Parallels on macbook air.

I recently downloaded windows 8.1 from the microsoft store. How do I implement that file into the parallels software?

hi there,
open Parallels Desktop
click on the + in the lower left corner
select New from the menu
Select Install Windows or another OS from DVD or Image file (the left of the larger icons).
point the open file dialog to your Download folder (or the place where you stored the iso-file from Microsoft)
Double click on that file to start the installation process
Follow the instructions on screen
That should do the trick

  • Fusion or Parallels on Macbook Air?

What should I use... Parallels or Fusion to run WinXP on a Macbook Air?

After doing a google search, there were a couple of links that compared Bootcamp, Fusion and Parallels; I chose VMware Fusion. Mostly because I have experience with VMware products and I was just able to copy a VM guest (WinXP) from my Vista machine to my MBA.
With bootcamp I believe there were some problems with drivers (the trackpad and battery/sleep not working properly), you'd have to search for the details. Fusion is running great, no problems; I haven't tried Unity yet.

  • DVD player seen by Parallels/Windows but not by Macbook Air

    Hi
I have a Macbook Air with Windows running on Parallels.  I have a DVD drive connected via a Thunderbolt display.  If I put a disk into the drive it is seen by Windows and not by the Macbook Air.  How can I get it to be seen by the MBA and is there a way of switching - eg choosing whether the MBA or Windows sees it
    Many thanks
    Ken

I have a similar problem. I have not used my iPod in a few years. I recently bought a mac. The iPod syncs fine on the windows, but is completely unrecognized by my MacBook Air. I had to buy a USB connector because my iPod had only a firewire cable. Perhaps that's the issue? Disk Utility doe not recognize it. ITunes does not recognize it. In disk mode the screen still reads "OK to disconnect" after I plug it in. Any ideas? (I followed the Rs on the Windows where it's working fine...)
I am abandoning my PC altogether and I am becoming addicted to podcasts. Getting this to work with my MacBook Air would satisfy my new addiction.
    Thanks,

  • How to backup both my MacBook air files and Windows 7 files via Parallels?

    Hi,
I'm new to apple support........I need to purchase an external drive to backup my files from my MacBook air but I also need to backup two main programs that i use for my business on Win7 via Parallels.
Can I use the same drive and/or time machine for both?
Or do I need to use two different methods?
    Thanks in advance!
    Chef Heather

Any backup utility will backup the pseudo-disk that Parallels uses just like any other file on the drive. But if you are going to do that I recommend not using Time Machine. Time Machine will backup the pseudo-disk every hour even if only one byte changed. In no time at all your backup drive will be full. I suggest you use a different utility that overwrites changed files, only.

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • Visual Studio 2008 on a Macbook Air with Parallels/VMWare

    Hi,
I am looking to purchase an apple laptop to replace my ageing Windows behemoth. I am a developer who writes software on both the Windows and OSX platforms. At the moment, I have to write the Mac apps on my iMac, and the Windows apps on the laptop.
Now the time has come to upgrade, I want to have the best of both worlds, and have both XCode and Microsoft Visual Studio available on the same machine - hence looking at virtualisation on the mac platform.
Has anyone tried running Visual Studio 2008 on the Macbook Air over either Parallels or VMWare? How does it hold up?

With a 15 inch MacBook Pro:
I have VS Pro 2008 running in a Windows XP VM under VMWare and, at the same time, Windows Server 2003 with IIS and SQL (for development - not production!!!) running as a separate VM. I've also watched movies and used iTunes while doing this - unplugged. Sometimes the fan kicks in, but otherwise it's pretty good. With Unity running, all the unnecessary Windows nastiness is hidden away.
I don't know that I'd do this with an Air (personally, I can't wait to get one of the new 17s - I never considered the Air as the screen is way too small for coding, viewing sites, running SQL, checking the event viewer, etc.)
Oh, and get lotsa hard disk space!

  • HT5634 HOW WOULD I DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 7 BCA FOR MY MACBOOK AIR. I HAVE PARALLELS 7 FOR MAC AND WANT TO RUN QUICKEN FOR WINDOWS

Which systems of Windows 7 do I download for my MacBook Air?  I have OS 10.8,5  I installed Parallels 7 for Mac and would like to run Quicken for Windows.

