Parent keyword not applied when child (nested?) is selected

All,
I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else. I did a search and didn't come up with a solution.
In Bridge I set up a heirarchy of keywords.
United States
    |___ Colorado
        |___ Denver
In this scenario when I selected Denver, Colorado and United States were also selected. When I perform the same operation in LR3 only "Denver" is selected. I should point out that the selected image has no keywords applied before I select "Denver." Where is the preference located that will allow me to change this behavior? I want Colorado and United States to be applied when I choose United States.
Thank you

When you apply a subkeyword to an image, the containing keywords are implicitly applied to the image within the catalog. In your example, when you apply Denver to an image, Colorado and United States are also implicitly applied.
When you search for a keyword using the Library Filter Bar, Smart Collections, or the right-panel Keyword List, LR will always include images with the keyword's contained subkeywords.  For example, if you search for United States, LR will also include Colorado and Denver.
There are a couple of ways to control how LR writes the keywords into files' metadata:
Right-click a keyword in the Keyword List pane, select Edit, and check/uncheck the option Export Containing Keywords.  When checked, LR will write the containing keywords of the keyword into files' metadata when you do Save Metadata To File or when you export the image.  In your example, if an image is tagged with Denver, then when the option is checked, Colorado and United States will also be written to the image's metadata.
When LR writes keywords to a cataloged file's metadata, it stores the plain keywords in the standard metadata fields (XMP:Subject, IPTC:Keywords).  It also stores fully qualified hierarchical keywords in the field XMP:HiearchicalSubject (e.g. "United States|Colorado|Denver").  You can control whether that metadata field is added to images exported by File > Export using the export option Metadata > Write Keywords As Lightroom Heirarchy.

  • Why are most of my keywords not included when I export images?

Why are most of my keywords not included when I export images?
Since starting with Lightroom 1, I've entered keywords into either of the two fields between "keyword tags" and "keyword suggestions" in the keywording panel.  I was unaware that some keywords are more equal than others, or that Lightroom offered (or has added?) hierarchy support.
I recently stumbled into the news (to me) that Lightroom tags can be organized into a hierarchy, so I exported my keywords to a text file to examine.  I hadn't unwittingly created any hierarchies, but an astounding fraction of the keywords were within square brackets.  Sure enough, if I export an image, keywords within square brackets are omitted from the output (jpeg) file.  How nice.  Since I began with Lightroom 1, I've added nearly 1600 keywords.. Too bad most of them are coded wrong... so as not to accompany output that I create.
    1.     What was I supposed to do, as a photographer beginning to use Lightroom, to enter keywords simply but reliably:  what I type is what I get? I'd expected that's what the "just type here" interface would provide.
I especially dislike obtaining erratic results:  most keywords are in square brackets, but a few are not.  Of course, when I use a simplified interface, I should expect not to have access to some of the options or features.  However, I shouldn't inadvertently trigger undocumented behavior.
    2.     Does the Adobe reference help system say how to enter keywords simply and reliably, in its documentation of the keywording panel? I don't find my answer under the Keywords topic, within Home / Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 / Organizing photos in the catalog.
(I NOW realize that the instructions for the "Create/Edit keyword tags" dialog mention exporting. However, that's not the method I was using.)
    Dick Rawson

I'm afraid that I distracted you with my background mention of hierarcharial keywords; I'm not asking about them.
I've entered keywords for several years of using Lightroom.  Suddenly, this week, I find that most (yet not all) of them have the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata."  I never intended to ask for that; I thought all keywords will stay with the file and its offspring, and that's what I wanted.
    So I'm asking:
    1.     What did I do "wrong" to induce Lightroom to give the keywords that attribute? I never intended to ask it to.
    2.     Where does Adobe document how to enter keywords reliably so that they stay with the file on output?  I can't find that Adobe does.
    > Can you be more clear about keywords in square brackets? I know when you export the keywords as a list you can get a normalized data file that uses punctuation and tabs as delimiters...
I did export the keywords into such a list:  most keywords in the plain-text list have square brackets surrounding them, indicating keywords that will be omitted from metadata of any image that Lightroom exports.
My concern is not that the brackets are there.  They encode the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata," and recognizing that attribute concerns me.
    > ...but I've never seen keywords in image files or in the interface rendered so.
    I haven't, either.

