Parent control in Maverick

When a Mac is public, and there are more than one Mac, how is it then possible to disable sides with **** and alike in an easy way.
As I see it now, I have to write the adress in Parent Control on evrey Mac. There must be an easier way to do that!!

might be easiest for you : is Parental Controls  set to automatically block such things?.

  • Parental Controls not working in Mavericks

Browsed related posts & didn’t find an answer.
“Kids” iMac is a 24” mid 2007. Was running Snow Leopard with Parental Controls enabled and working 100% for 3 years.
I never disturbed it because it was working fine for them.
Recently had to upgrade it to Mavericks to run TurboTax (my wife’s account is also on that machine).
Now the Parental Controls don’t work. Timer doesn’t work & all logs are blank. When asking for website permission, it never remembers after I allow it.
I am really frustrated with this.
My iMac is a 24” 2009, also running Mavericks. I made a dummy managed account, and it functions properly.
I’ve gone through the usual steps: turned Parental Controls off/on, restarted, repaired permissions, etc.
I did make a dummy account on the kids’ machine as well, and it worked one time, but just the one time.
Is there a fix, or an update or anything?
    Thanks in advance

I upgraded my Mac Pro from Mavericks to Yosemite and am having lots of problems with the Parental Controls settings with Yosemite.  By far, it was been the worst Parental Controls experience I have ever had.
I have had to turn off the time limit hours for my kids accounts, as that just aggravates the time limiting features on the OS.
The general time limits for say 1.5 hours a day seem to work, except when I try to extend the time.  When I extend the time, the OS seems to accept the modification, but as soon as the account is up and running, it logs them out immediately, and I have to do it again.
I also had to grant access to run all applications on the machine, as I couldn't just grant access to say the Arduino IDE, and have all of it's sub programs be granted automatically.  When I dump the settings in XML format, it seems like those sub programs are on the Ok list, but the OS keeps putting up alerts if I want to allow access or not, and it's just too painful to actually use anymore.
It would be nice to get some comments from Apple that they are aware of the issues people are running into, and they are trying to fix them.  Everyday there's some other quirk we're running into where I need to turn off some setting I used to have on for my kids.

  • After Mavericks upgrade, Parental Controls shows error

When trying to change settings in Parental Controls for a user, it shows "error occurred in Parental Controls pane".  The prevous OS was Lion and I was using Parental Controls to limit the hours for the user.

  • Mavericks: Parental Controls: Messages Logs not working

Hello - my parental controls appear to be working ok - except for monitoring Messages via the "view logs".  When I attempt to view messages it has no content even though she (my daughter) has been using the Messages app and it says something like 50 messages were exchanged.
She has an iPhone too so is it possible that the iPhone messages don't come into the Parental Controls logs of Messages?   - even though the Macbook DOES show her iPhone messages in the Messages app when she's logged into the computer ?
    Thanks in advance

A debt of gratitude goes out to this guy for solving the issue.

  • How do I allow parental controlled users to access third party apps on the admin account?

I just set my son up with a separate parental controlled user account and he can't seem to access some third party games that we installed for him under my admin account. He has saved progress on these games that we don't want to lose, so I don't want to reinstall them. I checked them off as allowed apps, but when he tries to play- the game icon shows up in the doc then changes to the updater icon and they won't run. I've searched for answers to this question, but can't seem to find any. Please help? My son and I would be very grateful!

  • Parental Controls -- Managed Account Time Limits

My son's MacBook Air is running Mavericks OS X 10.9.3; MacBookAir6,1; Intel Core i5
I set a 2 hour time limit per day and upon the 2 hours expiring, the system logs him off.  Then he shuts it and closes it for the night.
However, upon opening it the next day, the login screen prompts him for a time extension.  It's a whole new day and the 2 hours should start over, but they don't.
Worse, when I go to extend his time to let him log on, it sometimes gets caught in a loop of some sort where it will allow him back on per my administrator password to allow it.  It will allow him on for a split second, then immediately restrict him again saying he reached the maximum time limit and the administrator box shows up again.   The only way I've been able to fix this is by deleting his managed user profile, then adding it in again, once again defining all the parental control parameters, allowed websites, etc.  It's a pain.  I do try to have him log off at the end of his sessions thinking that it will help keeping things orderly, but if the computer cuts him off, I'm guessing that he was automatically logged out and I am not sure that's the case.  It cuts off his time (as it's supposed to) nonetheless.  Overall, it's as if the computer's date/time function doesn't factor in to the parental control settings.   How could Apple overlook such an obvious detail when planning for time limits?   Please, Apple, get these two parts of the OS working together.  So...
Honey-Do List for Mavericks OS X Gurus
Get the Date-Time settings to jive with Parental Controls; kill the loop that occurs when time extension requirement shows up first thing the next day
Create a countdown timer of a sort for managed accounts that keeps the user aware of how much of their logon time is used/still left
    Pretty please
    Thanks!

