Parental Control - Permission E-Mail bounced - Missing Message

Hello,
For an unknown reason an "Always Allow" message bounced for a particular message. What has happened to that original message how do I get it to show up, and/or how do I force a resending of the "Always Allow" message.
Thanks

  • Parental control permission

I'm setting up parental controls for my kids in 10.4. I have given permission for some games that start from the CD, and don't need to be installed to run. When I give permission then log right into their user, it works. But if I log out and log back in, it forgets those CDs and whatever was in the "other" category. It doesn't forget the permissions for games that are installed though.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Jeff

Highlight the game application. Then select get info. by hitting Command-I. Under the Ownership & Permissions section, select detail. At the very bottom will have listed what your sons permission is for the application, listed under the sectio "Other". This has to be at least read, for him to have access to the application. This part is not set by parental controls, but how/when/where the application was installed.
If there is a lock at the top, unlock by clicking it, input your administator password if requested, make the necessary adjustment, and click the lock to prevent further changes.

  • HELP... Unable to alter any parental control settings- I get an error message immediately and the lock goes back on.

Is there a fix to the parental control problem – in Mountain lion? I've been unable to change any control settings for months...should have kept the family PC...this IMAC is garbage at this point.

Although one would think that re-creating the index could fix this problem, that’s not the case. What sometimes works is restarting the computer or doing some cache-cleaning — don’t ask me why, and I don’t know how to fix the problem when that doesn’t work either.
You may also want to take a look at the following thread, where another user reported the problem in his/her case was related to a difference in how the email address was written:

  • Mail Rebuild=Missing Messages

Yes I know, outdated tech.  But I use a Powermac G4 for my email.  I am running OS X 10.3.9.
Recently, all my emails in one box, that had 6000 emails in it approximately, were showing, can not display, must connect to server to read errors, and wouldn't let me transfer them to other mailboxes. However, I have my email set to pull down all the email off the server when it retrieves it so I know that it's on the computer, and no longer on my server (TWC, they don't allow much space).  SO the error was incorrect, it just wasn't showing them for some reason.
SO I did a rebuild.  As soon as I did it all my emails dissappeared.  Not a sigle one was left- in that mailbox folder.  Every other one was ok.
Upon some internet advice I went, found the mailbox and inspected it to see it's size.  It's 1.7 gigs, so I am assuming that all the data is still there.
The question is, how do I get hte messages to show up again in Mail?  This has been crazy frustrating and nothing I seem to do works.  Including moving the Mail folder out of the licrary and those sorts of things.  I haven't moved any plist stuff yet as that seemed chancy.
    Help!

Note, hard drives should never get over 85% full.  So only do this advice if you are sure you won't exceed that limit.
Assuming you have more than enough space to make this happen, I would use the Finder after Mail has been quit to Duplicate the 1.7 GB folder and put the extra copy on the Desktop.  Use Mail's Import command to import the contents of that folder.

  • Unable to activate parental control

    Hello,
I bought some months ago a black MacBook and I could use parental control in Safari without problems.
This week, I had to reinstall MacOS X and since then I can't activate parental control anymore. I tried all the actions proposed in this forum but without success. I erased the disk with 0 writing, installed MacOS X 10.4.6 in English and installed all updates so that at the end I was running MacOS X 10.4.8. I created an account and activated parental control for Safari, Mail, Finder and iChat (not dictionary). When I check parental control check mark in Safari, it is not activated and when I try to activate it, it doesn't work. I tried with user accounts with and without password, with and without limited finder. In each cases, it didn't work. Every help will be greatly appreciated because without parental control on, I can't let my boy surf on the internet.
    Black MacBook 2GHz 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello once more,
    I solved the problem.
The solution was to reformat the disk using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" instead of "Mac OS Extended case sensitive(Journaled)".
Thanks to all for their help.
You are welcome, thanks for the reply back & letting us know that it was your original? format choice that was the problem, & reformatting to Mac OS Extended Journaled [ as my computers are all formatted] helped get you sorted.
I am not clear why one would chose to format as such, this is new to me.
I am very glad you can now feel more secure in allow your child on line.
At least i knew that the parental controls do work as I underlined,
I am curious exactly how the case-sensitive format prevents them from working/being active.
For others reading this thread topic, here is Apples document on,Mac OS X Choosing UFS or Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) formatting
And this from Macfixit, The dangers of case-sensitive HFS+
Panther includes Case-sensitive HFS as a potential file system. However, implementing a case-sensitive file system in OS X has some significant hurdles, the most compelling being that many current Mac OS applications that work with files will need to be updated to provide case-sensitivity themselves. This especially the case for backup and disk repair utilities. For example, using the two example files above, most backup applications will assume that they are the same file, and only back one up. (Dantz has already posted a warning to this effect in a Retrospect support document, stating, "Retrospect 5.1 does not recognize case-sensitive file names. If 'file' and 'FILE' exist in the same directory, only one will be backed up.") Likewise, most current Mac OS X disk utilities would see the two example files as two files with the same name, causing a number of problems when trying to repair/rebuild/reconcile drives and drive directories.
In other words, Case-sensitive HFS is not (yet) for the masses. We're sure there will be a curious type (or forty) who will be determined to figure out how to enable it on the standard OS X client. If such a procedure becomes available, we urge you to remember the old saying: just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I also read this,10.4: Use Adobe Creative Suite with case-sensitive HFS
    quote from link....
"One of the downsides I have noticed of a case-sensitive file system is that Adobe's CS 2 Suite does not work at all. The solution is simple though:"
See the link for more.... a learning experience for me, thanks.
    Enjoy your Macbook!
    Kind regards,
    Eme'~[ )

