ParentPort - Opt In or Opt Out?

Two relatively simple questions here...
it's now well known that BT will be leading the new ParentPort stuff announced by David Cameron last week... so the question becomes, will BT be censoring my internet without my permission automatically and wait for me to contact them to allow me to Opt Out of this **bleep**, or will the Parent Port censorship be an Opt In deal?
Second question... will BT charge me for opting out of the ParentPort Censorship **bleep**?
Two pretty important questions I believe, as I work in the adult industry, so if BT start automatically censoring my internet or charging me for what I used before for free, I'll start looking around for a new ISP now.
M

Hi Methos and welcome,
BT aren't leading Parentport. Parentport is a site run by the UK's regulators that anyone can use to report inappropriate content, whether that's via the Internet, TV and so on.
BT have been using Cleanfeed for quite some time now, which blocks alleged child **bleep** sites. These sites are identified by the IWF.
Reports that BT plus the other major UK ISPs will offer an option to block pornography are IMO misleading. BT already offer this in the form of BT Family Protection, which you need to additional install. The other ISP's will offer their own version.
Regarding the major ISP's, from my understanding, customers signing up to a BB package would be told more about these parental controls and asked if they want to use them at the point of sale. If they do agree to use these controls, then they've opted in. Existing customers would be told about such software, probably via a 'reminder email'.
So will BT block you from viewing adult **bleep**? No, unless you 'Opt In' either by asking them to block it or you make use of any software to block it.
I very much doubt that BT will charge you for opting out, even if you had previously opted in to any means of blocking adult **bleep** content.

  • HT201342 I'm a bit confused. Is the new iCloud email address opt-in or opt-out?

    Hello all
    I'm a little confused. Is the iCloud opt-in or opt-out?  There is nowhere in the message I recived to take any action now, but the wording implies that the email address is reserved for me, if I want it.  In other words, if I do nothing, do I get the iCloud email automatically at some point "in a few weeks".
    thx

    ok thanks, so if I do nothing straight away, they won't free the address up and give it to someone else, correct?

  • Opt IN vs Opt OUT for McAffee Virus Scanner

    Each time I update the Flash player Adobe attempts to get me to install a virus scanner.   I don't want it.   Sometimes I don't notice the box is already checked and the virus scanner install starts.
    Why can't Adobe be user friendly and make it an opt IN rather than opt OUT.
    It makes Adobe look like one of the bogus download sites that try to install crapware.

    Amen.  Now it doesn't give you a choice it just automatically downloads.  In the past there was a check to toggle on and off.  Now it just assumes.  Atleast have it check for an anti-virus program that is already on the system.  This is wrong on many accounts, and am leaning more towards the HTML 5 player now because of this invasive bull crap!

  • Adobe Acrobat updates - opt ins or opt outs for Google Chrome?

    Hi - anybody else fed up that when accepting one of the many Adobe Acrobat updates that the flag is set for also installing Google products? These should be set as opt ins, not as opt outs, and I find this intrusive. It's time wasting having to uninstall these products, and also fill in a lengthy questionnaire why you are uninstalling the product you never wanted to install in the first place!
    Rant over....

    I have never seen any Acrobat updates coming with bundled software; where do you get them from?
    Here is the last Acrobat update (Windows): http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5721
    Same, b.t.w., for Adobe Reader (Windows): http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5715

  • Install in /usr or /opt?

    I have created a package for a rather largish software framework. Right now I install the package in /usr, but the problem is that there is a scripts directory that must be placed in the same directory where /bin is, so this directory is created and installed also in /usr. I'm pretty sure this is not good practice, so I was thinking if it is better to install the whole thing in /opt and then export the path to the executables.
    I'd appreciate your input.
    Panos
    Edit: Removed package and replaced it with another version in AUR.

