Parental Monitoring of Kids' Computer Activity

Is there a mechanism, via OX X or third party software, to see the activity on my kids' computers on my computer? Although I have seen partial answers to this question, I want to find out if there is anything new out there. Other than Spector, any other ideas? I plan to tell the kids about the monitoring (the "trust but verify" approach). Other than general discussions about some of the perils of the internet, including predators, postings that will never die, and exposure to things that really no one should ever see but certainly no one under 18, any thoughts on specific warnings we should be giving our kids?

Well I personally like Apple's Parental Controls. It's built into the mac. It covers the basics, for free. It offers different levels of control.
There is also: NetNanny, internet-security-barrier , KidsBrowser (a kid safe web browser), BumperCars(another kid targeted browser), Spector Pro (slows down computer, takes lots of space, gotta clean out frequently), in the same line macspysoftware / eblaster.

  • Monitoring my kids computer use??

Right now I have Safari on my powerbook. I gave the laptop to my two kids. There always on Facebook and myspace. Is there any good software I can use to monitor there computer use?? Thanks

Well, if you don't mind spying on your kids (actually, don't blame you with today's online predators), there's Spector. It's real intention is to help employers keep employees from wasting thousands of hours of company time cruising the Internet, playing games and the like. But there's nothing stopping you from using it to watch what your kids are doing.

  • Monitor my kid's activities on the internet

I need to download a program that can help me monitor my kid's activities on the internet, is there a safe way to do it? I have a Mac mini with the latest os

Google "keystroke logger Mac OS X". You'll see several options, I didn't see any right away that were completely free, but some have a trial or limited free version.

Oh, and if you're kids are like mine on Facebook, get ready for some MASSIVE logs of their activity. If only they'd put that kind of effort into homework.

Can I use my ideacentre B305 as an external monitor for another computer?

    Hi l_elephant,
Unfortunately, no. The MacBook Pro must be on in order to display video and if it's on it'll either be in Target Disk Mode or booting to it's own OS (be it Windows, OS X, etc.) The new iMacs support this feature with a "Target Display Mode," but this feature is not available on the MacBook Pro. +(at this time)+

You know, this is just a thought.  I'm not sure the differences between the iq526 and iq770, but as I was looking around I found this article.  I don't know if it'll help, but you might want to take a look.  Evidently someone figured out how to use the HP touchsmart as an external monitor for his Dell laptop.

  • Office 365 with Shared Computer Activation (on RDS 2012)

    Hi,
I have installed Office 365 (shared activation method) on RDS 2012.
This works fine, users can activate using their Office 365 account and the entire Office suite appears activated.
The issue is that the users intermittently (random intervals) have to re-enter their details and reactivate.
Under what circumstances should the users have to reactivate, sometimes I can logon and activate and the next logon I have to do it again. Other times it can last for days..
    Thanks.

If you have ADFS or DirSync to your O365 tenant, most likely you wouldn't see this happening, it would all hookup seamlessly (a lot like KMS just does...)

  • My iPad air will not charge connected to my monitor or my computer. Why?

My iPad air will not charge connected to my monitor or my computer. Why?

Short answer:  Computer USB ports don't deliver as much power as the power adapter that comes with the iPad.
    Details:
Full size iPads come with either a 10W or 12W power adapter.  The mini comes with a 5W power adapter.
See iPhone, iPad, iPod: Using iPad Power Adapters
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327
    USB ports on computers deliver 2.5W (USB 2, 500mA x 5v) or 4.5W (USB 3, 900mA x 5v).
Newer Macs with high power ports can deliver 5.5W (1100mA x 5v).
See Apple Computers and Displays: Powering peripherals through USB
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4049
If you connect your (full size) iPad to a computer USB port, it may charge slowly, but since it's getting less than half the normal charging power, it may say "not charging".  It may charge slowly or it may not depending on use (screen brightness, processor load, etc.).  If you really want to charge it from the computer, put the iPad to sleep.
The best charging solution is to use the Power Adapter that came with the iPad.

  • Can I manage my parents MB from my computer using ARD. Even though they are on different networks

Can I manage my parents MB from my computer using ARD. Even though they are on different networks?>

When you say a diffrent network, do you mean accessing the computer over the internet?
VNC is built into the computer, so you don't need ARD to remote into a computer. To access your parents computer over the internet will most likely require configuring their router/firewall. And unless they're paying for a static ip, you'll also need some way to track their computer.
    OR
you can use logmein, or teamviewer. Both programs are desgined to access a computer over the internet. Most of the time they don't require re-configuring the firewall.
