Parallels: transferring info from a Windows program to a Mac program
I've been devoted to a Mac for a few years now, but I recently had to switch back to Windows because of its far superior voice recognition software. (I was recently disabled, and now rely on voice recognition to type.)
If I were to buy a new Mac and use my Dragon NaturallySpeaking professional software (the Windows voice recognition program) via Parallels, does anyone know if I would be able to use that to type in a Macintosh program? I understand that I could stay within the virtual Windows platform or do separate tasks on the Mac platform, but I'm not sure if I would be able to transfer the information gathered by the Windows program into a Mac program.
If I'm able to do this, it would mean I could finally switch back to a Mac. Thanks in advance!

Transferring Playlists From A Windows Computer to a Mac (with an IPod???)
I recently switched from a Windows computer to a Mac and the folk at the Apple Store copied my documents and music files to the new Mac. All of my music that I had on ITunes on the Windows computer was transferred, including all the purchased music. The only thing that wasn't transferred were my extensive playlists, which I've spent years creating. I figured I could do it with my IPod and I was about to synch my IPod with the new Mac, when I saw the message advising me that everything on the IPod would be erased including, presumably, the existing playlists. Now, I realize I could simply print out what's on the playlists from my old Windows computer and manually recreate the playlists, but that would be a laborious pain in the butt. There's gotta be a simpler way but so far so one seems to be able to tell me what it is. A few people have told me there's no way to do it, but I have to believe there's a way because it would be foolish and dumb for there not to be. Any ideas? Thanks.
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and clone playlists from an iPod. You could start your research with the three below, I believe they can all copy playlists and other data. If you search the web I'm sure you'll find others:

My last iMac died and I've got a new one. I've also got the hard drive from the old iMac, but when I try to open things from it, such as the address book, the new version opens and I can't find a way to get at the info that is in my old address book. I want to e-mail friends to tell them that I'm back on-line, but I can't get at their addresses. Advice received with thanks.The Address Book data is stored at the following location - Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook.
With the Address Book application quit on your new iMac, transfer the AddressBook folder from the old hard drive and place it in the same location on your new hard drive at Home > Library > Application Support.
This will replace the existing AddressBook folder in this location.
Launch Address Book and all contacts from the old drive should be completely restored. -

Are you using WiFi? if you are this will take a long time, switching to a wired connection will go much faster but as you have started I would not change now. -
I'm transfering info from my old pc to my new macbook pro, using Windows Migration Assistant. All was fine but has now lost connection (wifi) and won't reconnect. Mac is showing transfer window and I cant escape, I'm new to mac
You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

Transferring info from old Mac?
How do I get to the Setup Assistant? I declined transferring info from my old Mac when I first set up my new MacBookAir because I didn't have access to my previous computer at the time. Now I need to do it and can't find the Setup Assistant screen that asks if I already own a Mac. Help!
Use the Migration Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Note that it will create a new Mac OS X user account.

I have many hours of home movies copied years ago to DVDs. Can I edit them using iMovie? All the Help instructions assume that you will be transferring info from cameras not from DVDs.

Hollow stars.... itunes assigns an album average based on my star ratings, but in what scenario do Songs get assigned a hollow star? does itunes acquire info from other media programs or solely from what ive rated in itunes, or does itunes use other peoples ratings... Hollow Star assignment basis?
If you assign songs a rating an unrated album gets an automatic rating, which you can override by rating it.
If you assign an album a rating unrated songs get an automatic rating, which you can override by rating them.
iTunes doesn't import ratings from tags, or third party services. You set them.
You can't turn automatic ratings off.

I can not sync new songs on new computer. When I transferred info from the old computer to the new one it also took the identity from the old computer
so it says I can not do anything because I currently have 2 identities.If you have successfully transferred your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then go ahead and restore the Nano to factory settings in iTunes on your new PC. This process will deassociate the iPod with the computer and allow it to start syncing with the new one.

Can someone please leave a simple, step by step guide to help me move my iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac? I want an identical library on my Mac with play counts, playlists, device backups and all of that stuff. I don't care if it takes a long time to do as long as it is simple! Thanks.
I can't find anything helpful! I want a way to copy the entire library with device backups, playlists and all that stuff! I want it to be like a mirror of the library on my PC!

Migration Assistant: Problems transferring data from PC (XP SP3) to new Mac Pro 2012 - can not get Migration Assistant to work as PC will not display verfify passcode
Hello, I am having problems migrating data from my old PC running XP (SP3) to my new Mac Pro 2012 using the Migration Assistant.
- I downloaded and installed the Windows Migration Assistant from Apple
- My Mac recognized PC and displays passcode
- The sasscode does not show / display on my PC
- My Mac is then stuck in "authenticating" loop and the PC is stuck "waiting for Mac to connect."
- Both computers are connected on same network (have connected PC on WIFI and using ethernet to Reuter)
I have looked on support site and only response I saw says to reinstall Windows Migration Assistant (which I have done)
Any ideas? If cant get this to workare there instructions for manually bring across relevant data eg itunes music and apps, photos, picasa data etc?Why not turn off the Windows firewall and uninstall any other firewall software you have installed?
If you are using a Norton product uninstall it and discard it. To fully unistall most Norton products you have to go to the Norton website and download a soecial program to completely get rid of it. The normal uninstall feature built into the program will not remove all of it. -
How do i combine iTunes libraries ? from old Windows machine to my Mac?
Hi there...I have an expiring Windows machine where my kids first sync'd their iPods....That machine is dying and i want to bring those songs (hundreds!) to my Mac computer....But I already have lots of music on my Mac....every time my kids have tried connecting their iPods to the Mac it tells them that it will erase their music and install the music I have on the Mac....So...is there a way for me to add the music from the Windows machine to my Mac library? Or...since they each have an account on the Mac...can each account have its own iTunes where they could bring in their music? that way they could at least save the songs they have in their iPods. i know the music will not be transferred from the iPod to the Mac but I have backup diskettes I made on the windows machine. Can i use those? I am hoping I do not lose all that music ($$$)

I transferred data from my Macbook Pro to my Mac mini but it forced me to make a new user for my old data. How do I transfer my music, pics, and docs from the "old" user to the new user (so that I only have one user instead of 2?)
Unless you transfer the files from Setup Assistant, Migration Assistant creates a new user with the data.
To transfer the files to your first user, you have to log on this new user, and copy all your files to /Users/Shard folder. This is a folder where you can put the files you want to share between two or more users, and all users can read and write in it.
After copying the files, go to your first user, open /Users/Shared folder, and copy the files to your user folders. If you migrated applications, you must know that they are stored in a common folder (/Applications), so you don't have to transfer them. To open /Users/Shared folder, open Go menu (in the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type the folder -