    OK, I clearly don't understand what's going on here, so I'll bow out rather than confuse things further.
    But if I may make a suggestion, I think it's very bad practice to use '/bin' to refer to anything other than the bin directory at the root of the filesystem.  Same for /lib, etc.
    OK, I understand your confusion with "/bin". I should have left out the "/" then .
    As for the directory structure, here is the build command in my PKGBUILD:
    ./bjam --prefix=$pkgdir/usr debug-symbols=off \
    --with-irstlm=/opt/irstlm \
    --install-scripts=$pkgdir/usr/moses-scripts
    If you replace it with this
    ./bjam --prefix=$pkgdir/opt/moses debug-symbols=off \
    --with-irstlm=/opt/irstlm \
    --install-scripts=$pkgdir/opt/moses/moses-scripts
    then the application will be installed in this directory structure:
    /opt/moses/bin
    /opt/moses/lib
    /opt/moses/moses-scripts
    Now, when some scripts run from inside the moses-scripts and do their directory walk ("../bin/some-moses-executable") everything will be fine.
    I hope I gave you more clues now.

  • /opt problems

    I just found out that Arch is installing most of it's packages in /opt which is creating big problems.  I have to keep adding to the PATH variable everytime I want to run some software.  I don't like that at all.

    I just recently got one of my family members to try arch and they had the same problem as i did about "firefox not working" after an install. Of course I figured out what was wrong after some time, but even still it is an issue. By default /opt/bin is included in /etc/profile however, it does not exist in /opt.
    So, I have a suggestion although I am not sure this is the correct forum for which to make such a suggestion. How about we take advantage of of the /opt/bin path that is included by default in /etc/profile and create a directory called /opt/bin in which we link the files of the bin directories inside of opt to i.e.(/opt/e17/bin , /opt/gnome/bin...). Using such an approach would maintain the current organization while sparing some headaches often encountered by new arch users.
    Let me know if this request seems completely off base. Thanks

    Your LD_LIBRARY_PATH is wrong, libraries are in $ORACLE_HOME/lib, not $ORACLE_HOME itself. The same for $TNS_ADMIN, normally net configuration files are in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.

  • Gnome /opt to /usr move questions.

    gnome moved to /usr. I just care less if it is in /usr or /opt, but I don't want it to be in double place. so, to check if everthing went smooth, I checked /opt/gnome for leftovers with:
    find /opt/gnome -print0 | xargs -0 pacman -Qo
    many 'No package owns', nothing to worry about. but two derelicts: gconf and gnome-backgrounds
    first, gconf. while all files went in /usr correctly, there is some 'double' (symlink):
    usr/bin/
    usr/bin/gconftool-2
    opt/gnome/bin/
    opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2
    opt/
    opt/gnome/
    from http://www.archlinux.org/packages/files/3138/
    why so?
    also, gnome-backgrounds has not been moved yet?
    http://www.archlinux.org/packages/files/6431/
    last, I use banshee, and I had to -R it, then -S again, but:
    checking package integrity...
    error: archive banshee-0.12.1-1.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted
    had to
    rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/banshee-0.12.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
    pkgrel not updated?
    no harm wanted, just wondering
    Last edited by lloeki (2007-04-23 09:59:33)

    Looks like I forgot to update pkgrel for banshee, and forgot to commit gnome-backgrounds completely. The /opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2 symlink is intentional to make sure old packages that install to /opt/gnome keep working. Many install scriptlets call it with the full path.

  • Implementation /OPT/VIM_CHECK_MIRO"will be migrated" in SPAU tx

    Hi experts,
                   I made an upgrade of ST-AP/PI plug in, and this required run the SPAU tx, but i have a problem with a badi.
    The SPAU tx solicited migrated 2 BADIs  " /OPT/VIN_CHECK_MIRO and /OPT/VIN_CHECK_MIGO".
    What can i do?
    Can anybody help me ?
    Thanks in advance

