own copy of Windows to install in whatever virtualizing software you use. Second, since the Mac OS, the virtualizing software, and Windows all need their own portion of RAM to run and they're all running at the same time, they'll be fighting over the 2GB of RAM on your Mac, and performance will likely be very poor if it works at all. And while one advantage of virtualizing Windows (rather than running it in BootCamp) is that you can use both Windows and the Mac at the same time, I doubt you'll be able to do much in either with that RAM limitation. As the Parallels 9 User's Guide says, you'll need:
    "A Mac computer with:
An Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better
At least 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended to run Windows 7)
Note: Your Mac must have enough RAM memory to use Mac OS X and its applications plus the memory required for each additional operating system (and its programs) that you want to use simultaneously."

    Thank you

The 15" is simply a more powerful computer and Parallels can and does use the maximum performance of the processor, discrete graphics card and as much RAM as you want to throw at it. I've a 15" late 2011 model with 16GB of RAM and I've 4GB dedicated to running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit under Parallels. It is, in my opinion, the best virtual machine software out there.
With either machine you can upgrade to 16GB of RAM and, if you're going to be running Parallels 8 - with whichever version of Windows, Linux, etc., that you want, I would recommend the upgrade (note that either machine that you've picked can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Windows XP iTunes won't launch (using Parallels Desktop 4.0)

After installing latest version it won't launch at all.
I get an alert with a red cross that says:
"The itunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"
I am using Parallels Desktop 4.0, with Windows XP SP2.
I've uninstalled all iTunes files, and reinstalled. Still nothing.
Before the update, iTunes would launch, but it said that the library couldn't be used because of access privileges.
    Someone please help...

I get the error message "itunes.exe has caused errors in windows. Error log created. Windows will now close." I've tried fixing iTunes using the "repair" option in itunes.exe, uninstalling and reinstalling both QuickTime and iTunes, and am now out of options.
    Help, please!

  • Running 32-bit windows via Parallel desktop in 64-bit Mac OSX?

Hi all. I am thinking about running 32-bit version of windows XP in the Parallel Desktop 9, while the macbook itself runs 64-bit Mac OS X Mavericks. Please tell me what you think and what you know about this. Thank you in advance.

You can run any operating system supported by Parallels in Parallels. Go to the Parallels site to see what operating systems are supported. I believe XP is supported. Whether your Mac is 64 bit or 32 bit has no bearing on what you want to do.

    Parallels Desktop and Mavericks
What versions of Parallels Desktop are compatible with Mavericks?
Parallels Desktop 9 is compatible with Mavericks. Parallels Desktop 8 will work with Mavericks but does not take advantage of Mavericks features. Please make sure you are running the most recent build of Parallels Desktop. Click on the Parallels Desktop menu and select “Check for Updates”
If you are running  Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac or earlier, please visitKB117394 for important information regarding incompatibility of Mavericks and Parallels Desktop 7 and below versions.

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • HT3986 Windows on MacBook with Parallels Desktop 7

I need to install Windows on a MacBook 13" 5.1 bought May 2009. Operating system Mac OS X 10.5.8. Processor 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory 2GB 1067 Mhz DDR3. What Windows software do I need to work with this laptop and Parallels Desktop 7?  Does in need to be 32 bit or 64 bit?
    Wouls appreciate any guidance.

I think you would be able to work with either 32 or 64 bit windows, but you would need to double check with the Parallels support list.
If you do not already have Parallels, there is also VMware Fusion and VirtualBox (free from Oracle (formally Sun)).
I would suggest you think about adding more RAM, as running a VM can be very memory hungry.  RAM upgrades are not that expensive.  Check with Crucial.com and MacSales.com as respected Mac RAM vendors.