I have found the most common way is simply this: he knows your administrator password. To see if this is the case just change your password (don't leave a sticky note laying around with the written down password on it please) and see if he's still able to get his way.
Also, restrict access to applications like Terminal. Some Google searches could have shown him how to get stuff done through the command line.

  • OS X + Indesign CS3 + Parental Controls

I have a new imac with 10.5.8 and Indesign CS3. Indesign CS4 is also installed on this computer BUT the plugin from mediaspan we require to publish classified ads does not work with CS3. (others using different accounts use cs4.)
Creating a local managed login account from my admin account, I set this account using parental controls to not allow CS4 and allow CS3. I've added all the other applications I can identify and I mean ALL. The thing is, I don't want our classified advertising student employees running cs4, not getting the menus that they expect and wondering "why" when I can simply limit their choice via login.
I've also checked and set permissions to everyone for the indesign folder as READ&WRITE.
When I login to the managed account (MA) it works as expected. The next day, Indesign CS3 requires an admin PW to launch because of Parental Controls. Clicking "Always Allow" has little effect other than allowing the Indesign to run for that session. So, I go back to admin, check controls, ID3 is not selected as allowed. I authenticate, select it and allow ID3, click the lock before closing out. It works. shutdown. wait. power on, it works. The next day Indesign CS3 requires an admin PW to launch! No, there's not another "admin accessing" and screwing with me or the settings. All others are locked out.
I've been doing this for about 10 days and it's driving me nuts. The settings are not "sticking." What's up with that? Anyone with any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Can't log in to parental controls remotely.

I have parental controls set up on my MacBook Pro (running Mavericks) and have selected that it can be accessed remotely on my network. But when I go to parental controls on my Mac Mini (running Snow Leopard) I can not log in. I can see the Macbook Pro in the list and I can share the desktop remotely. But when I enter the name of my admin user for the Macbook Pro and password, it tells me that I have entered either a user or password incorrectly. I re-enter over and over and get the same message. I've tried the opposite direction as well. I have set up the Mac Mini to be accessed remotely and when I try to access it from the MacBook Pro I get the same message that I have entered the password/user incorrectly. But I am 100% certain that I am using my correct admin user and passwords.
I want to be able to access the parental controls of whichever computer my kids are on if they need extra time or if they have somehow mysteriously gone over the time limit I set and I need to see why it hasn't shut down yet.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I have almost the EXACT same situation, different machines.
Mac Mini 2013 cannot login to Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012
    Both on Mavericks 10.9.1
    What works
Mac mini can request screen share of the MacBook Pro and get
MacBook Pro can login to Mini and open files (i have the credentials saved and it works without prompting me)
MacBook can get a screen share session from the mini and control the miniu
    What doesn't work
Mac Mini cannot log into MacBook Pro .  In finder, right above the [connect as] button, it says "connection failed" . I have tried using Apple ID and as a registered user, neither works.  What's odd is that screen sharing works.
NOTE: like the OP, this all worked a couple weeks ago.  Machines are 2 feet apart on same hub.  Now I'm wondering if this started with 10.9.1 but I'm not sure.

  • Is there a solution to parental controls blocking https?

I have seen many posts regarding parental controls blocking any website that has SSL or https, but they are for older versions of OS X.  Is there a solution for the latest version of Mavericks?  I am amazed that the problem has persisted as long as this without Apple coming up with a better version of Parental Controls that can actually block inappropriate content not just ALL content.  Thanks for any help out there!

