Parse *.jp2 file in photoshop cs 5
I want to open a jpeg2000 file in photshop cs5 with extension .jp2, but I got the message ' file format module cannot parse the fie'.
I just have updated my cs version.
Did you check to see if the freeware program IrfanView would open it?
I'll be happy to try to reproduce the problem, though if you have some kind of recurring download failure then it would not prove too much - other than that your Photoshop works like others' installations. It might be helpful for you to know that it's not a problem with your specific Photoshop installation. I also have several other programs with which I could try to open it, including IrfanView.
By chance is this image known to have a huge pixel count? I wonder if it might be exceeding some arbitrary limits for JPEG2000 files. I do know, for example, that Adobe arbitrarily limits Photoshop to opening regular JPEGs at only half the pixels in each dimension that the standards say they can actually carry, just because they're unwilling to take the time to go back and recode old sources.
Adobe should be interested in seeing your file, if it's encoded to proper standards and Photoshop won't open it.

Opening a color .JP2 file in Photoshop CS6 it's grayscale instead
I have two .JP2 files that i need to open and apply an artistic filter to. When I open the files they open as grayscale instead of color which they are.
Am I missing something i have not worked with JP2 files before.I was curious so had a look around. I found this site http://www.microimages.com/gallery/jp2/ that has some .jp2 test images on it. I downloaded the world map image (right click and save link not save image or it will save as a .jpg).
On my system - Windows 7 64bit Photoshop CC the file loaded in as a colour image.
So I suspect that CurtY is right that your origional image has been sent to you as a grayscale image.
Just my 2 penneth!

Batch change jp2 files to Photoshop (CS3)
I found a website that allows you to download old (public domain) books. Each page is saved as a jp2, which I can't open in Photoshop CS3. I found an plugin that enables me to open them, and I could have sworn it was working, but it suddently stopped working for some reason.
Anyway, I have a folder full of folders with over a thousand jp2 images. I can open them in Pixelmator and save them as Photoshop files, but that's very time consuming. So, can anyone tell me if there's a way to do a batch change - convert every jp2 image in the folder to a format that I can open in Photoshop CS3?
Also, can anyone recommend an online guide to batch changing. I'd like to learn how to batch change file sizes; for example convert all images that are 4,000 pixels wide to 500 pixels wide. I'd also like to learn how to batch change file names. I probably have to pursue each of these separately, but I just wondered if there's some sort of online central guide to batch changing.
Thanks.".jp2" is just the file extension for JPEG 2000, which a number of applications can open, including your Photoshop CS3, Photoshop 13 ("CS6"), Apple Preview, GraphicConverter, Safari, Firefox, etc.. Just install the JPEG2000.plugin from the Optional Plug-Ins folder in your CS3.

Open JP2 file with Photoshop CS2
Does anyone know how to open JP2 (JPEG2000) files with Phoshop CS2?
Thanks in advance!Check the optional plug-ins on the install disc. Failing that, download an alternate image viewer/ conversion program and convert the file.

"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
I have recently upgraded to PS CS5, operating on an imac with Mac OSX Lion.
Every now and then I get the message above when trying to open certain Raw (CR2) files in photoshop Raw converter.
If I try to only open the one specific raw file I get the above message, although if I open multiple raw files in one go, they all open fine, although when I scroll down to the image that can't be parsed I either get this mesage "Unable to swith to the current image. There was an error parsing the file" or photoshop freezes totally.
As far as I can see the images aren't corrupted becasue I'm able to view them with Bridge. I have never encounter this problem with my equipment before upgrading.
Does anyone have a solution?
Cheers in advance.
cabsIf an image has issues each time you try to open it in Camera RAW, then post a link so others can verify if it is indeed corrupted.
If you need to upload to www.YouSendIt.com or www.DropBox.com and then post the download link. -
JP2 file cannot parse in Photoshop CS6
I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6 on MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8 and need to open a JP2 file that is 2.11 GB. Photoshop throws out an error message "...the file format module cannot parse the file". Can anyone help? I would like to convert this file to a PSD file ideally.
ThanksWe were looking at HIRISE JP2s last night. HiRISE | Sedimentary Fans North of Mojave Crater (ESP_038851_1900)
Same parsing problem in Photoshop CC 2014, and my Dell i5/6 GB turned into a slug dealing with one of them.

