Parent control question

On iMac, when enable parent control with selected web sites, and when using safari to open selected web site, parent control window continue to pop up asking for accessing  additional web site such as google-analytics.com, doubleclick.com, etc, i need either select the web site(need admin privilege) or click OK whcih basically ignore the pop up window. This is very annoying. How can I keep this parent control window from popping up ? I want to ignore all the question silently.

  • EA6500 Parental Control or Access Restrictions question

I have been looking into this router, I woujld like to know if I can enable Parental controls or access restrictions to block a MAC or IP address; from 03:00 AM - 06:00 AM ?
Instead of Midnight to 6:00 am.
My E4200 works just fine, Just would like to know if the EA6500 Can do that ?
    Thanks
    Chris
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, you can block a device on the network from accessing the internet from 3 AM to 6 AM.
Screen snippet I just took from my EA6500:
As for blocking it by IP address or MAC Address directly, no you can't, you have to select it from the device list, but from what I've seen, you have to do that on the E4200 as well, so that's nothing different.
There have been people expierencing issues with their device lists on the EA6500, but I've rarely had any since a few fimeware updates ago, and usually refreshing the page or clicking the in-page refresh button, fixes those when they do happen to occur. (In my case.)
And in response the the second post, although it's only apart of the wireless and unrelated to parental controls, the EA6500 does have MAC Filtering:

  • ITunes can't access shared library when Vista parental controls are on

I started a thread back on March 1 2008, but it got archived before it could be answered, see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1420673&tstart=0
I'm using 64 bit Vista with iTunes version of 8.0.2.20, but I don't believe this issue has anything to do with the 64 bit versus 32 bit iTunes versions.
    The exact message is:
"The shared library "libraryname" is not responding. (-39)
Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
But if I turn off Parental Controls, the shared library is accessible, it all works fine. This has nothing to do with the iTunes store (and potential web site blocking), I just want to allow shared library access while leaving parental controls on.
    Any ideas?

This question has been around for almost two years now with no answer...very frustrating and disappointing that no one from Apple can step in and assist. I have set up the port number on my firewalls, both Windows and McAfee, as per the iTunes message and it still does not work...so I am now at a loss.
Turn off parental conrols and it all works perfectly...turn it on and library is visible but not accessible...PLEASE can someone help with this!!!
    Thanks.

  • Why can't I use some form of parental control like IE to make it safe for my Kids?

I am just about to remove Firefox from my pc because I cant figure out how to protect my kids from the crap that is on the web!! I don't want them accidentally getting to an adult site.

Also, for some (somewhat limited) parental controls in Windows XP, see: http://www.ehow.com/how_5928183_set-parental-controls-windows-xp.html
Generally, the products mentioned in cor-el's post are more comprehensive than those provided from within Windows XP.

  • Windows Vista Parental Controls Preventing Connection to iTunes Store?

I really have two questions, one of which I think I have resolved but would like to find a more elegant way of handling. Let's tackle that first, after I provide some background.
I have been "managing" the contents of my son's iPod using my computer. Now that he has his own computer it should be up to him. I have two users established on his computer, with me as administrator. I have set up parental controls and am specifiying the websites he can access. I used an external hard drive to copy all his music files to his computer, putting them in a folder under his user name.
When he tries to play music copied from CD's or purchased from iTunes using my computer, a message pops up that says "The song <song name> could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Absent a way to locate all such songs simultaneously, I click on the yes button and scroll through the list of songs until I find the one desired. Is there a better way, or are he and I going to have do repeat this hundreds of times? I think this needs to be resolved before he tries to sync his iPod with his computer. Correct?
The second problem crops up when he tries to purchase songs from iTunes. The error message reads "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured (-9808). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." Apple.com is one of the sites he is allowed to visit, and there is no mention of parental controls or filtering (normally when that happens I am allowed to override with my password). Also, the computer has been authorized. Has anyone experienced anything like this or know what the workaround is? Does it have to do with parental controls, or is it something else?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I have a few things to offer that may make things a bit easier. You mention the library or music content is on an External HD and you copied it to his PC. Is the Hard Data aka the songs themselves still on the computer in a folder?
If so. Delete the songs in iTunes, Select 1 song, then Edit Select All, and Delete from Library. Now go to iTunes - Edit - Preferences- Advanced Tab
-Put a check mark in Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized, Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to the library. Thus whenever songs get added into iTunes a hard copy will be copied into the iTunes music directory stored in
Music - iTunes - iTunes Music.
-Now exit out of Preferences, Go to File - Add Folder to Library - (assuming all the songs from the HD are in 1 massive folder) and browse for this folder. iTunes will scan it, add it into iTunes, and then copy a hard digital copy into the Music-iTunes-iTunes Music folder. You can go confirm the files are there by visiting the folder. The file size of the iTunes folder should grow as you add more and more music.
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How do I allow parental controlled users to access third party apps on the admin account?

I just set my son up with a separate parental controlled user account and he can't seem to access some third party games that we installed for him under my admin account. He has saved progress on these games that we don't want to lose, so I don't want to reinstall them. I checked them off as allowed apps, but when he tries to play- the game icon shows up in the doc then changes to the updater icon and they won't run. I've searched for answers to this question, but can't seem to find any. Please help? My son and I would be very grateful!

