Parental Controls do not stay.

I have set up parental controls on each individual box top in my home.  I set time controls from 12 am to 6 pm Monday - Friday.  The tvs should require the parental pin code during these hours but does not.  In fact, when trying to manage my box tops from my online account the only set box available is mine.  I set up each box with custom names and can not find them on my drop down list anywhere.  Also, I believe if you unplug the top box that it automatically undo parental controls.  This really defeats the purpose of parental controls if your kid is able to reset the box.

That's a bug in the current version of iTunes that Apple has acknowledged. There's no indication as to when the bug will be fixed, though. You (and anyone else for whom this is a problem) might want to submit a comment to Apple through the iTunes feedback page so that they know it needs to be a priority.

  • Parental controls do not stay locked

I am having a problem with the parental controls. I block the store, podcasts, and control the content ratings. Once this is done, I click on the lock to "lock" the changes. No sooner do I quit iTunes and go back in and the parental lock is back "unlocked". I am trying to block my teenager from spending money w/o my permission and from the content ratings I am trying to keep him from. I am the administrator and he is not. He should not be allowed to change these locks, but he can.
This is happening on all three macs we have regardless of platform (a G3, G4, and Intel) with os 10.4.9. (we are all running 7.1.1 of itunes) Is there a way to permanently LOCK these parental controls?

Just thought I'd let you know.  Our suspicions were correct, it was the OS. After I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8) all the problems were corrected.  I also updated the RAM from 1 gb to 6 gb. The mac is working all around better. Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone. My superdrive had pooped out. Rather than replace it I got an external drive from OWC connected with firewire 800.  So far everything is running very well, as far as I can tell this external drive is better than the original superdrive. My superdrive has always acted funny, infact I returned the first mac I got after a week because its superdrive was also malfunctioning. Anyway, all that to say everything seems to be fully functioning again.

  • The time limits on the parental controls do not work. Apple does not seem to know how to fix this issue since the problem has been going on since at least leopard.

The time limits in the parental controls do not work. I have several mac systems and they do not work on all of them. Also, I have had this problem since at least snow leopard and it is very frustrating that Apple is unable to fix a simple issue like this. All they have to do is somehow 'hard-wire' the time limits to the system clock but they are not listening. I used the feed-back feature in their support webpage and hopefully everybody else experiencing this issue will too. Thus, if they get a thousand notes on this issue they might listen and finally fix it.

Well, the whole system with those time limits are funky. Sometime this happens, sometime that happens. When the user is on the bed time limits do not work nor do the length of time limits. It is very frustrating as one of the reasons I bought an apple in the first place was those parental controls which did not exist in Windows prior to Windows 7. I do have a Windows 7 machine now and the bed time limits work there. Maybe you have a Windows 7 machine as well and can let them use it.

  • Who else has a problem with parental controls enabled not being able to run Firefox on the Mac?

Who else has a problem with parental controls enabled not being able to run Firefox on the Mac? (Any solutions?) (BTW. Chrome doesn't work either)

Although FF4 is so nice I'm almost ready to ditch iGoogle!
Please fix what appears to be an RSS/iGoogle issue with FF4...
Gmail is fine, but titles dont show in most RSS feed gadgets and no stories, strangely, apart from this one:
    http://www.google.com.au/ig/directory?hl=en&url=www.google.com/ig/modules/builtin_news_technology.xml
Which if you enter the last part of the url reports that
    "<Content type="html">
This is a builtin module, so the UserPrefs and Content are ignored."
    Any ideas?

  • Control does not stay in case structure while using motion VIs

    Hi,
I have a motion control card PCI 7344 connected to my PC. I am able to control the motor at the required speed till the required position using an encoder. Now I have put my motion control VIs in a case structure in such a way that, if Case1 is selected then the motor should to position P at speed S, if case 2 is selected then the motor should move to position Q at speed S and if case3 is selected then the motor should to position R at speed S. I am selecting cases 1,2,3 etc. by scanning a set of numbers seperated by spaces which look like this,
    1 2 5 7 3
This number scanning is done using a while loop. Now, when the first number is scanned in the above set of numbers. The number 1 is obtained and the control is switched to case1. But before the motor reaches position P, the control switches to case2 and before completing the execution, the program scans case5 and so on. That means that the control does not stay till the move in the case 1 is completed. I'm sure there must be a way to retain the control to a case and stop the next number to be scanned before the functions in the particular are completely executed. I thought of one method, i.e. by using the move complete VI provided in LabVIEW, but I could not implement it. Please help me out with this.

    Hi,
Our motion controllers allow you to preemptively start a move in the middle of a current move.  For example if you are moving from point A to B and based on some logic, you determine you need to immediately start moving to point C.  A preemptive move allows you to just load the new target position and call start.  You do NOT have to first stop the current move and then start the new move.
In your case, you want the first move to complete before the second move starts.  There are two ways to handle this.  First, wait for the move to complete via a Wait For Move Complete function/VI call, or use the Check For Move Complete function/VI in a loop.  Second, use Blend Start instead of the regular start.  A Blend Start (if blend factor is set to 0) waits for the first move to complete before the second move starts.
Check out the help topics for Start Motion and Blend Motion to learn more.
    Thanks,

  • Parental control is not working correctly

    hi,
when I initially got my iMac, it seems the parental control I set up for my son's account was working fine with respect of the time allow to use the computer but not it does not work.
no matter what I tried (limit computer to use, weekend time limits, or bedtime), it does not work
is there any upgrade or fix for this?
    thanks

I have the same problem.  If you've found the solution, please share.

  • Parental Controls do not work.