Library of congress jp2 files not opening in photoshop
Am I missing something? I am using Adobe Photoshop CC (2014).. but when I attempt to open a .jp2 file (JPEG 2000) downloaded from the LoC, I get an error in Photoshop saying "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file"?
Thanks for any suggestions to resolve this.when I googled JPEG 2000 and photoshop, I was under the impression that Photoshop supported this format?
some results from Adobe Communities said to avoid 3rd party plugins and that Photoshop should have the plugin built-in?
Also found in the Communities a link to an add-on plug-in from Adobe...
will this link work with Photoshop CC?

Apparently the JP2 takes up an awful lot of memory uncompressing, and Photoshop gives up.

I also got the same error on the file in Message one, so saving it as a tiff would work.

I have a Nikon D600 and D800 and I shoot everything in Raw. I use Photoshop Elements 9 for processing but I have been unable to convert any RAW files to open in PSE. Says unable to parse the file. What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

Unable to open Canon 7D CR2 raw files in Photoshop CS6
Hi Folks,
I have been trying to open Canon 7D CR2 raw files in Photoshop CS6 (Extended) (Windows 8.1) but I'm always getting the error "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse your file".
I installed the Camera Raw plugin ver 8.8.0.397 today. Did this initially by downloading and running the CameraRaw_8_8.zip available here Camera Raw plug-in installer. Still got the error.
Went and did the Check Updates in Photoshop and updated the Camera Raw (and other components) but STILL cannot open the CR2 files.
I can see the thumbnails in Bridge but when I double click to open them in Photoshop, same error.
Cannot seem to get past the "Could not complete your request..." error.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Doug...Hi Folks,
Thanks for your replies and assistance so far, very much appreciated. Its a very frustrating problem... this should be one of those things that just work.
I have uploaded two sample pics taken with my canon 7d. If you get a chance, could you please try opening these images to see if they work on your machine.
http://www.bespoke-gems.com/images/gemstones/misc/rawtest1_canon7d.cr2
http://www.bespoke-gems.com/images/gemstones/misc/rawtest2_canon7d.cr2
I have tried opening them on both my office and home computer but neither of them work.
Hmmm... could it have anything to do with the lens (Canon Macro Lens EF 100mm1:2.8 USM)
Many thanks! -
Tried to "Open As" in PS a NEF file I modified in LR. Got the following error message: "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse the file." I can "Open" the file in PS, but then the changes I made in LR (and saved in the associated meta data file with the "Control S" command) are not applied to the opened PS file. HELP!
If you are working with a file you modified in Lightroom, you should go to the Lightroom Photo menu and choose Edit in... and the version of Photoshop you want to open it in.
There a dialog will ask if you want to transfer the LR settings you made to your photo when you open in Photoshop.

Can't open any files in Photoshop Elements 9 and 11
I have Photoshop Elements 9 and 11, and right now I cannot open any files at all in either one. I keep getting this same error message every time: "Your request cannot be completed because the file format module cannot parse the file". Anybody have any ideas about what's up with this? I have an iMac running MAC OS-X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
CheekyBugger,
As you are using Photoshop Elements, and this is the Photoshop>General Discussions (PsElements' "big-brother"), I would normally Move this post. However, I know that you now have a post on the same issue, in the Photoshop Elements Forum (Moved from Premiere Elements), so I will just Lock this thread. Please continuse to troubleshoot your "Cannot Parse... " issue in the other thread, in the PsElements Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1405398?tstart=0
Good luck,
Hunt

Hi,
every time I try opening a .jp2 file, I see only a semi-transparent grey layer. How do I fix this?
I'm running CS5.5 on 10.6.8 the video card is a 6970M with 2 GB and the system has 16 GB RAM.You might be right about the creator application. If i open the same file converted into something readable for photoshop and save it as jpeg 2000 in photoshop, the file can be opened afterwards.
The "creator application" is the mac's built-in image capture I use to scan documents. -
Can't open raw format files in photoshop elements 3.0
I'm sure this question has been posed here 1,000 times already, and I've just spent over an hour surfing the web, using adobe on-line support, etc. -- too much to sift through, and none of it giving me a simple answer.
So here's the question:
- Using Windows XP
- I have a Nikon D40
- Photoshop Elements 3.0
- 2.3 Camera Raw Plug In
From what I am able to gather, I SHOULD be able to open raw format files using PE 3.0, but I get the various error messages:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
Am I missing some sort of simple step before I start downloading plug-ins I don't need and messing up all the settings on my computer? Any help would be appreciated, and once again, apologies if I'm repeating a question that's been asked a million times before.Support for the Nikon D40 was added in Camera Raw version 3.7. So you would need Photoshop Elements 4.0 or later to be able to use that.
To use your version you may need to download the free DNG converter from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and convert your D40 files from NEF to DNG.
