Parsing pdfxml files in AIR

Question

What is the generic idea for how to get the XML data of a pdfxml file into a String or XML object in Actionscript? (similar to how the PDF Inspector works)? The musis samples app is only working with images and I dont't see how it's parsed.
When loading the byte stream for the pdfxml file, are there certain bytes to look for/end with to know when to start creating an xml structure?

I've developed some MIDI projects in Java. I'd love to
rewrite these music education projects with Flex, because with
Flex, I could easily create a great interface for them ...but alas,
no MIDI sequencer or MIDI methods in ActionScript! There's a chance
that AIR may have fuller access to the APIs of various audio tools
(like QuickTime and CoreAudio) than rich internet applications.
Anybody know?