  • Sysprep unattend file not applying when image is captured with wds (no errors)

So I've been around the block a bit using sysprep and wds.  Recently I've created a reference image with a virtualbox environment using windows 7 x64. I was succesfully able to create a reference image, sysprep it and capture it to the wds server. My

The machine succesfully syspreps and shuts down. I restart the computer pxe boot and capture the image succesfully.
    Now here comes my problem...
Upon deploying the above driver specific image.. my sysprep file is not applied.  Nothing from the OOBE wizard answers to the pc logo , or first logon commands are applied ... nothing.. I have gotten no errors during this whole process.  I have
started to try to read the logs within the panther folder but havent gotten far.
What is weird to me is that I have tried recreating this image... deploy the reference image... add drivers ... sysprep ...shutdown.  And if I boot normally (without capturing the image) the computer shows all of the sysprep changes..  Only when
i capture the image does it not apply the changes....
    I'm stumped...
    Any ides?

Confirm this scenario: You installed Windows, then ran sysprep and used the /unattend switch. Then you captured the image.
In this scenario there are 2 deployment methods.
    1. If you deploy the image with DISM, the answer file generated by sysprep is detected on first boot and settings are applied. It is the same function as if you ran sysprep and chose to restart.
    2. If you deploy the image using Setup.exe, it does not use the answer file specified by sysprep prior to capturing. I have not looked into *why* this happens, but I suspect that after the image is applied, it replaces the unattend.xml with the generic one.
If you are using Setup.exe, you need to use its /unattend switch and point to the answer file location. This location cannot be inside of the image. If you are not using setup.exe in a manual method (using WDS) you will need to apply the answer file to the
install image in the WDS snap-in.

  • Auto exposure not applying when using the auto enhance function

I am on Aperture 3.6 and Yosemite. I use a Canon 6D and shoot in RAW. When I am doing the batch auto enhance to my shots, I find that even though in the adjustments preset Auto Enhance includes auto exposure, often it is actually not applied. Are there anyways to fix this? The images actually are a bit underexposed and I now need to go through picture by picture to click on the auto button under adjustment. Thanks.

Have you set your camera to use Canon's Highlight Tone Priority? Then most of the Raw files will be underexposed, because Aperture is developing the RAW file "as is" and not applying the in-camera settings. See Keith Barkley's user tip.

  • AppV 5.0 SP2 HF4 - Registry not applying when set via DynamicConfig.xml

I have an AppV 5.0 package of VMWare and have tweaked the dynamicconfig.xml file to add a registry key.  I am applying the package with the AppV 5.0 management and publishing server globally.  This is what my dynamicconfig.xml looks like, pulled
from the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft... folder (my apologies if it doesn't format well, it does validate):

    </DeploymentConfiguration>
I left in the example Foo registry just to see if it works.  When I launch vSphere I do not get all the drop downs in the "RecentConnection" keys, opening the AppV 5 package in cmd.exe with the /appvve switch and opening regedit shows the
registry keys with the sequenced application, but not the registry keys in the dynamic config.xml.  I should also note I'm trying to replace existing keys that already have the "RecentConnection" that are in the manifest.xml.  So I'm not
sure if "Include" is "Replace" and errors out if those keys already exist...?  I don't see any errors in the event log.  I'm not sure of any other way that the event log reports if dynamicconfig.xml is being applied.

  • Blur effect not applied when exported to swf ?????

    hello,
I have added a fast blur effect to a portion of my video project in AE, it looks great in AE.
but when I export it out to a swf, the blur effect is not applied, why??????
    thank you

See "Render and export a composition as a SWF file" for a description of what is supported and what isn't for SWF export.
You can choose to either ignore or rasterize unsupported items. It seems that you probably have the Ignore setting selected.