  • Https in parental controls

I am trying to allow https://gaggle.net and https://studyblue.com in Parental Controls.  I put in the address, but the site is still blocked.  I had a similar problem with Google Apps - after doing some research I found if I put https://1e100.net it would allow Google Apps.  What can I use to allow Gaggle.net and StudyBlue.com?
    Thanks!

I don't use parental controls, but have a look at this topic, particularly the post by
bobert1451 down the bottom. It sounds like his advice may be what you are after, about changing a setting in the parental control setup.

  • Is it possible to stop Parental Controls from warning about syncdefaultsd and IMRemoteURLConnection?

    This is driving me batty.
syncdefaultsd and IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent relentlessly cause Parental Controls to pop up a warning message about how it's being helpful in restricting these websites.
The addresses are what appear to be rolling IP addresses (https://17.151.236.38, https://17.151.236.39, etc.) I swear I try to whitelist these, but they do not ever show up in the whitelist after I've authorized it. And 100 new IPs will cycle through next time anyway, so what good is that?
The whole concept of this dialog box baffles me. I can only imagine that no one at Apple has ever used this functionality and has seen how obtrusive it is to anyone trying to work with the computer. It appears, steals focus away from whatever app is in the foreground, and then when it is dismissed, does not return focus to the window the user was using!
Is there a writedefaults command to turn this annoying box off, and usage logs I can scan for IPs to add?

I'm having this problem as well. If I turn on 'try to limit websites automatically' I get an endless list of IP addresses and even if I allow them the same ones seem to reappear. Browsing becomes impossible and I see this has been going on since Mountain Lion, disastrous. To get round it I have started to use OpenDNS to filter websites and give my (older) children a standard account. It's not ideal as Open DNS will try to filter any computer using the external IP and their DNS settings but you can use different DNS settings on your own computer.

  • Installed Parental Controls on MBP 10.7.5. Now it's unusable (exc admin's acct).  Constant message pops up- "You don't have permission to use (whatev) app." U can click: ok, always allow, allow once, but no matter what, message continues and u can't work

    Hi,
I installed Parental Controls on our MacBookPro 10.7.5. Now it's unusable (except for my  admin's acct). Constant messages keep popping up that say  "You don't have permission to use (whatever) application." You have the option to  click: ok, always allow, or allow once, but no matter what you select, the messages keep popping up and prevent you from working.  I have searched these forums, and all I have found is that you are supposed to uninstall the application (Spotify, dashboard, etc). Deinstalling every app is not a solution.
If the parental controls just don't work - and frankly I'm tired of wasting all this time trying to fix the bugs - can someone recommend a program that will restrict certain user accounts to any websites I haven't specified?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Thanks Bob for that very fast reply!
But neither "Modifying hal configuration" nor "Using the Desktop Environment settings" (xfce) worked. So I tried the "I don't want this crap, how do I turn it off?" solution and well it works
Maybe I turn it back on in a month or so.. but for now i'm fine with no hot plugging but a working keyboard...
    Thanks and Bye!

  • Parental Controls for Mail does not present all emails to approver

Those of you who use Parental Controls to manage your children's use of email via Mail know that you can restrict emails they receive to ones sent by people on a whitelist, only. If someone not on the whitelist sends a message, it should be first sent to you for approval, after which it is let through to your child in Mail.
That's the theory. Putting this into practice I sent messages from my various email accounts to my son's email address. None of those that weren't on the whitelist got through--that's good. However, I received permission requests for only two of those messages. The one sent from my work account simply disappeared--that's bad.
Do any of you have a sense of how robust this part of Parental Controls is? I did file a bug report on this, by the way.

restore mailbox function of Mail was the solution ...

