  • OS X Mavericks installations fails after reboot, stuck. Safe mode does not help

Quick Summary: Installation of Mavericks gets stuck after reboot, no safe mode boot, only recovery console works.
    Update:  Currently following procedure http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US
I have upgrade 4 out of my 5 machines, but the most important iMac 27" mid 2010 went through with the installation and then got stuck on a grey screen with the apple logo and a spinning wheel for 6 hours.
A few restarts did not help.
Started from recovery a new download and install. But it ended up in the same end.
Trying safe mode/boot, but does not finish
Going back to recovery and try repair disk, does not help
Going to recovery using terminal resetpassword and then setting the permissions for all login accounts back, no good.
Going to recovery and using terminal to check /var/log of the mounted Macintosh HD.log shows at the end "The installation was successfull"
    System.log shows
com.apple.kextd: Failed to send personalities to the kernel.
Error: Couldn't send kext personalities to the IOCatalogue.
    Exited with code: 71
Throttling respawn: Will start in 8 seconds.
Resetting NVRAM/PRAM and reboot, waiting so far stuck but I still hear some disk activity, waiting a little bit longer.
    Any help?

Do you have a Recovery HD from your previous systems?
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Look for another Recovery HD, although you need the OS 10.9 one if it's available. If it's not, then you will need to start over from scratch by erasing the drive then reinstalling 10.9.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Dequeue failed after reboot

    hi,
Suppose i have three messages in a queue. They are
    message 1 with msgid F112A
    message 2 with msgid F112B
    message 3 with msgid F112C
I used PL/SQL callback method. When the stored procedure dequeue the message 1 (other 2 messages remain in queue) with browse mode, i purposely shutdown the database server and then reboot.(Meaning, during half way processing the message, i restart the db server)
However, found that the message 1 remain READY state in queue and no further processing on it, until it is expired.
WHile the message 2 and 3 have been successfully dequeue after reboot.
Why the message 1 failed to dequeue after reboot?
    Pls advise.

It seems that the ONS port of the listener conflicts with the ONS of the OPMN apply the following:
Explicitly disable the 10g TNS Listener from subscribing to the ONS.
Edit the active 10g listener.ora file and add the parameter below:
    SUBSCRIBE_FOR_NODE_DOWN_EVENT_<listener_name>=OFF
where <listener_name> would be replaced with the actual listener name
configured in the listener.ora file. For example, if the listener name is LISTENER (default), the parameter would be:
    SUBSCRIBE_FOR_NODE_DOWN_EVENT_LISTENER=OFF
    then restart the listener
This error message "127.0.0.1:6101 - listener BIND failed" should disappear.
    Hope this helps!

  • OSD TS application download fails after reboot - client incorrectly believes it "is on internet"

    Hello,
Our  SCCM infrastructure is configured to use SSL and it’s working, no problems in daily operation.
However, our windows 7 osd task sequence has an issue after a “reboot computer” step, on a single specific computer.
The OSD TS looks as follows (cannot put screenshot due to account verification issue
    Setup Operating System
    - Setup Windows and Configuration Manager
    - Install Updates
    Standard Software
    - Install Default Apps
    - Install Adobe
    - Restart Computer
    - Install MS Apps
    - Install Antivirus
"Install default apps” and “install adobe” works correctly. All app packages are downloaded and installed without errors.
Then “restart computer” runs, also ok.
Then “install ms apps” tries to install Office 2010 and lync. This and the following install steps all fail with this message in the task sequence report:
“DownloadFailed – execution status received: 24 (Application download failed)”
I opened a debug command line on the affected client with F8 and captured the logfiles.
it seems the Client believes it is "on the Internet" after the reboot, and tries to contact our Internet-facing DP.