  • Adjustment layers effects not applying when flattening image or merging layers CS6

So about a week ago I noticed something changed with my adjustment layers. In an image I would make a selection and start using adjustment layers to edit that selection, and then once I was finished, I would merge the adjustment layers together so that I could erase outside areas where the effect was not intended. However, whenever I merged the layers, the effects would go away and the thumbnail preview by the layer title would become blank (gray and white transparent) as if there was not anything on the layer. I messed around and I reset Photoshop, and then I thought the layers were fixed. They were somewhat fixed, except I've started having trouble again. Now I'm having difficulty editing this one image i'm on. It's a portrait with a photoshop-created red mask going around eyes, and I used the dissolve layer effect on the original mask creation which was black at first. Then I selected that selection and made more layers editing the hue, saturation, brightness/contrast, and exposure.
I tried to save the image as a jpeg, and the effects were messed up. The hue and all other adjustment layers seemingly applied, except the dissolve effect does not show up at all. So I tried to fix it manually. I flattened the image first with intention to then save it as a jpeg, but as soon as I flattened the image, again the dissolve effect was not applied. Then I tried to merge the layers, and yet again, the dissolve effect was not showing up. It shows up fine in PSD form, something's wrong with the conversion process. Please don't be mean to me. I'm not great at photoshop, I'm not saying that I am or claiming to be a pro or anything I just want help from people who actually get it. I have CS6 and use a Macbook Pro.

I stopped even trying to read this append. For is seems very complex and overwhelmed my little mind. Please consider including some screen captures showing your Photoshop window with your document that your writing about open and the layer palette shows the structure of the document. For me examples and screen capture of the steps involves involved would be very helpful.

  • Aperture 3 edits are not applied when opening in Photoshop CS5.

I have Photoshop CS5 selected as external editor.  I apply some edits in Aperture 3 and then open in Photoshop cs5 to do heavier work, but aperture 3 edits are not applied.  I get a new image from Master.  How do I get the edited image to open in Photoshop CS5?  I would rather do the cropping and simpler edits in Aperture, then if needed open the edited file into CS5.  I can open the file, but it is missing all of my edits.  I have basically a raw master file that I have to start with, but don't have the advantage of the raw file.

I'm right clicking on the photo and selecting -> edit with Edit with Adobe Photoshop CS5.  The photo opens in Adobe, but it doesn't have any of the Aperture edits applied to it.  I would have to start from scratch doing these in photoshop.  I want to be able to do the Raw adjustments in Aperture and then open into Photoshop.
To test I applied a crop in Aperture and then opened that file in Photoshop.  The full size image opens in Photoshop.

  • LVOOP Parent private data returned when child instance created from constant

I have created one Parent class, and one Child class.  For each of these classes, I have created a member VI that is a constructor, whose purpose will be to initialize some constants for each class, and return the class instance.  I also have a member accessor VI for each class that returns the private data of the class (in this case a single string for each class).
The Parent class's private data "String" is set to"Parent text" as the default value.
The Child class's private data "Child String" is set to"Child Text" as the default value.
The Parent class constructor works just fine.  For testing purposes, I return the text from directly unbundling in the constructor VI, and as returned from the accessor VI. The Parent constructor starts from a class constant.
However, in the case of the Child class constructor, if I start from a class constant, directly unbundling the private data (using an Unbundle By Name function, and choosing "Child String" as the element), I get the Parent's private data!
If I use the Child class's member VI to retrieve the text, I get the Child's private data.
If I change the constructor to start from a class Control instead of a class Constant, I get the Child's private data.
This only occurs  before the Child class has existed as a
Control/Indicator. i.e. If I unbundle the private data after the class
is returned by any member VI, I get the correct Child private data.  So obviously something changes once the class "data" has been a control at some point.
I am using Labview 8.6.1, Windows XP
I have attached a small project that illustrates the problem I am encountering, without actually doing any initialization, just reading.
Is this the intended behaviour?  Why does it matter if I start with a class constant instead of a class control?  When you drag from the Project window to the Block diagram, you always get a constant.

