Parameter field usage with an ACT! database

Hello,
I have tried using the parameter field functionality in Crystal Reports 2008 with an ACT! database, but it doesn't work. I have used parameter fields with other databases and did not have this problem, so I don't know why it's not working, unless this functionality is not supported with an ACT! database. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the report and let it sit for at least 10 minutes, but it did not retrieve any records or produce an error message.
The table has 200 records and should only retrieve 26 records.
I'm not sure that I understand your question about whether or not the record selection is being pushed to the database.
The ACT database is on my laptop and so is Crystal Reports. If you tell me what to check, I will gladly do so.
Is there a list of known issues with Crystal when using an ACT! database? I ask because there is other Crystal functionality that does not work with an ACT! database.

I see by your post that you aren't able to print from the Act Database Software, but you can print from other applications. I would like to help you out today.
It might be a issue with the printer language, it might not be compatible with the Act Database Software.
The language on the printer is HP PCL 3 enhanced.
What language is the Act Database Software?
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

Field Guide 8 - Configuring the Database but problems with user id

Iam just running into problem after problem with Chapter 8 dataproviders when I'am about 2/3 of the way through.
I'am now trying to configure the "Login Data Structure" Page 363. After adding the derbyclient.jar file. Then opening DerbyLogin.java and thereafter clicking "Run" as instructed in the book I get this error.

It's telling me that user ID is invalid. I have no idea what my db user id is or how I can check it with the bundled database as there is no documentation I have found about that. Nor do I even know what I have to do to properly configure this app to properly work with the bundled database as the field guide says absolutely nothing about this!Message was edited by:

Getting Error with date parameter field -"Invalid DATE"

I created a report with 9.2 version. And i created 2 date parameter fields in it. And within crystal reports it works fine.
But If, I call from the VS2005 crystalreport.net(report document) SDK , i am getting error as Invalid Date" enter a Date Value". Actually it is a dtp control. how can i modify it.

There's not enough details to get a good understanding of your scenario, but it sounds like you're using some kind of date control to retrieve the date value and pass it to the report's parameter field at runtime. If this is correct, it sounds like the format of the date value from the control may not be what the report is expecting. To debug, I would first use hardcoded values when you set the report parameter fields to see what works. Then compare that to what the return value is from the control to see if they match. I suspect the formats differ. I did a quick search on the BOBJ kbase and found a couple of articles that may help you. Hi,
As provided by Atish has provided the required details for you.
1. Table TPARA is where Parameter-ID's are defined.
2. Table DD04L is where a parameter-ID is associated to data element.
Note that all parameter-ID's that are defined are not necessarily to be used on data elements. We can define parameter-ID which can be used programatically instead of data elements.
Considering your examples: BUK & F02 are used at data element definition whereas the others were not defined at data element but were used in Programs.
Try doing a where-used list on the same and you will understand how they were used.

Need help with parameter fields and report selection.

Hi all:
I hope some one can help me with the problem I am having with my parameter field and record selection.
First, can anyone explain to me why my parameter field CustStart, which is dynamic and is based on the field Customer in the table CustMaster. There are over 1800 records in the CustMaster table but the drop down list only shows maybe about half of them and there is no way to scroll down to the last customer record. What am I doing wrong?
Second, is there any way to base a parameter field on a formula field on my report? On my report I have created a field Cust that is the customer name and number joined together in one field. I would very much llike to use this formula in my record selection and in my parameter field. Can it be done?

You can use the following for changin increasing the LOV.
Crystal Reports XI BusinessObjects Enterprise XI
For performance reasons, in Crystal Reports XI Release 1 and Release 2 the maximum number of values that are returned for a list of values is set to 1000. If you have a cascading List of Values (for example Country > Region > City), the lowest level (in this case City) will only display a maximum of 1000 values. This means that the higher-level prompts may display far fewer values than you expect. The list of values provides the data for the dynamic parameter list.
How can you modify the maximum number of values available in a dynamic parameter list?
Resolution
To increase the maximum number of values available in a dynamic parameter list, you must add a registry key.
CAUTION     The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys and Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.
Crystal Reports XI Release 1
1.     Create a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV.
NOTE     Alternatively, you can create the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV and that key will override the settings of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV key.
2.     Add a string value "MaxRowsetRecords" and set the value to the maximum number of values that you desire for your report. NOTE: The value 0 (Unlimited) will not work with BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI, you must specify another value.
NOTE     The higher the number of values is, the longer it will take the Enter Values dialog box to populate with values.

Report using Parameter Field

Hi,
I have designed one report using Parameter Field which is Cost Code (string).
When I run my report, I ask to enter cost code. When I enter cost code 30, I get report for all transaction of cost code 30 and 300.
How could I avoid this problem.

Check the query formed after giving the input parameter. Goto Database --> Show Sql Query.

Parameter Field Value returns "no records"

I am using Crystal 11 and am new to Crystal but not to other Reportwriters. I have a Crystal report that has 2 parameter fields, one is "Enter Date" that prompts for the start and end date, the other "Select Items" prompts for the supply Item Numbers to be included in the report. In the "Edit Parameter: Select Items:" edit/create parameter dialog, the Select Item parameter has "Allow Multiple values" and "Allow discrete values" set to true. The report runs fine and returns any items entered in the "Select Items" prompt that has usage during the start & end date. My problem is ... if the entered Item Number for the Select Items parameter returns no records, I cannot report that Item Number as having zero usage. I cannot find a way at the time of report running to identify and report the "not found" items. I would also like to report the Start and End Dates parameters requested, but cannot, the Enter Date parameter returns an empty parameter field across the whole report. I'm sure other users have had this problem of reporting the requested parameter values. Need assistance.