I recently setup a computer for my boss' daughter and in doing so enabled the parental controls. Everything appeared to be working correctly until I got a call tonite. When I first setup the parental controls feature, I gave my boss' daughter access to only ONE site.... Yahooligans (The YAHOO SITE FOR KIDS). She came home today and typed in yahoo.com in the address bar and the main site came up with full search capabilities. Eveything else is being blocked as expected but this totally defeats the purpose of having a kids site if the kids can type in yahoo.com and get to the full acess/full search site. Anyone else having these problems..... or know of a third party software for Mac to block content?
Thanks in advance for your input

Often, when it isn't possible to select an application for use in a "managed" account, the fault lies with the developer of the software for failing to follow Apple's guidelines and omitting eg. the 'CFBundleIdentifier' from the programme's "Info.plist" file.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300842
As the article suggests, it would be best to check with the developer, although it may be possible for a user to edit the file themselves in some cases, but given the effort involved, most people seem to find the alias workaround good enough.
Regarding the presence of the "Shared" folder in a "Simple Finder" user's "Dock", these managed user preferences are all stored in 'mcx_settings' in the "NetInfo" database, in plain text so it is possible (though somewhat tedious) to edit them. Another option is to download the "Server Admin Tools" from Apple, which includes "Workgroup Manager.app" which allows some fine-grained, though not complete control over these settings through the plist editor (it isn't exactly user-friendly either, but it is sort of a GUI).
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/serveradmintools1047.html
However, if the concern is that the user can open applications that haven't been selected, note that blocking access to the "Shared" folder still won't prevent users from launching programmes by other means.

  • Parental Controls do not control Front Row

    Hello everyone-
I have noticed that on my managed accounts if I do not select Front Row as a permitted application it runs just fine anyway from within the managed accounts. I can launch it from either the Finder or the keyboard shortcut and the content it displays (Top Musics Videos from the iTunes store etc) does not seem to be restricted in any way by the parental controls in iTunes.
Has anyone found a fix for this, or is this one more thing in the list of things we are all waiting for in 10.5.2?
    -Mike

    Fixed in Snow Leopard

  • E1200 Parental control seems not functioning well...

    Hello, friends,
I have a LinkSys E1200 wireless router at home. I set up the parental control, limiting the internet access between 8am - 11pm only. However, to my surprise, my son can still use the facebook to chat with his friends after 11:00pm! I found this a few times!!
I thought he downloaded some software so as to get around the router settings. However, he denied he did anything. While, with the other laptop, which is used by my daughter, the limited-internet-access-time-interval works fine: between 8am - 11pm only.
    Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Unfortuneately the web-based setup page doesn't give me that option. I have an E1200 Router, Firmware V2.0.04 and there is an "Access Policy" menu with the only sub-option of "Parental Control". There isn't an "Access Restrictions" menu with multiple options containing "Internet Access Policy". I verified that V2.0.04 is the latest firmware update, why do I not have this functionality?
I appreciate the quick response and offer to help.

  • Parental controls but not on my iPhone

i have just put parental controls on my sky Internet. I do not want it on my iPhone. Am I able to take it off just one device?

That's my understanding too - it works at router level, not on individual devices, so all traffic passing through the router from any device is controlled.

  • HT201304 iOS parental controls do not prevent the child from changing the device passcode.

So the parent cannot get into the device at all unless the child provides the passcode. Sure, the device can be taken away until the child provides the passcode, but why don't parental controls just prevent the passcode from being changed?  Either that, or the parental control passcode should allow the parent to get into the device, over-riding the passcode lock.

We are not Apple iOS programmers.  Just device users like yourself.

  • Parental Controls : "bedtime" not able to be set

I'm trying to set a bedtime as a parental control on my mac. I can't enter a time at all as the field is blank and I can't scroll up or down. I've had this same problem in iWeb and I can't set certain fields. I still cant enter dates in iWebs countdown timer after several months of people trying to help.

It started to work for some reason. I'm not quite sure how.

  • EA4500 Parental Controls are not flexible.

    1) Why does it not save my time schedule.  Ex.  If I have built a time schedule for a device, and then decide to temporatily override the schedule (block always, or never) when I go back to the schedule it's gone and replaced by some default schedule.  I end up rebuilding the schedule every time which I can't even do from my mobile.  The internet in my house is used as a punishment/reward system for other behariors so I go through this all the time.  The old software was much more flexible in this respect.
    2) Why can I build a list of saved schedules and apply them to a device (or devices) as needed and change as often as needed.  The old software allowed this.
    3) Device groups.  Why can't I group devices.  I have two sons and each has 3 or 4 devices (pc, phone, Playstation, etc).  I would like to be able to group these devices and be able to apply restrictions to the group.  For example when son has homework I want to turn all his stuff off until it's done, then go back to the schedule on all devices.  I need to be able to do this easily in one step, from my mobile.
Please add these features and flexibility.  I'm sure may parents will benefit.
    Thank you ,
    Howard Smith

Let me know the model number of the Router? The Parental controls feature may vary among various models. There are only two Linksys/Cisco router like E4200 v1 and E1200 v2 has an access features offer both Internet Access Policy and Parental controls where in you can restrict the Internet according to the specified timings.
Here is the link which will help you in setting it up for restricting Internet access: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=47ca0674f26d425e81592ca55ba3152b_21460.xml&pid=80&...
Second you cannot edit the time frame except the provided one. Well you have to wait for the future firmware release which can add the support for editing the time.

  • Parental Controls does not delete explicit song titles

If music has explicit lyrics, parental controls makes this music inaccessible. That's fine, but parental controls should also make explicit titles invisible. Why display the titles of music that cannot be accessed to children?
Message was edited by: Richard Reid1

The Explicit controls in iTunes are only for iTunes store content.
If you RIP CDs or get music elsewhere, they are not marked explicit in iTunes.
Why not create a user account on the computer for your children and add only the content that you deem appropriate?