    Ok, that's SAP Invoice Management by OpenText addon. OSS has a precious few notes concerning installation of addon or upgrade of SAP Systems containing this addon (found using search term OTEXVIM):
    1920804 - SAP Invoice Management by OpenText support for EhP7
    1721041 - SAP Invoice Management by OpenText support for EhP6
    1262124 - Vendor key handling in ERP Enhancement Packages 3 and 4
    1353761 - SAP Invoice Management by Open Text 5.2
    1143354 - SAP Invoice Management by Open Text
    They concern for the most part only the compatibility of OT releases with SAP releases; you'll not find information on how the Open Text BADI implementations should be handled during upgrades, how they should be named, etc. That info may, however, be contained in something called "OpenText Vendor Invoice Management x.x.x. - Configuration Guide" documents - I came across one such document in google search.
    If documentation does not help, I'd suggest to contact OpenText support. If that is not an option, or if there is time pressure, I'd first try to handle it just like any other custom BADI implementation - meaning, option 2 in SPAU, creating new custom enhancement implementation (it should be for enhancement spot UPDATE_INVOICE though, I believe...). That should hopefully permit to create implementation in customer namespace and test, if the functionality is ok. Then, when the info from Open Text comes - do as they say.
    cheers
    Janis

  • How to find out which C library I am using?

    On my Solaris 9 UltraSparc system,
    % echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    /opt/gcc/3.4.4/lib:/opt/glib/2.12.1/lib:/opt/gnome/lib:/opt/openssl/0.9.7g/lib

    On my Solaris 10 x86 system,
    % echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    /pkg/gcc/4.2.1/lib:/opt/gcc/current/lib:/opt/glib/2.10.1/lib:/usr/sfw/lib:/usr/lib/mps:/opt/openldap/lib:/opt/openssl/current/lib
    % /usr/lib/libc.so
    usage: ld.so.1 [-e option,...] dynamic-object [object args,...]

    % echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    /opt/openssl/0.9.7g/lib:/opt/gcc/3.4.4/lib:/opt/binutils2.13/lib:/opt/glib/2.12.1/lib:/opt/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/lib
    % /lib/libc.so.6
    GNU C Library stable release version 2.6.1, by Roland McGrath et al.
    From the above, can one tell what C library I am linking to on the Solaris systems? If not, how can one tell? How do I know the exact location of the C library I am using?
    On the Linux/x86 system, I can use gnu_get_libc_version() to find out the version of glibc I am supposedly using. But it does not work when I compiled the identical C program using gcc on the Solaris 9/UltraSparc and Solaris 10/x86 systems. If I can use gnu_get_libc_version() , does that mean for sure that my C program links to glibc? On the other hand, if the linker reports that gnu_get_libc_version() is not found, does that mean for sure that my C program is not linked to glibc?
    Is there a function on the Sun libc similiar to gnu_get_libc_version()?
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-3690/Using.Libs.html says "The Solaris operating system comes with several libraries installed in /usr/lib. Most of these libraries have a C interface. Of these, the libc and libm, libraries are linked by the CC driver by default." If one wants to link to the glibc library, how to override the default? How to find out the default? Is it in some environ variable? If one changes the CC driver to gcc, does the default remain the Sun libc? And if one compiles explictly using gcc, i.e. "gcc myprog.c", is the default C library the Sun Library, or glibc?
    gnu.org has a (web page for the) glibc manual but I am not able to find a Sun C Library Manual. Is there one?
    Edited by: hzmonte on Jun 28, 2008 1:43 AM

    I'll discuss only the Sun C compiler here. For questions about gcc, look in the gcc manual, or try a gcc forum.
    Run the command "ldd" on an executable file or shared library, and it will report the shared libraries that it will link to, based on any runpath in the file, and on LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Example: % echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH: Undefined variable
    % cc hello.c
    % ldd a.out
            libc.so.1 =>     /lib/libc.so.1
            libm.so.2 =>     /lib/libm.so.2
            /platform/SUNW,A70/lib/libc_psr.so.1 BTW, except possibly for testing, there is usually no need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and setting it is usually a bad idea. For more on this topic see Rod Evans' blog:
    [http://blogs.sun.com/rie/entry/tt_ld_library_path_tt]
    Prefer to set a runpath in the executable so that no client needs to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    If you want to know what libraries the C compiler will link, based on a given command line, you can add the -v (verbose) option, which will display each subcommand. Or you can use the -### option, which shows what commands would be run. Example: % cc -### hello.c

