Parental controls sign-in

I recently re-loaded window XP SP2. My wireless linksys router is WRT54GS. Ever since, I constantly have to re-sign in to parental controls even though I check off "NEVER". I have had numerous email conversations with Linksys & they've been no help! I'm listed as a "family manager" & i have unlimited access but this is ridiculous! This is the only computer in my household that has this problem. Does anyone have a solution?

I had the same issue several years ago. It has to do with the update Netopia plug-in. Every time your computer goes to sleep and your screen saver with password protection kicks in, the plug-in determines that it cannot guarantee that you are the last person who was logged in (I say who cares, I got in using a password....and its the same user as the last time). So for safety sakes, it logs you out of parental controls. To get around this, I went into the parental controls website and listed my main computer as always connect as me so it never has to authenticate. It does this by MAC address. For the other PCs, I copied the older Netopia software and keep it handy. Any time someone updates the software I put the old back and then they can remain connected even after screen saving with lock. Jerry.

  • Having trouble setting up parental controls

Hello, when I set parental controls on the guest account, I still have trouble going to "allowed" sites. An example is, I allow access to google and amazon but when I try to access gmail it won't let me. It says something about a bad connection. The same with amazon; access to the main page is fine but when I try to sign into my account it won't let me.
    Am I missing something?
    thx

Apparently Parental Controls doesn't allow access to https (secure) sites, which would apply to those sites.

  • How can I put parental controls on laptops my kids already own?

    Hi all,
I bought my two daughters MacBook Airs this year, and they're great of course.
While setting up the MacBook Airs, the setup required user names and passwords for the accounts.  So they have those.  Each kid is the administrator of her computer, it therefore seems.
I would like to put parental controls on the MacBook Airs now.  (They're good kids, but I'm concerned about all the adult stuff on the internet.)  Is it too late?
Do I need to set everything up again so that I'm the Administrator and they're the users?  On previous (PC) laptops, I hated this, because then I had to sign in every time there was a software update and such.
Is there a way to set up parental controls after the fact now in a way where I won't have to sign in all the time to troubleshoot their computers?   Do I have to delete their current accounts, set up a new account for them and an account for me as "administrator"?  Will that become horribly cumbersome?
Any experiences and advice most welcome.  Thank you.

Admin rights are held in the Users & Groups Preference pane.
    Log in as her.
Create a new user for you and give that user Admin rights.
    Log her out.
Log in as you and take her admin rights away.

  • Mac App Store - page is inaccessible due to your Parental Control

Whenever I start the app store I get the following message on the Featured, Top Charts, and Purchased tabs.
defaultButtonok message This page is inaccessible due to your Parental Control settings. okButtonStringOK
If I try to sign in the wheel next to the account just spins and spins... It never connects. The Apple ID and PW are confirmed good in all the other apple apps and sites.
I am logged in with an administrator account - so no parental controls.
All parental controls are disabled in iTunes
It did not work in 10.6.6 or 10.6.7

Sorry let me be more clear...
No parental controls are enabled on the system preferences as there are no accounts that are not administrators.
In iTunes - no parental controls either.
The iTunes account works without fail.

  • DSCL Error on export and import of MCX parental controls

Hi I have been using the -mcxexport and -mcximport commands to copy local user parental controls in my labs but have hit a problem.
I need to use the commands to secure 250+ Macs over ARD. The commands have worked for me in the past but now I get Error: 14987
I have seen this error before but got around it by adding the .plist extention and making sure it had root access.
This has not worked. I am not a DSCL guru or a UNIX boff and am really stuck as to where this problem is.
I am currently in a lab of 20 where I get this error. I have another lab next door from a very similar build and that works fine.
    sudo dscl . -mcxexport /Users/student  /Users/admin/Documents/parental_controls.plist
    Error:14987
I have used sudo and even run logged in as root. Executed locally and over ARD. Pretty stumped, and quite desperate!
    The clients are 10.6.8
Any help would be really great!
    Cheers
    Carl

thanks - but that is effectivley what I did - used the repository import from my exported ZIP file - and it all imported OK - but the error on login to topology manager afterwards is that the snp user does not exist.
Although I initially used the 'Master Repository Creation' I then adaondoned this - dropped and recreated my Oracle user 'snpm' that owns the master repository and used the import repository approach.
I am trying to sign in as the standard SUPERVISOR user (that existed OK in the Hypersonic master repository that was exported to the ZIP file) and also trying other users that I know existed in the Hypersonic reporitory that I exported - same problem. I can see in Oracle SQL*Plus that in the SNP_USERS table the SUPERVISOR user exists.
If I do instead carry out a standard 'Create Master Repository' and do NOT try to import anything then it works OK and I can sign in to the Topology Manager as SUPERVISOR.