The strange thing is, this currently only happens on a single dell precision T7610, on a different computer (for example, dell latitude e6330, or a vmware test system) this does not happen, and after reboot,

  • Running Task Sequence from Software Center failed after rebooting to WinPE (0x8022001B)

    Hi all
I have created a task sequence to refresh client OS to windows 8.1 x64. I ran this task sequence in software center on a windows 7 client, everything went well without any fails.
But when I ran the same ts again after it refreshed to Windows 8.1, it failed immediately after rebooted to WinPE. It shows a warning with error code 0x8022001B.
My test environment: SCCM 2012 R2 (Windows Server 2012 R2). Client Device: Lenovo L430
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Then it's using a different boot image that doesn't have the NIC driver. The OS that the TS starts out in has no impact on the WinPE environment. Either the driver is there and properly loads or it doesn't -- there is not and cannot be any connection to
the OS the system was booted into prior to PE booting.
Thus, the only possibility here is that the boot image does *not* have the NIC driver in it. You need to verify which boot image I being used in both cases.

  • "Installation will continue after reboot"... then nothing... help?

I have a 1st generation intel imac, 20 inch, and have tried three times to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6 (SL). I have unplugged all accessories, and every time i go to upgrade, at about 1/5th of the way, i get a message saying that the installation will continue after the computer has restarted. It restarts... and then nothing. I have not seen this posted before, so if it has been, I apologize. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm curious about what (if anything) the installer log file says about setting the DVD as the startup disk. Would you mind launching Console, going into the /private/var/log section & clicking on install.log if it is there? Look for a line in the log near the beginning of the lines that start with the date & time of the install attempt that contains the text "Setting Startup Disk" (without quotes). Anything after that that indicates an error? Is there a line (or two) with the text "Bless on Mac OS X Install DVD succeeded" a few lines below that?
Note that you can use the search box in Console to look for these text strings.

  • Snow leopard installation fails after reboot

I have a mac book pro 2007 non unibody. It has 10.5.8 installed and I would like to install snow leopard. My machine wont boot from the dvd - I get a no entry / warning symbol. However it can be read when I am booted into 10.5.8 and hence I clicked on install snow leopard and it goes well until the point where it reboots and then it wont continue and boots into 10.5.8 again.
Is this bad media? should I return the disk?
    Thanks
    Nick

I presume you're using the retail Snow Leopard DVD?
There have been a few cases of bad DVDs, but I wouldn't expect the disc to be read at all, let alone install. Worth a call to Applecare or Customer support and see if you can replace the disc.
Meanwhile, boot from your original Leopard grey disc and run DU to Repair Disk (not permissions), then try booting from the SL disc again.
As you've attempted to install from the DVD while booted in Leopard, also check your HD for a folder called something like "MacOS X Install Data". That will have been left there by the failed installation; the .pkgs in there would normally be installed to replace the corresponding Leopard files during the restart while the HD is unmounted.
If there's one there, trash it and empty the trash as it may inhibit further attempts at installation.

  • SSL-VPN Anyconnect fails after rebooting 2811

    Hello all,
I have setup an Anyconnect SSL-VPN in my 2811 and it works just great, but then after the reboot it fails.  I think it has something to do with the SSL Cert being ereased.  Here is my configuration, please let me know if you need anything else:

Here is the bug description that matches your explaination of the issue:
MF: HTTPS generates a new self-signed cert on reboot even if one exists
    Symptom:
With Secure HTTP server enabled, IOS device  generates a new self-signed certificate when it reloads even if a valid  self-signed certificate already exists.
    Conditions:
When there is no CA(Certificate Authority) provided certificate on the device
    Workaround:
    Use CA provided certificate.
The resolution is to upgrade it to version 15.2(1)T or higher.
Unfortunately you would need to have SmartNet contract to be able to download the software from CCO.