You can run Windows 7 in Parallels. You do not need to run Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows if using Parallels. Visit the Parallels site for instructions regarding running Windows in Parallels.

  • MacBook Air or MacBook Pro running Parallels

I'm looking at purchasing a new MacBook within the next month but i'm not sure which one to go with. I want to be able to install Parallels and run Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Access.
According to Parallels website, I should be able to achieve this with the MacBook Air but want to ask the communitie.
    Thoughts?

I am using MBA 13' with 4 gig ram. Well i cannot speak for Parallel, but i can give you an example of running Windows XP SP3 using VMware on my Lion.
Typically there is ~2.5 to 2.7 gig ram left after Lion boot up. I alocate about 784~1gig ram for my virtual XP SP3 for compiling code/programming. Seem like Lion proccessor is able to handle the arm c compilation gracefully, and the read/write speed on SSd is not an issue either, even on a virtual machine...
But..i am left with <500 mb ram even on normal usage. If you happen to "reboot" your virtual machine, ram usage will drop even further, sometime hit < 50mb. Maybe the nature of VMware Fusion is to just retain and increase the ram during rebooting..but it is really awful to have <50 mb for a heavy OS.
if you have tested Parallel, which may occupy lesser ram and handle ram better than VMware, or Win server uses lesser ram than Win XP, then i dun see any problem. we can just use ethernet converter if your wifi source is not stable.
Dun forget the really "cool" feeling while you are using a ultra-book in PC term.

  • Macbook air - parallels Desktop and microsoft SQL server

I bought a macbook air and parallels desktop+windows 7 to install maxsea (for sea navigation). This software requires SQL server 2008 express SP1. However I can not install SQL server because of an issue on the performance counter.
How can I fix this issue? is it due to macbook air? (I was able to run this program on a imac+parallels4)
    Thanks

  • Macbook air e parallels desktop 8

    Ciao,
per il Parallels Desktop 8 è meglio il Macbook Air i5 o i7?

First of all, you do understand that Parallels (and VMware Fusion and Virtual Box, as Kurt Lang points out) will allow you to run Windows but you have to buy your own copy of Windows to install in whatever virtualizing software you use. Second, since the Mac OS, the virtualizing software, and Windows all need their own portion of RAM to run and they're all running at the same time, they'll be fighting over the 2GB of RAM on your Mac, and performance will likely be very poor if it works at all. And while one advantage of virtualizing Windows (rather than running it in BootCamp) is that you can use both Windows and the Mac at the same time, I doubt you'll be able to do much in either with that RAM limitation. As the Parallels 9 User's Guide says, you'll need:
    "A Mac computer with:
An Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better
At least 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended to run Windows 7)
Note: Your Mac must have enough RAM memory to use Mac OS X and its applications plus the memory required for each additional operating system (and its programs) that you want to use simultaneously."

    Klaus,
Meine Empfehlung: schau dir ganz kritisch an, womit du bereits 450 GB verbraten hast und überprüfe, was du davon auslagern kannst
    Gruss

  • 11" MacBook Air and Parallels

I am thinking of installing Parallels 6 and Windows 7 on an external hard drive to use with my 11" MacBook Air (late 2010 model).
Has anyone had any experience doing this?  Can it be done and run from an external drive.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
You can store the virtual machines/hard drives anywhere you want. But I believe that the Parallels Desktop software needs to be installed on the boot volume. It's been a while since I've tried it, but I know in Parallels 5 (they're on 6 now) the program had to be installed on the local drive but I stored all my VMs on an external. Given how little space requirements there are for the application, it hopefully won't be a problem for you.

  • Will installing windows 8.1 with parallels on a 2013 MacBook Air slow it down and eat up battery time

Hello, will installing windows 8.1 using Palelles 9 slow down my new 2013 MacBook Air  128 ssd with 8g ram ?
Also will installing windows cut down on the battery life ( hours per use after a charge ) ?
    Thank you

Update: I just tried with Windows 8 via DVD and recieved the same error.
"Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of the installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."