  • Parental Control Netflix app

Suggestion for apple tv 3 netflix ios 6 and up
    * Auto - play to next episode and movies
*Airplay netflix from ipad and iphone and macbook
Parental Control Netflix setting feature where users can disable enable the search / genre feature for parenthood with kids
which leaves us with just for kids and instant queue and sign out option
It will be great to bring parental control on apple tv 3 netflix setting to disable some feature like
Search .suggestion for you .recently watched .genres ,tv shows ,new releases
when it disable it will only show instant queue and just for kids and sign out
so one is for just for kids movies and shows and instant queue is what titles we have on queue
love to see parental control for netflix app on v 3 for iOS 6

  • Parental Controls - love em, hate em

I really like the parental controls in Yosemite - nice granularity and good job Apple.
However, there is one challenge that I face that hope as an easy answer that I may be overlooking.
I have Web parental controls set to the default of 'Try to limit access to adult websites automatically' for both of my kids.  However, I don't see a way to use wildcards to cover variations of a URL.  Specifically, my kids both use Google docs for school.  I am constantly having to 'approve' access to various URLs that all seem to be coming from Google docs.  I wish I could insert a wildcard such as the percent sign in this example: https://docs.google.com/%
There are other examples like this were wildcards should be used.  Is there a way to do this in Yosemite?

i havent heard anything bad about it but i also have not heard a lot about it in general.
i would suggest setting up another account on your machine and set the controls and try it out your self. you shouldnt have any issues that you cant fix very quickly (or just fix by deleting the test account)

  • Is it possible to set up parental control in MultiPoint Server 2012?

    Hello everyone!
Is it possible to set up parental control in MultiPoint Server 2012. I'd like to filter adult web sites.
    Kind regards,
    Pavel

I found an issue with Multipoint Dashboard that when student select to signout and then select "Cancel" to signout to go back to the session, the Multipoint Dashboard filtering is no longer applied to the session.
    here is the scenario -
     - Student login to the Multipoint server using the end point device as an standard user.
     - The Multipoint Dashboard has the configuration to "limit the website to all desktop". "cnn.com" only
     - The student session, limits the use of the web browser to only to cnn.com - this is working.
     - Studen open an app like notepad - click save --> prompted him to where to save the file.
do not save the file. leave the "Save as" windows open.
     - Click Start (left bottom corner)
     - Click the account’s name on the top right corner, Click Sign Out
     - It will prompt you with a warning that there is a file open and needs to be saved
     - "Signout anyway" or "Cancel"
     - student select to "Cancel"
     - He is now back to the session
This will allow the student/account logged in to bypass the web filtering

  • Parental Controls Have Blown Away My iChat

Thinking my teenager was too much involved with chatting when he would do better with homework, I set up an account called homework, which cut out all iChat (no buddies acceptable) and limited his Safari'ing. But, right away -- in our family account -- all the buddies went gray and no chatting was possible, not for my son, not for anyone! And I seem unable to call them back. Turning off parental controls seems unproductive.
Turned on parental controls for one account, lost iChat universally. HOW CAN I GET ICHAT BACK? (Yes, I'd like to keep my Homework account working, but I'll give it up if absolutely necessary)

    Hi Dialoguy,
Do you have your Mac set up that the Family acount is also a Non Admin Account ?
AT THIS STAGE DO NOT DELETE THE HOMEWORK ACCOUNT
Is the AIM or .mac account he signs in with in Homework the same one used in the Family account ?
Would it be even if it worked ? (had some allowed Buddies)
I have seen one occassion when Parental Controls were not to the perosons liking and they deleted the whole Mac USer Account without turning Off Parental Controls which caused them endless problems.
There was a recent Post about the fact that Jabber accounts can not be blocked (and there are AIM Transports out there to get around any AIM name blocks).
EDIT to that info. iChat help says Jabber and Bonjour is disabled at that time.
If the Family account is not the Mac's Admin acount account I would log on as the Admin account and try turning Parental Controls off there.
I would also check that the Family account if a standard one does not show itself to have Parental controls.
The documentation in iChat help states it is for one Mac User account at a time.
    Quote
    Using Parental Controls with iChat
If you are using Mac OS X v10.4 or later, and have your computer set up with other, nonadministrator user accounts, you can control who the other users of the computer can chat with. Using Parental Controls you can add only the buddies you want the other user to chat with.
To add buddies to other users' parental controls:
    1. Open System Preferences and click Accounts.
    2. Select a user account and then click Parental Controls.
    3. Select the iChat checkbox and then click Configure.
    4. Click the Add button and select a buddy from the list.
    5. If there are no buddies in the list, click New Person and enter the buddy's .Mac account or AIM screen name.
Only the buddies you add will be available for chats.
Parental Controls work only with AIM buddies. If you use Parental Controls, local buddies and Jabber buddies will not be available to the user you set up with Parental Controls.

I can replicate this with a test Mac User account using the same iChat name and Fast User Switching.
Closing IChat and restarting does not help.
The Test account does not have Multiple Logins allowed at present.

  • E-2500 Parental Controls

I recently purchased an E-2500, but notice that in parental controls I can only block 6 or 8 websites.  In my WRT54GS I could just create additional rules and they would work.  But in this device I am limited on the sites that can be blocked per device.  Does anyone know how I can block additional sites?