  • Missing Parental Controls Pane! Help!

For some time I've not been able to access some apps of mine because of Parental Controls blocking them, I know my Admin password and all but apparently the Parental Preferences are 'missing and not available', please help. I really need and love the apps that the Other Admin person some how managed to block from use and also some how managed to get rid of the Startup Disk, Sharing and Parental Control Preferences from the System Preferences, magically. The Icons and names of them are still there but it says 'Could not load [Name] Preferences Pane'. Please please help D:
By the way, I'm using a Macbook Air, updated to version 10.9, But I don't even know if that would make my macbook a mavericks, since it's the only Operating system that's 10.9 on Mac OS X.

iTunes needs an administrator account name and password to lock parental controls; i.e. you need to set Windows to require a password to login to your account before you can lock the controls.

  • Parental Controls Always Allow App issue with Blender app (3d modeling app)

    To whom this may concern,
I have a 3D modeling app called blender. I have installed it on my mac os running on lion (os 10.7) currently.
What I want to do. Always run this app on an account that has parental controls set up on my mac. The blender app would be a part of the allowed apps for the account.
Here's where I have my problem:
I have set it up to run on an account that has parental controls set up.
The problem I keep running in to is that every time I try to run blender I receive a popup window that says the app is not allowed and gives me three options: always allow, allow once, or okay (and close without trying to open).
Everytime I try to click always allow and enter my password, the process just repeats the next time I open the app. This make me believe that perhaps there is some sort of executable that the blender app uses before starting that the parental controls is stopping and even when I allow blender to start, there is something else not being allowed through. Any ideas on how I can work around this (obviously I want to keep parental controls on to prevent access to other apps)?
I'm not overly computer savvy but I can give some more info as requested if my question needs further explanation/documentation
I guess the best way to see the problem for yourself is to download blender and try using it on an account with parental controls, heh heh.
This is more of an annoyance having to enter the passcode everytime I want to use this wonderful app.
    Thanks for any help.

    Solution:
I updated to OSX Mavericks and the parental controls issue went away for Blender.
    Hurray!

  • Disable iMac camera with parental controls

I would like to upgrade my daughters eMacs to iMacs but have real issues with them having a camera in their bedrooms. Cameras that can be exploited by them or outside user.
I am a savy Mac user since '87, I don't have Lion yet and want to get my girls basic iMacs this Christmas.
I don't see the camera in Parental Controls now, if not in Lion, how does one do this?

    Hey there Heilmanmatt,
It sounds like the account that is not managed by Parental Controls is very slow when loading webpages but the Admin account is nice and speedy. I would start by loading up the kids' account and checking for any 3rd party plugins that may be installed and interfering with the application. This article will help you do that:
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Then if that is not the case, or that is not the issue I would next reset Safari on that account:
    Safari 7 (Mavericks): Reset Safari
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Website listed in the "never allowed" section of web browsing in parental controls still comes up!

I have listed YouTube.com on my list of websites to never allow for my daughter's user account on my MacBook Pro, but it still allows it!  I am updating to mavericks OS right now - hoping it's a bug that will be fixed.
Please help if you know what might work.  I bought a Mac because of the parental controls, which are apparently useless!

You might think that if you change "Website Restrictions" under the "Content" tab > to "Allow unrestricted access to websites" that it would bypass the proxy server > entirely. Unfortunately it does not.
Why would you think that? There's not a single commercial cache engine or proxy I'm aware of that works that way. If a site isn't restricted the proxy server simply passes the traffic instead of restricting it. It doesn't change the routing or proxy on the guest machine.

  • Parental controls running but not enabled.

I've been having issues with my late 2008 MacPro running Mavericks 10.9.5.  It has been freezing and unable to wake from sleep.
I checked the log and it seems to be the parental controls.  I see "parentalcontrolsd" and "StartObservingFSEvents" listed at say 4:00AM and then nothing util 8:00AM when I had to force reboot the mac.
Now I do NOT have Parental Controls turned on and there are no accounts assigned to PC.
How do I either permanently delete or disable Parental Controls?
    Thanks in advance.

In System Preferences -> Users & Groups is there a Guest account with managed preferences perhaps? (You may have to click on the lock bottom left to check the settings.)