    I've tweaked every debug/log/show exception config setting I can find .. including setting logger.log.level=ALL in:
    /etc/opt/SUNWps/portlet/PDConfig.properties
    It'll mostly fail with nada .. zilch .. zero. No hint or reason why. Occasionally I'll get something useful and I'll see an exception I made .. but the other 95% of the time I get no hint.
    I've a script that searches for any file touched in /opt/SUNW*, /var/opt/SUNW* and /etc/opt/SUNW*. I regularly get the following files touched:
    /var/opt/SUNWam/debug/portletcontainer.log
    /var/opt/SUNWam/debug/<myportlet>.log
    /var/opt/SUNWam/debug/desktop.debug
    Can anyone tell me where I should expect to see PortletExceptions logged? How do I turn that feature on .. just in case I've missed the config I need to change? Has anyone had any luck using the PortletContext.log(<msg>,<throwable) API calls? Is there some config that controls where that goes? (I would've assumed it all goes in the <myportlet>.log file .. but not for me.)
    Many thanks for your time ..
    Curtis.
    p.s. Below is an example of some of the messages I do see.
    One instance I get "ERROR: Content not available" .. I get a series of
    rather unhelpful internal exceptions that (for example) complain the portlet threw an exception of some sort. If only the root cause had been printed out it would be possible to nail exactly what's going on in my code that's the issue. Unfortunately this style of "black box" debugging is taking me 10 times (literally .. honestly!) longer than it should. I have to comment out stuff and slowly add it back in again .. if only I could've seen the exception.
    (NOTE: I modifed PrefPortlet.java example .. still called the same at the minute :-) )

  • Out Of Memory & Invalid Pointer exceptions on CSV export

    Iu2019m having problems when exporting more than 1 million rows of data to a CSV format.  Iu2019m running the export from C# code (see sample code below).  Depending on the template that I use, I get either a System.OutOfMemoryException or a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (Invalid pointer) error.  See the full error text below.
    This worked fine with Crystal XI but now breaks with Crystal 2008.
    Is this a known problem and are there any workarounds?
    Sample Code:
    ReportDocument rptDoc = new ReportDocument();
    rptDoc.Load("C:\somereport.rpt");
    ExportOptions opts = new ExportOptions();
    opts.ExportDestinationType = ExportDestinationType.DiskFile;
    DiskFileDestinationOptions destOpts = ExportOptions.CreateDiskFileDestinationOptions();
    destOpts.DiskFileName = "C:\outputfile.csv";
    opts.ExportDestinationOptions = destOpts;
    opts.ExportFormatType = ExportFormatType.CharacterSeparatedValues;
    rptDoc.Export(opts);

    Hello Ludek, Thanks for the reply.
    I am using 'Crystal Report Basic For Visual Studio 2008 - version 10.5'  version of the Crystal Report.
    I have 12 columns in my Report. Out of these 12 columns 2 columns display images (one is of size 320X240 and second one is of size 120X240).
    Some description is as :-
         When Report contain 1180 events, and when I export it as .xls( Size - 21, 492 KB i.e near about 22.5 MB) and .pdf ( Size :- 153,961 KB i.e near about 154MB) it get export properly without an error.
         When Report contan 1451 events, and when I export it as .xls (size :- 26,644 KB i.e. Near about 26.6MB) it export properly without an error. But if I try to export it as .pdf it gives " Invalid Pointer" exception.
         When Report contain 2813 events and when I export it as .xls (size :- 13, 957 KB) it get export properly without an error but this xls file does not contain the images. (If you look into size of xls for 1451 Events Report and 2813 Events Report, xls for 2813 Events Report has lower size than 1451 Events Reports, because it does not contain the images.) If I export this Report as .pdf , it gives "Invalid Pointer" exception.
         I used my own code to export the report in various formats.
        What should be done to export the large sized Reports in all possible formats?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Xfce4 install wiped out ld.so.conf???