Although I was able to replicate your issue in LabVIEW 8.6.1, it appeared to run correctly in 2009.  I could not find a CAR ID but at this point can only assume that the behavior was not intended but is fixed in 2009.

i have class a and method x in class a which calls class b. its fine till there. but before my class b's action is completed, in which i have to choose a file and display those files in jtable, the remaining lines in method x getting executed. what do you think the problem is.
i.e. my parent's class method is completely getting executed before the child class (frame) returns the result and is closed. where do u think the problem.
    please help.

i dont know if i made myself clear. i am giving my code below.
    class A{
    btnClick{
    pnlProductsImport _pnlProductsImport=new  pnlProductsImport(dataSource,config,parent,importFile);
    _pnlProductsImport.setVisible(true);
    _pnlProductsImport.show();
    getProducts()
here its showing my pnlProductsImport class screen and before I close that screen, getProducts method is getting executed. as I know, the control passes from class A to pnlProductsImport at show() and when its closed, it will execute remaning lines i.e getProducts, but in this case, it shows the subclass, and immedietly, executing remaining lines. but its also fact that my subclass (pnlProductsImport) implements Runnable, but thread starts only after some time when I click on one of the buttons on the screen.... and i want that getProducts() method to execute only when subclass closes completely.
    thanks

  • Timewarp effect not applied when rendered from Media encoder CC

The timewarp effect (enabled using console veiw in PPRO CC) does nothing to footage when rendered through Media encoder...
It does however render when not sending it to the queue, and rendering straight from PPRO.

    Fair enough,
Just hoping to raise attention of this...as I believe this should be a normal supported feature of PP as it once was back in CS3 days.....
Normal frame blending interpolation doesn't really cut it, and round tripping to AE is overkill for something already built into PPro....
But at least it's in there in some form

  • Changes are not applied when exporting to plugin

When I make changes to an image in Aperture (e.g. white balance) and then go to an editing plugin (Viveza, Dodge and burn,…) Aperture hands over the unedited file to the plugin. Can I change this beahiour or force Aperture to apply edits before editing with a plugin?

    David,
This isn't normal behaviour at all. Are you sure you have the edited file selected when you choose to export to a plugin? For instance if Aperture is set to create a new version with each edit it'll create a stack containing all versions - if you then chose the stack when you export you could be selecting a pick that doesn't reflect your latest edits...
This is all I can think of at the moment. I've never seen that bug before. Aperture bakes in all of a selection's edits to either a tiff or psd file when choosing any plugin. You can't select to do otherwise.
There are exceptions with external applications when doing multiple passes, but that's an entirely different problem.

  • Audio mixes not correct when inserting nested sequence.

Ah, yet another anomalous behavior issue...
I commonly edit packages for a program I regularly work on, then drop the nested sequences into the show timeline...it's easier that way, and the EP likes it that way. However, I occasionally come across an issue where the nested audio sequence doesn't "remember" the mix levels of the component parts. For instance, I just made an audio adjustment to the open of the show, and dropped the nested open into the show timeline...where it promptly "forgot" the music rampdown I'd just done.
The workaround? I slipped the audio track, blowing out the render files...then dragged the clip back into sync, re-rendered again...and then the mix stuck.
Probably I should do this sort of stuff in Soundtrack, eh?

FCS has lots of quirks (I hesitate to call them bugs because they are not always repeatable). Still, people need to keep in mind that the FCS suite is built upon an ancient (in computer years) core technology (and code). While everyone is holding their breath for 64bit thinking it will be faster, I'm cringing because I know what a massive bit of code this suite represents and the thought that a complete rewrite will get everything correct is simply unimaginable.
[/rant on] My simple hope is they do not keep chasing after these consumer formats (including BR) and simply focus on making the core of the program function exactly as it should - especially media management. The whole 32bit/64bit nonsense is a distraction. Stuff that is stable and works the same every time - even if a little quirky- is MUCH more valuable in the professional environment than dumping in loads of new stuff. [/rant off]
    Have fun.