  • Satellite Pro C850 - WLAN keeps failing after Win 7 installation

    Hi,
    I own a C850-1GR (PSCBXE), which comes with Win8.
I've bought Win 7 32-bit Home Premium and reinstalled it from scratch.
Afterwards I've installed the drivers from toshiba support page in the following order:
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Display Driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    Realtek Audio Driver
    ATI HDMI Audio Driver
    SRS Premium Sound HD
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Realtek LAN Driver
    Realtek Wireless LAN Driver
    Intel Wireless Display
    Realtek Bluetooth Filter Driver Package
    Bluetooth Monitor
    Intel USB3.0 Driver
    Realtek Card Reader
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Sleep Utility
TOSHIBA Resolution+ Plug-in for Windows Media Player
    TOSHIBA Media Controller
    TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in
TOSHIBA Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
    PatchFiles PCIIDEREG-1.2
    PatchFiles
When the installation is done, WLAN fails after reboot, alternately.
    This means:
    *First boot: WLAN OK*
    *Second boot: WLAN fails*
*Third boot ( = first boot): WLAN OK*
*Fourth boot ( = second boot): WLAN Fails*
    *and so on.*
Failing means, the WLAN symbol is displayed for a few seconds, then the "no network" icon is displayed.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    >(Why on earth should a device report an error every second system boot?)
Yes, indeed this is very confusing and strange.
    Just one notice regarding:
    >Please note, that the intel driver is for "wireless display".
Intel wireless display works only in connection with Intel WLan card. If your notebook does not contain Wlan card from Intel manufacturers, the wireless display does not work
    >Furthermore, all these drivers are listed on the C850 driver page for Win7-32.
Yes, this is true but all these drivers appear because of different C850 with different hardware configuration.

    Hi godithisudha
Have you tried backing up phone data and reset *#7370# followed by 12345 (Nokia default unless changed by you) in case anything got corrupted?
It may be an idea to reformat memory card as well after saving data!
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Apache Failure After Reboot

The Oracle HTTP server(apache) was working fine after install, but failed after rebooting. The service is set to automatic and indicates it is started, but fails when attempting to connect from a client. I set the service to manual, rebooted and typed in apache -k start in the command line, which indicates apache is started, but still unable to connect from a client machine. I checked the httpd.conf file and everything seems ok. The error logs do not indicate anything. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have seen a similar case, if the server machine doesn't have a fixed IP, the client
will not get a response. You can try to use a local browser to see whether you can make a connection or not.

Please try to install the software with a new administrator account. A new local administrative account can rule out network policies, corrupt profiles, and incorrectly setup administrative accounts: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows -7

  • SoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot

NSoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot4 I recently moved my X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard to a different PCI slot to accommodate my new large PCIE graphics card.
Prior to moving the card, my?original SoundBlaster install went fine without any trouble. When I booted up after relocating the card,?it was not detected at all. So I uninstalled my SoundBlaster driver software and?rebooted the computer?thinking that was necessary to clear any hardware configuration settings from the old install. This made no difference. I then discovered my card was not seated properly and corrected it.
Next I installed the SoundBlaster driver software. The installation proceeded and finished with a request to restart the computer. Once I did, the computer detects my card and starts the hardware installation wizard asking if I want Windows to search online for driver software. It does not recognize the just installed SoundBlaster driver installation. I have a dual boot setup and this happens in both WinXP Pro and Vista 32 Home Premium.
    What's wrong here?

Forget it folks...couldn't wait for any suggestions so I just cleaned off my hard dri've and reinstalled everything. Works fine.

  • Hypervisor installation fails after three attempts to complete

My attempts to add the Hypervisor role to a Server 2008 R2 installation on a Dell PowerEdge 310 with a perc 6i/700 raid controller, ends after three reboots with the message, "Three attempts to complete the installation have failed. The installation will
not be attempted again. Please restart the server and try to install the roles, services or feature again." When I add the role again, I get the same error message after three reboots. The installer retracts the installation so there is no role to remove.
I succeeded in installing the dedicated hyper-V server on this exact machine and set up several virtual machines so I doubt there is a hardware incompatibility with the hypervisor role. I succeeded in adding the Hyper-V role on another server (Dell T110)
from the same download of the installation files so I doubt the download is corrupt. The successful installation required 2 reboots. I don't see anything in the ServerManager log that indicates what the problem is.
During the reboot there are things that are supposed to happen, is there a way to find the list and track the activity before I have access to the operating system? I'm feeling there is something minor that's blocking the installation and if anyone has hints
to try I'd appreciate hearing them.
    Thanks

I disabled the two drivers and tried to install the Hyper-V roll again. I set Process Monitor to record the boot action during the re-boot during which the error messages appear. The installation failed and about the time the failure message appeared, There
are a lot of "Results" of "Buffer Too Small" or "Buffer Overflow" in reference to registry entries. Some registry entries refer to AMD64 which is not this computer, this has an Intel processor.
These are two sequential Process Monitor entries:

the failure is usually followed by an identical entry:

This is getting way more interesting than I want to see!
