Parental Controls & Google Drive Icon Helper

I have allowed Google Drive in Parental Controls, but the popup saying I haven't allowed access to Google Drive Icon Helper pops up every minute or so. I've clicked 'always allow' and entered my password, but it still pops up. I went to system preferences and tried to add it, but the Google Drive Icon Helper isn't in the list of approved apps. HELP!

  • Enabling parental controls and keeping icons on desktop

I turn on parental controls and after logging out and back in the app icons on the desktop all disappear and I can't find them anywhere. Any thoughts?

Hi, every user's Desktop is different & Unique.
Check the preferences & see if you chose Simple Finder for instance, & which apps the Managed account is allowed to use.

  • Parental Controls/Google

    Hi,
I have several kids that I created accounts for (before Leopard) and was satisfied with the controls I had on Safari. But now I cannot figure out how to get rid of the Google bar. This wouldn't be a problem, but it is so easy for them to change the search filters. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

only way you can get rid of the search bar is to remove the url bar as well.

  • Ichat, google talk & parental controls

I need to be able to use ichat while homeschooling my children.  But I also just recently had to turn on parental controls on my sons computer to limit the computer time.  I found that ichat through bonjour will not work.  I thought I had found a solution by signing up for a google talk account.  I did all the these steps that WuzzyBoom posted a while back:
You can get GoogleTalk to work if you:
    1. disable the parental controls on the desired user account*
    2. log into that account*
    3. setup the GoogleTalk connection and test.
    4. log out of user account
    5. log back into the admin account
    6. enable parental control again
    7. done.
This seemed to work except that when I turned parental controls back on and logged back into his account, there was no list of buddies online, just the chat windows showed up.  Not a big deal because he is only allowed to chat with 3 people and we had left the chat windows open so we could chat after putting the parental controls back on.  But when he closed his computer for the night,  it logged him off of ichat and this morning when i tried to tell him something through iChat it says he is offline and the chat window will not open on his computer.
Has anyone been able to find a solution to not being able to use iChat when parental controls are on?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have tested this before in Leopard.
In Leopard (iChat 4.x.x) it is know that the parental Controls Limit iChat to just AIM Logins
I had heard and was convinced I had tested that Jabber worked in Snow Leopard (iChat 5.x.x) when Parental Controls were ON.
Currently I cannot get my Google Account to Login when Parental Controls Is On,
The Help in Lion says this  (these two appear in the other order in Snow Leopard but say the same thing)
    Pic
This would imply that Jabber as well as Bonjour is Still furned Off.
What is strange is that I run Little Snitch (it tells you ports and IP address of connections) and this says iChatAgent (The support app that does the Login ) is in fact Logging in to Google.
The iChat Preferences loses the option to Enable the Bonjour and Google account.
Nor does the iChat Menu > Accounts allow you to select/Tick Bonjour or Google.
And, of course, they don't appear in the Window Menu.
    NOTE
WHen this was done in Leopard (iChat 4) with an AIM name any Buddies that were not allowed did not show Up if you left Parental Controls ON and returned to using your regular Mac User account.
That is to say if you tested with Screen Names and IDs (Accounts) you used in your regular Mac User Account and used those in the "test" account, as I did, then any Buddies not added to the AIM Allowed Buddies (in Parental Controls) restricts the Buddy List when you come back to your regular Mac User Account.
Based on thre Note above I notice that the AIM Account I used in both is restricted to the one Buddy that Is On line that I allowed in Parental Controls (I used an Address Book card and this listed Jabber and AIM Screen Names).
The Google account is uneffected by the fact I entered two Names/IDs via the Address Card pick and one Manually.
I double check things against the 7 step list you gave in the first post.
My "Test"  Mac User Account was set up with the Google Account/ID and my AIM Screen Name as it's two Accounts (in addition to Bonjour) before I turned On Parental Controls.
I was in the Admin Mac User Account (my Regular Login) and set Parental Controls.
The Bonjour did not Log in ("known" Issue)
The Google one did not and could not be made to Login from thr Preferences . Account sub option in the iChat Menu or the DOCK Icon.  The option to Show Jabber Buddies had also disappeared from the Menu Bar Icon drop down.
I have tried resetting this whilst the Test Mac User Account was Logged in (You have to enter the Admin's Name and password to Set Parental Controls)
I briefly managed to get the Google List to show but it was not restricted.
When I quit iChat and re-launched it the Google option was Off again.
I have spent some time trying different combos but on my Snow Leopard computer I cannot get Google/Jabber to display in any form when using Parental Controls.