Jeff's answer is one way to do it. There are others:
If you want the items with no data interspersed with the other items (say, in item number order), then you'd change the report to use your item master table and do a left join from that to the usage data. If a field from the usage table is null, then there was no usage, and you can condition a message based on that.
Or, if your parameter selects item numbers without some type of "ALL" option, then you can use arrays to keep track of which if the selected items printed. Then in the report footer, compare the list of items reported to the parameter items, and show which item numbers had no usage. (This might run a tad faster than the separate subreport that Jeff suggested - but maybe not...)

Get the parameter fields defined in crystal report

I am porting my application from crystal 8.5 written in C++ to crystal 2008 in .net.
Here I am not making use of crystal report viewer neither I am creating .rpt in .net code.
I have a set of already created .rpt files.
I have written a function in .net to export the crystal report.
Its a generic function and will be called for multiple crystal reports.
I am passing the parameter values to the report by making use of the following function :
     ReportDocument repDoc;
     repDoc.SetParameterValue(APPTYPE, strNextToken[0]);
     repDoc.SetParameterValue(COMPORROLETYPE, strNextToken[1]);
Similarly I are setting other parameter values.
The problem here is that, all the reports do not have parameter fields defined that I am trying to set.
They may be present for one report and absent for another. In this case , if the report does not have a particular parameter
field, then it gives error on setting parameters and subsequently fails.
Now I want to find out through code what all parameter fields are defined in the report. Then I will only set those
parameter fields?
Please guide how can this be done.

Not as trivial as you might think. You will have to loop through all the sections of the report looking for the objects you need. I don't have a code specific to parameters, but looping through al the sections would be something like the code below. But... this will only show you parameters in a section. It will not show you parameters used in a formula, record selection formula, group selection formula, text field or a conditional formula. In order to get those parameters, you's have to parse out each of those objects looking for parameters. And this is probably not an exhaustive list of places to look for a parameter in the report. I get a headache just thinking about this...

Prefix parameter field

I have been provided with a report that requires the parameter field to be populated with the word u2018Weeku2019 and followed by the week number i.e. Week 02
I have an automated system for exporting reports via email, and I can set the parameters to enter dates or part of dates, however I am at a loss of how to have the word u2018Week u2018 (with a space at the end, thus before the week number).
Is there anyway in which I can prefix a parameter field.....so for the parameter of u201840u2019 the Select Expert would actually be checking u2018Week 40u2019 against the database?

This can be done like..
In existing report Go in Database Expert Create New ConnectionDouble click on Add Command
Write SQL as follows :
Select 'Week '+Week_no As Week from Table
It will create a command object, Now create a Dynamic Parameter based on the above command object Week.
In Record Selection check the Database field agains this parameter like ..
= Totext(right(New_Parameter,2)

Using Like Operator For Parameter Fields

I have been figuring around this for few days, appreciated anyone know this could assit me
I have a report which having a mobile no parameter fields.
In my database, my mobile no was not a clean entry.
For eg, a standard mobile number from Malaysia was 60126143331.
1) 60 - indicate country code (MYS)
2) 12 - indicate mobile operator
3) 6143331 - indicate phone number
Usually, peoples will entry it as 6012-6143331 or 012-6143331 or 0126143331 or 60126143331. In my CR report, i have a static mobile no selection. Currently, my filter selection will be as below:
{pax.mobile_no} = {?p_mobileno}
any possible to change it to like? meaning to say, if user enter 012-6143331 it will know that this was 6012-6143331 and the records will be selected into the report.
Appreciated anyone know this could assits.

D value in my database r not fix, some mobile no could b 7 digits some could b up to 12 digits. But I jz want user to enter mobile no in 10 digits only. Example, mobile no in db wa 60126661233. However, user input in parameter selection could only 0126661233 without 6. In some situation if mobile no in db was 6012-6661233, user input willb only 0126661233 n this input will b match with data in db using like operator.
I m wondering can this b archieve in cr?

Multiple Image Upload with save to database not working in IE anymore

Since updating IE to SP3 ADDT Multiple Image Upload with save to database does not work anymore in IE. It will show a regular file upload field, an does not allow selection of multiple files. It does work in Firefox, but not all my clients use firefox.
PSE Advice.

Hi,Using Crystal Report XI.I have a parameter field with Dynamic values that Queries the company field of an SQL Database.I have around 3500 companies in my DB. But when running my report (Using Crystal), only the first 1300 companies are being displayed in my pick list.I need to see the whole 3500 records. Any idea how to fix that?regards

Parameter field error

1. I am using the Crystal Reports XI IDE and I have created a report with a subreport that reads an Access database. I have added a record selector from the Selector Expert for a Survey Number. When I hard code a number into the expert and run the report it works fine. When I want to use a parameter field {?Survey Number} that is where my problems start. The dialog box doesn't look right as soon as it opens, instead of the OK and Cancel buttons I get: XOKX XCancelX. Loading Values into Parameter Fields

Good Morning,
I have a traditional crystal 2008 report (not inside of VB .Net) that prompts the user for Parameter Fields when it starts up. In some cases the user does not want this. Instead they would like Crystal to be able to prefill these Parameter Fields from a file; when this happens the user would not see the parameter fields screen and would be taken directly to the crystal report.
Have anyone done anything like this? It is possible?

No, you could save the report with default values or save it with data but it won't change unless someone resaves the report.
Another way would be to save the Parameter values in a database and then remove the parameters from the report and add record selection based on that field. How you get the new values in is again up to you.
Stand alone CR doesn't have the ability.