  • Is there a way to retrieve messages denied by Parental controls?

I'll deal with how this happened later, but somehow my parental controls for my kid's email alias started applying to my email account and alias. (at least I think that's what happened). Is there anyway to retrieve emails from the last several days that apparently may have been rejected by parental controls?
Your help is MUCH appreciated. Here I thought I was one of those 2% experiencing difficuluties on .mac and was waiting patiently only to discover this madness.

      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What does your  > Sys Prefs > Accounts > {your account} > Parental Controls have in place now?
If necessary, try removing (only temporarily) any Parental controls put in place on the kid's account, see if that fixes your problem on your Mail account, then re-establish those controls on the kid's account.
If the mails that you were expecting are not on the server, i.e., outright rejected/bounced, probably not much you can do about those except ask the senders to resend.
Be sure to doublecheck the kid's account info, like making sure (s)he is not using your login username.

  • Using e-mail with parental controls

Is there a way to get the parental controls to allow my daughter to access her college e-mail and still have the adult website filtered? My daughter is starting college classes (at 14 yrs. old). The classes are set up for kids are above average achievers to help them get a head start in college. When she tries to access the college e-mail, there is an error message that says it is not a secure connection. We fixed this problem in the past with her aol mail by setting up the mail program on the MAC. We did allow her to have her own gmail address, thats another story, but she can access it without using the MAC email program.
Is it possible to set up the MAC to let her have access to the college mail and still filter the internet. The last time I had to select "Allow unrestricted access to the internet" under "content" to let her access her college e-mail account. How is it possible for her to access her gmail account without using the MAC's e-mail program?

You know, I expected an answer like; "Your parental control can't be used like that. Its just a program, so it will try to block adult sites, or block unsecure connections. Like AOL mail for example. If you want her to access the school mail, then you'll just have to allow unrestricted access to the web. You can still monitor her web browsing. As for gmail, some email sites are able to be accessed even with the parental controls turned on."
I even expected some arrogant replies like Carolyn's. Telling me how to access gmail.
    Thanks for nothing!

  • Mavericks: Parental Controls: Messages Logs not working

Hello - my parental controls appear to be working ok - except for monitoring Messages via the "view logs".  When I attempt to view messages it has no content even though she (my daughter) has been using the Messages app and it says something like 50 messages were exchanged.
She has an iPhone too so is it possible that the iPhone messages don't come into the Parental Controls logs of Messages?   - even though the Macbook DOES show her iPhone messages in the Messages app when she's logged into the computer ?
    Thanks in advance

A debt of gratitude goes out to this guy for solving the issue.

Essentially, make sure the email address listed in the Mail.app account of the person receiving the "Always allow" mail and the email address listed in Parental Controls>Mail>notify are the same.

  • Parental Controls & "Ask Permission"

I'm trying to use Mail rather than Entourage to set up our daughter's first email account on her G4, using 10.4.7. I chose Mail for her because of its stronger parental controls.
While the basic account setup is smooth, including when I turn on the "ask permission" controls and activate it to use my wife's email account for granting permission, two things DON'T happen.
First, no email seeking permission is received at the wife's account, AND
Second, the lack of permission doesn't seem to affect the ability to send the offending email from the daughter's account. It goes anyway.
Even though the request permission window appears, and we click REQUEST PERMISSION, and the warning banner comes up saying that Mail has requested permission and the offending email goes into the Draft folder and stays there, the offending email is sent anyway, without permission. When we click on the offending email in the Draft folder, it lets us know that Permission has not yet been granted.
This is on a new Mail 2.1 installation.
    Anyone know the solution?

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, downlod & install this...
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
Let us know from there if there's still a problem.

  • Parental Controls are so user un-friendly: can't open yahoo e-mails

I picked the parental controls option where I have to approve individually each site they go to. As my kid goes to his yahoo e-mail, I have to approve each time he clicks--entering his password, opening a mail, etc. THen, opening a message, it says, error--file content not found. Isn't there a way to allow for regular yahoo e-mail usage with parental controls?

I had the same problem too.
I searched by using bing.com (fortunately MS search engin has helped me )
    I found a archived post https://discussions.apple.com/message/11061084#11061084
I did what Carolyn said and I also checked the PeerGuardian app
but I don't think it's because of this app that my connection wasn't possible, because I rarely use it.
    Et voilà, everything works now.
I'd like to thank Carolyn and Rave for allowing me to do not format my dear iBook G4 that I haven't formated for over 3 years!!! (I've done the whole backup of my iBook)