I posted this in response to another, similar question, but the info is the same, so I'll just paste it here:
Use OpenDNS. It's free. It works by you signing up and changing your DNS settings on your router (OpenDNS will provide instructions). All traffic through the router will be filtered according to the settings you set up at OpenDNS.com. They provide category filtering, as well as filtering of specific websites.
I just browsed through their website and it looks like finding the free version isn't as straightforward as it used to be. Go here: https://store.opendns.com/get/home-free to start the sign-up process.
I've used this system for years as have many people. It's safe, works well, and even provides statistics on what has been blocked/accessed if you'd like.

  • Blue screen after Parental Control times out

I upgraded our two-month-old iMac to 10.5.1 yesterday expressly so we could limit our kids' time on the computer. Now, when their account times out the screen goes all blue and there's no log-in screen. The only way to get a log in screen is to shut down and restart. And no, we don't have application enhancer. Already checked that. Anybody else experiencing this?
(The wife is also complaining because all her applications--especially Mail-- are running much slower since upgrading. Now I'm just another Mac fanatic with egg on my face...sigh)

I just logged into this discussion looking for the same issue and am experiencing it as well. When you click cancel at the extend time popup you often get the blue screen and a spinning icon in the middle of the screen. My only recovery has been to shutdown and restart.
I have a older iMac 1.8 ppc 20" and leopard. I also had a bad slowness issue and have since archived and re-installed. After doing that, my speed returned and it is MUCH faster now.. You may just try that.
I'd also like to post a related question that I have (hopefully someone at Apple may see this post), In regards to the Parental Controls. If I want to set a 3 hour daily max time, when that time is up, it seems to just return the to the sign on screen but DOES NOT actually log the user out. Im not sure if that is possible under 10.5.1 but it would be nice if it was. Or at least the option to set it at the user level to actually log them out. Has anyone else experienced this or have a suggestion?
    thx

  • Parental Controls don't work correctly under Yosemite

I'm having some serious issues with Parental Controls under Yosemite, issues serious enough that Parental Controls prove to be worthless under Yosemite as currently implemented.
This is a clean install of Yosemite upgraded to current version 10.10.1.
    Symptoms:
Using the child's account with parental controls active, when the parental control blocks a website, a dialog comes up offering to allow the parent/admin to approve the site and add it to the exceptions list.  This is nice!  Unfortunately, approving the website DOES NOT add it to the exceptions list... ever.   We discovered this when launching Keynote, which kept trying to connect to an akamai.net server (probably an update check).  We would sign in with the admin account to clear the server, then it would pop up with the same dialog box again.  We did discover that I _can_ add the site via the Parental Controls prefpane, but kind of a pain.  Why have a dialog box pop up if it doesn't actually work.
Time limits don't seem to be obeyed at all in Yosemite, child played on his account for 2 hours despite being set to 1/2 hour a day.
Some apps just lock up on launch (I do NOT use any app controls).  I suspect (but can't demonstrate with certainty) that they are accessing blocked websites in the background.  Two of the hanging apps are Pages and Keynote (current versions), apps I would expect to behave properly.
For now, I have disabled parental controls, as they are worthless in this form and just make for a frustrating experience for all.  It has been disappointing that a feature that used to come in handy (mostly the time limits) has become completely worthless now.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Parental control bug

Lion parental controls has AT LEAST one bug.  I limit the access time to my daughter.  Then it expires.  I try to increase, but since they are logged in, it won't update.  So they are in limbo.   Next, as admin, I try to FORCE logout of their account but this is not a supported feature.  So, we rebooted.  But after reboot, account is still locked out.  Only solution is to remove parental controls.  GEESH!  This is ridiculous.  So, tell me, exactly what is the workaround for increasing time for an account?

If you want parental controls there are much better ways to go about it without too much of a problem. The parental controls in the router are very limiting.
You can sign up for an opendns account and change the router to use the opendns name servers. You can then filter what you do't want your kids to get to by content type. It's also free. Onceset up simply  do an ipconfig /renew (or just restart them) on the windows systems you want to use the new setup. If you are a linux user I will presume you already know how to do this.
If you optionally don't want yourself to be under this umbrella you simpley have to change the DNS server IP on your computer to whatever the router IP is (ie. 192.168.1.1) or use someone elses like googles at 8.8.8.8.

  • Parental control account hangs on login after idle

I've got two parental controlled acounts set up on my kids computer which is running 10.8.3.
If they don't log out and the system locks from inactivity, when they go to log in it hangs. I havent' been able to confirm, but it might only occurr when there time limit is reached while they are logged out.
I can share the screen as an adminitstrator and kill the logind process to recover, but this happens almost every time.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

I had the same problem. Examining the console log showed that I needed to agree to some terms of service, but no terms of service showed up to agree to. On the iCloud panel I signed out and then signed in again. I had to agree to remove a bunch of stuff to sign out. When I signed in again the terms of service panel showed up and I was finally able to log in. Hope this helps!
    Some error text from console:
    com.apple.iCloudHelper:
    ErrorID = "MOBILEME_TERMS_OF_SERVICE_UPDATE"
description = "This account needs to accept the ToS"
(even though mobileme is gone, I guess the errors haven't been updated)
