Parsable formats only when trying to Place...

Good day! My co-worker is having an issue with Photoshop (CS3) on her hardrive. Recurringly, she has had a problem when trying to "Place" an image from her desktop into a new Photoshop file she is working on. It is not allowing her to Place jpegs or others. It is only allowing what it calls "Parsable Objects" (pdf, psd and a few others). I have the same program on my computer and have NEVER had this issue. We fixed it once by re-installing the program, but now it is "stuck" again, and re-installing is too time consuming and inefficient. Any ideas what may be causing this and/or how to fix it more reasonably??? Thanks so much!

Do the computers have the same amount of resources (memory, disk space, etc.)?
Well, you could carefully check the Edit - Preferences dialogs for differences. Assuming the machines have the same amount of memory, you'll want to review the memory settings to ensure she's giving her Photoshop enough space in which to work.
Can you describe the exact sequence she's going through (e.g., dragging file from here to there, or using Edit - Place, etc.).
I'm happy to help, but I'm kind of grasping at generalities that could affect things because I have not seen this problem myself.

Adobe Reader and Acrobat Professional are 2 different products. Reader is for free and limited as to what it can do an support.
Add-ins can only use features supported by Reader.
You need Acrobat to edit PDF forms. Acrobat no longer supports access to SQL databases through Acrobat JavaScript.
If you have an add-in and Acrobat can use it for filling a PDF form from Access, you need to talk to the developer to see if it can work with Reader.

Problem when trying to place a post wrt BSP

Colleagues,
for a few days i am encountering problems when trying to place a post regarding BSP issue. I am not sure if this is just an IE settings problem or sth on the SDN forum side.
Another option is to check for customized corporate settings of the current project owner.
Any cool ideas are warmly welcomed.

Your launch services database, which stores information about which applications should open certain documents, may need to be repaired. Open the Terminal application found in /Applications/Utilities and paste in this command (all one line):
System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/La unchServices.framework/Versions/Current/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain system -domain local -domain user
Hit the return key, log out and log in.

These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:

InDesign crashes when trying to place text

I'm using InDesign to convert html files in pdf documents: I usually place the html file and then run the FindChangeByList script that replaces all the contents of the tags with paragraph/character styles of my choice.
Given the fact that the above-mentioned html files are really unsophisticated, this takes just two clicks plus ten seconds for the program to perform the script.
This has gone perfectly well until a few days ago, when suddently ID begun to take hours to place the documents, even those that had never had problems before. I tried to place html and other file formats with the same outcome.
Anyone can tell me what problem there could be?
I'm sure I've not changed anything in the ID configuration nor in my pc, and I'm currently working with InDesign CS4 on Windows Vista.
(I also tried to empty the chace folders, but to no avail)

The first thing to try when ID gets flaky like this is to replace your preferences.
Adobe InDesign CS4 * Setting preferences
Export any presets from the "define" dialogs before doing this if you don't want to have to rebuild them all from scratch.

Illustrator CS3 crashes when trying to place an item

I'm running CS3 on an iMac running OS 10.5.8.
Just recently (the past few days) my Illustrator has been crashing when I attempt to place a file. I've attempted to place a variety of files (.jpg, .eps, .PSD) and usually Illustrator would crash after selecting the file to be placed. Now it is crashing upon selecting 'Place' from the 'File' menu.
I attempted this fix (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402521.html) and it did not resolve the issue. I also checked to see if possible it was trying to open a directory that no longer exists when I choose 'Place' from the 'File' menu, but that also is not the issue.
Any input on what could be wrong? Thank you!

Thank you for that link! While none of the 'technical' suggestions worked (replacing files in the Version Cue folders in Library/Application Support) a lower-tech solution has seemed to work. Simple disable Version Cue in the preferences panel of Illustrator (I'm not using it anyway). So far so good! Who would have known such a low-tech solution would work!
Thanks again & I'll report if this seems to be a permanent solution or not. I just find it strange that Illustrator just started behaving this way when I don't believe Adobe Updater has updated my CS3 in over a month.