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps on this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps on this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • With parental controls on, (OS X 10.5.8) Firefox will not submit a password correctly

in a lab of 10.5.8 computers, generic local login student account when using firefox to access carnegie online learning site will not submit the school code correctly. When typed in (actually no matter what you type in, correct code or not), the last two characters are changed to Pr. As in coupeville becomes coupevilPr and it is rejected. Works OK with admin or managed privileges. Works OK with OS 10.4 parental controls. Firefox 3.6.13.

I've found a fix - it's all explained in this article.
If the page gets deleted: the fix is to add 127.0.0.1 port 10010 as HTTP & SSL proxy (SOCKS5) in FF. This uses the Parental Controls proxy server (which provides filtering).

Thank you so much for the quick response to my question.  I tested your directions and it works!!  Thank you.  I would never have figured that out.  I knew I had to go into System Preferences but would not have guessed that I needed to have Automatic Login set to off.

  • BT Parental Controls window won't go away

    Hi there,
I use BT Internet and am on wifi. Today I switched on my PC and every time I open a webpage in Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, I get a little window from BTInternet asking me if I want to activate Parental Controls. I click "No" and it takes me to a page, saying "You have chosen not to enable parental controls." All fine and dandy. So I click "Close" on that page and it tries to do something, then just times out. I usually use Chrome but I tried it on Internet Explorer as well, where it closes instead of timing out.
    HOWEVER
It doesn't seem to be registering that I DON'T want to use parental controls because the message appears on every online shopping website I try to visit, and because it's there, I can't browse any of the pages.
The other PC connected to the router via ethernet is not having this problem.
I've tried clearing cache and cookies and using a different browser (Internet Explorer) but this doesn't work.
    Can anyone please help me?
    This is what I'm seeing.

  • How can i allow java in parental control

    Hello,
I want to allow my son to play to minecraft (wich works with java) . I'm adding minecraft to the list of application that he can access (using parental controls)
But when I launch minecraft it ask me to authorize the usage of the application. When I click on always authorize (Toujours autoriser in french) , it keeps asking me the same question. I'm entering the correct admin username and passowrd.
Whenever I click Authorize once, it ask me the admin username and password and then launches minecraft. so it works.
    Thank you
    Best regards
    Jean

    Thanks Liam.
I imagined that might be the case, but had to ask in case someone found a way.
I guess I could manually set up subdomains and point them to the individual web-app items. Lot of manual work though. The main purpose would be to give customers a nice tidy URL for them to share. 'myName.thatSite.com' is much better for sharing than 'thatSite.com/profile/myName', even if it ends up showing as 'myName.thatSite.com/profile/myName'
I thought having subdomain wildcards enabled might help -  javascript might be able to redirect to the relevant item - but apparently this is not posible with current BC systems.
Do you know if BC are planning to add any API functionality to the site domain management features
Or if they'd perhaps add subdomain wild-cards?
Seems unlikely, but I wonder if this might make something possible.
    Cheers,
    Adrian

  • Can't add a program to an account in parental controls

I'm a teacher who recently received a number of IMacs. I've set up a parental controlled account using only simple finder. I've also only allowed certain programs to be accessed via their account. My problem is that I've added the program Digicel Flipbook and want them to be able to use it. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up as one of the programs to be allowed. I've logged in and out, trying to give the students read write permissions, but it still doesn't show up. I don't want them to have full access to finder, especially with some of the built in programs that they can mess around with. Also, when we installed the program, we just dragged it into the apps folder, but it wasn't installed as a .dmg extension. It just started out as a .zip file. I don't know if this is part of the problem, but might as well throw in all the info I can. Thanks.

    Hi darkus,
The fact that it's a .zip file doesn't matter—OS X can handle those just fine.
I do have a question, though. I just downloaded, installed, and played around with Flipbook, and I note that if you haven't unzipped the file, Parental Controls won't allow you to add it. Have you already unzipped it?
If you have (and it still doesn't show up), you can drag the program's icon (not the whole folder) within the Parental Controls "check the applications to allow" window. Once you drag it there, just type "flip" into the small Spotlight bar right above the window, and it should be in there.
    Hope that helps!

  • HT201304 How do I disable parental controls?

I forgot the parental controls pass code, and I need to unlock it. I do not have a computer with me (I use a computer at work only). Is there a way to disable it without a computer? I'm asking this question on his ipad. Thank you for your help!

Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Safari disappears when I set parental controls

I have set up accounts for my children with parental controls but the accounts do not have access to Safari. I have checked the Safari box in preferences but a big question mark appears where the icon should be. Can you help?

  • Is there a FREE Parental Controls software for Mac?

Does anyone know of a free parental controls software for Mac? I have OS 10.3.9 and don't want to (or need to) get 10.4 +. Thus I can't run safari 2.0 or later and I want to have parental controls. I suspect it's out there but I can't seem to find it. TIA all.

For Tiger, Workgroup Manager (part of the free Tiger Server Admin Tools) offers greatly expanded account management options than what the built-in Parental Controls offers. OS X Server is not required; it works great on the regular OS X.
There was a version for Panther too, but I never tried it, so I don't know if it will do what you need. But the screen shot on the download page suggests that it might. You might want to download it yourself and try it out:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxserver1034admintools.html
You might also try asking your question in the "OS X 10.3 and earlier" forum here in the discussions. This forum is for Tiger only.