  • Parental Control Troubleshooting

I tried to install the Guest Account and Parental control with few additions in the pre-selected software. As soon as I push the "lock icon" to close the "parental controls", the multicolor wheel do not stop rolling and I have to "force quit" from "parental control" window. Any help on this ?
    Thanks

Not to beat (or revive, as the case may be,) a dead horse, but...
    I have three Leopard computers:
A MacBook Pro (see tag at bottom of post,) which only has one account, so no Fast User Switching, and no parental controls. Dashboard works fine.
An eMac (1.25 GHz USB 2.0 model, 768 MB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, SuperDrive,) with two accounts, plus the Guest account turned on. Fast User Switching is on, and the Guest account has parental controls. Dashboard works fine in all three accounts, no matter what user switching I do.
A 12" PowerBook G4 (867 MHz VGA model, 640 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive, Combo Drive,) with one account, plus the Guest account turned on. Fast User Switching is off, and the Guest account has parental controls. I have Dashboard disabled in the Guest account. Dashboard does not work in the main account, though. (I do have the security on this computer totally locked down. Every single Preference that even hints at "security" is on. Secure VM, FileVault, auto-logout after x minutes, login window requires typing user name and password, the works.) I've tried all the tricks, including turning off Parental Controls. This computer is also on its original software install. Yes, really. It has never been reformatted since I opened the box. It came with Jaguar, and has been upgraded to Panther, then Tiger, and now Leopard. I have deleted user accounts and created new ones, (the current user account is less than a month old;) and have done disk repair and permissions repairs. I know that Dashboard worked in Tiger on a different user account; but I honestly can't recall having tried Dashboard on the current user account in Tiger, much less in Leopard, until today.

  • Google Drive problems on Yosemite?

Google Drive does not work on my 2012 MacBook Air after installing Yosemite but it works on my 2010 Mac Mini. Anyone else with that problem?

I have a very similar problem with Google Drive on my Mid-2011 Mac Mini.  Google Drive is grayed out in my menu bar and it does not respond at all when I click on it.  It also did not seem to be syncing with the server.  However, I may have found a partial solution to this.  I simply redownloaded the most recent version of Google Drive from their servers and used it to replace the app that was already on my HD.  The message that I got when I dragged it to the Applications folder indicated that it was the same version as the one that was already there.  However, upon running this replaced app, my Google Drive folder updated automatically, the way it should.  However, the Google Drive icon on my menu bar is still grayed out and is still unresponsive.
BTW, because the Menu Bar icon is unresponsive, it was necessary to quit Google Drive by going there Activity Monitor.  (That is found in the Utilities folder which in turn is in the Applications folder.  I include that just in case someone comes along who may not know where to find that app.)

  • R Rating - Parental Control in Encore CS5

Adobe sales support informed me yesterday that an R RATING can be set in Encore CS5.
I can't find anything about R RATING / Parental Control via Encore CS5 help nor can I find same in any Encore Forum.
Please answer as soon as possible.
You can email me independently at [email protected]

Call that person back and tell him/her to give you the page number in the Encore PDF
I just search both Encore and PPro PDF files, and do not find parental in either file
As I said... I've been on the various Adobe forums for about 8 years, and yours is the first mention I remember of parental controls
I don't think Encore will do that... so if you need it, you'll have to use different software

  • Parent control permissions and program access

I have different uses on my account so I can use parent controls and keep unwanted internet content out of my computer, however, this has created an access problem in that I can no longer use programs I usually use without having to log into the administrator account every time I want to use a program. Some programs I have been able to get working, but others refuse to be accessible even though I have marked them as available in the user access section in parental controls. Can you help?

You should not be sharing your account with someone who requires parental controls to be enabled. Create accounts for the other users to use, and keep yours for yourself. Then turn off parental controls on your account.
Also, note that if the primary intent is to limit internet access to certain types of site, you might want to try [OpenDNS|https://www.opendns.com>, which provides a filtering feature that is far superior (IMHO) to the parental controls in Mac OS X.

  • How do you remove parental controls

I need to know how to remove parental controls.  Can anyone help me?  The controls are locking out programs that I need to allow, but I lost my passwords.  Now I need to know the administators password.  How do I find this information?

    You need to ask mommy.

  • I have 2 desktops. mine and my sons. His is controlled by parental controls, when firefox downloaded the latest version he is no longer able to get on firefox on his desktop. please help.

I have Cox Internet service, which allows me to control what content other users on my computer see and do. My son has parental controls which do not allow him to view certain websites, download programming, ext... With this last update to Firefox, I am still able to get on the internet, but when he tries to click on the Firefox icon on his desktop it tells him there has been an error and shuts down. He is forced to use Internet Explore. I do not want him using this web browser. Please help us get him back on Firefox.
    Thank you Michelle Brooks

Add-ons are the responsibility of their authors. McAfee does not even put their extension on http://addons.mozilla.org you had to install it from their site.
Disable "McAfee Site Advisor" extension which was just updated to 3.4.0, which probably took it out of the addons block list.
    * "Ctrl+Shift+A" > find McAfee Site Advisor and use "Disable", and then restart Firefox.
    * Do a Google Search no problem
    * It seems that if you re-enable Site Advisor again, and restart Firefox you are okay. At least you know where to look if you get the error again or Google searches slow down.

    Make that four.
If you have any commercially advertised/available antivirus software installed on your Mac, completely uninstall this per the instructions on the AV developer's website.
Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X and can negatively affect OS X performance and operation.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac? These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and data is too great a risk!
Search the web to learn how to correctly and properly uninstall these kinds of apps.
    They all uninstall differently.

  • Is there an actual icloud drive icon on ios 8 like Google Drive or Dropbox?