This Mac is quite new and was originally a migration (using Migration Assistant) from an older Mac.
Illustrator and InDesign in CS5 were both crashing often and most of the time it's when placing an image (in either application) – it doesn't crash each time I try to place an image, but 90% of the crashes are when placing an image.
We tried lots of things, like cleaning out the fonts, clearing font caches etc. After several months of that, we decided to wipe the Mac clean and start from scratch. It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.

Error message when trying to place book order in iPhoto

I have compiled a book in iPhoto, but when I go to place the order, the "compiling book" intially shows, but then I get the following error message

I have checked and every page and frame has a picture & I haven't got any pages with the palm tree background. I have got one photo with a low quality warning, but I have ok'd that error message. I have sucessfully ordered a different book a couple of days ago. The only difference is the new book has two extra pages.

I have text on my back cover page, I tried fixing that and numerous other things like photos and pages etc. It's something in this book because I tried other books and they were fine in assembly and I have ordered a book successfully in Iphoto 6.0 (It is driving me insane! HELP!!!!!!!) what else could it be and how do you figure this out- its such a pain that you have to go through all this troubleshooting blindly.

Grey background when trying to place page in edit mode

Hi,
When I try to place a particular page in edit mode in my sharepoint site, it displays a grey background with no content i.e. it doesn't go into edit mode. I have tried reverting to previous versions of the page and I have the same issue. This issue
even spans multiple browsers.
I have even tried changing my master page to one that works in the testting environment, but this still doesn' work in production. Any ideas of what next to do?

Hi,
Please check as follows:
1. Activate the site feature "SharePoint Server Publishing".
2. Use IE developer tools to check the page style in edit mode.
3. Open Master Page in SharePoint Designer(SPD), then look for any reference to CSS files or CSS code.
4. Open any custom CSS files you find in SPD and check.
5. Open your Edit page in SPD and check.
If the issue still exists, I suggest you provide some screenshots for further research.

Acrobat XI states file is read-only when trying to save

For the last couple of weeks I have had this issue . . . when saving to our shared drive, Acrobat XI states file is read-only (pop-up below) and I must save as a different name or in a different folder.
I must then save the file to a different folder or drive. No other Adobe product has this issue and it only occurs on our shared drive. IT states I have full permissions for the folder.
Anybody else have this issue?

Help!! Sync Problem Only When Trying to Update Software on My 755p

I am trying to update the software on my 755p. I am syncing with a usb. The sync goes fine when I do a hotsync, but when I try to run the updater for the palm software, it keeps telling me that the "Device Connection Failed." It tells me to connect the cable, but it is connected and I know it works, cuz I just hotsynced! very frustrating. An hour on the phone with Verizon did not help. I reinstalled the latest Palm Desktop, still no help. Help??!!

I am getting an unsupported format error when trying to import the.aaf file.

When I select File > Import > File, and then select my .aaf file, nothing happens.
When I select File > Import > Pro After Effects and then select my .aaf file, it imports the files, then I get an unsupported format error for .mov files.
Help!

Which video in the tutorial does this step apply to (i.e. importing the AAF file)? Are you importing from the sample files that accompany the tutorial? Finally, can you post a screen shot of the error message you're getting?
Also, please confirm which version of After Effects you're running, as well as the operating system.

I am trying to override the aggregation specification of the cube and am getting the following error:

Definitely seems to be some sort of weird bug.
I have two dimensions, time (hours, minutes, seconds) and date which is identical to this: http://oracleolap.blogspot.com/2011/01/script-for-time-dimension-table.html
If I set my cube to SUM and use Max or Min on a measure with any dimension things process just fine. If I use first non na value on my time dimension. Things work fine. If I use first non na value on my date dimension. I get this error. So there is an issue with date dimensions when using the first non na aggregator in an environment where one is override the cubes default aggregation method.

I get an error message File too large for formatted drive when trying to copy a large video file (~50GB) to a new 64 GB USB drive. Any thoughts?

I am copying from a MAC to the new drive - not sure the format of the USB drive, whatever the SANDISK Cruzer is default formatted to..

You state that Cruzer is formatted which is proably FAT32. FAT32 has limits on file size of 4 GB.
Since you are copying larger files then you will need to reformat.