  • Knockout Group option not applied when saving to pdf

    Hi!
Been working on a logo that features a realistic looking brushstroke - meaning vectorising the project features hundreds of differently shaded layers. The logo features a flower shape layer that needs to be cut out of the logo.
Question shortly: Is there a way to cut out the outline of the shape on a group that features 'say hundred' layers in different colours (about 30)
I've tried (without a desired result):
    - Pathfinder - Minus Front (with click) not working with this group
    - Pathfinder - Minus Front (alt/option + click) making it a compound path - not working because it turns the whole group into one colour
    - Knockout Group option under opacity settings, which initially worked - but saving the file to pdf, the knockout group option is not working. It's either disabled or the flower shapes as knockout group are white.
    Im using Adobe Illustrator CC
    Thanks!

The "mask" object is not in the "Opacity Mask" thumbnail area in your first image. Make sure you layer the flower above the object(s), select all and choose "Make Opacity Mask" from the Transparency Panel flyout menu. This will make the top-most object a mask. You'll need to then turn OFF "clip" so the portion outside the mask is visible.
    Should look something like this:
You can have more than one item on the Opacity mask and of different values. Color is ignored.
Please note: When first creating an Opacity mask AI will only recognize the top object (or compound shape). Thereafter, you can edit and create objects on the mask at will, just like working in normal mode. By default only the mask's "effect" is visible. To view ONLY the mask OPTION+Click the Mask thumbnail.

  • Tags/keywords not recognized when importing photos

I am using Lightroom 1.3.1 and I am trying to set up a new catalog of all of my personal photos. I previously had used Adobe Photoshop Elements 5, then more recently Windows Live Photo Gallery to do all of my organization and tagging. Before making the jump to Lightroom, I wanted to get my photos organized before doing the initial import. So I organized them into folders by year/month/day. Then I imported them all in place into Lightroom. However, of about 4000 tagged photos Lightroom only imported the tags for about 1000 of them. If I take a photo with no keywords in Lightroom and look at it in Live Photo Gallery, with Microsoft's Photo Info tool, or using Photoshop's file info, I can see that tags. However, Lightroom doesn't show any keywords. With Photoshop file info I can see the keywords listed in the following places in the metadata: xap:Keywords, photoshop:keywords, MicrosoftPhoto:LastKeywordXMP, MicrosoftPhoto:LastKeywordIPTC, dc:subject. Looking at the metadata I can't see any difference between the photos that had their keywords imported and those that didn't. Where does Lightroom look for keywords? More importantly how can I get Lightroom to recognize the the keywords from all of these photos that I have already tagged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information. I am running Windows Vista. When I look at the image properties in explorer, I can see that 'tags' field and the tags are present as expected. Any metadata that was used Elements has been written to the files. I can see the tags in the files' metadata. I have already added the "Treat '/' as a keyword separator" in Lightroom. That is working fine for the keywords that it recognizes.
Previously my files just had the default names from the camera and they were put in folder according to the date I imported them from the camera. Before importing them into Lightroom I reorganized my photos by the date the pictures were taken. I used Downloader Pro to organize them in folder by Year->Month->yyyy-mm-dd using the capture date. The file names were also renamed by date and time like: 'yyyy-mm-dd hh'mm'ss.jpg'. All of my photos have the exact same folder/name structure. I can look into a single folder and some of images have their tags imported and others don't. The pictures were taken at the same time, with the same camera, and moved and processed together. In Vista's explorer the tags show up on on all of the photos, but in Lightroom only some of them will have tags. It is bazaar, in some folders all of the images get their tags imported, but in most folders, none of them get imported. Then in a few folders there will just be one or two of the images that have their tags imported.
Any other ideas about the problem, or ideas on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.