    Hello,
I would appreciate any help that the community can provide.
I have successfully updated ios 8 onto both my ipad mini and my iphone 5s.
I was expecting to see some sort of icon on my screen, similar to Google Drive and Dropbox, but there is nothing like that.
I understand that apps will have this baked into them, however, when looking at the Apple site and the previews, etc., it clearly shows some kind of specific folder on a mobile device where everything is stored. Again, there is nothing like this available on my mobile devices.
Separate from the apps  and documents that are supposed to seamlessly update, I'm most concerned with my photos and videos that are suppossed to be saved in icloud drive. I thought the whole idea was to be able to upload photos and videos from mobile devices so that they could be deleted from them and free up space and then, if and when I wanted to download them again, then I could do so. At least this is what I believe to be the case. Perhaps I'm missing something?
I don't have a Mac, so there are no issues with Yosemite, etc. Again, based on the actual Apple demos and all the talk, I'm looking for some kind of icloud icon or something similar on my mobile device so I can see what is going on with it and so that I can access it.
I would appreciate any suggestions to help. Thank you.
    iphone 5s
    Ipad Mini
    PC running Windows 8

I wish I knew more to help you, but I didn't enable icloud drive, cause I know there is no way back and no benefit that I can see for me. Everything is not supported yet. The page that you seem to be seeing as a folder on ipad and iphone looks more like "settings"  for icloud on ipad and phone. Apps that are capable to use it are there and you already know that they use to sync with icloud anyway. Benefit is going to be when you can drag your work documents of different kind from your desktop on new mac OS. You may still be able to use your PC for that, but that is the only device where desirable icloud dragging can be done from desktop to drive. That is the way Apple presented drive and that is about all it does, as far as I know. Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in and help you better.
Here is what apple says that makes me think it is not icon.
Or start a new document using an iCloud-enabled app on your iOS device. Then you’ll be able to access those documents from all your devices.

  • How to enable usage of Jabber (& Google Talk) accounts w/Parental Controls

    Hello all,
As someone who just spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get iChat in a Parental Controlled account to work with Jabber (and Google Talk) accounts, and seeing that there were no good solutions posted on these boards earlier, I just wanted to share a workaround which could potentially work for some people.
You can find the solution posted on my wiki: http://wiki.lensovet.net/EnableJabber_accounts_in_iChat_with_Parental_Controlledaccounts
Of course, the usual caveats apply: make sure you have a backup of all your data before you proceed, and I take no responsibility if things go awry. If you have any questions, please post them as replies to this thread.
Good luck! Hope you find this helpful.

    Hi,
The reason I ask is that in Snow Leopard you can Add the Jabber/Google account's Buddies to the Allow List and they will work.
In Leopard this cannot be done (The Parental Controls vary in this extent).
In either case Bonjour also does not work.
Can you confirm you can Enable your Bonjour Buddy List (even if you have no other Macs) ?
Some people may find it useful to use to call kids, via Bonjour, for Tea or Dinner but still use other features of the Parental Controls.

  • Missing HD icons from desktop after fresh 10.6 install on drive!  Help!!

Here's the deal. I just bought an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD drive, and I also bought an IcyDock converter so that the 3.5 SSD drive will fit in a standard 5.25 Mac Pro hard drive bay. I put in the drive (I also have three other SATA drives in the other bays), reformatted the SSD drive to a Journaled HFS+ file system, and loaded a clean install of 10.6 onto the SSD drive. After the OS boots up after the fresh install, everything seems to be working just fine, except that there are NO hard drive icons (not mounted?) on the desktop. If I open up a Finder window, all of the drives are available to the left, and all of the drives are available within Disk Utility. The Finder seems fully functional, and if I take a screenshot, the file WILL APPEAR on the desktop.
If I use my original boot drive, all of the disks mount just fine on the desktop...this is only happening when I am booting from the SSD drive. The speed of this drive is awesome, but there is no way I can work around the hard drives not mounting to the desktop!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is it the SSD drive? Could the IcyDock bay mount kit be the culprit? A PRAM reset doesn't seem to do anything either.
    PLEAAAAASE HELP!!!!!

That helped me tremendously, too - I just loaded Snow Leopard and wasn't sure how to get the HD icons on the desktop. Your link was the first in Google and saved me a lot of frustration!

  • Missing Parental Controls Pane! Help!

For some time I've not been able to access some apps of mine because of Parental Controls blocking them, I know my Admin password and all but apparently the Parental Preferences are 'missing and not available', please help. I really need and love the apps that the Other Admin person some how managed to block from use and also some how managed to get rid of the Startup Disk, Sharing and Parental Control Preferences from the System Preferences, magically. The Icons and names of them are still there but it says 'Could not load [Name] Preferences Pane'. Please please help D:
By the way, I'm using a Macbook Air, updated to version 10.9, But I don't even know if that would make my macbook a mavericks, since it's the only Operating system that's 10.9 on Mac OS X.

iTunes needs an administrator account name and password to lock parental controls; i.e. you need to set Windows to require a password to login to your account before you can lock the controls.
