I want to know what the US part content is of a MacBook Pro.
Specifically, I want to know where each part is made and where it is assembled. If nothing else, I want to know what parts are made in the USA.

Consumer Reports keeps track of the US content of automobiles; they may have something on computers. Worth contacting them.
I am not aware of any name-brand laptops made in USA. There may be some "assembled" here but I am willing to bet all the components come from offshore. If you want 100 percent American content in a portable computer, you may need to build an abacus!
As an aside, the last Consumer Reports listing of the US content of cars--parts and labor--the high score was 91 percent. Wanna guess what vehicle? A Toyota Sienna mini-van! Made in Kentucky! Some of those big GMC trucks tough guys like to drive had zero US content.

Only part of my macbook pro keyboard backlight works

only part of my macbook pro keyboard backlight works , all settings and f6/7 keys work ok but only a triangle in the centre lights up, so the rest of the keyboard is dark.
Pleqase someone shed some light.

It is likely a hardware defect. If you bought it in May of 2012, it is still under warranty. Take it back to the store or mail it in to be fixed.

I do not see the hard drive icon or a back up icon, where should it be?

What kind of drive is it - a large drive with a power cord, or a portable drive? Can you tell if the drive itself is actually on? (Is there a light, or a power switch, etc, can you hear it?)
How is it attached to the Mac?
On your Mac, click on the desktop, then go to the Finder menu (top left), click Preferences, then under the General tab, make sure that everything is ticked.
If that works, you should then get the external HD icon appearing on your desktop.

Viewing 1080p content on Macbook pro

Is it possible to hook up Sony Playstation 3 to Macbook Pro to watch blue ray discs on the Macbook? If not, is there a way to view HD movies on Macbook Pro without blue ray player, or can you buy a blueray drive thats installs on the Macbook Pro? Also if I'm running windows will Netflix streaming video work with Mac. Doesn't work with Leopard....thanks, nobody could answer the playstation 3 question. Just wanna watch 1080p.

I don't think there is a practical way to do this. First of all, you will not be able to watch 1080p content at full size on the Macbook Pro's display since it won't fit without being scaled down. Second, there is no direct video input on the Macbook Pro. Lastly, there is no software that I know of for commercial Blu-Ray disc playback on Mac OS X, so even if you did spend the hundreds of dollars for a Blue Ray drive, you'd only be able to read/burn data or non-DRMd video (which basically excludes all commercially available movies). Don't know the answer to the Netflix question.
If all you want to do is watch HD movies, might I suggest an HD TV?

Creating iTunes U content on MacBook Pro?

Is there a way I can create iTunes U course content on my MacBook Pro for my students to access on their iPads/iPhones, etc? I chose to purchase a MacBook Pro over an iPad as it is easier to create content/resources, but finding it more and more difficult to be able to do this. I don't understand why the MacBook and the iPad operating platforms are taking such a divergent path. Surely it should be more interconnected?

Just spoke with apple senior advisor and was told that after five years parts are unavalible for my computer. I never thought I would say this but this may keep me from ever purchasing another apple product. My battery is bad and he said I cannot get one. period. for a 2000.00 investment this really *****.

An Apple senior advisor.. what is that? Did you contact a Genius at an Apple Store? Perhaps their is a misunderstanding.. could he have said something like "Apple would charge alot of money for these parts and you can get it cheaper by going to an aftemarket company."

Yes, the display assembly can be replaced for anywhere from a few hundred to more than a thousand dollars, depending on model. Under no circumstances is this a sensible, worthwhile investment if the only reason for doing it is minor cosmetic damage.

Magnetic part of charger (macbook pro)

I bought this computer about 3 years ago. Today I come to unplug my macbook and the gray part that is magnetizes got stuck in the computer. I am left with the cord that has 5 little golden rods coming out at the end of it. I tried putting it back together and hopping that it would come out but the gray part is still stuck there.
So, I guess I have to buy a new charger but how can I get the gray part out of the socket???

Easy, its just a ceramic neodymium magnet, grab some needle nosed pliers and gently pull it out.
WITH THE POWER OFF.
You can easily reattach it to the charger end with binary (2 part) 2-ton epoxy,...it takes 24 hours to cure, even the "1 hour" epoxy binary still should not be used for at least 7 hours.
Its possible Apple could give you a replacement charger without charging you, but I doubt it given the age. Take it in and find out
IF you glue it yourself, do NOT use superglue, ...it wont last in affixing the ceramic neodymium to the charger end. Use binary epoxy you can find anywhere.
If the neodymium isnt broken, I wouldnt buy a new charger for $80, just epoxy it and let it cure for 24 hours. But thats your choice

I was making an investigation into what I needed to make a bit of a bit of a hybrid between my musical inteface and the mac book pro 13...I looking for the macbook to just hold and processes the application i require to perform live music, in this case the software max msp. You've got it right. The SSD can be upgraded, though it's expensive and potentially voids the warranty. The RAM can't be upgraded at all.
Can you return it? If not, your only option may be to sell it.

DirecTv DVR content to Macbook Pro?

I would like to be able to take the shows I record to my DVR, and put them onto my computer. Please let me know the best way to do this.
(I purchased a Western Digital MyDVR expander, so that my shows could be on an external hard drive and then take them from there to my computer but my computer does not even recognize the hard drive when its plugged in)

Sending content from Macbook Pro to Apple TV

Have had Apple TV for a year, and am still don't know how to send movies from the laptop (Mavericks) to Apple TV. Have turned on Home Sharing, but what then?
Is a cable necessary? A good wireless (Verizon) network is available.
If someone could post a step-by-step procedure I'd be very grateful.

home sharing is the appletv being able to access supported media in a shared itunes lib on your computer it works pretty much the same way as other computers on the same network as you can access media from your itunes lib if you set it as shared