    I reinstalled Arch on 3/7 to go back to JFS from ReiserFS (also, prior install was x86_64, current is i686). I use both KDE and Xfce4, but didn't reinstall Xfce4 until 3/12, at 16:09, according to pacman.log.
    I did a pacman -Syu yesterday (I *never* go more than a week w/o doing so, and rarely more than 2 or 3 days). The 2 main updates were qt3 (3.3.8-6.1 -> 3.3.8-7) and kdelibs (3.5.9-1 -> 3.5.9-2).
    I fire KDE back up, and I have *no* icons, either on the desktop OR taskbar. None. Mousing over the taskbar showed all the prior entries were still there (including K Menu), and I had no problems running anything, either from the taskbar or K Menu, by clicking on the 'blank' icon (K Menu ALSO had no icons, but still had the text for all entries). Additionally, I had a LOT of random splotches of color (mostly bright green) here and there (including either just in front of, or just behind, ALL the text entires in K Menu). This wasn't a showstopper, just a nuisance. The system seemed to work fine overall. Note KControl ALSO had no icons, but was fully functional as far as I went with it.
    I downgraded kdelibs first (seemed the logical thing to do). I fire up KDE, no change. I downgrade qt3. Fire KDE back up; everything is as it should be. All icons there, no random splotches of color; exactly as things were before the first pacman -Syu above. But I was quite curious as to what had happened.
    Something (sorry, I can't recall what now) prompted me to inspect /etc/ld.so.conf. To my astonishment, it contains:
    # /etc/ld.so.conf
    # End of file
    Further, it's dated 3/12, 16:09, matching the timestamp of the Xfce4 install. ???
    /etc/ld.so.cache is dated 3/28 14:30, which matches the pacman.log timestamp when I downgraded qt3 (although I never SAW an ldconfig run, nor is it noted in pacman.log). Bizarrely, my system seems to run just fine!
    My archived /etc/ld.so.conf is, unfortunately, from a x86_64 install and full of lib32 entries:
    # /etc/ld.so.conf
    /usr/X11R6/lib
    # End of file
    /usr/lib/libfakeroot
    /opt/kde/lib
    /opt/qt/lib
    /opt/lib32/lib
    /opt/lib32/usr/lib
    /opt/lib32/opt/qt/lib
    /opt/qt/lib
    Should I simply remove the lib32 (and X11R6, and the dup /opt/qt/lib) entries from this file and overwrite my empty ld.so.conf with it, and re-run ldconfig? Could someone share their current ld.so.conf so I could compare?
    WHY is my system running without a hitch? I'm truly baffled at that! And why did the Xfce4 install (ver 4.4.2-1, still the current ver) apparently wipe out my ld.so.conf? Searching the 'Desktop Environments' forum found: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45663 - which was never replied to. Searching the forums by keyword (Xfce4, qt3, ld.so.conf - each, individually) shows nothing further. ???

    Thanks, tigrmesh. I'm going to try that now. Will report back shortly.
    Edit: Well, no harm done, apparently, at least. It sure seems like I had more than 3 lines in ld.so.conf previously, but I do appear to be running OK. Will update if I notice anything, but no need to fix something that doesn't appear broken.
    And thanks again tigrmesh. This is one of the weirder things that's ever happened to me using Linux - any variant! Take care.
    Edit2: Looking through pacman.log, I find that I upgraded to the current version of filesystem (2008.03-2) on 3/11 at 9:09 (prior to my Xfce4 install). It had been updated twice previously, and I notice that both prior times, mkinitcpio was run at the same time; it was NOT run at the time of the upgrade to 2008.03-2. Wondering if that has anything to do with this, and if I should manually run mkinitcpio?
